What have you tried?

What have you liked?

What have you not liked?

Get yourself a little notebook and keep track of what you drink and how you feel about it. These are already set up for wine, whiskey, and beer respectively, but you could also just get a little pocket reporter's notebook and DIY it.

Whenever you're out at bars and restaurants, try something new; provided you're not there at peak hours and the bartender has time to chat, ask for recommendations ("I really like X, what else do you have that's like that?"). If you prefer to imbibe at home, most liquor stores these days let you put together your own six-pack of beer, and nearly all of them will have those little ~2 oz sample bottles of spirits and liqueurs.

There's an awesome book at Amazon called the Alaska Bootlegger's Bible.

Detailed and thorough. I recommend it... Just for the intellectual curiosity of course. I would never distill liquor at home.

If you're actually going to have it in your hip the curve fits nicely and I can't imagine that flat one fitting well. If you're not going to keep it on your hip I don't think the shape matters much. Side note, I just bought this one a couple days ago and love it

Those are a very good price, and they look pretty good...my only concern is that the base seems both a little lighter and a little narrower than the pricier Glencairns. But they have great reviews, so I'd probably go for it if I needed any!

I also like whisky tots (sometimes called whisky bowl glasses or Canadian whisky glasses), like these, but it's harder to find bargains on these (which is why I didn't even mention them at first): http://www.amazon.com/Glencairn-Crystal-Canadian-Whisky-Glass/dp/B005LSA4GQ

Holy shit, 2k?? I was just browsing Google shopping results and there are some beautiful examples for less than a grand...

This looked particularly awesome... $423 for marble-top counter, super classy.

No problem at all. Get him some [Glencairn glasses] (http://www.amazon.com/Glencairn-Whisky-Glass-Set-Gift/dp/B00L9LX3K8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1456937611&sr=8-4&keywords=glencairn), IMHO totally the best glass to drink/taste whisky (or indeed, pretty much any spirit) from. If you really want to splurge, they are available in [cut crystal] (http://www.amazon.com/Glencairn-Crystal-Whisky-Tasting-Glass/dp/B016YHJOBI/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1456937358&sr=8-6&keywords=glencairn+cut+crystal) as well, but the regular ones are more than fine - I actually prefer them, the lip is thinner. You can also get them custom engraved from numerous sources online.

Just make sure to get the official/real ones - lots of copies out there, most of which aren't as nice. There is also a larger "Canadian glencairn," which is appropriate if he prefers to use any ice.

I like these flasks from izola: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0078RPD9G/

Good quality, don't leak. They come in 5 oz and 3 oz sizes.

u/SOLUNAR · 3 pointsr/alcohol

of course! but i think /u/drumsetgod beat me to it :D

you can google for them as alcohol stoppers, there are different types and even different sizes for the liquid!

https://www.amazon.com/Wyndham-House-4-Bottle-Liquor-Dispenser/dp/B00BI02YEQ/ref=pd_sbs_79_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00BI02YEQ&pd_rd_r=XX4GFTNZYWT8DCEWHNS8&pd_rd_w=s9bbg&pd_rd_wg=XCEC0&psc=1&refRID=XX4GFTNZYWT8DCEWHNS8

You can even buy these and take out the parts you need :)

Usually, yeah. A good middle ground if you don't want that price point are the dark morello cherries from Aldi's.

A reasonably-priced set of reusable cocktail picks can also up your presentation game and also let you get around putting in effort to fish your garnish out of the glass yourself.

u/dabombnl · 2 pointsr/alcohol

Yes. I have these. They work very well. Rather than freezing a cylinder and then form it to a sphere, you can just freeze it to a sphere to being with.

check some of these whisky accessories out:

whisky stones

Balls of Steel

I've has both and the whisky stones are meh because they don't stay chilled as long as the balls.

They both look cool in your drink.

OR get him a framed picture of Ron Swanson lol

Get the ingredients for a Singapore Sling and make one of those at home. Also get yourself a small 5-piece bar set like https://www.amazon.com/CucinaPrime-Stainless-Steel-Bar-Piece/dp/B016MLH8RI/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=boston+shaker&qid=1563251909&s=gateway&sr=8-7 - really cheap and will let you mix your own cocktails.
