Of the non-digital Demmes, I would definitely again recommend purchasing Melvin and Howard on DVD. It’s Demme’s early mainstream breakthrough, winning Oscars for Best Supporting Actress (Mary Steenburgen) & Best Original Screenplay, and showcasing many of his stylistic trademarks. It’s the first Demme that will have a full episode devoted to it (in three weeks on 11/24) and just a terrific, warm picture.

It’s currently available to purchase, as Andy so kindly noted above, on The Site That Has Done Some Number Of Things Wrong for a price that is pretty comparable to what you’d pay for a digital rental.

Blockbuster Game

Bunch of fun in my opinion. Friends who are really into movies and those who aren't both seem to enjoy it.

Lennon and Garant’s Writing Movies for fun and Profit has tons of this info, it’s really interesting. I got it for 50 cents on Amazon used last week.

Note: there are a handful of lines in the book that make it clear it was written pre-metoo. Nothing terrible, but there were a few moments I thought “geez guys you can do better” when talking about attractive women. I suppose the “geez guys” comment is also applicable to some of their movies, but that part I knew before reading the book.

There's also a great one written by Toshio Suzuki that came out a year ago, about being the producer on all those movies (except Cagliostro). It's written as a single book and reveals a lot about his producing style (which mainly seems to be encouraging risk even when Miyazaki wants to do his usual thing) Very revealing look at how it was Suzuki's perseverance that REALLY gets these guys to work, too. Looks like it's already out of print, but I really recommend it for hardcore fans. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mixing-work-pleasure-Toshio-Suzuki/dp/4866580224/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=toshio+suzuki&qid=1565518902&s=instant-video&sr=1-1-catcorr

I hate to tell /u/grifflightning but Galaxy's Edge is going to have completely straight-faced in-universe food item names a la Avatar Land, where the most adventurous item name is '"Teylu" all-beef hot dog', the hamburger baos are called "Pods" to make them seem future-y, and the signature snack item is called "Pongu Lumpia", which is Na'vi for "Party Snack". They wouldn't touch something like "Eywa-ffles" or "Na'vitamin water" with a ten foot pole.

If he wanted to make pun food he should have gotten hired as the menu writer at the Backlot Express a few years ago, because it could really use some of that punning energy instead of the weaksauce "Royal Guard Burger", "Dark Side Chicken and Waffles", and "Galactic Salad". They weren't even trying!

(Also there's a whole two books of SW food puns in this vein, headlined by Wookiee Cookies: https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Cook-Book-Galactic/dp/0811821846)

It's weirdly pricey on Amazon, but Toshio Suzuki's book Mixing Work with Pleasure, mostly about running Ghibli (and guiding / reigning in Miyazaki and Takahata), is probably the best overall behind-the-scenes history of the studio out there.

It's the oldest movie they've ever covered since they started doing the box office game, so it was the first time Box Office Mojo didn't have a weekend chart. Demme will be interesting, because he has six movies that predate BOM's weekend charts. I'd recommend an investment in this: https://www.amazon.com/Weekly-Box-Office-Charts-1970s-ebook/dp/B071GPPSGR

Ya know, if you feel that way, let me direct your attention to something that might really excite you...

Miami Vice - The Complete Series [Blu-ray] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HSAIOWU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_LSSgDbW0WQ6CS

I should mention for any "Physical Media 4 Life" diehards, both DVD and Blu Ray are Prime eligible. So you can enjoy the special feature that is not just regular old outtakes, but "Billy Crystal Outtakes"

I was trying to find a good edition of his run last night and saw that they are releasing this fairly soon. Will probably take forever to finish tho.

It’s the back page of a two volume set of the Nausicaä manga that I bought myself for my birthday like two years ago.

TV/VCR hybrids. I think I can see PV-M393, PV-M2059, and PV-S7680.

There might be a few dvd players in there but I think most are VCRs.

It's on Amazon Video, but only to buy, not rent, and it's $10 for SD. They have a bunch of the other Altman 70s movies available to rent.

The writer of The Flintstones also just did a Snagglepuss comic set in the McCarthy era with Snagglepuss as a Tennessee Williams figure. https://www.amazon.com/Exit-Stage-Left-Snagglepuss-Chronicles/dp/1401275214/

I think it's this:

https://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Fabulous-Decades-Worlds-Greatest/dp/0810925664

It rules, even if it isnt the book ARP had.

About 30 years out of date now though.
