There are a ton of good anime out there, and a lot that also have good dubs, but I'm going to start with what I think are the best of the best, to avoid overwhelming anyone.

-Cowboy Bebop. This scene is from the movie, not the series, but the series is even better! This masterpiece was not only my favorite anime for over a decade and STILL to this day the #1 gateway anime for the uninitiated, but also the first time I felt like I might be selectively gay. It's not freely watchable online, but that doesn't matter because you should have this one in your collection anyway. Still, here's a decent upload of episode 1. If you want the rest (and you should), do the right thing.

-FLCL has one of my favorite scenes to listen to on full blast. Also known as Fooly Cooly, it's rare to see such a good dub for something so off the wall, but it's a good thing considering it's one of the best ever anime made, dub or not! It's also only 6 episodes long, so you'll be at the end (and starting your second viewing, which you'll need to understand the plot) in no time! They're even available free on Hulu!

-Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (don't watch the related videos if you want to avoid spoilers). Not only is it a great series to begin with like everything else I'm listing here, it's also another great gateway series for sci-fi or cop drama fans, just like Cowboy Bebop. Plus, the ENTIRE English dub of the first series is available for free on Manga Entertainment's channel. It's completely legit, they own the license and host some of their shows for free as a courtesy to combat piracy and market their work. When you're done watching that, get hype to know that there's still another full series called 2nd GIG (with an even BETTER intro, R.I.P. Origa) and a movie called Solid State Society.

-Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood. Don't watch the series that isn't labeled "Brotherhood," and when you watch Brotherhood, skip episode 1. Why not? The original series was made before the manga was finished, and it's a totally different story after the first half (they caught up when the manga was still only about 1/4 done). Brotherhood is twice as long, but started airing at the same time the manga was ending, so it follows the original (and much better) story. Since the first 13 episodes or so of Brotherhood basically retell the exact same events as the original series, the makers decided to show off with a totally original first episode which didn't happen in either the manga OR the original series, and it's completely throwaway filler that doesn't service the plot whatsoever. It even spoils some things for any first-time watcher that can pick up on foreshadowing. That's why the best place to start is Brotherhood Episode 2. However, don't let all those stipulations turn you off! The 63 episodes that you will see if you follow my instructions tell an incredible story that everyone can enjoy. This series is the best at gripping you emotionally in a way that's not forced or unwelcome. It has excellent action without defying its own rules, excellent characters without falling back on references and templates, and excellent drama without making you roll your eyes. This is the sort of storytelling that lesser shows only manage to imitate. Unfortunately, it only seems possible to watch up to episode 4 online without Netflix, and Netflix only has most of the series, not the whole thing.

-Last Exile (not "Fam, the Silver Wing", the original). It's not quite as good as Fullmetal Alchemist. In fact, in my opinion this is the weakest of my list, but it still deserves to be on here. Like I said above, this list isn't just good dubs, it's good dubs for anime that were already good to begin with. It gets a bit weird near the end, but the presentation, writing, and drama throughout are among the best. If you don't mind the Little Miss McGuffin, you may even like this one better than the rest, so try it out! Just be prepared for a major shark jump in the last episode. To be fair, that episode also has TWO of the most heartbreaking moments in all of anime, so if you don't mind being incredibly sad, it may be a net gain. It also has one of the most beautiful credits sequences in the entire medium. If you'd like to watch the whole thing freely, FUNimation hosts this series subbed on their channel, but even better, the ENTIRE dub is free on Hulu, no membership required! You do have to sit through a lot more ads than Youtube though.

-Hellsing Ultimate. Holy shit, Hellsing Ultimate. You want METAL? You don't get much more metal than motherfucking Alucard! You want limiter releases? How about multiple levels of limiters to release? How about the first level makes you an indestructible god of battle? Where do you go from there? You want gore? How about half of someone's head getting shaved off cell by cell like it was against a sanding belt? Ready for Being a Badass 101? Note: Hellsing ULTIMATE, not just the old "Hellsing". This is another Fullmetal Alchemist situation.

-Kill La Kill. As LordRaison said (same link), the dub is pretty good in general, with the exception of Senketsu. Senketsu unfortunately sounds like he isn't invested in what's happening at all, totally the opposite of the original. Besides that one problem, it's a good dub, which is more than I can say for Gurren Lagann. Gurren Lagann currently my favorite anime of all time. It's the one that finally unseated Cowboy Bebop after its decade-long reign, but the dub is just awful, and it doesn't make me happy to say it ;_; Definitely watch Gurren Lagann, but watch it subbed. If you need another reason to watch Kill La Kill, listen to this and then realize that that song goes with the character in the video. The dub isn't easily available anywhere online, but the subbed version (which is just as fantastic as Gurren Lagann) is on Netflix and Crunchyroll.

-Spice and Wolf. It's a half romance, half slice of life, half fantasy, half sports anime, if you consider economics a sport. It definitely won't be to everyone's liking, but there are few better waifus in the world than Holo the Wise Wolf. It's not often you get a respectable, distinguished performance from an actress, since the roles they're hired for in this medium are rarely as respectable or distinguished as Holo herself. Of course, there's nothing respectable about being perfect. Holo is no perfect fantasy, cute in every way she's not capable. She's stuck-up, jealous, needy, high-maintenance, and a fiend for alcohol, but also intelligent, confident, compassionate, funny, and adorable. As ultimate proof that it's not just a show about a moe girl, the male lead is a fully developed character himself. Lawrence is naive but charismatic, ambitious yet realistic, manipulative but also generous. If you want an anime that respects both genders without worshiping them, this is it. Are you ready to leave behind your old waifu? Hulu pulls through again, with the entire first season.

-Dragonball Z (the FUNimation dub), obviously. Everyone's either seen it, or will see it eventually, so get on with it.

And of course, Ghost Stories (NSFW). Sorry! I mean Ghost Stories (really NSFW). SHIT, GHOST STORIES (really, REALLY NSFW)! Fuck it, Ghost Stories.

OH BOY! THIS MEANS I HAVE MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO SHILL/BITCH ABOUT GUNDAM RELATED CONTENT THAT ISN'T ANIME, MANGA, OR VIDEO GAME RELATED!

Anyway, the fist piece of literature I want to recommend to everyone is the original Mobile Suit Gundam novels written by Yoshiyuki Tomino at the same time he was directing/writing/creating the original Mobile Suit Gundam series (and by extension the franchise as a whole).

To keep myself from 100% geeking out and just giving a synopsis of the whole book, I'll try to keep it brief and list some points as to why you may want to check this out as a book on it's own merits.

  1. This book takes the concept of the original Gundam series and strips all of the elements that were added to make it marketable to children. That means no goofy mechs designed to sell toys, no mustache twirling villains, and the mechs that have remained have been mostly retooled or quickly done away with to be replaced with mechs that are less special and are just another piece of military hardware. Minor spoilers for the novel, but early on the original [Gundam from the OG series with it's bright and vibrant colors] (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/2/23/78-2.jpeg/revision/latest?cb=20130426115800) is destroyed and replaced with different model known as the [G3 that features a dark grey color scheme to look like a more believable color scheme that an actual military might employ] (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/1/13/78-3.jpeg/revision/latest?cb=20130426115825).

  2. You might have noticed that I mention the original Gundam being destroyed early on, and there's a reason for that. This was before Tomino had a plan for the series fully laid out, so the novels and the anime completely differ outside of the opening moments of the book and series. The novels are much darker (for Gundam fans, I would say it's around Zeta levels of dark), serious, and feature way less campier moments. The might as well be two different series as the only similarities they have are sharing character names, and even then those characters are sometimes 100% different than their anime counterparts. These changes also include different fates for major characters on both sides of the conflict. Characters who died in the anime end up living in this and vice versa.

  3. As this is based on the original series and was one of the first pieces of Gundam content created, you can just jump right in to this with no prior knowledge of the franchise and enjoy it as a cool stand alone sci-fi war novel even without any attachment to the franchise.

For those of you interested in checking this out, there's been a few different versions of this novelization released in english, but the newest version with an updated translation was released a few years ago and is known as Mobile Suit Gundam: Awakening, Escalation, Confrontation and can be found on Amazon.

Here's the link to its Amazon page for those of you interested.

    https://www.amazon.com/Mobile-Suit-Gundam-Escalation-Confrontation/dp/1611720052

It's not perfect by any means as it can be a little dry in some areas when compared to most other Gundam anime as there is very little comedy to ever lighten the mood. I suspect a lot of the more comedic elements of the original Gundam series were things probably added due to influence by members of the creation team like the character designer, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko as Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's own manga adaption of the OG Gundam story called Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin from the 2000s is downright hilarious at times.

Comedy is something Yoshiyuki Tomino would pick up and add on his own to later works and spawn his own brand of weird "Tomino" comedy to accompany his own weird brand of "Tomino" writing and characterization.

But if you want a solid 8/10 sci-fi war story then I highly recommend it. It's great for newcomers just getting into the franchise, and it's great for longtime fans who may want a radically different take on a story they are probably already very familiar with.

So I decided to re-sub to Amazon Prime just for The X-Files because I've been starving for that show for years and I had no idea it was available. I'm super hyped. I love how weird the show feels in the first few episodes. Season 1 isn't the strongest in the show's history (pretty sure Season 5 takes that award) but it's not crap, either.

Anticipating the "trapped in a videogame" episode that I seem to remember being complete hilarious garbage when it aired. Can't wait to see how horribly it's aged.

Beat the MK 11 story mode in like an evening. I don't get what the disappointment was about. It was pretty obvious that NRS couldn't keep the story arc going as it was (despite the introduction of the new blood in the last game). I really don't blame them for hitting the reset button, given how ridiculous and convoluted the game's history is. >!The Raiden vs. Liu Kang vision that Raiden receives was pretty cool though, just to see all the neat different versions of them duking it out.!<

Disappointed that Cetrion is just a jobber and Kronika is basically a floating bald woman >!who pretty much essentially wins in the end despite dying (she managed to reset the timeline, after all. At least that means we'll probabl get to see Mileena again;)!< and that Geras, despite having a badass personality and a great character design, is just... there. Meh. Also Kotal. Ooof.

After trying a few characters, I'm surprised to find that I'm really enjoying Skarlet. Given that most of the video I'd seen of her had cemented her very specifically as a zoner, I was impressed by her neutral and reset game and glad that I didn't have to rely necessarily on her zoning game (which really pales in comparison to the likes of Cetrion). I don't really give a shit about "tournament" versions of her character, and my version has her set up to fight at all ranges with the benefit of her DoT aura, her teleport and a defensive shield. She's very cool.

Haven't touched the Krypt at all. According to Max, there are apparently chests you can open in it that are in the same place for everyone. so I'm hoping someone has a guide out there where I can at least unlock some of Skarlet's stuff. What a pain in the ass.

Game's fun, though.

Not sure how it compares to anything medium-high end but I have this keyboard and love it a lot. I got it on sale for like $50 so it's a little more now but current price is still great for how quality it feels. Changing the backlight is a little hinky at first but the keys feel great and the board itself is very sturdy without being super bulky (if that matters to you, I have limited space so it was important for me). Definitely click-clacky keys though if you're wanting silent typing, so be aware of that.

Can also give a go-ahead for the Logitech G mice, I have one of the wireless G305 as I rarely use mice for games and it's very snappy and responsive and feels great to use. I see the G series recommended a lot for "budget" pics on /r/buildapcforme and the like.

So, I haven't mentioned it on here much, but a couple of weeks ago I finished and published my first creator-owned graphic novel, Letters from Midia. Fun fantasy action story heavily inspired by Legend of Zelda and Samurai Jack. No punch girls or Woolie lookalikes sadly, but I do manage to throw in an enemy that was blatantly inspired by Dark Souls bosses. .It's been in its own quiet area of the Amazon store, but it was pretty fun to take the project from concept to completion.

One of my big goals for the book was to take it and my portfolio to NYCC, which I have done. The good news is that one day in I have received some very excellent feedback from professionals. A few big names drawing comics today were pretty positive about my art. I was even told to consider showing my portfolio to some editors, which I'm going to try to do today.

Bad news is that one pro was very unimpressed with my stuff. Not going to name names, but he is known for being honest, but critical. It's a bummer to feel that an artist you respect doesn't see much in you, but his criticisms were helpful. Not keeping me down.

This is what it's all about, guys.

So since I moved out, I started getting my own figurine collection, I'm at work so I can't post pics, but... I have some very cool figures from Panty and Stocking, and Gurren Lagaan, but gaming wise I have a Rhino statue from Warframe, which is not as cool as Umbra ones but I love his thighs... I also have a Uganda Knuckles figure... I'm not letting it out of the box for the fear of curses.

I'm also proud of my CD collection of games that I still carry for the last like... 12 years. That small case traveled across the world and has Sonic Adventure, Sonic Riders, Sonic Heroes, KOTOR 2, HoMM 3 and a bunch of other CDs I don't even remember. Remember when gaming magazines came with CDs?! Remember gaming magazines?!!

...I also have a shot glass with a Gurren logo. It's pretty cool. And a classy glass cup with a D20.

Ok so Woolie mentioned this thing about an "Araki is the Bible" imgur album, and I went looking for it.

Instead, I FOUND THIS

>Jo-Jo's Bible Adventure takes children on a fun and interactive journey with big brother Jonathan and little sister Jolie through popular Bible stories. Readers will learn bible stories through a unique storytelling voice accentuated with rhyming verses. Children will enjoy reading the action packed stories beginning with the Creation of the World, to Noah and the significance of the Rainbow and Jacob the heel catcher and ending with the Israelites' escape from Egypt. The biblical scenes are uniquely illustrated with vibrant colors and the characters possess various melanin complexions that all kids will enjoy. This book is the first book in the Jo-Jo's Adventures series which includes Jo-Jo's Bible Camp Adventures, Jo-Jo's Christmas Adventures and Jo-Jo's Easter Adventures.

(Emphasis mine)

Persona 4 Golden is a great RPG/Dungeon crawler/waifuing socializing/ game and if you like P4G you can get Persona 4 Dancing All Night, the story isn't as good as P4G but the music is outstanding.

Stiens;Gate is pretty much just a visual novel the only "game" aspect of it is responding to the emails you get, that's how you decide your ending. It just got a sequel too, but I haven't played that yet so I can't really recommend it yet.

I was never big into Final Fantasy but if you are World of Final Fantasy will probably be a game you'd enjoy. Again haven't played it or any other FF really, but I heard this one's not bad.

u/machopunk · 1 pointr/TwoBestFriendsPlay

That stick looks almost identical to my first stick, and here's the best way to look at it;

Are you wanting a stick to see if you like/want to use arcade sticks over controllers? Not a bad deal

Are you wanting a stick to actually play stuff with? This stick is trash (the parts are so cheap that it'll break within weeks, not to mention no weight to it so it'll slide around constantly). If you end up liking how a stick feels and plays, you'll pretty quickly wish you had a better one.

The cheapest stick out there that's solid for the long term would be the HORI RAP 4. It's a great stick that I used for a long while, and would still be using if I didn't want a heavier stick and grabbed the Madcatz TE2 stick.

I've been splitting my time between Modern Warfare (the skinner box is real) and experimenting with builds in Grim Dawn using the arena-like Crucible mode + Cheat Engine. I just cannot seem to settle on something that feels "good" in the same way a build in PoE or D3 does. I keep having this problem whenever I jump back to this game and I can't understand why. The man-suit wearing Lovecraftian monstrosities are pretty awesome, though.

LOCAL 58 released a new video at the beginning of the month adding a bit more to the lore. DO NOT LOOK AT THE MOON.

Also been on a binge of videos of Oney and Co. doing stupid voices and M83's 3-video trilogy about psychic kids stranded between Earth and space. Also Outro, because "Melancholia" fits that song shockingly well.

Edit: OH SHIT. Forgot to mention that I started watching Blade of the Immortal. On one hand, the dedication to scene-for-scene remakes of actual pages from the manga is awesome and spectacular, and I love the surprisingly decent adherence to Samura's art style while still also including their own "between the lines" additions that actually add "more" to some scenes.

On the other hand, the combat is often extremely fast. Like disorientingly and distractingly so, and not exactly in a good way. I get that the majority of these fights are between godlike swordsmen and people of extreme talents, but man it's hard to take sometimes. I do like their attempts at adherence to Samura's mandala-like kill scenes despite them happening insanely fast, and I'm glad they put them in the show, but they really can't compare. Still, I'd rather have them try than they not be there at all.

Definitely better than the last attempt at an anime of this series, so far. Makie is still best waifu.

Edit to the Edit: Y'all into skateboarding at all? Check out Thrasher's Halloween 2019 vid. Some pretty great shit this year, including Skateboard Limbo.

As a fellow 3DS owner I highly recommend getting a grip accessory of some kind. I have a n3DSxl and got the official, Japan only monster Hunter grip and it's simply amazing. It's almost as good as any console controller, hopefully there's a good one for n2DSxl (I hate these acronyms). Also, I really like these circle pad covers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UURTXK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WLs1CbSHQJ76G

Also also, I recommend installing cfw. It's easy to do and you get a lot of benefits that aren't just piracy like custom themes that can cycle, increasing the CPU clock speed which makes games like MGS3 3D much more playable, and installing game mods that even work with carts. No, you won't actually get banned from online unless you try to play a game online that hasn't officially been released yet (and it's still circumventable regardless)

You might enjoy "The Black Company"

While the love story isn't the main focus, it does hit every single one of your main points. As an added bonus it also makes fun of one of the points you don't like. Kinda

Its a pretty big series, the whole thing is ~3000 pages. While it is my personal favorite, that is a lot of reading to recommend.

u/Dath123 · 29 pointsr/TwoBestFriendsPlay

It was a bizarre Yaoi, where the guy's dog turns into a person randomly and they have sex, then later his goldfish also turns into a person and they have sex too.

I'm not even into Yaoi to begin with but this was another level. It was included in a HUGE manga collection in a storage bin I got off a friend, and I was just perusing through all of it.

Some strange stuff man, and apparently is a popular thing? At least there seems to be a lot of examples of the same idea, animals turning into humans then having sex.

Edit: I found the exact series by just browsing similar content and recognizing the cover work, it's [Man's Best Friend: Inu Mo Arukeba] (https://www.amazon.com/Mans-Best-Friend-Inu-Arukeba/dp/1598163574)

I really liked Batman:Hush. It has a "who done it" mystery feel, and it showcases a ton of Batman characters.

Matt Fraction's Hawkeye. This one is kind of hate it or love it, but I recommend giving it a shot. It's not exactly "a complete story" like you asked, each volume is a collection of shorter stories though . It's a very different take on a hero with no powers, on a world of supermen

Green Lantern Corps : Recharge I liked this one because the famous Green Lanterns aren't the main focus, but the Corps in general through the eyes of new recruits.

If you don't mind non-superhero comics, I also recomend looking into:

I Kill Giants. Can't say too much for this without spoilers, it's a very artistic heartwarming story

Seconds. A more fairy tale style story about a girl who gets the ability to magically correct mistakes she made in the past

Solanin. A coming of age story about a girl who decides to quit her job because she's not happy with her life

Prepackaged oatmeal, like Quaker brand, is processed rolled oats, which are oats without the husks. Check out steel cut oats, which are just chopped up whole oats. Way more nutrition out of those babies.

No am I not being paid by Bob's Red Mill lol. I just really like their oats and bulgur and I can get them on Amazon. Wish I could get a sponsorship.

That's what i use, it has a net that carries earphones, slots for cards, and what it doesn't show you is if you worry about the Vita falling out, there is straps under where the Vita is on that picture, that can be pulled over to strap in the Vita. The arm strap can be replaced, if you want a better one, like say the type of strap on a wii controller, that ties around your wrist.
