For $35: The DOD 250 is my favorite Bass overdrive. It can get anything from a transparent grind to a moderate fuzz. The reason it does the transparent thing well is because it literally is the drive circut from the Klon Centaur, it just doesnt have the buffer, blend or tone knob. The tone is directly tied to the gain knob which means you will really want to set the tone using the gain knob and you want to set the gain by driving more or less volume into the pedal. Kinda weird at first, but its pretty easy to figure out. here is some reading for the fun of it.

For $32: The JOYO Ultimate Drive is a very convincing clone of the OCD. Its a little on the anemic side for bass in comparison to the Fuzzrocious Demon (Bass specific OCD Clone) but for the price its pretty dang good... heck, at one time, they were repackaged and sold as the "Freekish Blues" botique pedal and were hyped up and going like hotcakes for $200 a pop until people figured out what was happening.

For $60: The Russian Muff Reissue is one of the better fuzzes out there for bass. Its on the heavier side, and doesn't do a transparent tone well but does a great great fuzz. Most iconic bass pedal on the market.

I was recently approached by a guitarist to build a Meathead Deluxe clone. I had never heard of this pedal before, but after some research I realized it was quite an iconic pedal. Its the same pedal used by Troy in Queens of the Stone Age.

This pedal, simply put, is a modern voiced Fuzz Face. It uses silicon transistors that are biased wide open for a rich crunchy grind. It is bigger and much more aggressive than your standard Fuzz Face. To quote the original designer of the pedal, "If you want a true vintage sounding Fuzz Face and purchase a Meathead, you wont be a happy bunny. The Meathead is supposed to break things."

I decided to use this build as an excuse to experiment with a few new build techniques. Screenprinting graphics is fairly cumbersome for just one off builds and I wanted a way to apply professional looking decals simply and effectively. Other DIY builders on the forums have been using Waterslide Transfers with impressive results... It was totally worth it. Its a very simple process and I think it looks very nice and tidy. I coated the transfer with a clear-coat once it dried for added durability. I would highly recommend this process to any pedal-builder. For better results, I think I need to wipe down the surface of the decal while it dries. I had a few water spots on the surface while it was drying that caused some minor dimples in the finish on this build.

I also wanted to find a better way to mount veroboard builds inside the case. With PCB builds, I typically design them to mount to the back of the pots and anchor in place that way, but its not always easy to do this with vero builds. I have seen some other guys use plastic standoffs in their builds and decided to try this for myself. These require a 1/8" hole to properly mount, so you will have to find a fairly empty "cut" to drill out in order to use these, but I think they worked pretty dang well. It makes the build look much cleaner in my opinion.

After the build was complete, I tried it out on my Bass. It was noticeably more aggressive than any of the fuzz faces i have tried in the past, but still sounded very musical. That being said, this is definitely a Guitar pedal. It sounds incredible higher up on the neck, but starts to lose some definition at the low E... Forget about even trying to play drop C with this on Bass haha.

I had an MXR ISO brick that smoked up on me while still under warranty. I bought one on amazon to fill in while I shipped the MXR back for repair. The amazon one works way better for me and I love the USB ports.

It’s Ammoon/ENO EX? It’s really hard to say, it has gone through a couple iterations

It’s pretty much your standard GEB-7 type circuit with a 63 swapping out the 50 most notably. The chassis is cheap metal but sturdy. It’s about 90% quiet but if you sneezed on the knob of a noise suppressor you’d never even notice. It’s pretty well quiet with a clean or light OD. Another redditor recommended it to me and I haven’t had any complaints.

Gotcha! I used a Led Strip Light I bought off Amazon. They come in a roll and you can cut them to the exact length you need. There are a bunch of options! White, RGB, remote controlled, app controlled etc.. Here's what I used:

Most are 9v or 12v, and have the same power jacks that pedals use. So I plugged the lights into my power supply. They have an adhesive back to them but I used the cable management clips below to secure them to the board.

I'm using the Rotary Machine. It's okay. Very niche pedal. I really only use it when I want some Tera Melos type sounds.

If you’re looking for a cheaper isolated power supply under $100 check out the Donner Dp-4. I have the Dp-3 and it’s built like a tank but the Dp-4 has a total of 8 9v outputs instead of six.

Don’t get the Dp-1 or 2 because they aren’t truly isolated.

The Joyo JF-02 - Ultimate Drive is also a nice pedal, and also really cheap. I have more expensive pedals, but this one stays on my board. You can find reviews on youtube for bass.

$36 bucks on amazon and it does everything I need. I only have 5 pedals plus a power supply but I've been using it for about half a year with no problems and it's much cheaper than a lot of other pedalboards I see.
