Some typical shoe choices liked by many many bboys

  • Adidas Gazelle
  • [Puma Suede] (http://www.amazon.com/PUMA-181649-Mens-Suede-Sneaker/dp/B001CHEQGO)
  • Pro-Keds Royal Lo
  • [Converse Chuck Taylor] (http://www.zappos.com/product/7155963/color/36295)
  • Nike Air Max (If you're big ballin')

Honestly you should just pick any shoe that is both comfortable and functions well when you dance. Here are some of my things to look for when choosing:

  • Comfort (Soles are good for support, shock absorbant, etc.)
  • Style (Breaking in running shoes.. do not do it unless you want to look horrible.)
  • Weight (The heavier the shoe, the harder it is to dance.)
  • Color (Bright colors can be tricky. You want it to be bright enough but not so bright that clowns could rock it.)
  • Material (Canvas is light but thin. Suede is thick but hard to care for.)
  • Traction (you don't wanna be slipping all over the place right?)

Just keep those in mind! Also you can find shoes by watching what other bboys wear. But of course, rocking different shoes from the crowd favorite will give you bonus freshness points.

Also! If you ever go at a jam or whatever, make sure you wear the cleanest shoe. It's not really a requirement but shit man, if you're somewhere to show your skills off, you should do it with shoes that don't have any holes or burn marks.

    Good luck!

Foundation

It's by Joseph Schloss. He's a guy whose work you may want to explore in general. He spent several years in the NY hip hop scene, interviewing all the OG's, while simultaneously starting/developing as a competitive b-boy. He also helped Alien Ness write "The Art of Battle."

Awesome, knowledgeable guy.

Recording with my smartphone, my biggest complaint is audio quality. If you have a capable smartphone, you might just want to buy a microphone (and tripod). I imagine digital cameras have limited microphone too, but it might be better for ambient noise as smartphone microphones have built-in noise cancellation. (I think the noise cancellation makes it worse for general recording, not sure though)

I haven't bought a microphone yet, as I'm not sure what type. I did buy this tripod: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HUC5G50/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 and its very useful.
