Well, in that case, I definitely won't link to one I found on Amazon. :)

I was originally just googling because I couldn't remember the actual name for the grabber arm thingy, but instead of the two-claw version that I was thinking of, google gave me this single-claw version. It's perfect for this use because it has a nice solid pole to mount the ROV-R model on, and only having one moving claw should really simplify the mechanics for the eye camera shields.

Then you just need some battery-powered LEDs and a speaker playing GREMLIN noises, and you'd be set!

XCOM 2 is super intensive, and at the very least requires a dedicated graphics card to be even launchable. Apple products on the other hand are not really known as "gaming" gear; the only MacBook that has a discrete card is the 15 inch model, which will set you back a cool $2000.

Speaking from personal experience here and someone else may have a better deal, but last year I bought an Acer Aspire with an NVIDIA card that can handle XCOM 2 WOTC at a very respectable 30+fps on Linux (if you turn the resolution down and set lowest settings). At $600 it's probably as good as it gets.

If you don't mind spending a little money. I find the little keyboard remote controls to be super useful for this purpose.

I have something like this, although I have not used it for trying to play xcom from the coach.

I have one like it but it's not leather. Grab you a military style day pack (I think the one shoulder ones are rush bags, maybe that's just the brand I have though) and attach some extra pouches to the M.O.L.L.E. straps. Something like this. There are some for not as many money if super rugged isn't needed.

Maybe slightly less exciting news, but the second XCOM Novel now has a name!

XCOM: Escalation

It was previously "Unnamed Novel Title" or something like that.

Edit: Nevermind, it was already mentioned a few days ago and I only just now I've found out.

Xcom Resurrection, "Bridging the narrative between EW and X2". Breaks the lore at points like how shield bearers are deployed before they're canonically rolled out... but it's good if you overlook them. https://www.amazon.com/XCOM-2-Resurrection-Greg-Keyes/dp/1608877124

There's a sequel, Escalation. Haven't read it yet but it looks good.

Johnny Lumpkin seems to be quite happy writing books for a living. He makes LW for fun!

A 940M for $500 is solid value for money. I recon you'll be fine if you don't mind turning a few bells and whistles off or dropping the resolution to 720.

If you can splurge for it though (or find it on sale / refurbished) the inspiron 15 7000 would be a pretty decent upgrade at $800: amazon link

Fantastic; looks like Slingshot DLC is also on sale for $1.74; grabbing that, since it's the only thing I don't yet have!

Laser Squad. If you're into playing old games, this is the game that started it all. There's also Laser Squad Nemesis, made in 2002.

Silent Storm and its sequel. WWII setting with a sci-fi twist. This is my favorite out of this list.

The Jagged Alliance series, of which Jagged Alliance - Back In Action is the latest. I've heard a lot of people didn't like the new one, but the older ones are on GOG.

Xenonauts (X-Com clone)

UFO: Alien Invasion (free X-Com clone)

UFO: Aftermath and its sequels. Most people didn't like this series. I've only played the first one, and it was ok imo.

In spades, especially right now; you can get the Complete Edition (the expansion and all DLC) for under $9 on Amazon right now.

If you enjoy turn-based tactical games, permanent death, and shooting aliens, you'll dig it. There are a lot of Let's Plays on YouTube, so you can try and get the flavor before you buy. But I love it.

It's covered in the book. If you're like me, and don't care to read it, you can listen to this guy read/summarize it.

But the quick summary is that the game effectively picks up right after the resistance gets the ship in working order.

Here is an unaffiliated link if you're interested.
$10 on Xbox One from amazon, standard edition.

u/phlap · 1 pointr/Xcom

It's pretty cheap on Amazon at the minute.

There's this official novel for XCOM 2 which is enjoyable given the appropriate level of expectations. It's official prequel for the game.

Edit:

Xcom 2 tosses out most events from previous games in more ways than one. But to get the most of the book and the game, you'll want to brush up on the main characters from XCOM EU: Shen, Bradford, Vahlen, and Van Doorn.

I believe this patch is from the Special Edition: https://www.amazon.com/XCOM-Enemy-Special-Artbook-Poster-Soundtrack/dp/B006WQR3OM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520313384&sr=8-1&keywords=xcom%2Benemy%2Bunknown%2Bspecial%2Bedition&th=1

That's where I got mine, anyway. I'm sure people make/sell them elsewhere on the internet, but I could never find any.

u/LBraden · 19 pointsr/Xcom

The XCOM 2 tie-in novel, that explains what happens between the games, and gives us a rough time when XCOM failed.

Also, Dr Vahlen had a hidden base in an active volcano before she "disappeared completely" so, a mad German scientist with a secret base in an active volcano ...

Buy either this $260 card or this $330 card and you'll notice a huge difference, OP.
