Nah I had the SSD already I don't want to spend money on an external hard drive when I can just use the SSD. Would this hub work well with my setup?

edit: I'm stupid lol. Didn't realise there was two USB ports in the front too. Thanks for the help

About a month ago I've got myself a Wii u, really enjoying it more than my Switch, and I decided to mod it with Hachi. But I'm having trouble finding a reasonable external hdd in my country (amazon and ebay doesn't deliver here)
And all I managed to find at our country's marketplace is basically this https://www.amazon.co.uk/BUFFALO-HD-HX1-0TU3-DriveStation-HD-HXU3-Drive/dp/B00305GY7A

Is it good, can it be used with wii u? I see the slot is different from other external hdd and couldn't find this ey cables or what which can be used with this one.

Thanks in advance.

HeyGuys,

me and a friend had a discussion if it's viable to install games on a USB Flash Drive example instead of a external HDD with an extra power supply.
Also: would "passive" external 2.5" example Hard Drive without extra power supply work?

You just have to format it manually. I explained it here about a month ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/WiiHacks/comments/4b7ty9/ive_been_told_my_64gb_sd_card_wont_work_with_a/d1qu1z2

>Basically... 32GB SD cards are never classified as SDXC, and anything above 32GB (IE SDXC) wants to be formatted as not FAT32. Since the Wii requires FAT32, they technically don't support SDXC in the sense you can't format a larger card (64, 128, etc) to FAT32 without doing it manually, so the official line is they aren't compatible even though they technically are. Same exact rule and logic applies to the 3DS, although most people find 32GB to be plenty of space on the 3DS.

>Here's the exact card I'm using in my Wii U for homebrew:

>$35, I have it 2/3 full and have no problem with Gamecube or Wii games launching off of it so long as you format it correctly w/ 3rd party software.

The brand/type of card may effect compatibility but a little internet consultation will help you find one that works (like the one I linked to).

On my Wii I've been able to run this drive without a y-cable or external power off the 0 port, do you have any idea if a similar setup with the same, or maybe similar drive, might work the same on the Wii U's vWii?

I feel like the Wii U must at least have the Wii's USB standards at a minimum for Wii games to be compatible.

I suppose this might be a case of "won't know until you try it".

I ended up buying this one.

It works ok, but I still feel that the load times are a bit longer that they should (on Pokken I notice that the load between battles is around 10~20 seconds, in LoZ Twilight Princess HD I notice the same), but it might be normal since the hack in running on memory (and thus occupying part of it). I really hope that we have the IOSU hack released soon.

Well you can buy it here (so you get the disk and all), or you could google a Wii USB loader to run an ISO of it on vWii.

I'm having a look at this SD card but I'm not sure if it's compatible with the Wii U. I've looked at forums, but there's no one or definitive answer. Some forums state that SDXC cards won't work with the Wii U.

Also, any suggestions for SD card would be appreciated (64GB).

Try finding one that doesn't have a Y cable. I have one with an external power cable and it works fine.

Would this work on a WiiU?

I want to use it with on SSD for my WiiU games, and a 500GB mechanical HDD for vWii and RetroArch, but I wonder if it will work?

u/badaboomxx · 1 pointr/WiiUHacks

I bought this one from ugreen and never have a problem with it.

u/Myxozoa · 1 pointr/WiiUHacks

Sure, here you go. I just got it a few days ago, but it's been working perfectly with no problems at all. I formatted it with the MiniAide Formatter.

u/tjacoblux · 1 pointr/WiiUHacks

I'm using a Sony SDHC Class 10 UH-1 and haven't had any issues so far. laank

What HDD do you have? Most should work though get a Y cable just in case. Mine would not work without one. Yours might not be getting enough power from 1 USB port on the Wii U. Especially if it's a 7200RPM drive.

I followed the instructions in the guide to the letter as best as I could, but I get "FSGetMountSourceFailed" when I launch the home brew channel from the website exploit.

The only thing I didn't follow exactly:
I'm on Windows 10 and didn't have a FAT32 option. So I used the utility recommended in the thread, but it didn't have a 32kb cluster size option - so I used the lowest available, which was 512kb. Is this the problem, and if so, how am I supposed to get it done with 32kb?

I am using this card.
