I work as a full stack software engineer, and primarily work from home. I also greatly enjoy gaming, so this setup is built with that in mind as well. Due to some family circumstances, the room that I had set aside for my office ended up being taken, so I had to build my office into the corner of my living room. This setup has evolved a lot over time, but I feel like I finally have it to a point where I can share it.

Some quick notes:

Wow, that's really nice looking. A bit dark for my tastes, but I like a lot of light. Your design style seems to be pretty minimalistic (at least as much as can be told from a work in progress). Personally I'd look to add a bit more greenery, and maybe break up the square lines and spaces a little, but keep within the clean theme and existing materials.

Something like this seems like it would fit in nicely, though you don't have enough light for succulents. A small pothos and peace lily might work well.

The tallest brackets I've *ever* seen, and I've worked in office/commercial furniture for nearly 8 years, in a part of the country where the vast majority of my office projects are fully sit-to-stand desk-equipped... is 4". Your requirement for being able to push in your keyboard, with the tilt you require, to pass by both the underside of the desktop and AND the under-desk cross bars AND the track of the tray itself, is quite niche. In the end, you might need to just find a keyboard tray that has the easiest tilt angle adjustment so you can easily switch back and forth so that you can more quickly switch between flat and your preferred angle. Most allow height controls on-the-fly even with one hand, but require turning a knob to set the angle, which would for sure be annoying if you had to do it every time you had to push in your keyboard. Perhaps there's something our there with an easier-to-change control.

The challenge with brackets as you've drawn them would be side-to-side wobblyness. There would have to be some significant reinforcement to prevent those from racking, even if made from fairly thick plate steel.

Even these two complex contraptions can only go 6" below the desk: 1) http://workriteergo.com/s2s-compact-system/ 2) http://workriteergo.com/leader-1/

Let's instead turn this whole thing upside-down & inside-out. If you were my client and you described your needs

Mount your monitors on a monitor arm (or two). Then you can just use your desk to control the desk height, then you'd need is a platform to tilt the keyboard (a simple one like this, turned around backwards, maybe? (if your keyboard is wired, you might have to cut a notch for it), or perhaps a fully-adjustable one like this)and when everything's at the comfortable height and angle, you move the monitors on their own arm(s) to the height you need. If you have a wireless keyboard (of which there are more and more and more great options every day), you can just move it aside when you need the clear desk space.

Quite honestly, adding a keyboard tray to a sit-to-stand is usually overkill, and in an office of 1000+ people where everyone gets a sit-to-stand, there *might* be one person who insists on a keyboard tray, and they are usually considered a trouble-maker. ;)

Yea so for longevity, I can't comment on it to a big extent, as I have only been using it for about 8 months now, but it has been holding up for me really well; however I do know people who have issues if they take it with them and the USB dongle around it can get broken. This isn't that big of an issue for me.

Also if I can last this a whole year and some change, that isn't that bad for me. I am willing to spend another 80ish dollars to pick up another because of how it has helped me out.

I know there are more expensive ergo keyboards, with mechanical switches and the works, so maybe that would be better of an investment for you?

For the mouse it really is good for me. I am actually picking up the Anker Mouse, the wired version is on sale for 11 dollars right now and is supposed to be very good also. There is also a wireless version that is 19. This may be a better thing to get. I can make a post later after using it if I enjoy it.

Here is the link. It is 11.19 if you have Amazon Prime, or 16.99 without.

It's subjective (like what you're using it for, size of your desk, etc), but personally yes. You do get more screen with the two monitor way however. If you need to extend the display (have a long desktop where you can move open windows to) and not mirror it (have a copy of the laptop you can show other people sitting across from you), then I would recommend the LG. It's pretty cheap for what it is (ultrawide with Freesync for $250 on sale), and you don't need to manage all that cable as you would with a hdmi switch - just connect the xbox to HDMI, mac (mini displayport to monitor displayport - search amazon for the cable). It has software to split the screen from multiple sources, but I've never tried it with a xbox. ON a full screen, xbox might show blackboxes on the side but IDK - never tried. I would still recommend a deskmount (single this time) to save desk space and also allow for possible vertical use of monitor - just rotate the screen.

Stock casters but have looked into these Office Chair Caster Wheels (Set of 5) - Heavy Duty & Safe for All Floors Including Hardwood - Perfect Replacement for Desk Floor Mat - Rollerblade Style w/Universal Fit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CTIG4GE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_g3JnDb2EY27T3

Like I said though, have never had a problem

u/joelamosobadiah · 1 pointr/Workspaces

Not an answer to your question exactly, but have you considered upgrading your casters instead? I'm not sure if it's truly better over multiple years at protecting your carpets over a mat, but I've LOVED having them on my office chair and can't see any visible wear on the carpets.

Did you ever find one? I've been doing a lot of research about them! I ended up going with this Vivo dual monitor one but you wouldn't be able to mount 2 28" on there, you could do the 28" and 24". You could get 2 single mounts and do the 28" monitors that way. These mounts are cheap but I'm super happy with mine and it feels solid!

I would second the sculpt. I love mine... I looked at Amazon and found mine for $54 there. ( https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Ergonomic-Keyboard-Business-5KV-00001/dp/B00CYX26BC/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=sculpt&qid=1556319141&s=gateway&sr=8-2 ).

It did not come with the mouse, but I bought the Anker Ergonomic wireless mouse which has paired well for it, and a great trial for the price.

Its the best keyboard ever made. The feel of the keys is amazing and can't be replicated by any modern keyboard. Literally, because IBM patented the design then stopped making keyboards. You'll also need a PS2 to USB adapter kinda like this: https://www.amazon.com/HENGSHENG-Adapter-Keyboard-Mouse-Converter/dp/B016BE8BGI/ref=sr_1_18?crid=2PED5VKBK5LN6&keywords=ps2+to+usb+adapter&qid=1558702408&s=gateway&sprefix=ps2+to%2Caps%2C167&sr=8-18

SunnieDog Ergonomic Office Chair Wheels Roll Just As Smooth On Day 1000 As They Did On Day 1 - Heavy Duty Protection for Hardwood & Tile Floors Without Mat - Roller Blade Style w/Universal Fit- Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CGZPOK2/

depending on the monitor arm, there is a variation where you don't need a drill, something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B21TLQU/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1504632454&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=monitor+arm+desk+mount&dpPl=1&dpID=31qDzCQi0%2BL&ref=plSrch, I'm using similar one for 27" monitor, didn't have any issues for months now, and it can be easily dismounted, without any damage to desk surface.

Dell U3818DW (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor-U3818DW/dp/B073FHWTPL?th=1). The Amazon reviews match my experience, specifically the one titled "Great for spreadsheets and coding, not great for multimedia". I'm a coder and this is great for me. Not sure what gaming performance is like.

As for having one big, ultra-wide screen vs two normal screens, no question: one big ultra-wide is better. Eliminating that gap between the screens makes a huge difference.

I found a beautiful 27" 144hz 1080p Dell monitor for only $180 + tax at time of writing

I use AmazonBasics Metal Monitor Stand - Black $16.23. I like the newfound experience of being able to store my keyboard under or just type from there occasionally too. I could easily lay/store 2-3 books under it too.

u/SparkMonkay · 2 pointsr/Workspaces

Why don't you consider using a monitor arm? Like this here. I have a similar one. You should only check if your desk is "strong" enough. (Not one of the cheap IKEA Desks)

u/impatrickt · 1 pointr/Workspaces

The LG on the left is just sitting on a little box I got at IKEA the screen on the right is attached to this: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00B21TLQU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
