In Indiana. On the colder days wore a cheap fingerless thinsulate mitten (the mitten and the thumb can be folded back if needed...rarely needed) on my left hand. On my right hand I'd wear a variety of gloves. My favorite was a neoprene like ski glove with tacky finger pads and palm. I like a fairly tight flexible glove on my hand.

Remember to go a little lighter with the flats on your arm and dps in your hand on the sub-zero days. Restricting the blood flow too much can make your fingers go numb quick.

In starting as a CCA on monday ! I just wen on Amazon.com and ordered these . They seem like they will get the job done pretty good. I think they use these in the oil field? I'm not sure. But I an pretty certain that they will perform just fine. Polarized is the way to go.

I live in 97201, and just this morning (Sunday) I heard a knock on my door, opened it, and was handed a small package bearing no postal indicia by a smiling Amazon courier. I only paid for standard shipping, BTW—not a Prime member or anything like that.

I believe this was one of the first parts of the country to get Amazon drop shipments, so it's not too surprising that this would also be a spot for them to try expanding their door-to-door delivery network. Hard to say how much revenue we'll be losing, since that's all proprietary information and subject to non-disclosure agreements, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see CCA and F4 PSE hours going down as a consequence.

On the bright side, I now get to enjoy Frank Zappa's latest a day earlier than I would have otherwise. Thanks Amazon!

As far as the headphones go, I wouldn't buy anything too expensive. I bought https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Headphones-TaoTronics-TT-BH07-Waterproof/dp/B06ZYX6Y1T and removed the little ear clips. They're fairly comfortable, the back of each earbud has a magnet so they stick together, and the battery lasts 8+ hours. I originally bought them as a backup pair for a more expensive pair, but to be honest I like them better than the more expensive ones.

Arm sleeves - These are great year round, the more you sweat the cooler they get.
Bluetooth Speaker/Charger - If he's in an LLV and the outlet doesn't work this doubles as a charger, I've been using this for over a year and the speaker is loud and last for over 3 days.
LED rechargable lantern - These are great during the fall/winter months when we're out late, I clip it to my satchel and it illuminates my entire body and a decent area around me so I don't fumble with a clip light on my cap. Plus if you do box deliveries you can clip it to the top of the door and see pretty damn well.

I used to go fingerless but my hands were getting destroyed, looked like I had scales over all my nuckles.

I've been using these the last couple years and my hands feel much better and can still flip through almost as easily.

Surprisingly warm for how thin they are and can finger through mail very easily with them because of how tight they are along with the grippy material.

I do tend to to through 2 or 3 a winter though as the fingertips eventually give way and get holes in them but for 10$ a pair I'll take it.

Something comfortable and weather appropriate, enjoy being able to wear comfortable clothes while you can. If you live in a cold region you might wanna get this sweater, I wear it all the time and even though its not regulation no one has ever said anything. It's nice to have at least one piece of postal clothing on so people can recognize you as mailman.

The best thing to do is probably just forward to the temporary address and once construction is completed delete the forward and send the mail to your new house. Also remember forwards are really meant to catch mail till you can change all your address information with mailers.

If you forget to check the box it may overflow and cause a little headache.

Not saying you have to do it but your mail carrier would greatly appreciate an oversized mailbox.
Extra large box

Let’s us put in more items and mail. Dependent on how much mail you get daily the regular mailboxes fill up pretty fast.

Base Layers definitely! For 0 degree days, you'll want a pair of snowpants.

I like wool socks (they aren't cheap ....$15-$20 a pair). They have some in the postal catalog you can use your allowance on that are really thick.

I still wear my regular Brooks shoes in the winter and just put a Tingley overshoe or boot over it when it's slushy or snowing out. My post office supplies cleats and I love the Due North style. Other brands that they buy don't stay on as well and can cause you to slide on smooth dry concrete.

I'm still searching for the perfect pair of gloves. Fingering the mail is going to chew up anything so just buy multiple pairs. They will get wet with sweat or snow so keep them on hand to change out during the day. You can have a much thicker glove for your left hand and a fingerless version for your right. Some people swear by handwarmers. I don't care for them. For 0 degree days I'm still wearing my Hanz Chillblocker gloves with a liner glove that I bought with my uniform allowance but I don't see them available anymore.

These are sub $20, and some of the highest rated and best selling on Amazon. I've had them for a few weeks and love them.

Bloody Knuckles Hand Repair Balm by Duke Cannon is the shiznit: good price point, you only need a little, absorbs right in (no greasy feeling), doesn't have any offending smell, and your hands will feel better right away.

I don't have an LLV but I do have a Bluetooth Speaker that has an aux jack. This is the one I use but since its a little pricey I'd suggest waiting till black Friday and you can probably grab it pretty cheap. Its has more bass and better sound quality than any Beats or Bose at half the price.

I have flat and wide feet. I’ve tried the New Balances, Reeboks, and Rocky brands of work shoes and all either don’t last or are uncomfortable. Keens are the way to go. None have compared to the Keens. They are the most supportive and comfortable work shoes I’ve tried. They can be found on Amazon

Note for USPS employees: these are not green tag postal approved and is not eligible with the uniform allowance. They look very similar to approved shoes though and are also slip resistant

You have to find a shoe that works for you. You may try quite a few before you find it. I switch around a lot, but these Wolverine Men's Griffin 6 inch SR Work Boot has been pretty good for me.

Yes, I understand how the box opens. I would use a tilt switch to turn the device on and check for mail. It wouldn't have like, exposed wires hanging out everywhere. It would just be a small box in a nice case that sits on the bottom.

There are commercial products that do the same thing, so I'm kind of hoping that if I give it a nice professional and discreet look it shouldn't cause any problems.

Agreed with the light weight pants. Same idea with shirts. Don't waste money on long sleeves. I just get short sleeves. On the extra cold days I just wear a thermal top and long johns underneath. For gloves I got these last year Elite MaxiFlex 34-274 Ultra Light Weight Glove with Nitrile Coated Grip on Palm and Fingers, (Sizes S-XL), Large, 3 Piece https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R5KJ5PY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_8hYKBb89JKBAC and wear them with the rubber gloves underneath. 3 pairs lasted me all winter
