Thank you for sharing your insight and experience with me! :) I ended up doing just this. I was afraid that the bigger size would also turn out to be a bad fit and thus cause me to go through the anxiety-inducing hassle of returning the shoes once again (which is partly why I created this thread), but concluded that I really had no other choice but to be brave and take the risk, as no amount of information can ever 100% protect me from that or substitute good old-fashioned trial and error.
So, I ordered size 8 (which is half a size up from the first pair that I had bought) and it turned out to fit me decently. It was still a bit of a struggle to get my feet into them and they were still a bit narrow as well, but not intolerably so. I hardly noticed a difference length-wise, so it looks like the main difference between sizes 7.5 and 8 is actually the width instead of the length. Everything combined, I decided to keep this pair, figuring that it was the best compromise between length and width that I was going to get in this case - especially when you take into account that the shoes will stretch after a little while. As such, I'm now the proud owner of the surplus nylon dusky green classic slip-ons and glad that I took the plunge! :D

I love the Slacklace elastic laces, which I'm hoping to eventually replace all my high-top sneaker laces with. They have the same type of aglet/tip as regular laces, so will work with any pair of shoes. The colorway you're looking for is "Bright Green/Black" and I think they stopped production of that specific colorway as a mainline product a couple years ago. I did find one Amazon listing that still had a single pair in stock in a Men's Size 11.
If that's not your size, they do still offer "Bright Green" as one of the styles in the Customizer on the official Vans website. It's like $85 for a custom pair of Authentics.

okay, so these specifically are the ones I'm looking at, they're $13 under retail with free shipping? Shady?
If anyone wants to know details on the patches, I purchased them on amazon . I made sure the sizes were right (8x3.5cm), and that they had the hook backing (as the shoes have the loop portion of the velcro). The seller has some varying colors. There’s a neat white background/red lettering variation of the NASA worm logo that would look tight on the white sk8 hi voyagers.
