Most books on things like this are on the more expensive side, but this one is one of the best I've read. I'm currently with the same company as the author of this book, but without bias it's genuinely excellent.

You can google "coffee cupping ceremony" and should find some interesting things too about drinking green coffee.

Personally, some of the more unusual ways I've had coffee served to me include the beans bring lightly pan fried and being grilled so you get a bean that's roasted only on one side. They were both just very usual.

>This is the most ridiculous argument I’ve ever heard.

57% of US Greenhouse emissions come from transportation and electricity. Both you can absolutely change yourself. Nothing is stopping you from buying an EV and solar panels with a storage system. And in fact it is cheaper to do so now.

Lets focus on electricity, the average daily electricity consumption of a US residential utility customer is 10 kWh. (Which is very high, but whatever) that means that in a year it will be 3650 kWh. If we price it at 13 cents per kWh that's 475 USD per year. Or a total of 38K USD in 80 years (average lifetime of american).

A 5KW solar panel array will cost you 4.1K USD, in a good day it will produce about 25 kWh. Those will last 25 years. (they will still work after 25 years, just that their output drops about 1% each year).

A 10KWh lifepo4 battery will cost you 4.8K USD. This one will give you 10 000 charge cycles with a 65% DoD (that is about 6.5 kWh each night from the battery), 10 000 charge cycles is 27 years. In reality it might last longer because I don't think you're going to pull more than 6kWh each night out of the battery.

The reason why the battery is 10 kWh and the array produces 25 kWh is because it is an off grid system, so you need the extra to get by during cloudy days and the extra size of the battery helps with the cycle life. If you're going to be on a grid tie system you don't need the battery, and the array can be much smaller.

Giving that the average american lives about 80 years, that means that the battery and panels would have to be replace 3 times (in reality you don't really have to replace it all, those products will still work after 25 years, just that their output power and capacity wont be the same).

Either way, multiplying the total of the panels and battery (8.9K USD) by 3 gives 26.7K USD. 30% less of what you would otherwise pay on electricity with the somewhat overkill conditions I used. And of course you don't have to go and dump 8.9K USD at once, you can start with a small system that can be expanded in the future.

And I haven't touch wind power, microwind turbines are cheaper than solar panels and don't need as much battery storage. If you live in an area with average wind speeds over 8mph they are absolutely worth it.

Edit: Just in case, I know I didn't add the cost of the inverter and the solar controller, those two don't have that much of an impact in the total either way.

Worth noting that even though a grid tie system sounds better than an off grid one, it's got several issues, at large scale it isn't easy to implement because the utility company will have to deal administrating the extra production of the solar panels (which doesn't match with the peak hours of demand), also if the grid goes down you can't get power out of the panels as well. It all goes down. And finally you might end up paying back to the electric company because they usually pay you less for the kWh that you produce, as well charge you more in peak hours.

Edit2. The batteries as well can be gotten way cheaper by buying them used, there are lots of those. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L43bArxyszU

Edit3: Here are the panels and batteries that I used for my calculations.

https://www.amazon.com/Richsolar-Polycrystalline-Efficiency-Module-Marine/dp/B07DNP14JY/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=100W+rich+solar&qid=1565595960&s=gateway&sr=8-3

(50 of those for a 5KW array).

Battery: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PV5FCYX/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_pMruDb244PVQ

12.8V 100AH (1.28 kWh) 600$. (8 of those for 10 kWh). Need BMS.

I also realized of an error in the calculations and the total of the panels is way less, either way even with the mistake it was 10% cheaper than the grid.

DO NOT USE A MAGIC ERASER

Get yourself a clay bar kit, you can get them at pretty much any auto parts store. My favorite is this Meguiars one. It's designed specifically for things like this and will clearly and safely remove the contamination.

How do you propose we "force" people to climb the stairs?

[There's a whole school of thought]
(https://www.amazon.com/Nudge-Improving-Decisions-Health-Happiness/dp/014311526X) that deals with subtly steering people to make better decisions, so if you can come up with an effective and streamlined way to direct the "able-bodied" towards stairs (and more importantly, define exactly what constitutes "able-bodied"), I'm sure city transit administrators would be interested to hear it!

If you are genuinely interested this book does a pretty good job explaining it in an entertaining way. Some people are obsessed.

I use this one https://www.amazon.com/Ampulla-Cruiser-160%C2%B0Ultra-Dashboard-G-Sensor/dp/B07BBS6MGV/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539135959&sr=8-3&keywords=ampulla+dash+cam

Sometimes it comes with a 32GB SDCard, if not pick up a Samsung EVO SDCard as these tolerate outdoor conditions better.
I have this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Micro-Adapter-MB-MC32DA/dp/B00WR4IJBE/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1539138484&sr=1-10&keywords=samsung+evo+micro+sd

Files are stored in two locations on the card EVENTS and VIDEO. The EVENTS folder will contain triggered video such as excessive g-forces from a crash or if you press the lock button to save current running video segment.
The VIDEO is everything else and it loops, oldest video gets overwritten when full.

Be careful with the sensitivity settings, if you have the g-sensor set too sensitive it will overfill the EVENTS folder and will stop recording. Video in this folder is assumed to be critical and it won't overwrite them unless you format the card. This is useful in the event that a crash was so severe that you were transported to the hospital and the car was towed to an impound lot. You wouldn't want the video of the impound lot to overwrite the crash video. The sensitivity setting will depend on what type of vehicle you drive and how smooth the ride is. If it says memory is full after a few days you have it set too high. If you don't have anything important saved it is easy to reformat in the settings menu. Once the sensitivity settings are good you won't see the memory full message.

It's not the best dashcam but it is a good value. I wouldn't have considered getting one if it was more that $100. This one is almost a year old and it has so far survived an Arizona summer.

I am 6'5" and I bought this chair. It's super comfy, it breathes really well, it is tall and deep enough for me and it is sturdy. The cushion doesn't go flat like some other chairs. It's great.

You don't need it, unless you watch DVDs. Software is digitally distributed these days. There are better, and longer-term backup solutions than burnable media.

My recommendation is to completely remove the disc drive and put one of these in it's spot so you won't have any more issues. Or at the very least, disconnect all the cables so Its no longer functional

My studfinder is shit. My old boss had a seriously nice one for about $60 that had ~12 LED's that would light up in succession around a stud (mine was $15 and had a wildly inaccurate single LED).

Still, find an outlet, measure 16" from one side and start knocking. Then punch a bunch of skinny nails through in 1/4" increments wherever it feels solid. If you're gonna mount a TV in your apartment, a few tiny nailholes (especially in a row that are super easy to spackle over) aren't gonna ruin your deposit. Then pull 16" from that nailhole and there should be another stud. I've hung 6 tv's in the last 5 years, it's not rocket science.

Edit: it's actually only $50 on Amazon ProSensor 710 Franklin Sensors ProSensor 710 Precision Stud Finder Yellow https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0064EICKG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bRYxzbDXXJHSW

Same. It wasn't from dollar general, though. Paid like $8 at the grocery store. Thankfully, I was given a Houdini Lever Corkscrew as a Christmas gift soon thereafter, and I haven't looked back.

I'm sitting in one right now so I'll weigh in.

They're a bit over-priced, as you're paying for the brand. But overall once you get the back support lined up right, they're comfy as hell.

I got this one while my roommate got another that has fancier arm rests. It's wide enough that I can comfortably sit cross legged, though it lacks any sort of position customization beyond back angle and chair height.

Plus they look rad and my guests are always like "oh cool chair."

Overall, I'd recommend one, they're worth the money.

I had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my face and arm from bacon grease. You won't remember the pain very long. I will suggest you keep this on hand. I burn myself constantly in the kitchen, and the only thing better is the gel they put on you before they peel your skin off. It's cold and feels so good. And oh so cold.

I don't have a flamethrower, but I do have one of these propane flame torches for weed control.

For comparison, the big burners on a high-end domestic gas stovetop put out about 20,000 BTU/hr, the commercial ranges used in Chinese restaurants for heating woks put out 80-100,000 BTU/hr, and turkey fryer bases put out 50-180,000 BTU/hr.

The "Mr Heater" flame torch (love the name), on the other hand, puts out 500,000 BTU/hr.

Even so, it is surprisingly ineffective for melting ice and snow. In my mind, I would sort of wave it at a pile of snow and watch with satisfaction as it melted instantly, or even vaporized. In practice - nothing of the sort. You point it at some snow, and you wait .. and wait ... and wait ... and eventually it begins to melt.

So, sadly, I don't think a flamethrower is the answer.

That would be false. You can definitely put a double sided deadbolt lock on your house in the US. You may die in a fire trying to unlock it, but you definitely have the freedom to do it.

Commercial property is different, you cannot put one on anything considered a fire exit.

You can easily bypass that with a breaker bar and a larger size socket than the locking lugnut. For the socket, you just have to find a size that makes an extremely snug fit when you hammer it on.

Also, I'm pretty sure thieves that are stealing entire sets of wheels from cars already bought quicker tools to bypass them, like master lug nut key sets that can be bought from your local auto store or Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/STEELMAN-78537-16-Piece-Locking-Master/dp/B00JF5F420) to remove them.

u/gsfgf · 11 pointsr/Wellthatsucks

I have this one and it works pretty well.
