There's a comprehensive list at https://banweb.banner.vt.edu/ssb/prod/hzsksorg.P_MakeList?genre=%25&gradonly=%25

I got this book before coming here as a freshman. Nothing too in-depth, but its a pretty good overview of how things are in Blacksburg thats updated yearly.

I graduated In Aerospace Engineering with a minor in math 2 years ago. The professor, Rogers (if he is still teaching) is really good in office hours. I Would also recommend having a study group in that class. We had a group of 4 spiting ideas off another till we understand the material.

this book helped : https://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Fourier-Integrals-Dover-Mathematics/dp/0486453073

If math 4425 is still Fourier Integrals

I hope this helps. good luck

This one is the one I've seen a lot of people with. It's laser and only prints in black and white, but most people don't need color (and when they do they just go to Newman to get color prints). You're going to need to get a usb cable though since VT wifi isn't very accepting of wireless printers. It cant scan though, so if you want a scanner you're going to have to pay a little more, but a lot of the time you can find a friend who has a scanner and save the extra buck.

I actually saved that from my search earlier. I picked up a nice inexpensive messenger bag, but I'll probably just use it for fun/when I feel like it.

I already bought a laptop sleeve as well.

I've kinda narrowed it down between what you posted and this Targus backpack

I would assume just about all of them would be, I didn't think any of them were not acceptable but personally I had the Mr. Coffee 12 cup pot cheapo walmart special and never heard anything about not being allowed to have it. A friend of mine went with a small french press to make a few cups at a time.

This would be the exact model I had at the time to be specific. Very reliable as it still continues to brew good coffee even today. I also lived in Vawter so no one really gave a damn about rules or regulations if that matters at all. Was a little loud, but usually didn't wake my roommate up.

In my experience, the tablets are only applicable for 2 classes, ENGE 1215 and 1216 (at least for a CS major like me). The engineering teachers I had didn't care if you didn't have one and allowed you to draw with your mouse/touchpad/touchscreen or submit on paper if you didn't have a tablet. If you do get a teacher that cares about the requirement, a USB tablet like this should do fine: https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Bamboo-CTL471-Tablet-Black/dp/B00EVOXM3S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1496189928&sr=8-3&keywords=bamboo+tablet

That's just it though, a company pays a large amount of money to license the VT logo, so they have to make it up somewhere. Additionally frames aren't cheap, and even places like amazon are 100-150 ish (try VT Frame But if you want something without the VT logo, try Michaels or a framing store not near the university. Otherwise, take your original, order a couple extra copies (25-50 bucks each or so) and thumb tack it to the wall. When one fades/wears out, put next one up. Every 5-7 years you'll have a fresh diploma on the wall and still come out ahead (please don't do this).

Get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/NEEWER-Digital-Shutter-Release-Trigger/dp/B005LTH7QA
I use it all the time and love it. It will allow you to set a pre-timer so that you can get into your car and then you can set the long exposure time through it also. I use it primarily for timelapse photography. Worth every penny.

Get one of the mattress pads for those beds...trust me they make it so much more comfortable to sleep on and aren't too pricey. (Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Innovations-2-Inch-Memory-Mattress/dp/B002NEG15E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1373695774&sr=8-2&keywords=foam+mattress+pad+extra+long+twin )

They're pretty sweet, but the only problem I have is that you can get the exact same khaki pants without the logo for half the price. The logo is sweet, but is it really worth double?

I assume he's talking about Bose IE2 In-Ear headphones. Here they are on Amazon.

I got them on sale at BestBuy a year ago for $80, and got a $10 or $15 two-year accidental coverage warranty through them. I flew to Europe that same day and was incredibly thankful I got them, because they were the first pair of headphones that I could comfortably wear while asleep and leaning up against a wall or pillow. They were also the first pair of >$20 headphones I bought, and there's no going back.

Printers are super useful. If you don't have one and your roommate doesn't either, it's time to get your first laser printer.

Yes, it's only black and white, but as a student, that's all you need, if that. You'll never spend a fortune on ink ever again.

I'm in the process of learning SQL myself. I can write queries but I'm a beginner; taking Microsoft's 761 SQL exam at the end of the month...

I'm using two things to study for the exam:

-Free class in edx.org

-Book in T-SQL Fundamentals with exercises, $40 bucks

This is just what I've been using. T-SQL is the Microsoft flavor of SQL. I checked out the W3Schools website that someone suggested and it looks really good. Between that and the edx.org class (free) you will be up and running.

I think this one is too heavy Lenovo Legion

Same with the one above too heavy Acer Predator Helios

2 in 1 Dell Inspiron

Asus Vivobook

Asus Zenbook

So my main questions:

  1. 8gb ram vs 16gb ram (DDR3 vs DDR4 as well)

  2. i5 vs i7

  3. What gen processor to buy (7th or 8th) and what type (U or HQ basically dual core or quad core)?

  4. SSD vs HDD

  5. If SSD then how much (256gb vs 512gb)?

  6. Integrated or dedicated GPU? (Light to no gaming btw)

Tech engineering requires 16gb ram, 7th gen i5 or i7, and 256gb SSD...

    Thanks a lot btw
