Unity has excellent official documentation from my experience, especially compared to Unreal.
I didn't know this. I figured some portion would be applicable but probably not a ton or even most. I grabbed head first C# for a different reason and ended up not needing it and am now hopeful that it wasn't money wasted even if it doesn't directly have to do with Unity.

It starts you from the complete beginner approach to programming which is what I needed. I am a few chapters in and loving it.
Down side is that it is just programming for unity, it does not teach you much other than the very basics of using unity and the features of it so I would recommend using it with a companion book. (I picked up 2 of the Unity2d books I found on amazon as well).

I would check out this book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1849697345/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 shows the basics of creating a 2D RPG in Unity. It is slightly out dated due to the UI changes in 4.6, but everything else is right on.
They don't make mine anymore, I bought it a little over a year ago so it's outdated. But here it is:

Considering I only paid $750 (all I could afford) it gets the job done. I have not had a single issue with it, and I always get at least 60FPS even when playing games like Just Cause 2 or Fallout, and in making my 2D game in Unity it rarely drops below 250FPS (usually my fault if it does).
