Many console headsets and some PC headsets (like the Razer Krakens) have decent sound quality but the microphone sounds very tinny, cheap and just generally garbage.

I would recommend getting a pair of earbuds and then attaching the Antlion Modmic to your headset. It sounds super good in comparison to all the other headset mics I've ever tested.

In terms of earbuds, literally any will be fine, as long as they're not like $5 SkullCandy ones. The ones that come with your phone are ideal. My personal choice is the SoundMagic E10 earbuds (Amazon UK, Amazon US). They are a little pricey but I love them so much.

I hope this helps you make an informed decision! :)

I just used the stands the sensors came with and put them on my roof upside down, but you can buy proper wall/ roof mounts from amazon or you could even 3D print your own. The mounts would help if you want a good looking setup though.

I put the sensors on the roof so I would t run into them and knock hem over

Honestly you can just save yourself the $300 and buy These off of amazon and hang them up. Ever since I got them no more tangled cables and I have almost all the freedom from having it wireless. There retractable so the cable is always above you.

This is how I currently have them set up in my room Link

Squuee! Now I'm excited. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019IFIJW8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This is the battery I have which I've seen a bunch of people use before. Are you saying you can charge your external battery with another battery? Hahaa, thats actually pretty smart. Do you have it head mounted? Or in your pocket/waist?

Get every single piece of free content you can find. Consume the shit out of it. Get all the free stuff on the rift home and then move onto steam. Get demos too.

That will give you a good idea of the type of content you will and wont enjoy.

However, there are 2 games you can't go wrong with imho. "The Climb" and "Star Trek: Bridge Crew". Those games are magic and stupid fun. You wont regret them.

Dont worry about sensors for now. Thats an issue for a later day. You're a nub-cake atm and dont need to worry about that stuff just yet.

I purchased that bad boy. One day you will get hot and sweaty, your rift will get wet and soggy. You wont enjoy it. That little fucker helps with that. Also, one day, you will notice that the foam on your rift likes to collect every single fucking stray hair that grazes it. Those hairs will tickle the fuck out of your face. That cover helps with that a bit too, but your nose will still get tickled. It also feels nicer on the face.

So if you get the adapter,

  1. you’ll need another battery, I bought 2 extra but that because I’m crazy

An ankler 10,000 watt is the same size and weight as the included battery but lasts about 3-4 hours (around twice as long as the htc once) an Ankler 20,000 is more expensive and double the weight but lasts between 7-8 hours on a single charge (actually I’ve never run out of battery life while using that one) you can also hotswap them if one runs out of battery life as long as you do it quickly

  2. you need a USB 40mm fan, w/o this the adapter is gonna overheat and run at 90c constantly.. with the fan set on low it stays around 40-50c for me which should limit disconnects.

    I’m using this one

    https://www.amazon.com/ELUTENG-Ventilator-Compatible-Receiver-Playstation/dp/B071JB9WYB/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=40+mm+usb+fan&qid=1568919841&sr=8-4

Just plug it into the spare usb slot on the vive and have the fans facing down. You can attach it anyway you want but I used Velcro tape

  3. run the wireless vive software as administrator and in preferences disable full screen optimizations.

One of the cavets of wireless is occasional disconnects or gray/black screens.. but it’s not enough to make me want to go back teathered... and doing the steps above should limit when it happens by a significant amount.. you also usually fix most problems by just reseating the battery or unplugging and plugging in the usb cord.. but sometimes you might need to restart SteamVR or the wireless tech.

It’s not perfect.. but when it works, IT WORKS and it’s freaking amazing and the same as wired

Oh yeah make sure your chaperone/playspace is set slightly smaller then you normally keep it, also keep it at beginner settings. You’re not going to know where you are in your placespace until you get used to cordless

Oculus Rift CV1 requires at least one sensor to function. In fact it was originally sold with only one sensor and no Touch controllers. The original expectation was for seated play.

I'm not sure it'll work with VRChat with headset + keyboard & mouse, but you can try it.

If you lost the stands for your sensors I'd like to point out that the sensors have a standard 1/4"-20 screw connection. That will allow you to use any clamps/tripods meant for camera gear. Something like this, though there's many other options if this won't work.

The all-rubber pulleys I have from Kiwi design hold up very well. If you worry about them falling off from the hooks you can always add some more security with some DIY stuff like tape or rubber bands.

I don't know if it changes anything but you can get a windows mixed reality headset for about $180 that can play all vive games (including VRchat). I'm tempted to get one myself considering how cheap they're getting. Link

MY BRUDDA
DO YOU KNOW DA WAE?
Busy ordering the pc parts now. just hunting through black friday deals, but its gonna be i5, i7 depending on the deals i can get, but the GPU will be ray tracing card as a must.
8 to 16g ram, so looking at a pc around 13 to 15 grand in zars, 884$ to 1020$ plus minus.
Im specifically looking at the RTX 2060 as its the lowest entry in the ray tracing series.

You need to plug your base stations into your computer and install updates.

You also need the HTC vive link box.

So you're recommending this Kinect and this adapter? I'll see if GameStop has a Kinect for cheaper if so.
