I do both. Some colors of wash I just use a LOT. Nuln oil, Reikland Fleshshade, Agrax Earthshade. These are my workhorse washes, and it's frankly just easier to buy the pot.

Other washes I'll make. P3 Blighted Gold makes a great wash over P3 Solid Gold for example. You end up with a slightly green tinged set of armor (it comes up a lot with Circle).

To make a wash I'll take ~2 brush fulls of paint, add 1-2 drops of mixing medium, and then add water till it's pretty thin (skim milk consistence or less). You'll get a feel for it with time, but as a rule better to over-thin than under for a wash.

Ive used and had great success with Vallejo arcyllics. There are tons of YouTube videos on how to use the stuff. If you want a more cracked earth style desert I think Games Workshop makes a paint in a pot for that too.

I think that's an awesome starting plan. After you get the hang of it, and start making other model purchases, you can start new painting techniques.

I really recommend getting yourself a set of helping hands.

Cheapest - https://www.dollartree.com/toys/action-figures-cars/Plastic-Action-Figures-2-/629c635c635p294318/index.pro

Cheap - https://www.amazon.com/Toysmith-36-Piece-Guardian-Knights-Action/dp/B000YA7FS6

Not as cheap, but actually good miniatures and can be used for RPG stuff- http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones

The first two won't ever look nice and the paint might eventually flake off, but 36 plastic warriors for $8 is a good place to practice building up whites, painting metals, basic highlights, and different color combinations, before you slap paint on a $25 warjack.

After trying those I tried these. They are lighter and more comfortable on my head. The lense swap out is pretty simple.

To my knowledge, only the original Minions vs Cygnar CoI box has been released. None of the other factions have been released.

The faction paints are restocked in waves. I see them out of stock every few years, then they'll come back. They're a great buy, since you get 6 paints for about the price of 5.

Up until 2014-15 all of the fluff was just in the core and faction rule books. Since then, a number of novels have been released. There is a up to date, compiled list around here or the main forums somewhere. i'll see if I can find it.

Very cool scheme dude. I like the fire.

I notice you are having a bit of trouble with the yellows opacity. Try mixing a bit of white (not a shit ton) into your yellow for the base coat. Then you can come back in with the yellow you actually want :)
I really think p3 has a great yellow in the heartfire yellow. http://www.amazon.com/Privateer-Press-Formula-Heartfire-Model/dp/B001BRDJSQ

Hope this helps.

I went the DIY route and have been happy with the outcome for a few months now.

You can purchase cuatomizeable foam from someone like Pelican. Then purchase a cheap big plastic toolbox. Cut to fit.

I use an ultra sonic jewelry cleaner with gem and jewelry cleaner or simple green. Then just hit it with a tooth brush. Works great.

Watch leaving plastic in simple green too long, eventually it will eat the plastic.

Thats the box of the old 3 model min unit. Notice how that in the description says PIP 33043? Thats the 3 man box. You could get that, and then buy 2 more PIP 33044, the 1 model Uhlan box, but that's a hassle. Any box that comes to around $50 USD will pretty much be the 3 man.

You want to be looking for PIP 33111. Thats the 5 man box. That will be closer to $85-90 USD.

EDIT: Looking at Amazon.ca, This is the 5 man box.

For carrying stuff back and two, you need to invest in a battlefoam bag. They're just plain worth it.

For home storage I actually love these.

I don't know about "no brands", but the cheap Kindle Fire handles WarRoom2 perfectly fine. They are on sale right now for $40.

I picked up a badger velocity from my local hobby store for $125 - amazon link

http://www.amazon.com/Badger-Air-Brush-R1V-Renegade-Velocity/dp/B0013NBQLA

I picked up a compressor from the same store for $100 similar to this:

http://www.amazon.com/Quiet-AIRBRUSH-TANK-COMPRESSOR-FREE-HOSE/dp/B001738DXU/ref=sr_1_23?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1346952175&sr=1-23&keywords=air+compressor

The tank on the compressor is great, I would certainly advise getting one with an air tank otherwise you can get this weird 'pulse' with tank less compressors. The first one I bought didn't have one and I returned it the first day.

My only advice if your going to be picking one up is to either be very careful when dis-asembling and cleaning or buying extra needles/nozzles as I bent my first needle within a few hours of owning it, and stepped on a nozzle which ruined it.

I, and most people I see who use them, use a laser level which you can find in most any hardware store or, of course, online.

As an added bonus, they make deployment a breeze (see player on left). Just measure your 7" or 10" close to one table edge, lay the laser down at that point, and measure again along the opposite edge to make sure it's...well...level. Then you can quickly and accurately deploy your models without constantly remeasuring or relying on a scattering of dice/markers.

I used Vallejo Desert Sand Gel for the bases on my friend's desert hydras.

If you let it dry most of the way, you can sort of sculpt it so it isn't just a flat surface. I used a paperclip with some greenstuff blobs to create depressions and peaks in the sand, you can't see them too well in the pics though.
