One of the things that’s been most fun for me with vaporwave Minidiscs has been putting together MDs for albums I enjoy, and especially picking/editing/the cover art and spines for each of them - so I thought I’d share a few of the customs I’ve made, and see if other people wanted to share how they make their own!
I got a pack of MDW80BC discs (the “Basic” clear ones) from Japan for blanks, and I’ve been using a Polaroid ZiP printer to print out artwork. It prints on sticker paper that I stick on the inside of the case labels - they fit the dimensions pretty perfectly, so it’s quick and easy!
The second picture in the album has all the custom VWMDs I’ve made so far. The top row is three of my favourite climatewave/signalwave releases:
And the bottom row is all from Matatabi, a producer from Japan who does some amazing seasonally-themed beattapes:
For the spines (third pic) I try to use bits of the album art that are recognisable, and usually cobbled together from happy misprints or bits of the art that got trimmed off for the cover. The only one I did any editing on was Snowfall (in the close up, pics 4 & 5), cloning the snow above the fox to get it to go all the way up the spine.

It was a lot of fun making these, and I’d love to see/hear what other people are doing! (Both in terms of art and what you put on your MDs - Albums? Custom mixes? etc.!)
Yes, there are at least three options (maybe more I am not familiar with). If you purchase an external audio interface with a USB -> Toslink digital path (like the Behringer U-Control UCA222), and an appropriate cable, you can transfer all the digital audio content you want in real time from your computer to your MZ-N505. Then you'd need to place your own track marks and name the tracks manually. With NetMD software running on a PC, you can transfer WAV files directly to an MD at LP quality and naming files is much easier. There is more modern software for Windows, Mac, and Linux that can afford SP transfers and which also automates file naming, but you'll need to be comfortable with a command line interface. Setting up any of this is a little outside my ability to support directly, but there are many tutorials online to be found if you look/ask around.
