9. Max and Neo MAX Reflective Metal Buckle Dog Collar - We Donate a Collar to a Dog Rescue for Every Collar Sold (Medium, Pink)

    Features:
  • YOUR PURCHASE HELPS A DOG RESCUE: For every collar sold, we donate an identical collar to a dog rescue. Dog rescues are in constant need of dog supplies. We donate 1 for 1 for every collar purchase. By purchasing one of our dog collars, you receive a premium high quality collar and you donate one to a rescue. Together we can support dog rescues with a never ending supply of collars.
  • DOG RESCUES: Each month we donate to different rescues throughout the USA. At the end of every month, we tally up the number of leashes and collars sold. Based on the number, we determine how many rescues we can donate to for that month. We donate down our list of rescues until each one has received a donation and then we go back to the top of our list. In special cases, we will donate to rescues out of turn based on their immediate needs.

I use this exact harness on Carly

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00URW5CTK/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1509640479&sr=8-6&keywords=dog+harness&dpPl=1&dpID=51DXOKMV6vL&ref=plSrch

Please be aware that she is able to slip out of it too. The key for me is to be aware of this tactic and eliminate it. Whenever she gets spooked and starts to reverse away from the leash to slip out I take the slack out of her leash, stand directly next to her forcing her to walk at my side keeping the leash taunt and directly over her shoulders. This does not hurt or choke her as the tension is placed at her chest. Once she has calmed and begins to obey I slack the leash and allow her to walk around and sniff as we go.

I'm no dog trainer but it works for me. Hopefully someone with more experience might chime in. Good luck!

He's a beautiful boy. You should be proud.

I don't mean to tell you your business, so please take this advice or leave it as you prefer. Having a dog riding in your vehicle untethered, while fun, can make the unpleasantness of an accident even worse -- either by your beloved hound getting hurt more severely or by way of him becoming a 50+ pound projectile, injuring the people in the car.

I've been through a few car harnesses with my basset, and the Kurgo Tru-Fit is the best one I've found so far. The best feature is that you don't have to get your dog to stand still with his front legs stationary while you secure it. It just slips over his neck and then straps clip around his midsection. His previous one was a pain in the butt for that reason.

Baxter looks like a great dog. You should read his book too!

I couldn't find it (we only used it 3 times, I think, so it's probably buried in one of our closets), but it was something like this one: link. You can probably check with your vet if there's a brand that they recommend.

This is where I get them on Amazon and I love them, they would work great for keeping their ears clean, but these two would never keep them on.

We have this to watch our dogs. Kind of fun to watch them snoozing away the day.

How big is your basset? My Lucy is around 45lbs this has been perfect http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002D8DBIA

I use a high-quality German-made retractable (Flexi). It's one of the ones that has a ribbon. The ribbon never tangles when it retracts into the leash. I think the ribbon ones are less prone to break.

ALSO, make sure to check your dog's collar as a point of weakness. A plastic latch is prone to breakage. I would recommend a metal buckle one, like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Max-Reflective-Buckle-Dog-Collar/dp/B01F36Q60S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485458185&sr=8-3&keywords=dog+collar+buckle

These are pretty much impossible to break. Any plastic parts can lead to a bad situation, esp. if your basset is trying to follow a scent and is pulling on the leash hard.

My wife and I have been using this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028QC9GM/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=1944687742&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001MUM5HI&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0WNAJ2TR6XC4H0B7NMNA

Pros: He seems more responsive to it on walks. It may just be his personality, but he always seems eager to put it on even when we are leaving the dog park.

Cons: It's difficult to get it to fit just right, if he tugs too hard and it's not right it can start to slip. If he tugs too hard to often, poor Isaac has little red sores under his front legs from stubbornness.

In short, I too am looking for a better one, but it does work.
