I try not to rub it into anyone’s face (even if I do send out comments with the hashtag #YourJobSucks), but it is so much fun. I’ve been at this job for three and a half years, before that eight months with another daycare, and I started the dog part of my career in 2012 as the large dog kennel manager at a private shelter.

The other day I was on Private Walks, where we go into the individual rooms to spend time with each dog who can’t go out to Group Play, and I had a puppy Pitt shove his lips into mine and his nose to mine, and then SNIFF super hard with every one of my breaths. I don’t what he was thinking, but he did that for about three minutes straight.

The lessons I try to take from being around the dogs are about living in the moment & letting things go. It’s fine to fully experience whatever emotion you’re feeling, and express it if it helps you process; but also prioritizing what matters now versus next year versus a century from now. I’ve been told it’s a little bit zen to think this way, but it helps with perspective.

If you want to read about how dogs experience life, I can’t recommend enough Alexandra Horowitz’s ‘Life Inside A Dog’. Each chapter describes a different sensory experience and how it affects them physiologically and behaviorally. I read it back when I was a zookeeper, well before I switched over to dogs, and it improved my zookeeping skills tremendously.

She reminds of Oogy! A similar story, too! If you haven't read it, it's a good book :)

You are a good person to give Gloria the love and security that she needs.

Edit: Here's the story if you don't feel like buying the book.

that’s actually a bookshelf! the first time i saw one i was very confused and even more concerned, but my friend showed me its actually a bunch of small shelves. they’re pretty neat!

I believe it is because it is round lacks any edges or seams to chew on. This looks like the one I have She likes getting a mouthfull and playing catch with it. It is the only toy she hasn't murdered to destroy the squeaker. For fun I did get her one of These which had so many squeakers she almost lost her mind. lol

I'll check those out! Thanks for the recommendations. I already have the kong for her and I'll freeze PB with some of her kibble in it, which takes her some time to get through. She has an insane amount of energy, so the others will definitely help! She also loves the Bob-A-Lot, if you're looking for something else for yours. But this one is also incredibly loud because of the hard plastic.

It's a gorilla. It has a hole in the bottom, similar to a kong toy. Great for teething pups or just heavy chewers. Mine loves his. Does look like a bum hole though.

I got this for my cat and she loves it. It isnt electrical in any way, just reflects back heat. If you set your hand on it for a few minutes you can feel it get really warm. Her cat tree is right next to the glass patio door and this made her use it a lot more

I bought one of these Ridgid 18v handheld vacs to do quick clean-ups and it works great. I just put on an extension tube and then run around sucking up the bigger fluffs. Worth every penny!

I can totally relate to your honeymoon experience... I'm on vacation in NYC right now, and keep finding little bits of her hair.

Also take a look at "Wobbler" and "UFO" .. we have all of those, only had to replace them maybe once every 18 months or so (but they get daily use) .. rotate them so he doesn't get bored. Fill this one with Peanut Butter (smear it on the inside with the back of a spoon) you can throw it in the freezer first for an hour to stiffen the spread to make it last longer of course. And actually that is a small advantage of the ones that have the two separate parts that unscrew for cleaning (unlike RFB) .. you can add something in to them that is messy (PB) and its cool cuz you can easily clean them later. The PB makes them freaking insane for w/e is in there. So you put the snacks inside and just ONE with a little dab of PB (or cheez whizz) on it and the PB actually makes the whole process of getting them out more difficult .. so its good play for them. The only down side to those top two is that they are louder than RFB cuz hard plastic. Enjoy!

I also have an all black pug who legitimately almost strangled himself on about 5 “car harnesses” for dogs. He HAD to be in either my lap or my husbands. I was very convinced there was no way to safety restrain him in the car.

However, there was a new story a few years back about a woman who was in a minor car accident and her dog escaped. She chased her all black pug (who looked a lot like mine, and yours) into the highway and both of them were struck and killed. Here is the news story. This woman and her dog lost their lives, and a driver has to live with the knowledge they struck and killed them both. I decided at that moment we needed some solution.

Here is an example of a soft dog crate that you can secure in the back seat via seat belts (you can buy seat belt clips separately). We put our pug in there for all car rides. The crate is collapsible/portable so it’s easy to move and he cannot harm himself while in there. He did/does whine a bit at the start of the trip, but it’s worth it knowing we are all safe. I would HIGHLY recommend.

My mom has a vest for her blind pup. For the most part people ask about it and how to best approach her.

I think this works better than the collar because it’s bright and large. She only wears it to crowded events and it tends to get her extra pats (after they ask).

This does a good job for my black lab

You look like youd need a medium or large

Have you tried the bowls that sits into a stand/rack/table? Like something like this so he wouldn’t be able to knock anything over?

u/BadWolf_Bae · 1 pointr/WhatsWrongWithYourDog

They have tall stands for dog bowls. I'd suggest something like this so he can't flip it. It's also supposed to help with gas.

I loved the Gentle Leader when training my Dobie. I can't upvote it enough for use to train dogs to walk with you.

Though I did get a lot of people with misconceptions that thought I had a muzzle on him.
