> wondering if Bonnaroo has any sort of plan in place for extreme weather like severe thunderstorms or tornadoes

Not really, other than stopping shows and asking people to evacuate enclosed areas like the cinema tent and smaller fenced off areas like pits by the front of stage.

> What are your recommendations for being weather ready at Bonnaroo?

  • We bring cheap but large rain boots with us every year. Something like these. Maybe go to Wal Mart or something and see if you can find cheaper. Because when the rain really comes down and makes everything a mud pit...crap like a pair of Crocs or flip flops just isn't going to cut it. I want to stomp around and not worry about it.

  • Bring more than enough socks to last you the weekend. I usually bring like 8 pairs. Just in case. Honestly, once you get past your feet, rain isn't going to do much to you other than maybe make you a little chilly. But it will fuck your feet up (NSFL pic of what happens to wet feet in wet shoes over a long weekend). So just make sure to keep your feet as dry and clean as possible when the weather is nasty.

  • Make sure you have things to secure your tent/canopy. Nothing like having your canopy fly away in the middle of a thunderstorm. Buy a cheap kit like this. And then maybe some extra stakes. And then secure the shit out of your campsite.

  • Depending on the size of your tent, get a cheap military style cot. If your tent fills up with mud and water, this will keep you very happy. We started bringing cots a few years ago and they are freaking fantastic. No sleeping in dirt or mud.

  • Buy a semi-decent lightweight poncho and bring it with you. Stash it in your backpack. It will likely be the same price as those cheap plastic ones they will sell inside the venue. But will last you more than one use.

We just went on a big shopping trip this afternoon. We are going to attempt to fly our 4x6 foot flag with 3, 5 feet sections of 1 and a quarter inch PVC pipe, some connectors, a bucket, and 50 pounds of quick crete (about $20 total). We have one of the pipes cut into a point just in case we need to mallet it into the ground. Our list, and other distracting items. We also have duct tape just in case.

I also just bought a two plug car AC converter. I bought these recently. Excellent source of fiber and protein. And 600 glowstick bracelets.

We have acquired most everything we need. We will end up buying around 8-9 24 packs of water in addition to a dozen or so gallons and some other easy access water. We have a 15 passenger van with back seats taken out (no storage concerns), and its our first time going, but we figure people will be needing water come Sunday.

Here is a list of the things we purchased today. Maybe a thing or two will give you some ideas. We also used this as a guide and checklist as well:

  • -9x9 feet EZ Canopy
  • -6 cases of 24 waters
  • -a few gallon jugs of water
  • -2, 2.5 jugs of drinking water with spigget
  • -7 liters of gatorade
  • -imodium
  • -antacid
  • -acetometaphin/caffine/aspirin in one
  • -3 in 1 shampoo/conditioner/body wash
  • -bungee cords (4, a variety of sizes)
  • -100 feet of twine/high tensil string
  • -lamp oil
  • -small baby power and antibacterial gel
  • -4, 5 foot sections of 1,1/4" PVC pipe with connectors
  • -4 buckets (to carry water, epsom salt, etc)
  • -50 lbs of quickcrete (to put in bucket to make 15 foot flagpole with above)
  • -UV resistant, 8" zip ties
  • -UV resistant, thick tarp in case of rain and to cover the tent from sun heat
  • -baby wipes

Some things we bought individually: ear plugs, eyemask for sleep, offbrand camelbaks (2 liters with additional storage), flasks, granola bars (a variety, including a few boxes of high fiber), twizzlers, a metal hot/cold thermos, sugar free red bull (8 cans). should be bringing a few pounds of homemade beef jerky.

This all totaled around $250 or so.

[Friend], this is what we need you to buy:

  • -100 or more red cups
  • -paper towels
  • -toilet paper
  • -more baby and wet wipes
  • -coke/coke zero/any mixers in cans, not 2 liters
  • -5 hour energies (Wal-Mart may be cheaper than Costco? It was 10 for $16)
  • -zip lock bags (a variety of sizes)
  • -battery powered fan
  • -more gallons and cases of water. the more, the better
  • -gold bond extra strength
  • -clif bars
  • -dish/plasticware
  • -oil/fuel/pots/pans for your stove
  • -gatorade powder
  • -miscellaneous food items. we didn't buy a whole lot of food. or anything that could be cooked. i figure you can use your judgment and we'll go to Wal-Mart the night before.

Having a table at camp will make you feel human! It helps to have stuff up off the ground especially if you are cooking. Also a pump mister like the one I linked to will be great to help cool off and make new friends!

The best thing to do is to look at pinterest or google for festival camping checklists, that way you can be sure to be fully prepared! A little preparation can make the difference between an amazing experience or a sun baked hell.

Most importantly though is to bring good vibes!!! Can't wait to see you on the farm!!

I know you already bought it but it's easy to ask around and borrow a rubber mallet if you don't have one. This list should help you out. Other than that make sure you get the following things.

  • Water bladder and small backpack- Absolute must get to stay hydrated and comfortably hold everything you need while you're on the go

  • External Charger- I've had good luck with this one. It can charge an iphone around 5+ times before it runs out. It's a real lifesaver

  • Camp chair

  • Headlamp/ Lantern

I have 3 battery powered fans. Out of all 3 I think this one is the best one. Its smaller but that makes it portable and it has a lot of power (more than the next two I have) and has rechargeable batteries which are a big plus!

This one is nice to have hanging from the ceiling in your tent and also has a nice light for at night but its not that powerful at all and takes 2 D batteries.

Lastly this is the one you can get from walmart or amazon. It takes the most batteries (6 D batteries) but has pretty good power if its close to you. It can be awkward to position in your tent for it to actually cool you off depending on your sleeping situation...

First hand experience with this right here, my friend. Mine isn't what you may think of as an ez up. mine is a coleman screened shelter. its like a tent ez up hybrid. here is what i bought and im glad i did. i also bought a cot to get up off the ground. my first year i took a tent and hated it. so hot, so stuffy. never again. the cot helps cut down on the spiders risk, and i really haven't encountered many other bugs except ants if you leave food out. one thing i did to help with the sun/rain was bring tapestries and tarps to drape on the sides of the shelter if its sunny/rainy. this year im upgrading even further by picking up some old free haul away carpet from a carpet outlet to set up the shelter on top of. that should cut the risk of spiders as well as be nice to sit on.

This is a good price, but I would recommend spending a few extra dollars for one like this. Black is only $25 and the rest are about $32.

Kamp-Rite Double Kwik Cot https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004M0YY0G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MKRIyb2C5F524 this bad boy plus a moon mat on each side is what my fiance and I have used the past 2 years. Best sleep ever for Roo, without a mattress or anything it gets great airflow. But be sure to bring blankets/hoodies. I know we as well as many other people froze one night this past year, because we didn't have any

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/bonnaroo

That's a great deal. I got this one. You will have a million best friends with that thing.

u/shrimpandgritz · 1 pointr/bonnaroo

I haven’t tried it yet but I’m using some of these and some paracord to make some reflective curtains. Hopefully that will keep the canopy nice and cool

I bought this one! Tested it out and it's comfortable, works fine, and is really sparkly and cute! It's also only $23, at the moment.

u/MrBluntz42 · 2 pointsr/bonnaroo

I have this one it's not the biggest but it works well for $30. mine held up all last year and is still in great shape

I ordered this! I figured it'd be helpful for my outfits that 1) dont have pockets or 2) the pockets aren't even big enough for my phone.

I feel like I can definitely feel someone taking this off of me!!

u/nicolenicolenicole · 7 pointsr/bonnaroo

Protip: If you are using a tent, put one of those mylar emergency blankets on top of your tent, it reflects the sun. I did this my third year, I slept in everyday. It was glorious. I just secured it to the top using clothes pins.

Get some of these NUUN electrolyte tablets. Proper hydration will go a long way to keep you energized late into the evening. Also, they make kinds that have a small amount of caffeine (about 40 mg) if you want a little extra boost. https://www.amazon.com/Nuun-Hydration-Electrolyte-Essential-Electrolytes/dp/B019GU4ILQ?th=1

I just ordered this pretty neat kit. Mallets retail over 10 bucks usually, just by themselves.

u/g_d15 · 3 pointsr/bonnaroo

This one is under $20 and charges my phone at least 3 times fully. It’s amazing, I bring like 3 of them to roo and they charge everything my boyfriend and I need!!

The EZ-up/tapestries/cot combo last year was AWESOME. I slept from about 6am-1pm easily every day thanks to that sweet airflow <3

Bought this one from Amazon. It's sturdy af, but the downside is it takes up almost as much space as the EZ-up when it's packed.

Shade is the biggest MUST have when camping. Saw some people last year who didn't bring any type of EZ up and they ended up throwing towels over some small boxes and sitting under it. This is what I use it was on sale at the coleman outlet for $60. http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-15-Instant-Screened-Shelter/dp/B0033990PG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1332080213&sr=8-7

I never think mine gets to heavy. When I went for the first time in 2010 I had a cheaper brand and the straps would start the chafe and got annoying. Last year I bought this and had no issues at all. It also had a mesh strap that came out the bottom and was really useful caring around extra stuff.
