I'm usually fairly impressed by the creativity that people on this sub put into their collections, so I thought I'd share mine in the hopes that it might inspire some other people!
My wife and I decided to merge our collections and put them somewhere in the living room as a display piece. We decided on the bookshelf next to the entertainment center, but it was a bit dark. To fix this, I grabbed a set of LED tracklights from Amazon, a handy dremel (probably optional) and sunk them into the underside of the top to create some lighting on the cheap. The set I used cost about $25 and can be found here.
These are plugged into a switch-controlled outlet, which makes it easy to turn the amiibo display on and off - but it was starting to get a bit crowded as we picked up our favorites from Wave 3. A random stop into Home Goods later and we walked out with this plastic spice rack that we were pretty sure would hold your average amiibo. As it turned out, it fit them all perfectly – from Roi DaDiDou to the WFT – and the metallic-y coating on the bottom gives the LEDs a cool ambient light effect when they shine down.
The rack we picked up was the InterDesign Twillo Stadium... although I kinda wish we saw the flat Twillo Stadium Spice Rack since it’d be more scalable as our collection grows ;-)
Anyway, that's about it. If you have any other questions about how we pulled it together, just post 'em here.
Normally I'd recommend something like a camera case for amiibo on a flight, but if you're short on time, it may not be possible to purchase any sort of case.
Fortunately, you said you only have three amiibo and kept the boxes, so that makes things easier. I'd recommend stashing them in the plastic bubble and tray that they came in. The plastic is meant to hold and protect the amiibo while shipping to stores, so it stands to reason that they should work for transporting on a flight.
Tape the plastic peices to each other as well as you can so that they don't separate. Stash them with your clothing as that will provide cushioning, and it's quicker/easier than trying to get lots of foam. Make sure the amiibo are covered by clothing on all sides, including their top and bottom. As long as you pack them tightly enough that they don't jiggle around in your luggage, they should be okay and flight ready.
(Also, the plural of amiibo is amiibo)
Here is a checklist to track your amiibo collection: http://amiibochecklist.com/ (most popular) or https://www.scribd.com/mobile/document/341048988/iJustine-s-Amiibo-Checklist-2017
Buy NEW amiibo from: TRU is the best retailer with a diverse group of amiibos. Other than that: Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Game stop and Nintendo store. To get more rare amiibos, Beat the Bomb is an Australian retailer that ships to the US. The Australian dollar is worth less than US dollars so when you convert the prices, it is competitive. There is also NinNin but that one is more expensive and shipping is high.
Buy resale/used amiibo: Craigslist. Other places similar to Craigslist: Facebook marketplace, OfferUp, and Let Go. People have also reported being successful on Amazon Warehouse.
Use r/amiiboswap to view and exchange amiibos.

If you’re looking for ideas on how to display amiibos: Bat cases at Michael’s are pretty popular https://www.michaels.com/studio-decor-baseball-bat-display-case/10174362.html. Three tier rack on Amazon (I just use a spice rack from Bed Bath and Beyond) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036OQU56/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_5we8ybSAV243Z. Or a picture ledge at IKEA http://www.ikea.com/us/en/search/?query=MOSSLANDA+Picture+ledge
I like these clear acrylic stands, the 12-inch version is a good size for all but the largest amiibo, which I just put on the top shelf. I purchased some from a more expensive brand, but later found these ones that seem to be pretty much identical: https://www.amazon.com/9-Inch-6-25-Inch-Acrylic-Combination-Life/dp/B014PXHVXQ/?th=1
They'd look good on any shelf IMO, but as the reviews state, they're a perfect complement for Ikea detolf or similar standing glass display cases and fill out the available vertical space in there amazingly well.
Sure. I just checked France and Germany, both of which would've been the easiest, and both have sold out in the past two days apparently. The last viable option would be preordering Rosalina from Amazon Japan. It's bit more of a hassle, but I believe it's cheaper than the European options that are sold out anyway. I suggest using Chrome to browse the site, so you can translate the language easily. You might have to use an importing company like Tenso to bring her to you, depending on where you live. Good luck! And feel free to ask more questions :).
The IKEA Detolf cabinet is really nice. Looks fantastic, and is very affordable, I believe its 60 bucks. Ive seen so also other collectors on this sub also use the detolf cabinet, and everyone ive talked to about it loves it as well. I also use some typical acrylic risers from Amazon. Makes it so each shelf can hold around 36 amiibo (4 shelves, 144 amiibo total).
Shelf:
https://m2.ikea.com/us/en/p/detolf-glass-door-cabinet-black-brown-10119206/
Risers:
NIUBEE 2 Pack Acrylic Riser Display Shelf for Amiibo Funko POP Figures, Cupcakes Stand for Table,Cabinet, Countertops - 3-Tier, Clear (12×8.75) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07559P21F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_f8Q6CbWW5Q03Q
For the risers definitely get the 12 by 8.75.
I hope this helps! :)
I actually had cases like these when I started getting into anime in high school for trading and capsule figures. I will say they are nice but they start to show their age pretty quickly if you are constantly getting in and out of them. They can attract fingerprints like crazy, and will get fine scratches like a cd/dvd on the clear plastic. Personal opinion, I would go with this simple 8 dollar spice rack.

While I don't have a white shelf, I use two of these shelves in black. I don't really have a good picture of the whole thing, but here's the top two shelves with all of my amiibo on it. For reference, there are three more available shelves the same size below this picture.
If it's too much space for you, may I suggest the smaller stands I have in my picture in conjunction with your current one? Here's a link to the Amazon listing for those if you're interested, but I'd measure out your current shelf to make sure they fit.
I'd suggest searching within this subreddit for the word 'shelf' or 'stand'. You'll find a lot of people will have answered your question already. :)
Ahh yeah, that'd be the difference. If you look on Ike's page:
http://www.amazon.de/Nintendo-1068766-amiibo-Smash-Figur/dp/B00Q6A571A/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1422510751&sr=8-7&keywords=amiibo
It says "In Stock.
Ships from and sold by Amazon . Gift-wrap available.
Delivery in the United States until Monday, February 2 : if you order in the next 8 Stunden und 36 Minuten and choose Amazon Global Express delivery at checkout."
So that can make it to you. But if you check Marth's page:
http://www.amazon.de/Nintendo-1067566-amiibo-Smash-Marth/dp/B00N8PC142/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1422510343&sr=8-3&keywords=amiibo
It says "Only 20 in stock
Ships from and sold by conrad_electronic ."
A good indication is usually the little prime symbol. If they have that, it usually means amazon themselves is fulfilling the order.
So unfortunately, for your list Captain Falcon and Marth are being sold by third parties, and Shulk isn't available at all yet. You ~could~ get an Ike, and I think it'd cost you about $30.
Another good option for Marth might be amazon.jp? But I'm not familiar with that site, and you do need to somehow secure a shipping option to ship internationally from them, even though that stock of Marths is from amazon.
Well, you essentially have four options:
OR
If you don't have to have it right now, just wait for LoZ:BotW to come out and if Nintendo doesn't release it separately then just buy TP:HD (which you can expect large sales on Wii U games because the NX just came out) and sell it to GameStop for whatever crappy price they give you then.
If you do "have" to have it now, then I would recommend #3, especially if you are a Pro member at GameStop.
Edit: Formatting sucks on mobile. Hope it helps!
Co-owner of the collection here (my boyfriend and I are both into it), have mostly lurked on this sub since December with the occasional post. Some answers to the comments:
-The clear stands are the Azar 12-Inch Three-Tier Acrylic Step Display -> Link
-Bf painted the Yoshi blue, he has an original green Yoshi as well (his favorite character, I'm a Luigi kind of guy).
-I love how we have one of the most derp Diddys I've ever seen.
Also, here's what the entire wall looks like -> Imgur
Because the binder is small, flimsy, cards easily slide out, pages tear easily, and the cards aren't very well protected. I would only recommend it to people that are super careful with their stuff, don't transport it much, and plan on using it purely to collect in a safe environment. Visually it looks good, and it technically does the job fine, but I wouldn't trust it to protect a expensive collection.
High durability Binder for $6: http://www.amazon.com/Wilson-Jones-Durable-Customizable-W86660/dp/B00CPXDSGS
9-Pocket Pages (50~100 count) cost anywhere from $6~$20 depending on the brand, count, quality, and style you go for. I personally recommend getting Ultra Pro side-loading pages with 9 slots on each side (18 slots per page): http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-3-Hole-Side-Load-Pocket/dp/B009WU5EG4/
The Detolf is great but not very suited for displaying small figures like Amiibos.
However these help them display much better.
I echo the other user who said any start is a good start.
As for storing/displaying them, a lot of people with OOB collections buy the baseball bat display from Michael's, which mounts to the wall and can hold about 12 amiibo. They are pricey, but Michael's often has coupons (like BOGO deals) to bring down the price.
Others buy the DETOLF display case from IKEA and have tiered risers (like these Azar ones) to help comfortably fit more amiibo on each shelf. I plan on doing this, but I'm looking for a display case about twice as wide as the DETOLF. I have enough floor space to spare.
Or you can get cheaper risers (Walmart sells a bamboo spice rack that works great) and put that on any spare shelf you have at home.
If you're planning on getting every single amiibo and have the space, I really recommend just getting this, as its a lot cheaper than buying those cases:
http://www.ikea.com/ca/catalog/products/10119206/
Can fit the entire series. Recommend buying stands to display the amiibos better, like a couple of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083R3DHO/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p79_d5_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=07YHC2C5JCDV0PAQ11R6&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop
Also not DIY, but I think these are great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07559P21F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can fit 4 rows of 5 per shelf.
Awesome collection! I think these acrylic shelves would make it look even better!
9-Inch W by 6.25-Inch D Amiibo Display Shelf 3 Step Acrylic Riser Clear by Combination of Life https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PXHS98/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_H1Q4sIZBOum33
I've been using this to display my loose figures on my tv stand:
http://www.amazon.com/Copco-2555-0188-Non-Skid-Cabinet-Organizer/dp/B0036OQU56
It fits 18 perfectly, which is enough for waves 1 and 2 completely. Not sure what I'm gonna do when wave 3 hits, but it was 7 bucks or so at bed bath and beyond, and I think it looks pretty good for a low cost solution:
http://i.imgur.com/B7qzf4p.jpg
It looks so small though! I think the overall small size would bother me. I have a bookshelf in my room - I don't use it for Amiibo though, since I have Michaels baseball bat cases - but it's normal size one that I feel looks a lot better. This is mine here. Could most likely use those clear stands like this or something too.
I got these tiered stands that work really well and fit nicely in the IKEA Detolf display case (which I plan on buying soon now that IKEA just opened in my city).
You can find them on Staples here
Or Amazon here
The price fluctuates a lot on both sites, so just check for whichever is less ... just remember that Staples sells them in a 4 pack and Amazon sells them individually.
This should comfortably hold 18-20 Amiibo but you can buy multiple. I have the 15-inch and the 10-inch right next to each other. Reinforce the small gaps with poster board, then use like half a yard of red fabric to really make it nice.
Monster Hunter Amiibo
Box Boy Amiibo
Box Boy Game and Amiibo Box Set
All these ship to the U.S.A. Best bet is to use fulfilled by Amazon or a seller with feedback of at LEAST 100.
Sure! They're pretty damn cheap and also look pretty good even without any work done on them. Find them here.
You can find them on Amazon for $8 a piece at the following link: https://www.amazon.com/Copco-2555-0188-Non-Skid-Cabinet-Organizer/dp/B0036OQU56.
I've bought quite a few for my collection and absolutely love them. In my opinion, these are a very cost-effective way to display large collections given that each display holds 18 amiibo comfortably.
Former SDE intern here...
Not sure which team you work on but there is an Parent/Child ASIN mismatch for Toon Link as of today.
Parent Amiibo ASIN is: B00N49RAXO
Toon Link ASIN that is under that parent which is incorrect: B00PIEI0PU
Toon Link ASIN that is under that parent but does not get reported to the Product Advertisment API and is the correct one is: B00PG6Z9VI
When you check the Product Advertisement API for Offers under the parent ASIN, you get all expected Amiibo except for Toon Link, that one you receive B00PIEI0PU but instead the one that should be returning is
B00PG6Z9VI.
Not sure if you can file it with the retail team or whichever might be able to correct it.
Thanks :)
Dude, from personal experience Get a few of these they fit great in these cases!
Not DIY but I use these and love them. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019SBJDXQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Amiibo-Aori-Fire-Fly/dp/B01G6LXXWI
Amazon has them for only $5 more than retail which is pretty good considering they released awhile back
Base shelf is this. Everything else is heavy customization.
I also just found this right now if you want to go bigger.
Amiibo are roughly 2/3 the height of a CD case, so any shelving designed for holding CDs usually holds amiibo pretty good.
Here you go:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036OQU56/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Two of these fit perfectly across my Ikea bookshelf.
Thanks! You have a nice display yourself.
I got the steps from amazon.

Here's a 4-pack listing.
http://www.amazon.com/Azar-Displays-326043-Three-Tier-Acrylic/dp/B011DYFXVW/ref=dp_ob_title_hi
Yeah, same here. I'm just using a cheap cabinet organizer as a stand until I have a better idea of what the final roster and Smash amiibo set looks like.
Lucky Amazon sale! Here is the link if you're interested
Rosalina, being a unicorn, is quite hard to come by, as you know. All I can really do is link you to this Amazon listing where it's a not-that-great but decent at best $35.
http://www.amazon.com/amiibo-Rosetta-Chiko-Rosalina-Luna/dp/B00PIEHUDS/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1427513853&sr=1-1&keywords=rosalina+amiibo
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019SBJDXQ/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got it from Amazon XD

It's like 39 dollars in US dollars but it's still available to grab him there! :3
I hope this helps!
I probably wasn't gonna use Amazon.jp, just listings like this or this with Prime shipping to get the ones I want at just a slight markup (or in the latter case, a slight discount compared to MSRP). Thanks for showing me amiami!
I believe this is the one I have... but I would measure your display just in case it's not. It should fit really well on the shelf.
12-Inch W by 8.5-Inch D 3 Step Acrylic Riser Clear by Combination of Life https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PXHVXQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Pi8tzbKX3DS83
I just paid $16.95 for each, which is cheaper than it was when I bought one a little over a year ago (at $18.95, but only fulfilled by Amazon sold by someone else) though more expensive than when I bought the first 2 two years ago at (at $13.30 both sold directly by Amazon).
The same company that makes these things makes a slightly larger and taller version for around $25 (12-Inch W x 8.5-Inch D x 8.75-Inch H. Each step measures 2.75-Inch D.) or you can buy a 4 pack of the larger ones
The Japanese box boy bundle is on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5C7PMP
MSRP in Japan was roughly $30 so $50 including prime shipping seems fair if you're interested in the whole bundle.
If you want it bad enough and your brother is an out of box collector, you can get an import for as cheap as ~$16 which is plenty reasonable for a rare amiibo.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PIEHU74/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_CnGBwbTSC4FJF
Amiibo aren't region locked so it shouldn't matter that it's Japanese if he's gonna open it and use it. If it has to have the US box however then he's hard to find cheaper than $35.
Good luck in your search and Merry Christmas.
Thank you! I use these. Definitely beats lining them up behind one another.
Copco 2555-0188 Non-Skid 3-Tier Spice Pantry Kitchen Cabinet Organizer, 15-Inch, White/Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036OQU56/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MEI3BbPB2GVWV

Smash Toon Link doesn't seem to be available from Amazon JP itself and only 3rd party seller. I don't think third party sellers ship globally.

17 bucks. Save the time and worrying and get it before Christmas. Waiting for that pre-order to be honored does not seem worth it
If your after Rosalina, I decided to check prices on amazon and ebay. The cheapest I found was a 21$ japanese import on amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00PIEHUDS/ref=sr_1_3_twi_gam_1_olp?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1466731781&sr=1-3&keywords=rosalina+amiibo
Hope this helps. There is also the SMB rosalina amiibo coming out in a few months.
I use this on my shelf. Works great.
I would check out these risers. I use them to display figures a little smaller then amiibo and they look great.
Well it was when I bought one last year. Looks like Amazon may not be selling it right now. Sorry. It's called Sauder Multimedia Storage tower though. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RRH23W/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_Djpvzb07AM8TZ
Dedede is on Amazon for $25 free two day shipping. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PIEHU74/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_aEIfvb175EY2V
Ganon, Zelda, and Sheik are up on Amazon Japan now. They are region free. They ship out Friday.

Azar Acrylic Step Display, 4-pack on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011DYFXVW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Maybe a little pricey but I think they're worth it when paired with the detolf.
Have a look here. These are Japanese, but they are identical to the US versions (except for the Japanese Packaging)
It looks like the lowest price one is 35$ with shipping, so a bit over your price, but I'd give it a look :)
Copco 2555-0188 Non-Skid 3-Tier Cabinet Organizer, 15-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036OQU56/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_woZqybMRJVSZZ
(Not sure why there's a referral in the link, I copied it from my order history)
You can fit a ten inch and fifteen inch next to eachother in each shelf. Gives you looooooots of room.
The tiered ones are these. They're perfect for amiibo. The only downside is they're only the 3 rows, so I ordered the small ones to make a couple more rows.
The small ones are these. They're great, but I had to order a bunch of them, so just realize that.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0036OQU56/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1421054678&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX200_QL40
This is perfect for all of wave 1 and 2
Here is Japanese King DeDeDe for you. I can confirm that I ordered on Thursday last week and it was at my doorstep Saturday night. Amiibo box was in perfect condition.
We have no idea. For reference, Villager took almost a full year to restock in America, and Wii Fit Trainer still hasn't seen a proper restock (in America at least, but importing her is relatively the same price as buying MSRP in America). Watch the Japanese imports on Amazon if you don't care about it being Japanese. There's literally no difference in the figure, just the box, but the prices are almost always better to import. Right now it's not so good, but Nintendo of Japan is better and quicker with restocks than Nintendo of America is.
Thanks. I'm thinking of getting another shelf. I got it on Amazon for $42 about a month or so ago.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002RRH23W/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond, but it's also on Amazon. Eventually I plan on setting up a nicer display (since more amiibo are coming), but it's hard to beat this one for the price!
They're called: Azar Three-Tier Acrylic Step Display
If you plan on buying 4 of them, Staples has a Bulk Price for $80:
http://www.staples.com/Azar-Displays-8-3-4-H-x-12-W-x-8-1-2-3-Tier-Counter-Step-Display/product_83032
If you want individual ones, I recommend Amazon:

Looks really good! If your shelves are tall enough you might try some of these to maximize your space. https://www.amazon.com/Combination-Life-Acrylic-Display-8-5-Inch/dp/B014PXHVXQ/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=plastic+risers&qid=1559323876&s=gateway&sr=8-7
A bookcase that I bought from Home Depot, along with two of these
I've been able to fit my entire Smash collection on the top to shelves, and will be able to make room for the DLC characters. Might buy more eventually.

Amazon.co.jp. Reasonable price and ships internationally. Japanese versions, but that doesn't matter unless you're a NiB collector.
There's an option to shop in English on the site as well.
I paid just under $50 for him on Feb 1st (took forever to get here, actually forgot about those three).
So the current price isn't much higher than what I paid. I only did it as it came with the game, and the game looks very interesting.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5C7PMP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Ah that reminds me of another product.
There's another product called "Copco 2555-0188 Non-Skid 3-Tier Cabinet Organizer, 15-In" and it's about the same price or if you want something that expands 27 inches this should do as well http://www.storables.com/standard-expandable-cabinet-shelf.html.
Try Amazon Germany
As long as you are buying from Amazon (not an amazon seller but actually Amazon EU then you should be ok).

You would need at least 2 for the SSB set, and the SMB are taller so I'm not sure how well they'd fit, vertically. Right now Ike looks to be my tallest, and the top of his head just clips the feet of Yoshi on the shelf above.
Looks like this one to me.
Here's what similar shelves look like in the Ikea cases:

I'm still opening amiibos and arranging things.
I bought these at Amazon over a couple year period as I added cases. Place them in your cart and watch the price fluctuate. My buy point was $22 a pair.
Here's one from Amazon Germany that's about 20 bucks+ shipping which shouldnt be too bad http://www.amazon.de/Nintendo-1067566-amiibo-Smash-Marth/dp/B00N8PC142/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419925708&sr=8-1&keywords=marth

If you really need SSB Dedede, he goes for about $15, or a little over retail, on Amazon. I even hear Japanese Samurai Seller is reputable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ol/B00PIEHU74/ref=mw_dp_olp?ie=UTF8&condition=all
Current cheapest one is about $35 dollars on Amazon (free shipping) http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00PIEHUDS/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all
Copco. I got them from Amazon for $8 each, but found them a couple of weeks later at my grocery store for $5 so check around I guess!
I was thinking of hanging it on the wall over my tiered display, plus those things are kind of expensive. Thanks for the input though.
I believe somebody posted this before, but you can get them from Amazon Germany http://www.amazon.de/Nintendo-1067566-amiibo-Smash-Marth/dp/B00N8PC142/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418108259&sr=8-1&keywords=marth+amiibo
I'm not sure the total cost, but OP of the original thread (http://www.reddit.com/r/amiibo/comments/2oqeuh/alternative_way_to_get_marth_amiibo/) said it cost him $30. Only other option is eBay, and I see them selling for $80 right now :/
