  1. He needs to be entertaining to keep viewers. If he's not at the 99.9999th percentile of skill, it's highly unlikely he'll build a following without being highly entertaining. So manage your expectations and help him manage his.

  2. For someone to be entertaining a big part of it is to have a varied life. Conversation about a wide variety of subjects, being happy, healthy, clean, accomplished, etc... As a couple you should be helping each other achieve those things regardless, so maybe take a step back and look at that big picture.

  3. AFK his stream, invite friends to watch it, etc...

  4. Make him his chicken tendies, mountain dew, and open his doritos. Just kidding...

  5. As for equipment and setup... This all depends. The next things I would usually advise would be the best quality camera you can get in your budget, like an actual HD camcorder and figure out how to hook that up. Maybe an IRL streaming backpack setup? Sound treatment for the room can be good, but majority of products you buy for this are snake oil, so do your research. I'll just list off some things that I recommend people as ideas:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWNYGUS/ - Adjustable clamp-jaw mount for cameras like the Logitech C920/922 (the most recommended cameras). Get a better or more unique angle.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ACFAULC/ - Pop filters help a lot with audio quality.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017WNJS3M/ - Green screen it up and you can do all sorts of wacky or cool stuff, or it just cleans up the presentation of the stream in general.

https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Stream-Deck-Mini-Customizable/dp/B07DYRS1WH - The streamdeck mini just came out, pretty useful for doing goofy on-demand stuff with programmable buttons. Some people swear by these.

For higher end stuff for audio, put this stuff in a wish list if he does start to take off:

https://www.amazon.com/Shure-SM7B-Dynamic-Microphone-Cardioid/dp/B0002E4Z8M - Probably my most recommended mic for people wanting to get into the more serious stuff.

https://www.amazon.com/dbx-286s-Microphone-Preamp-Processor/dp/B004LWH79A - Probably the best entry level audiophile grade mic preamp. This is endgame for streamers personally, it's way beyond what most people have and it will give him an edge.

https://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Microphones-CL-1-Cloudlifter-1-channel/dp/B004MQSV04 - Cloudlifter CL-1. This is a must if you ahve a Shure SM7B, excellent high end filter that will absolutely remove all noise.

https://www.amazon.com/Furman-M-8X2-Outlet-Conditioner-Protector/dp/B003BQ91Y6/ - Further eliminates noise from dirty power. Everyone who wants a decent XLR high-end setup wants something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/Allen-Heath-ZEDi-10FX-Compact-Interface/dp/B01ATAK5MS - This is an excellent mixer+audio interface combo, if you are going XLR you'll want a mixer. It's 4x4 USB, which for the price is a great value, and it's preamps and lines are notoriously silent. I bought the last version of this which was a 4x2 interface on a great sale, and couldn't be more pleased.

There's a lot more you can get of course. A simple small table rack to rack mount these things... But it all depends, the sky is the limit with this stuff. Just giving you ideas of how you can go nuts with it.

But at the core of it, if he's not organically growing by being consistent and working hard at it and trying to improve... Maybe he's just not entertaining enough? It is what it is. Don't think that buying this stuff really makes any difference, it only does if you are already able to gain viewers in the first place.

Edit 1: Updated equipment.

Edit 2: Removed video link.

Edit 3: See comment from /u/N3rdC3ntral who politely corrected me.

So let me start out saying this: Please do not get discouraged by what I'm about to say. You should just start out using the built-in functionality of the PS4 since it's all free for you at this point. If you like it, then consider the rest of this comment.

Here's a list of stuff you'll need.

  1. A good computer with a good CPU and decent GPU
  2. Capture device. I use a Magewell USB HDMI capture device.
  3. HDMI splitter
  4. A good microphone. I would recommend a Blue Yeti.
  5. A mixer
  6. A 4-pole 3.5mm audio splitter
  7. A good sound card

Why do you need all of this?

Your laptop is probably going to struggle to keep up. Encoding video on the fly is very CPU/GPU intensive. Your laptop, if new, probably doesn't have a physical network port. I promise you will not want to use a WiFi connection to stream your game play. So if your PS4 is using WiFi, fix that first. Plug it in. If your laptop doesn't have an Ethernet port, you probably don't want to use it. External capture cards need USB 3.0. If your laptop doesn't have USB 3.0, then it probably won't work with a USB capture card.

The next biggest hurdle you will have with PS4 is audio. If you only play solo, it's not bad. I play Destiny 2, and I founded the clan that my friends use now. We are usually 4-8 deep in chat, and unfortunately everyone uses PS4 party chat. That's where things get messy. It's a f**king nightmare, and I mean it. I have lost sleep trying to get good audio while streaming PS4. Consider the only way you have to run a mic into a PS4: the controller. Now with a streaming PC you have to figure out how to get a mic into your PS4 (assuming you play games with friends) and your stream rig at the same time.

What I had to do was purchase a 4-pole 3.5mm splitter that plugs into my PS4 controller. This splits headphones and mic into separate channels. I run the headphone port into a mixer. Next, the Blue Yeti has a USB and 3.5mm port. The USB runs into the stream PC. The 3.5mm runs into the mic port of the splitter. I capture game audio via HDMI through the USB capture device, and mirror that out the headphone port of the PC. This runs back into the mixer. I hook my headphones up to the mixer. So now I have both PS4 chat and game audio in the mixer, which I can run to the headphones combined.

Here's what I hope you take away from this. Start out streaming straight from the PS4. It's super easy. You press the share button then broadcast gameplay. Link your PS4 to your Twitch account. Boom. Bam. Done. You're live on Twich. People can see you playing, and you can open Twitch on your mobile or laptop to see chat and interact with people. If you have fun doing this, then over time decide how far you want to take it.

Want an overlay like the twitch pros? Want people to see your webcam? You're going to need a lot more. Update: PS4 has built in support for webcam if you use the PS4 camera.

If you're still reading at this point, the last thing I want to say is that people have been really helpful for me so far. There are a lot of resources out there. I plan making a video this weekend documenting my audio setup. I'll try to come back and post a link for you so you can see what all I had to rig up. And let me say this as well: audio doesn't have to be such a huge issue. It is for me only because I want my PS4 party chat in the stream. I think my friends are pretty funny. Also, without it sounds like I'm talking to invisible people.

That's pretty limited space for a green screen, but two simple umbrella lamps (at about 45-60' angles L & R) would probably suffice. If you have the space and can put one on either side of your computer table, that would probably work. You can get them fairly cheaply on Amazon.

Something like this (just an example): http://www.amazon.com/Photography-Portrait-Continuous-LimoStudio-LMS103/dp/B005FHZ2SI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462284480&sr=8-1&keywords=umbrella+studio+light

A top light can be very helpful, but it's more difficult to pull off in the average home environment. A ceiling lamp should suffice. A small back-light is nice too, and some studio lighting kits come with them. Might not be realistic with 1-2' behind you though.

There are lots of professional lighting tip videos on youtube, etc. I only have one lamp (umbrella-type) in use on my streaming setup at the moment, but I learned a lot about professional studio lighting just from watching videos. Good luck!

Edit: If you would like to see what one lamp looks like in a typical home environment, go ahead and spend 30 seconds on one of my VODs. What you'll see is:

1 x run of the mill umbrella studio light with a somewhat expensive 1950 lumen 6000K daylight bulb (LED) - placement is about a meter to my front-right, at about 45'.

1 x normal ceiling lamp w/ 2 x 13w soft-white bulbs (LED) - located about 4 feet rear-right at about 45'.

My lighting solution is acceptable IMO, but is in no way "professional" (my space restrictions make a full lighting solution impossible). However, you can see what even a single light diffusing umbrella with a very good bulb can do to help.

I assume this is all hypothetical and you haven't bought anything yet?

Assuming you haven't bought anything...

  • Save a few bucks on headphones and get Audio-Technica ATH-M40x as these "lessor" phones are actually technically better than the heavily slanted "baby's first decent headphone" M50x. The AKG K181 DJ UE is worth looking at as well.

  • Since you're streaming from a computer you're best mixing on the computer in software and using an audio interface. A good starter interface is the Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD. Use said interface with Voicemeeter Banana. Said audio interface will become your PC's soundcard and some adapters may be needed for your existing speakers (like this or this). Make sure to set everything to 24-bit 48khz (Windows' Recording/Playback in Sound control panel, Voicemeeter's internal rate, and including OBS Studio itself).

  • For mics you really need to stick to cardioid pattern dynamics. A good mic in this class for not much money is the SE V3.

  • You'll also need a headphone distribution amp like the Behringer Microamp HA400.

  • For cables Hosa REAN are quality XLR cables for not much money. Two 10'/3m+ XLR3F to XLR3M is what you'll want. A short ~18"/0.5m 1/4" male-male TRS-TRS would be for the interface to headphone amp.

  • The Neewer NB-39 microphone arm is OK and way better than the $15 comically short garbage you see on Amazon

If you're thinking of multiple people around the same desk, you may think of going for headsets. The Audio-Technica BPHS1 is way better than any "1337 gamer" headset out there and is basically a ATH-M40x with a dynamic mic attached. Earpads meant for the M40x/M50x fit too. Pads from Shure are good here, Brainwavz not so much.
u/Egsession · 2 pointsr/Twitch

As everyone else has said--always go with the microphone first. Good audio quality is paramount to a good stream. If you're on a budget, I wouldn't recommend getting a Blue Yeti right off the bat. A lot of people think that the Blue Yeti is cruise control for great audio quality, but it requires a lot of work to get it sounding good because it's so sensitive.

I'd recommend getting a cheap dynamic mic as well as an audio interface. Those combined will be about 50 bucks--much more affordable than the Blue Yeti, and will be a lot easier to work with in the long run.

You'll also need a microphone arm, which is also why I recommend a cheaper mic. The Neewer 20 dollar arm is perfect for those starting out--if you went with the Blue Yeti, that same arm wouldn't work as well because the Yeti is just so heavy, and you'd need to buy an adapter because the arm isn't compatible with it right out of the box.

When you're ready to get a new webcam, I'd recommend with Logitech C270. It's only 20 bucks right now and you're able to stream at 720p without any issues. You're a small streamer, so you shouldn't really worry too much about 1080p--especially since even the bigger streamers only stream at 720p anyway.

Hey, glad you're using the info off this subreddit. I'm not just wasting words! :D

As for my thoughts on camera and green screen, IncredibleMacho is right that lighting really is the most important thing. Until I got my lighting kind of figured out, my c920 looked pretty bad. My HP-4110 cam was looking better by default, but I think with good lighting the C920 is a little bit better (but probably not noticeable on stream).

once I swapped the 4 lights in my ceiling fan with these Phillips Daylight LED Dimmable lightbulbs then the color and brightness in my room was finally getting up there. But that alone isn't enough. That helps with ambient light, but I still need a light over my monitors pointing right at me to really fill in.

For that setup, I'm using this:

  • That same Phillips lightbulb
  • Swing Arm Lamp
  • CowboyStudio 9-Inch Portable Quick Setup Speedlite Softbox
  • Lutron Credenza Lamp Dimmer

The lamp arm attaches to the desk just like the mic arm does. The dimmer switch isn't exactly required, but it does mean that I can adjust the brightness of that light that is on me and puts the switch on my desk. Otherwise, I'd have to reach around the back to get to the lamp switch.

The green screen I'm using is this 6ft x 9ft Chromakey Green Backdrop. The stands are nice and tall, but it isn't very wide. I cropped the camera shot in OBS down (hold ALT + drag the edges of the camera) so that my screen area just fits in it, and that is just barely larger than I am. Part of that size is because it is a couple feet behind me and angles out to pickup light from that ceiling fan in the middle of the room.

But as some people have said, you really could create your own custom one for cheaper. The fabric on this thing is just basic green dyed cloth. You'd do just as well with any cheap colored cloth (doesn't have to be green, just needs to be a color you won't wear) from any fabric store (some walmarts sell fabric). How you hang it is up to you. For convenience though, this kit for $63 right now on Amazon isn't bad.

Good luck with your setup! Just know that it won't work like magic when you get your items, so don't get upset if you set it up and it doesn't immediately look perfect. It almost certainly won't and will still require tweaking things for a while. I'm comfortable enough now with mine that I don't even really think about it now when I start streaming. But when I first got it, I had to adjust lighting and camera settings for a bit every day.
u/KVYNgaming · 2 pointsr/Twitch

Ok well I won't explain everything in mine because it's a little over the top, but that's because I recorded music before I got into Twitch so I already had all my equipment. But what it essentially is a dynamic mic w/ XLR cable -> audio interface w/ USB cable -> computer. Here's the cheapest possible setup I could find on Amazon:

Shure PGA48 w/ 15' XLR cable: $40

Behringer Xenyx Q502USB: $60

Neewer Suspension Boom Stand: $14

total: $114

Do keep in mind that this mixer only has one pre-amp, meaning you'd only be able to plug one mic into it. If you wanted to plug in more than one mic (for instance if you have a friend coming over or something), you'd need a different mixer with more preamps. But yea my setup is essentially the above, just with more expensive stuff haha

If you wanna hear what my setup sounds like (getting a setup like the one above would get you a similar sound), here's a short highlight to see what it looks and sounds like (I chose this one to highlight the fact that you can move the mic around): https://www.twitch.tv/kvyngaming/v/106103644

Note how even when I grab the mic and move it, you barely hear anything. That'd never happen with a condenser mic.

If you’re looking for software, you’ll need OBS or something similar, this will give you almost all the tools you need on the software side.

There’s tons of add ons to get, but one other one I love is voicemeeter, it allows more fine tuning of your audio than OBS allows for.

here Is a great guide on how to make yourself sound better

As for hardware, [this]
(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004QJREXM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9CLHDb5R3T53Q)is a really great cheap mic, and if you’re just starting out with twitch you can get away with [this]
(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004FHO5Y6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PELHDbFYWFCAM) since twitch doesn’t let you stream in 1080 right away.

u/sendblink23 · 1 pointr/Twitch

Definitely that Shure SM7B is the best one for the $400 range, but it does require an extra hardware for the proper gain volume but its the best sounding for sure.

You can also go cheap which works really good as well: Audio-Technica ATR2100

It has both XLR and USB connection as in you can connect it with a mixer or go directly with USB to the PC.
Here is a combo for $90 with arm stand clamp, pop filter and the mic(it includes both xlr and usb cables, and a mini tripod mic stand)

u/wilb0b · 1 pointr/Twitch

I'm loving my DBX pre-amp processor that has a Compressor, De-Esser, Small range EQ but great for vocals and a Expander/Gate. If you check out my VODs you can hear how it works with someone who's not so yellie but more muttering like lol. I was using a new mic yesterday so I had to keep messing with the settings till I found the sweet spot.

Before the SM7B I was using yesterday I was using an AT2020 for all other streams.

u/Papa_Xray · 2 pointsr/Twitch

I have been using 2 PCs for a while, I can PM you a video I made a while back if that helps.

You're old PC is very capable of handling streaming. You don't have to use a capture card, but it is what I am using at the moment. You can setup a rtmp server, I have a little success using it but decided to go back to using a capture card.

The capture card you choose should depend on what settings you want to run your game and stream at. The AV.IO 4k is what I am using right now, it lets me game at 1440p and downscale to 720p for my stream. You said you want to get an ultrawide monitor and this card can let capture that screen size. Not sure about OBS, but Xsplit will allow you to capture a portion of the screen so the rest of it won't be shown.

For sound I am using a channel mixer, with an XLR mic. You don't have to use a channel mixer. Depending on the capture card that you use you can capture the sound via HDMI, a channel mixer just offers more control.

There is a neat program called synergy that will let you use one set of m&kb for both computers.

If you use an Avermedia capture card you will have to use an extra program for OBS, at least this was the case when I still had one. Not sure about other capture cards but the Avermedia LGP has a headphone jack that will allow you to listen to your gaming computer, but not you streaming PC.

This is all I can remember right now, let me know if you need any more help.

I went down a deep Nikon rabbit hole asking this same question and here's where I landed:

First: the camera will shut off every 30 minutes like /u/bgpawesome said. This is sort of a sensor issue but it's equally (if not more) a tax issue. I found one workaround for using your Nikon longer than 30 minutes and it comes down to recording. I have a D5600 so I'm not sure if all of this will transfer to the D5300 but if you start recording on your Nikon then stop it it resets the shut off timer. I bought a cheap remote shutter release cord and in the settings changed the remote settings from "release shutter" to "record video". It works but sometimes it tries to focus so you might want to set it to manual focus.

Second: The Elgtao is incredibly limiting on Mac. You have to use Elgato's software and I found it lacking so I went with the Black Magic Ultra Studio Mini Recorder. In fact, I bought two (one for my DSLR/GoPro and one for my Xbox One or a second camera). Now I can use OBS which I found way more customizable than Elgato.

Third: To be perfectly honest, after a month of research and trial and error, I use a Logictech c920 for my "main" camera. If I'm doing a music performance or something that I want to look nicer I use the Nikon but for every day streaming the c920 has been more than adequate.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer anymore questions if you have them.

u/Man_of_the_Rain · 2 pointsr/Twitch

Every condenser microphone picks up a lot of unwanted noise, because condenser capsule is very sensitive and designed for work in studios, closed recording room with acoustic foam everywhere.

If you are really concerned about extraneous noise, look for good dynamic microphone. Most of them would require some audio interface with it, but there is a good exception like Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB. https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATR2100-USB-Cardioid-Dynamic-Microphone/dp/B004QJOZS4

Just keep in mind you MUST keep it close to your mouth for effectiveness. Why? Well, that goes because of your issue - you want lower sensitivity (because of babies), so you should provide mic with stronger signal from your voice. (There is a nice bundle on Amazon with boom arm and pop-filter included https://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATR2100-USB-Microphone-Desktop-Filter/dp/B01MSQFIRE/ref=pd_cp_267_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01MSQFIRE&pd_rd_r=5895S5TMA83ENRWN0BQM&pd_rd_w=dJXdO&pd_rd_wg=m0AAH&psc=1&refRID=5895S5TMA83ENRWN0BQM )

You need a proper preamp because the rode procaster needs about 32 dB of gain. Your interface should not be used as a preamp......

I have the same mic but mine goes to a dbx 286s that has a preamp and processor where I add the needed gain then feed it into my mixer where the gain knob is not used.

Try getting a cloudlifter from amazon as a cheaper fix which will add the needed gain before it goes into your interface.

Links to a cloudlifter and dbx 286s preamp/processor linked below

perfect, thanks.

but yes, I'm afraid that is just how that mic is going to sound :(

the best thing you can do to try and improve the sound is talk as close to it as possible so that you can turn the volume down which will reduce the background hiss.

I think that the cheapest mic available right now that will sound closer to the broadcast vocal sound that you're hoping for would be the ATR2500, but I don't know if that's available where you are.

u/hopewithinchaos · 2 pointsr/Twitch

If you're just starting out, I would just get yourself a good set of headphones. There's plenty of resources to be found online about a good or bad pair of headphones. I personally use a pair of Cowin E8's.

Microphone, it depends on how much you want to spend. For someone who hasn't streamed yet, I always say never to spend more than you have to until you know streaming is the right fit for you and that you enjoy it.

That said, I usually recommend the Fifine K669. It's USB so plug and play, and is surprisingly good sounding for the cheap price. There's a link HERE so you can see how it sounds yourself.

u/MiTurnerMC · 1 pointr/Twitch

Xenyx 802 boards are not a USB audio interface. You would need to plug in your mic into ch1 or ch2, then if you just want to send you Mic input to your PC then you will need to take cable like this one (https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CMP-153-Stereo-Breakout-Cable/dp/B000068O3C) and plug it into your Main Out then the 3/4 end would plug into your microphone input on your PC.

You may want to use a ground loop isolator as well to ensure a clear and clean transfer of sound from the mixer to the PC. This is a good one (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HJ35F2/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1TOD2ZLXASPZE&colid=CB045PGEL00J). I hope this helps :)

Canon VIXIA HF R700 Full HD Camcorder - $249.00

You'll need this:

Black magic Design UltraStudio Mini Recorder - $137.75

Plus an HDMI to mini-HDMI cable

You can pretty much get any camera with clean HDMI out and use that. If you find something with HDMI to HDMI you can bypass the UltraStudio

The setup I'm building for a client of ours will be using two GoPro Hero 5's plus a Panasonic LUMIX GH4 and feeding it into Wirecast. They're not streaming gaming though...I'll be sure to share it once we get their show up and running :)

One of the best things you could get is the StreamDeck from Elgato!! It is amazing and allows you to switch between screens with incredible ease!!

Does he stream PC or from console.. If he is streaming with console and has a pc to do the work, a capture card is also an incredible thing that will help out productivity.

Just another pebble in the pond but I really love my Samson Meteor Mic.

Not sure how many other people suggest it but its from Samson which is an older mic company that has a good rep for nice mic's.

I use lighting like this for my streams and I love it. It’s more bulky than a ring light for sure and I place them feet from my desk so it may not be viable but I deal with a lot of light sensitivity/photophobia so I’m unable to use a ring light. This may not be an option for you but if you have issues with light it’s perfect for being well lit without the pain.

I did a little bit of research on the product you currently own.
It appears that your product only provides direct video to a monitor. It doesn't seem to go through your laptop's OS as far as displaying the source's video feed.

To simply answer your question, if you bought a higher-end capture card, you wouldn't need to use this VGA converter. You could plug in your Gamecube to your capture card, plug the capture card into your laptop, and use the provided software to play off of your laptop.

If you have a low to mid-range laptop, I'd recommend getting a capture card that takes most of the strain off of your CPU, such as this card: http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416326367&sr=8-1&keywords=aver+media+portable

There are definitely some options if you want to pursue streaming on your laptop, but a desktop rig is most recommended. I recommend doing some research on the matter to get the best possible outcome for your price point. You may PM me if you have any questions. I wouldn't mind helping.

ElGato Stream Deck - $229

Blue Yeti mic & boom arm combo - $298

Blue Radius Shockmount - $107 (Essential to avoid picking up vibration sounds on the mic)

Neewer Pop Filter - $15

Blue Yeti Wind Filter - $19 (Not necessary but I use this instead of the pop filter)

Logitech C922 Webcam - $120

That's my exact setup bought from the exact same places. Hope it helps =)

u/blazefalcon · 0 pointsr/Twitch

I'll probably upgrade to the C920 soon, but the Logitech C270 is what I've used for years and it's never failed me. Pretty ok quality and good settings adjustment so even my garbage green screen works beautifully. If you're on a tight budget, this is a great cam.

The Avermedia Live Gamer HD is a really good capture card that even has the ability to livestream through xPlit. I believe it can also be used with OBS, since it's just a "camera" in a way.

Here are a couple of reviews

u/Athrophia · 1 pointr/Twitch

For video I already have a HD PRO WEBCAM C920 and for audio I have a Samson Meteor Mic, but since I'll be duo streaming with a roommate, I'm not sure what I should go for.
what do you think about the SteelSeries Arctis 7 ?
I have a cherry mx red keyboard with o-rings, I'd like something that will pick up the less ambient noise possible.
I have a budget a bit above 1k € since I'll probably be able to sell my i5 4670k / Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H / 4x4 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz CAS9 / 2 x MSI R7950 Twin Frozr III for a bit.
Not sure how much I could sell this old hardware, but since ram is more expensive, and the I5 isn't bad, the 7950's could probably go around 70€ each and the MB maybe around 70€ as well, not really sure.
I also have a green screen, maybe not top quality, but with some testing it might work, I'll probably have to buy some lights as well to have a better chroma key quality.

u/maxgerald · 1 pointr/Twitch

I guess without knowing how you already have it setup, and what software you are using... I would set it up like this :)

Samson Q7s into Ch1 and Ch2 via XLR cables
1/8" stereo to split 1/4" L/R input via the Line In 3/4 (this cable)
Headphones in the phones plug :)

For output, either use another of the same cable and run it to from the Main Out L/R to the PC's Line In plug or connect to the PC via USB.

I love my behringer mixers (I have 4 of them) but the 2-track option I've never cared for in broadcasting situations. If you really need to use the 2-track loop, remember that it is always on via USB connection. Also, the buttons you are curious about are pretty basic when you use the Main Outs. Anything connected via the 2-Track input will pass through to the 2-Track Output, but will also be sent to the Headphones & Control Room outputs and/or Main Out if you press the corresponding button.

If you are using OBS or Xsplit, you will have to disable system playback sounds being grabbed for stream.

Here to second the Yeti. I originally bought it for just gaming. Since I'm getting setup for streaming, I've also found that it's the new standard in mics. Depending on how loud you type and how fidgety you are, you'll have to adjust the gain to prevent it from picking up background noise.

Btw, nice to haves that go along with it (and currently on my shopping list of items to pick up) are a good mic stand and a shock mount. Blue makes a good shock mount for their mic and I've read that Rode makes a great mic stand/desk mount. Links below for reference.

You won't necessarily get rid of those noises buy paying more for a mic. Pickup Pattern, mic placement, and room treatment will be more effective than anything else. That being said there is only so much you can do to move a blue yeti closer to your mouth. I would consider getting a mic that you can put on a boom (like this one) so you can position it closer to your mouth, then angling the mic so that it's pickup pattern is facing away from all other devices.

You still won't get rid of the clicks and computer noise, as they will always be in your room.

EDIT: as far as 100 dollar mics go, the AT2020 is fantastic for vocals, and partnering that with a shock mount and a boom arm would be a good solution. Note: This mic requires phantom power, which means you would also need an interface.

Weekends are my busiest streaming days since I normally run from 12pm-1am but I'll try to throw a guide together this weekend and post it on the sub.

But for you:

LimoStudio Green Screen Stand - $35

LimoStudio Green Screen - $18

LimoStudio Studio Light Umbrella Kit - $52

Alternatively, you could get the softboxes instead:

LimoStudios Light Softbox Kit - $77

What's interesting is Limo no longer sells the green screen and stand together without the lighting kit but I don't think that's a deal killer.

Alternatively, if you want the full setup in one go, with two umbrellas, two softboxes, four light stands, a green screen and stand, and a black and a blue backdrop. The only thing substantially different from this kit is that it leaves out the third, small light stand from the umbrella kit that is typically used to project light on the subject's back to create a "highlight" on the outline of the subject to help the chromakey separate from the subject and the green screen but I don't use this and don't have any issues.

LimoStudios Full Light and Backdrop Kit - $143

Also, quick question, when I make this guide do you think it would be helpful to provide light setup and position guides as well as chromakey guides?

You can buy most of the above items on Ebay for cheaper if youre patient to wait on the shipping. I did and significantly cut down on the costs (WA-87 for 460 instead of 599 for an open box never used, 260 for a slightly used Yamaha MG12XU, etc)

I use 3 monitors, two 60hz 24” 1080p monitors plugged into my streaming PC. Then I use a 240hz 24” 1080p monitor (I recommend Dell or Asus) on my gaming PC. I use ONE mouse and keyboard to control both my gaming pc and streaming pc through the use of freeware called, “Input Director”

What I’ve linked for you is essentially my studio level setup except with faster PC’s. The 32 thread threadripper will shred through 1080p60fps encoding at medium/slow, BUT... depending on your urge I would wait until Ryzen 3 comes out and we can build a comparable/faster PC for the same or cheaper price.

Sure you could cut the streaming PC, trick out your gaming rig with a fewer higher end options that provide minimal performance increases, then drain your in-game performance significantly streaming on the same PC.

Good luck, the streaming setup above will set you apart from most of your peers but what I linked above is just the hardware, the artistic side I chose for the backdrop of my stream ran another 250-300 bucks.

Well... I can honestly say that's a new one for mic preference. Bravo?

As far as a mount, that mic is light enough that you can pretty much use anything. There's a bunch of identical entry-level scissor mounts, all with the same design/clamp, like this one (hell, there's even one for a couple bucks more that comes with a pop filter). I use this for my own desk setup with an NTG-2, works alright, just know that it has its quirks and can't support anything over maybe a pound without overloading the friction plate.

I'd just like to let everyone know that a solution has been found to my problem. It works perfectly...

Someone told me to buy one of these...

http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-Cable-CPR202-Dual-Inch/dp/B000068O17/

And on the mixer... Plug the RCA ends into the USB IN slots... and the 1/4'' ends into the MAIN OUT slots like this...

http://i.imgur.com/QNJ8vNj.jpg

It works perfectly... I can hear my own voice in my headset, I can hear all the audio from my PC including my friends on Skype, and they can hear me over Skype as well.

The only gotcha is... I have to keep "TO PHONES" pressed, and "TO MAIN MIX" up. When I'm talking to my friends on Skype and I press "TO MAIN MIX" they hear themselves and get some wicked feedback. I'll just simply never hit that, as I have no need to.

If you're on a budget
This mixer with this mic and this stand

The mic is a dynamic as opposed to a condenser (and on amazon comes with a free cable) So it won't pick up background noise nearly as bad as a condenser (especially the yeti) would, and the stand comes with a pop filter. When you decide to upgrade the mic, you can buy an inline phantom power box for like 20 bucks (the unit only has 15v, which isn't enough for most condensers) if you decide to go the condenser route down the road.

u/F1nnm13ster · 1 pointr/Twitch

I also had the mod mic and was not liking the quality of it in the vids I did on twitch or YT. What I ended up going with is the AT2020 USB Plus so far I have been really happy with it. If you're going to get a desk mount you'll definitely want a shock mount to go with it, unless you like your mic to pick up every bump on the table, and to vibrate while you're typing.

Yeah, essentialy you'd use headphone or line out to a cable like this. Then use another cable like that from the mixer to the PC. You might need a ground loop isolator like this to eliminate any hum coming from the PCs.

I realize now this may have been what you were talking about before. I was up super late and my reading comprehension may have been suffering. For some reason I thought you were going to run both PCs into a splitter and then into the mixer. TL;DR I'm dumb.

Like I said before, the Yeti is a HEAVY microphone. Unfortunately, I haven't used a Yeti in years, I would look for a microphone boom (that's the stand you're referring to) that has adjustable weighting OR Google around to find booms that other people have used with their Yeti.
A shock mount is designed to reduce the noises your desk makes. Better put, if you don't have a shock mount, you go from solid joint to solid joint to solid joint. If you bump your desk, your desk reverberates to the boom, the boom reverberates to your mic clip, and your mic clip reverberates to your microphone (basically, any movements you make that touches something that is touching your boom, you're going to get noise). What a shock mount does is suspends the microphone in a way that makes it so those noises are mostly (if not completely) negated. Assuming you have a boom that is strong enough to hold the weight of your microphone, I believe that Radius II shock mount should be able to handle horizontal positioning. If you live near a Guitar Center, they carry Radius II shock mounts. You can pick it up, try it, and return it if it doesn't work.
