So I was just recently handed a situation - Amazon shipped me a LG 65inch OLED C8 TV (most likely 2018 model) instead of a 2018 Sony Bravia X830F LED TV.

I did some preliminary research and found that OLED is of course a premium to LED TVs, so essentially as a consumer, if you want to say, "match" the performance of a OLED television from a LED perspective, one must "scale up" in certain areas/features.

Due to the very limited online resources comparing the two televisions (because you are essentially comparing oranges to apples) I have now turned to the Reddit community for guidance and what your thoughts on this matter would be. In your own calculated mind, would you advise me to keep the LG television, or accept the return and exchange for the original Sony 70inch TV.

For convenience purposes see below for the stats/features related to each television. The LG description was pulled from Best Buy page and the Sony from Amazon page:

I agree with you on all counts. I call these "Incentivized" reviews.

In Amazon's TOS, it says you're allowed to get a product for free or at a discount in exchange for a review, but only if you disclose the relationship. While the "disclaimer" always claims it's an honest and unbiased review, the data shows otherwise. After examining nearly 5,000,000 reviews, here's what we're seeing in the data:

Reviews that contain a "free/discount" disclaimer (Incentivized): 4.74 Average Rating

Reviews that do NOT contain a disclaimer (Non-Incentivized): 4.38 Average Rating

Furthermore, the distribution of ratings looks pretty bad:

Non-Incentivized

1-Star: 4.8%

2-Star: 3.7%

3-Star: 7.4%

4-Star: 16.9%

5-Star: 67.2%

Incentivized

1-Star: 0.4%

2-Star: 0.8%

3-Star: 3.1%

4-Star: 16.0%

5-Star: 79.6%

So people who receive free products are 10x LESS likely to give a 1-star review. Yikes.

You may be thinking that the incentivized reviews are higher because only brands that believe in their products will send them off to users for review, and that's not what we're seeing. Time and time again, we see that the reviews for the exact same product are higher when the reviewer got the item for free. Check the "Incentivized Reviews" section of these example reports:

http://reviewmeta.com/amazon/B01AD2IJL6 (5.0 from Incentivized, 4.1 from Non-Incentivized)

http://reviewmeta.com/amazon/B00RH5I8U0 (4.7 from Incentivized, 4.3 from Non-Incentivized)

http://reviewmeta.com/amazon/B00H4IBD0M (4.5 from Incentivized, 4.2 from Non-Incentivized)

Here's what we're also seeing in the data - the emergence of power reviewers who have 1000's of incentivized reviews who pretty much ONLY give 5-star ratings. This is because the 3rd party companies who facilitate the exchange of products for reviews allow the brands to vet the reviewers before sending the product out. Obviously they want to only send the product out to reviewers who only give 5 star reviews. So if you give too many critical reviews, you're cut off from your supply of free or discounted junk.

Anyway, I could write a book on why these reviews are totally biased (which of course I'd sell on amazon and give away a bunch of copies for free or at a discount in exchange for reviews). But here's a bit more on the incentivized reviews test: http://reviewmeta.com/blog/incentivized-reviews/

Depends on the price range your looking for and what type of machine; high-end intense graphics, mid-range for just playing MMO's or MoBA's or low-end for mainly movies, music, email and office duties.

Mid-range you usually can find quite a bit of decent options. High-end is were you REALLY need to watch the specs for each "Sale" cause they often like to short something essential in order to offer such a good "deal". For example, they amount of memory, for High-end you really need at least 16 gigs to have a solid build but a lot of "Deals" will leave you with ONLY 8 gigs installed and thus cutting the price that way and calling it a "Deal".

Here's a High-end Deal that looks real nice: https://smile.amazon.com/iBUYPOWER-Trace-9220-Overclockable-Motherboard/dp/B07G77QHV8/ref=sr_1_2?s=black-friday&psr=EY17&ie=UTF8&qid=1542973523&sr=1-2&keywords=desktop+computers

and.. Here's a Mid-range Deal that's pretty good too! - https://smile.amazon.com/CYBERPOWERPC-Xtreme-GXiVR8060A5-i5-8400-GeForce/dp/B0757DVF4Z/ref=sr_1_1?s=black-friday&psr=EY17&ie=UTF8&qid=1542973523&sr=1-1&keywords=desktop+computers

Hope this helps and happy hunting!

u/Erinescence · 2 pointsr/amazon

There will be an absolute ton of cheap headphones, earbuds and Bluetooth speakers. Like /u/keanex said, check out what you want beforehand, figure out what's actually a good deal on them, and then only look for the ones you've previously identified as good quality and a good sale.

Anker and TaoTronics are two pretty solid brands that are very likely to participate in Prime Day. Last year I got the Anker Soundcore for $27.99 which was an all-time low for it at the time. I asked Anker on Twitter if the new version, the Anker Soundcore 2 would be getting a Prime Day deal and they hinted that it will. Previous best price for that was around $33 I think. I LOVE my Soundcore, so am watching for the Soundcore 2 (which is waterproof) for my bathroom this year.

Im not from the US so hope you won't blame me for my ignorance, but I'm willing to buy a lenovo 730 , but the prices at amazon are very confusing .

how come a 12 gig ram ddr4 and 8 gig ram ddr4 (same specs for the rest ) has a 50$ difference in favor for the 12 gigs, how can it be cheaper then the 8 gig???

secondly the 1 star reviews are very intimidating https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Touch-Screen-i5-8250U-Thunderbolt-Fingerprint/dp/B07CKVLP4V/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=lenovo+yoga+730&qid=1573510690&sr=8-3 for example...

how can I be sure amazon is the best site to order this laptop from.

based on your past experience of ordering from amazon a laptop (not necessarily lenovo) would you recommend me? or should i order it from somewhere safer ?

u/xYike · 1 pointr/amazon

Yea, that sucks. Which I assume why the item I ordered said "Note: Signature required upon delivery due to high value of this item" and that I felt safe in ordering. Well I did not sign for it and even if I did sign for what was shipped, it was the wrong weight, wrong number of packages, etc. It is pretty clear something is horribly wrong here but Amazon has already closed the door on my case, multiple times. Even with an Amazon insider (for lack of better term) trying to help me.

I will take the 3rd party seller and possibly Amazon to small claims court, if it comes to that. The attorney will probably cost close to that, so it would be smart for them to just pressure the 3rd party seller into doing to right thing.

I have a friend who lives in Korea and I would like to buy her a gift from Amazon without notifying her as a surprise. I have her address and I have selected the item I would like to buy from Amazon. Is there a way for me to select the item to be shipped to her directly? I am confused as I have never had something shipped to anywhere except the US.

For those curious, this is the item. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JH8T3S/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Yesterday I got a surprise email about one of my pre orders for an upcoming game that is to come out next year. Here is the baseline of what the email stated:

>Hello,
Due to a lack of availability, we will not be able to obtain the following item(s) from your order:
  "Dying Light 2 - PlayStation 4"
We've canceled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience. If you see a charge for the canceled item, we will refund you within 1-2 business days.

If you are still interested in purchasing this item, it may be available from other sellers.  Please visit the detail page for this item below:

>Link was here
If you took advantage of a promotional offer when placing this order, this cancellation may affect your order's eligibility for that offer. If this is the case, please contact customer service:

So my question is has anyone else had their pre orders cancelled for this reason? Even thou the game is not out yet? It wasn't delayed from what I am seeing online. Along with that you can't even pre order the digital version any longer.

To find out a bit more about this issue I went in and contacted the live support group on amazon to see if maybe this was a mistake. From what they state this is not and it is due to the product not being delivered on time? Not sure how since a release date has yet to be pushed out from what I have read and it is a pre order. So amazon should not have an issue with this sort of thing.

This brings me to the other part of the email at the bottom.

>If you took advantage of a promotional offer when placing this order, this cancellation may affect your order's eligibility for that offer. If this is the case, please contact customer service:

It states here that if the order used a promotion when ordered it would be effected. I pre ordered the game before they removed the 10% discount on pre orders received for being a prime member. Is this some sort of bs way to get people out of the discounts they were able to get before and had locked in before it was taken out?

Hopefully some light is shed on this as I am starting to think something is up. In no way should a pre order for anything be cancelled unless the product is no longer going to be available. Which clearly this is not the case, and all other stores have it for pre order still. Is this a sign to take my business else where?

i have some questions regarding amazon prime membership tnx

  1. i'm thinking of subscribing for the amazon prime membership to watch some anime series. as i was browsing for the animes that are available to watch i noticed some series like https://www.amazon.com/Asta-and-Yuno/dp/B07FSFNJV1/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=black+clover&qid=1555859056&s=instant-video&sr=1-1 doesn't have the "Watch with prime membership" does that mean that i wont be be able to watch that series even if i subscribe to the amazon prime membership? if so where can i browse the titles that i could watch when i buy the prime membership?
  2. can i get the prime membership even outside of US? i live in the philippines
  3. does amazon prime accept prepaid american express cards? coz i dont have any bank account(still a student)
u/Remioli · 1 pointr/amazon

Amazon support cannot even find the Prime books you have.

There are free eBooks you can read on Amazon Prime. Lots of them graphic novels. Example below

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AAJR0GI/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title

You "buy" them and can read them on your browser. But you cannot access them. They are in a totally separate library.

Actually after acquiring the book, it literally gives you a link to access it. And it sends you to a place you can MANAGE your books (delete, gift them) but not read them.

You have to go to Prime reading, and click on the tiny link that says "my library"

I was on the phone with Amazon support and he was unable to find it. I had to tell him where the link is.

u/ashwinr136 · 1 pointr/amazon

I see now that the seller is called Amazon Global Store UK. When I clicked "ask a question" it directed me to an Amazon customer support page and a list of my recent orders. I didn't see a way to ask a question about that specific product. Here is the link of the product I'm interested in if that helps - I just want to know if the sizes listed are in UK or US sizes

u/Norachiyo96 · 1 pointr/amazon

Hi guys, I'm working on Amazon Mechanical Turker just to gain a few bucks. I live outside US, so I can only be payed through Amazon.com gift card. Living in Italy, shipment would cost a lot, so I was thinking of using these money to buy Digital goods. Specifically I want to buy Nintendo eShop credit for my Nintendo Switch. The only problem is that it says it is "Currently Unavailable", which is a little strange for a digital good. Is it because I'm not from US?

Here it is the link so you can check out the item for me https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-eShop-Gift-Card-Digital/dp/B01LYOCVZF/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=nintendo%2Bswitch%2Beshop%2Bcard&qid=1562247623&s=gateway&sr=8-1&th=1

If it really is because I'm not from US, there's a way to buy this item without the risk of getting banned?

u/d70 · 19 pointsr/amazon

I had a different experience. I bought almost 10 things yesterday, camel-ed every single one and they were at the lowest or 2nd lowest price point. I guess it depends on what you were looking to buy.

EDIT: I'm a big believer that you should see both sides of the story. Here is the evidence for my experience.

Fire Tablet, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 16 GB - Includes Special Offers, Black

It's friggin' awesome this thing... I tried it out on an area that had already been vacuumed - and it pulled up stuff the vacuum had left behind. Definitely requires "raking" action than "push broom" action.

Hello,

I have just a quick question about Amazon eGift Card: if I send Amazon eGift Card to somebody (with the delivery by email), does he or she know my name, my email and/or other private information about me (which are part of my Amazon account, but which I do not indicate on eGift Card) OR does he or she only know what I indicate on eGift Card, e.g. name or message.

This is the web page of Amazon eGift Card that I am referring to https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Amazon-com-eGift-Cards/dp/BT00DC6QU4

Thank you.
