Very exciting, I hope you enjoy the hell out of it for many years. I've written about this before but you might be surprised when you get out there how little you need any kind of formal system. KISS, at least to start. :) To wit:

> Ideally we'd like enough power to power 1 or 2 led nights [sic] at night, maybe a small 32in TV etc. If there is enough power, a coffee maker maybe.

All that said I may not even get to my place next week and if I do I may die in the cold there, so there is the downside to just winging it. Do you have any pictures to post of what you got?

The two I referenced most before I started my cabin were:

How to Build Your Home in the Woods from 1952.

The Wilderness Cabin from the early 70s

These are enjoyable and easy to read. They discuss every step of the process, and most of the info is still relevant today. I found both my copies at second hand stores, so check out the Home and Gardening book section of Value Village / Savers first.

You can always buy a plug that goes between any appliance and the outlet, which has a thermostat built in which you can then plug any heater into. Such as this. These are often used to turn on a heater when the temps get close to freezing, and can burst your pipes, but you don't need to waste energy having the heater warm the place up for a human.

This is an excellent book, it's periodically updated and reissued but my version from college is still valid, so you could probably find a used copy: https://www.amazon.com/Graphic-Guide-Frame-Construction-Revised/dp/163186372X/ref=dp_ob_title_bk

I'll recommend three!

An exploration of how biology affects culture, framed in a hard science first contact story:
The Mote in God's Eye

In the near future scientists discover a dead astronaut on the moon... who died 50,000 years ago.
Inherit the Stars

A sci-fi classic with great characters along the way. The over-crowded Earth is heavily reliant on the food created by a prison colony on the moon, which decides to declare its independence, with the help of the first A.I.
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
