I have an older digital version of this book, it has been republished so I’m sure they updated some of their information but this tome (516 pages) has a lot of good information. It’s easy-to-understand and has tons of good images to help illustrate the techniques and processes for all the major. It’s pretty costly (~$90-$100), but depending on your level of interest it could be a great investment to your growing knowledge.

Yeah, I'm using a pre-fab grow tent. The reason I duct my passive intakes is so that I can add at least one 90° angle to the duct so that when the lights are out, the passive intakes aren't allowing any light in to the tent.


CFM = ft³/minute
3x3x5 = 45ft³
45ft³/190CFM = 0.24minutes = 14.4seconds


The CFM listed on your fan is almost always measured under ideal circumstances (basically just the fan out in the open, attached to no ducting at all). The actual output will be lower when you add ducting, and especially when you add a carbon filter. If your fan is called a "booster fan", it should not be hooked to a carbon filter and these reductions will be larger.


What I did to measure my exhaust directly was grabbed a garbage bag (that listed its size in litres/gallons), and measured the time it took for my exhaust fan to fill the bag.

They are especially good at the canopy level. I have considered getting a slightly stronger fan for ground level.

Apera Instruments makes very very good ph pens. I’ve had mine for many months and I’ve calibrated it 2 times. I didn’t even need to calibrate it the 2nd time. I just wanted to see if it was off after a couple months, but it was still good! It’s still correctly calibrated right now, which has been another couple months since I did it last

I know some people use the cheap 15-20$ Orange and yellow ones amazon has with some pretty good results. I would personally spend a tad bit more and get one from Apera if you can.

Plilzin 600w from Amazon.- these were my first LEDs and although they are ok, I would not recommend them based on the availability of better ones at a similar price point.

This is exactly what I was hoping to find on here! thanks! I spent an entire day looking up pH pens but calibrating it every time with the packets (which only came with 2 per order) seemed like a hassle and some people said they werent as accurate as they would like. I found the following:

Would this be fine? also for the vial, is there a specific amount of water it can hold (can it hold enough for 1 watering sesh) or is it small and would i just have to keep adding water into the vial to adjust pH until i have given the plant enough water.

Your best bet would be to look at "quantum board" style lights. They are boards with many small LED diodes etched on. If you decide on options 2-5, Makes sure to get a 240w board or higher for your intended grow space.

Pre-assembled boards are more expensive, but if you order the non-assembled ones (DIY), it is much cheaper. Kingbrite is a trustworthy brand on Alibaba. Assembled or not, Alibaba will be the cheapest out of all of these.

No way to make electric turn into heat more or less efficienctly but the key is to heat liquid (oil) to retain the heat in the room for longer. Something like this is your best option:

Your advice on the soil composition has been super helpful. I just ordered some additional perlite as I learned my mix is very light on non organics for airspace. I didn't even think about this until you posted. I ended up purchasing a 1 gal sprayer with a low pressure sprayer I'll post pics when it arrives. After some reads on other posts, I makes a lot of sense for reach and east of gentle watering (again, I never thought about this!).

Can you tell me a little more about recharge? I'm really unfamiliar. I'm pretty versed on compost teas but is there something to consider more into flower or late stage pre flush that has worked well for you? Again, I'm trying to do an entirely organic grow if possible.

Its not actually 2000w like the 1000w you are looking at won't measure that much.

I combine that one with a QBoard and have a nice flowering station for 3 full plants, getting all desired angles.

And I use it more than anything.


I found that PEAK is 20k lumens is max for a full grown plant and 19k for sprouts.


Comfort zone is around 17-18k (peak). Every inch drops by 1000 points.



But, with under powered lights you have a second problem, radiation from the LED output device.


If you have to push the LEDs to close to get the 20k, you'll burn the plants very prematurely from heat from the board and some other radiation source that I am presently on a quest to get the exact physics on.



If you got outside on a partly cloudy day you'll pull 90k lumens from The Great Photon Emitter in the sky.



I have a high powered device, probably like what you ordered as a main flowering LED and its almost 2.5 to 3 ft above the plants and comfortable handles 2 plants. For a 3rd, I am squeezing and rotating a lot.


I dangle a lower powered 80w at a side angle to 'fluff' the top and middle from a different angle with photons. Never exceeding 20k lumens at any point on the plant.


I might still be a little to high and need to back my lights off some.



Remember, LEDs are just laser beams with a borked direction

Yes you can fix it but you'll need to get a few things. You need a cheap ph meter, calibration solution, and ph up/down. About $40 for all of it but controlling ph is one of the most important aspects of growing cannabis so you need this stuff in your garden.

I have a T6 and a T4 with the manual speed contoller, dead quiet even at mid high speeds and it moves a ton of air. Love both of them, mine hang on bungee cords to absorb any vibrations.

The fancy controller will spin up the fan speed relative to a temperature set point and possibly humidity. Just make sure to set the fan speed to the maximum in manual mode before you set it to auto, if you dont and the fan needs to ramp up to a speed higher than the level set in manual mode it will supposedly lock out, and that was part of the reason I opted for the manual controller.

That said I did my reasearch 5-6 months back, they may have fixed the issue, and it also did not seem many people were effected by the issue, so the fix of setting the fan speed to max before setting it to auto may work.

Are these any better? I have two. If not, please recommend the best light to purchase.

Have had it for a while and hasn't failed yet. I follow manufacturer instructions on storage. I check the calibration once every couple months and it hasn't needed calibration in about a year now. This is my Mother Im currently training to cut clones from in the future. She's spent her whole life so far under just 2 of those Apollo's. https://imgur.com/eIXmu4n. To be fair though the light was just raised so I can get her to stretch, the light is usually only ~6-8inch's above the canopy since fluorescent's don't pull out very much heat. An I will be adding an additional light since she is getting bigger now.

I would stick with the blowing the fan on the plants while hung. If you dry in a box, and for some reason something goes wrong and your fan dies you have more of a chance of humidity building up inside a smaller, enclosed space.

I agree Mars Hydro is a great tent for a great price, you could get a vivosun if you want to save 35$ or a gorilla tent if you want to spend 335$ extra but I would go with the Mars Hydro.

Get this so you know exactly what your temps and humidty are like in that closet.

What kind of nutrients are you using and are you following the feed chart exactly including making sure your pH is dialed in?

Can you link me to the LED you are using and how many hours is your grow light on?

Chances are you are WAY to close and definitely not too far away.

Those sprouts are trying to get their head in the dirt, not reach for the sky like a guppy on its last breath.

Find the point they are reaching for the sky (about 3 to 3.5ft or higher if your lights are stronger). Then lower a little at a time (every 2 days) until they level off a little.

They should always be reaching just a little at the tippy top. about 10 - 15 degrees.


Also, if your leaves turn too dark too quickly, is another sign of roasting your bud (to be) way to early.


LEDs like lasers. are a specific wavelength. Your eyes are uses to many colors coming from the sun and incandescent bulbs. About half the spectrum is missing from LED (so it can be more efficient in the ones you want), so your eyes 'think' its not as bright, but it is. At least in photon impact and heat generated is concerned.

Vivosun net from amazon is cheap and can be cut to fit your needs. You'll have extra net if ever needed as well.

Yep, I had the same thing happen on my first grow (on my 3rd now). It's stretching due to not enough light. You can basically ignore the recommendations of the grow light manufacturer's as far as distance above the plants -- they seem to always err on the side of caution.
