I’ve traveled to several countries since 2016 and it’s never been a problem. Some people have asked me my thoughts on Trump, and when I tell them I think he’s a giant fucking moron and an embarrassment to our country, they’re cool. I even sometimes wear this shirt when abroad and get some laughs....and as I sit here in the airport waiting to board my flight to Taipei, I realize I forgot to pack it. Damn.

Shortly before the 2016 election, I was with some friends in a comedy club in London - it was kind of an improv thing, and when I blurted out a suggestion and they heard my accent, one of the comedians said “Are you voting for Trump? Oh wait, of course not, you have a passport!” Which, to a certain extent, is true. A lot of the inbred yokels that still support him probably haven’t been outside their state, much less their country.

A big part of what you're looking for is a food that doesn't contain grains, especially "poor" grains like corn and wheat. Science Diet dry contains both.

There's numerous "review' sites (CatFoodDB seems like a decent one), but in general "higher protein and less grains" is a decent start.

My idiot fuzzballs get fed Earthborn, which is somewhat pricey but is roughly on par with Science Diet (compare Science Diet Adult Chicken with Earthborn Holistic Wild Sea Catch, roughly $2.18/lb versus $2.28/lb for Earthborn). It's still got pea and pea fiber, but by my understanding while those aren't desirable ingredients for a cat food (they're still effectively filler, after all) they are not as undesirable as wheat/corn/rice. Someone feel free to chime in with corrections on that, I'm hardly a feline nutritionologist.

I believe it can be useful in the context of measuring arousal for studies for researchers looking into human sexuality. See also: the vaginal photoplethysmograph. But the researchers take the results with a grain of salt because they know that physical arousal and how aroused/interested a person actually feels are not always correlated.

For a highly entertaining and yet very informative look at the world of sex research I recommend Bonk by Mary Roach.

Commentary where three very funny guys make fun of TERRIBLE movies (usually terrible, anyway).

There are some available on Amazon Prime right now -

Samurai Cop is fucking amazing

There's a bunch more too - "Stone Cold" is on prime and great. Cyber Tracker, R.O.T.O.R., Abraxas, etc. are great.

These aren't free w/ Prime, but The Guy from Harlem is hilarious, and Future Force is prime David Carradine schlock.

So true. They even make a tool to remove the pins in 10 seconds per pin or so. Can't recall if we can do Amazon links here but here's one I have that works well for under $15. I'll edit it out just in case:

Exposed hinges are the security equivalent of a screen door.

Nanny cams frequently have LEDs, but hidden cameras of the creeper landlord variety frequently don't because the whole point is to be discreet. Someone who lives there is gonna notice it even if it has a window over the LED.

Fun fact: that Amazon listing in the link used to have an example picture of someone installing the thing in a public bathroom.

I own a pair (they're really excellent as utility scissors for cutting hose, plastic packaging, etc). They have blunt tips and an angled handle, and are designed to slide along skin safely.

I wouldn't ever WANT to use them for their intended purpose, but it seems like they'd do the job just fine...

Restraints in nearly all cases are inhumane and unnecessary with proper precautions. A sealed room without a balcony for an unrestrained patient is perfectly safe for everyone involved. If you’re curious about this issue, there’s been an entire book written about the issue of restraints and forced treatment.

> I learned that the original "patient zero" (the origin of the term!) was exonerated of the label when we found out that HIV had been active in the US since at least the 1960's, and it's estimated that the disease jumped from chimps to humans as early as the 1910's.

You should read The Origins of AIDS, by Dr. Jacques Pepin. It is generally believed that there may have been instances of HIV/AIDS in the US in the mid 1960's, but the vast majority of (and only traceable) infections are likely the result of one individual who got HIV in Haiti and brought it to the US around 1969. There is a case from Norway from 1966, and some well documented cases in the Congo as early as 1959. Genetic studies seem to indicate that the "ancestor" of HIV could date as far back as 1910 though, as you said.

Just FYI, you can buy Arlo systems straight from Amazon (and I'm assuming other places) without going through a cellular provider or contracts.

My parents have this system for their home and it works well for what it is.

I don’t use the top or front flaps because I have the pans in a closet (bought this https://www.amazon.com/Cat-Door-Original-Interior-Cleaning/dp/B000AU64PK) but I rinse and air dry the filters for my hand vacuum and roomba & that might work for you.

Damn it! And in 2014, I apparently haven't searched for gay dinosaur erotica in a while.

This is the classic I remember originally finding. It's actually free to read with Kindle Unlimited, which I have, but though I'm really curious I feel to ashamed to check it out, even to laugh at.

I thought of similar ideas. Then I got recommended this youtube channel (see about 4:55 in the linked video) where a doctor who is a Vice Chair for Health Policy and Outcomes Research and writes for the New York Times talked about how the "state lines" thing is more of a myth. He's generally quite balanced when it comes to either side's ideas for healthcare reform (each has its own tradeoffs). https://youtu.be/6tlMALdsZ28?t=4m55s

Unfortunately, insurance companies already can sell across state lines. It just doesn't work out very well. With no regulatory boundaries, insurance sets up shop in the state with the fewest regulations and sells nationally with no real competition that would make things less crap (this happened with the credit card industry).

Networks are also setup locally due to time/money of making new ones far away, so having insurance in a different state is basically useless (which may happen to me if I stop being unemployed by getting a job in another state soon). [A couple of states tried to do this. NOT A SINGLE out of state insurer took their offer] (https://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/01/upshot/the-problem-with-gop-plans-to-sell-health-insurance-across-state-lines.html?_r=0).

Regarding rawrbunny, a large part of the problems seen in states like Texas (where I grew up) are caused by not accepting the medicaid expansion. By having Republicans reject the funding, they can then create their proof that Obamacare is more crap than it is (thanks Lieberman, for not letting us get a public option in exchange for your last crucial vote).

A side note - there's also a weird system in the US that ties healthcare to employment (not self-employment though), since healthcare benefits aren't taxed. It encourages rates to go up because no one is really paying for them. [For more info, check out Planet Money's podcast on it here. The section starts about 9 minutes in. It's fascinating stuff.] (http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2016/10/26/499490275/episode-387-the-no-brainer-economic-platform)

If you want to read more on how things got so bad, I'd highly recommend [An American Sickness: How Healthcare Became Big Business.] (https://www.amazon.com/American-Sickness-Healthcare-Became-Business/dp/1594206759/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1496388629&sr=1-1&keywords=an+american+sickness) It's also SUPER interesting, and even includes ways for people to save money through resources that try and make things more transparent.

As you may notice, I've been doing a decent amount of reading/research since the healthcare debate started up again. That, and the price of a fucking 15-minute CT scan (with insurance) varied MORE THAN $700 depending on which place I got it from when I was sick a while back. A good wake up call.
