Hello,
Here's a copy of the chat transcript you requested:
Initial Question: Hi there!
I came across this item today whilst looking for a graphics card for a new PC I am building. The title and description (measurements etc.) of the item suggests the card is a Sapphire 290x.
However, the picture displays a VTX 280x which is a vastly inferior product.
Could you please confirm whether the item title/description or item's picture is correct?
Thank you,
James
06:40 PM(GMT) Priya(CSA): Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk. My name is Priya.
Hi James.
06:40 PM(GMT) James: Sorry I forgot to link the item!
This is it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Graphics-Express-Technology-TrueAudio/dp/B00H5LEIG4/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1393859380&sr=8-14&keywords=r9+290

06:44 PM(GMT) James: Ok, no problem.
06:44 PM(GMT) Priya(CSA): We can only contact them via internal email system.
06:46 PM(GMT) Priya(CSA): Most of the time you will receive the reply sooner.
Shall I contact them, please?
06:46 PM(GMT) James: Yes please.
06:47 PM(GMT) Priya(CSA): Yes, sure.
06:47 PM(GMT) James: I have just ordered the item. If I hear back from them that it is the VTX 280x, I will cancel my order.
Thank you very much for the help Priya!
06:48 PM(GMT) Priya(CSA): Yes, sure.
You are most welcome.
Is there anything else I can do for you today?
06:48 PM(GMT) James: No, that's fine thank you!
Have a good day!
06:49 PM(GMT) Priya(CSA): You are most welcome.
Thank you.
Good bye1
Take care!
Just to be sure we are talking about the same sticks, here are the good value sticks that are out of stock but at a great price. I risked buying them to see what happens, I'm hoping they will restock in the next 3 weeks max.
And here is the RAM I bought that is in stock. BIG price difference, and I know these are the better RAM but I will definitely be returning them if the others come though.
Initial Question: I ordered this item, however the title of the item has since been changed, will I still get the r9 290x or the r9 280x (Which is far inferior)? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H5LEIG4/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
03:25 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): Hello. Thank you for using Amazon.co.uk Chat, my name Gene.
03:26 PM(GMT) Me: Hello Gene
03:26 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): Hi there, XXX
03:26 PM(GMT) Me: The problem is pretty much as above. I contacted you yesterday also, as the picture was wrong on that same page, however the title was only changed this morning.
03:27 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): Oh.. I'm sorry to hear that XXX.
03:28 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): It appears that these changes with the product occurs because a customer recently told us that the item he or she received was not as described.
With this, the item now is under review by our Product Team
03:29 PM(GMT) Me: Ok, I don't think the item has actually been sent to anyone yet, as it was only recently added to Amazon. So could this be because of the issue of the picture not matching the title? If so, how could we be sure of which item we will receive?
03:30 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): Yes XXX.. That's because that the item does not match the image we have on our website.
As of the moment though, we're unable to confirm if you will still receive the Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 290X
03:31 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): However, I can assure you that any changes or update we have, you will be notified right away.
03:32 PM(GMT) Me: OK, how soon do you think that will be?
And will we be notified before the funds are taken out of our account?
03:33 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): Yes XXX, you will be notified before we charge your order.
03:34 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): As of the moment, I'm unable to provide an exact date.
However, rest assured that we are working this issue to be resolved as soon as possible.
03:35 PM(GMT) Me: Ok, thanks very much.
03:35 PM(GMT) Gene Michael(CSA): You're very welcome.
Would there be anything else I can help you with?
03:36 PM(GMT) Me: No thanks. thanks again for all of your help!
I think I'm going to stick it out, I'm sure that I will receive the 280x, but will wait for them to get back to me.
as another guy on this post has pointed out before I realised; there are better deals like this one for example because its faster and with free shipping https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMK16GX4M2D3000C16-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B07B4FRMGV I recommend going to /r/pcmasterrace and telling them what you want your build for etc and what your budget is and get them to recommend you a build. Some good guys over there that have helped me a ton
Not sure about this being much of a deal.
Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Total is £490; the RAM price was over £200 on amazon so maybe the prices were just elevated a good while ago or they're moving old stock, either way it's been sub £100 all round the web for months now which is where I assume the bulk of the "30% off" comes from. Convenient amazon price history link here
I guess it comes pre-assembled and thus presumably ready to work without flashing the bios for a £30 premium.
3 year warranty is nice too I guess.
I didn't shop around at all though so you can probably find better deals than just double checking the component costs vs amazon.
Hope I didn't miss anything very obvious.
Sandisk Ultra II 500GB
It obviously hasn't started but a decent price cut on a 500GB SSD would be pretty nice. Depends on how steep the discount is. Probably worth keeping an eye on if you're looking for that sort of thing.
Corsair Carbide 600C
Again, hasn't started, but a decent deal on a case could be good.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zotac-NVIDIA-GeForce-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B01IA9FEOO/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1511786465&sr=1-3&keywords=1060+6gb
Here's one for £254, if memory serves that was a good price even before the mining blowup. Not out until Dec 7th but that's only next Thursday so if you're in the UK as opposed to Ireland, France etc you'd probably have it by Fri 8th or Mon 11th, about perfectly in time to treat it as a Christmas present to yourself!
XG2401 on Amazon Warehouse. One of the best 1080p 144Hz monitors.
Can get a Like New one for under £175 with the 20% off deal. Any issues, it's Amazon's amazing return service.
Im looking at pretty much the exact same build. I was just about to get this kit to go with the 2600x. At £117 I feel like its a pretty good deal.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XRFNWHK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1
I've an 850 Evo 500gb and it's been great so far. I have Windows, my main programs and games on there. However with big games now reaching 50gb+ I'll need another soon.
I got mine from Amazon for around £145 - this SSD is listed twice on Amazon, at slightly different prices, I don't know if one is a retail version or how they've done it, but it's the same SSD, just a little cheaper.
ETA: Here it is. Temp out of stock. It shows £169.58 here, I paid £138.73 in early December. Worth keeping an eye out for.
ETA 2: The regular listing is a tenner off, at £144.27 - still a good buy IMO.
https://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/SanDisk-Ultra-SATA-Internal-Write/product/B01N6Y18ZM
Looks like they put the price up last week to try and trick you by making it look like a better deal. Amazon put their price up from £139.99 to £149.99 on the 3rd, and 3rd party sellers put theirs up from £135.97 to £183.46 on the 6th
Benchmarks suggest that this is 20% below usual ssd performance ( 450-425 mb/s r/w vs industry 500/500+ mb/s average ), but you still got a massive 3-8x faster speeds comparing to a HDD.this ssd compared to 970 evo 500gb : https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/WD-Blue-3D-1TB-vs-Samsung-970-Evo-NVMe-PCIe-M2-500GB/m352978vsm493995
one of the best value ssd's out on the market the Crucial mx500 comparison, pricewise they are around the same level, if you ask me, I'd go with Crucial instead:
https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/WD-Blue-3D-1TB-vs-Crucial-MX500-1TB/m352978vsm406099
it costs ~129£ here
Just bought a used Acer XG270HU 1440p 144hz for £277. There is another used one still available, slightly more expensive still available for £293 after the discount applied.
NB: If you don't have prime you can sign up for a free 30 day trial. Also if you think the used products might not be worth it, all amazon warehouse deals come with a free 30 day return period.
Updates on deals I found that people might want:
Another monitor i found : Viewsonioc g-sync 1440p 165hz for £389 after discount. New is for £689. Two available
If you cant afford one of the latest cards, or you're on a budget the [Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 970 G1] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00NQ862GY/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all&qid=1499253163&sr=1-84) is for 172 after discount. Might be worth it considering the GPU shortage because of etherium mining. 7 Available
For colour sensitive professional work : [ViewSonic VP2770-LED 27-inch WQHD IPS Professional Monitor] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00906HNZU/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all&qid=1499253646&sr=1-130) £255 after discount. £439 new, one available.
If you want something less gamer aesthethics that's very similar have a look at

ViewSonic XG2703-GS

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ViewSonic-XG2703-GS-27-inch-DisplayPort-Speakers/dp/B01LWJMM1S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536568617&sr=8-1&keywords=viewsonic+gsync+1440p

They both have the exact same panel.

Also the Predator isn't as bad as it looks, as I have a friend who has one and when looking from the front it appears ordinary. The Acer one usually goes on sale like this often enough, where personally I don't think the price jump to the ViewSonic is worth it.
A good deal at current market prices.
However for an extra 10 euro you could get this
https://www.amazon.de/Patriot-DDR4-3200-MHz-PC-Speicher-288-PIN-Heatsink/dp/B016A29PWA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525562540&sr=8-1&keywords=viper+16gb+3200
Which is the same speed at 3200Mhz but better timings of CL 16-16-16-36. The ripjaws are CL16-18-18-38.
Not a big difference but probably worth 10 euro more.
This 2x8GB deal is good, it will leave you with spare slots for upgrading in the future. This is good because you don't need to get rid of the RAM you already have. Are you planning on overclocking? Got details to share about the rest of your setup?
The MX500 is slightly cheaper and I would favour it over the WD. Link
I know there are different dies for ram sticks and some are better than others, but I'm not sure how to check what each one is or which are the best? I'm currently looking at this ram that's on sale ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07WMMG2TG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1 ) and was wondering if you thought it was decent ram or not? Are there better alternatives for a similar price?
'Like New' XG2401 (apparently one of the best 1080p 144hz monitors) for £166 or so after 20% off: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B01A0ZRR50/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2OAJ7377F756P. Check specific listings for details on potential issues.
Or for £60 extra the Acer Predator with g-sync. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B01AJTVBQI/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2OAJ7377F756P
All I can say is I have a 2700x for a year and a half now and i am impressed with it... this price is a pretty decent price for 8c/16t at 4.3ghz
You can find it cheaper on amazon at £193
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Processor with Wraith Prism RGB LED Cooler - YD270XBGAFBOX https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07B428M7F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DNMKDbRVRF0KZ
[The nitro+ is also on sale] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071Y7CKM2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_J5O7BbR9WEE9T). It's slightly more money but still a great price for that card
Which would be better, the ones you posted or 2x 8GB 2133MHz CL14?
EDIT: I know it has a faster clock speed, but it also has a greater latency, and I have read before 2 sticks are preferred to 4. How will this be reflected in a gaming pc? Would I be able to tell any difference?
For gaming, does it make more sense to go for this or the slower but cheaper Western Digital?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073SB2MXT/ref=twister_B07J4K9P1X?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Just want one drive in new build.
Thanks for any advice.
ViewSonic XG2703-GS
Could be a good deal but the Acer Predator XB271HU Is probably a slightly better choice and is already at £599
That's for the Euro. Which hasn't lost value as much the pound has. 850 Evo on Amazon UK See how the price has been rising since the end of June (Brexit), well before the holidays. Your point is still valid, I would say it's a bit of both.
There was a thread a couple days ago with the same RAM
But amazon has more speed options for varying prices. You can get a 1x8gb @ 3000mhz instead of 2400 for £37.10 with free delivery (compared to Ebuyers £35.50 including delivery).
There's also three for sale in the Amazon warehouse for only £268.46, which is a fantastic price. Find them here.
I know it’s a bit more expensive but wouldn’t this 1060 6gb be a better buy?
You can also get this ram for around the same price I bought 4 sticks and it works great https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMK8GX4M2D2400C14-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B07B4FRMGV/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1550149845&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=3000mhz+ddr4&dpPl=1&dpID=41WbiceILFL&ref=plSrch
It's £299.99 on Amazon. Free delivery I assume.
Edit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Ryzen-3700X-Processor-Cache/dp/B07SXMZLPK/
It says delivery takes 1-4 weeks though.
Do you guys think it's going to get cheaper or should I just take the plunge?
I'm waiting for MSI's MAX motherboards next month.. so not going to be able to use the 3700x for a while.
Thanks! Same price on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06WP5YCX6
Sapphire Nitro+ on Amazon.fr for 200 Eur, not sure how much shipping and conversion etc etc costs turn out to be, but should be cheaper, plus a better card
However you do not get games buying from there.
https://www.amazon.fr/Sapphire-Nitro-Graphique-Radeon-Express/dp/B071Y7CKM2/
RGB tho
G.SKILL F4-3200C16D-16GTZR Trident Z RGB Series 16 GB (8 GB x 2) DDR4 3200 MHz PC4-25600 CL16 Dual Channel Memory Kit - Black with full length RGB LED light bar https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MTDEYHU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_HfDfAbD5QPFZK
Its a shame yours isn't working well because I've really fallen in love with my mod mic. Maybe worth looking around for other people with issues. I'm using this on an extension it seems to work really well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LH1NQ9W?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LH1NQ9W?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
definitely upgrade to this, its cheaper too.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428M7F/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=ryzen%2B3800x&qid=1574099938&sr=8-3&th=1
Awaiting for this ram to come back in stock, and this is a relatively good deal...
Yep, I actually got mine off Amazon, not sure why I linked Newegg.
Amazon prices.
This is actually cheaper than the LPX non-RGB version.
CamelCamelCamel graph
As you can see though, it's only going down so if you are looking at buying it may be worth just waiting until you actually need it. But at this price it would be an excellent upgrade for any computer with limited SSD space or no SSD - I got a 500GB (£115.99) for my Macbook and it's sooo much faster.
Here's the link to the Sapphire Nitro 8GB RX580 at £157 (£5 postage as well so £162 in total) https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-11265-01-20G-Radeon-back plate-Graphics/dp/B071Y7CKM2
