I would suggest the [Acer R11 for $269USD](https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Chromebook-Convertible-11-6-Inch-CB5-132T-C1LK/dp/B01J42JPJG/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483770071&sr=1-2&keywords=acer+r+13 "Amazon Link to purchase") if you're really on a tight budget, but you're going down to 11.6", which may in the end be better for portability if you're still lugging back and forth from classes. It also has Android Apps in the stable channel which is a bonus. Just make sure if you get the R11 that you get the 4Gb Ram model or else Android won't run well on it anyway. My previous chromebook was the Acer C720P, which has the same screen size, and it was nice and light to carry around from work, home, and travelling, and was the laptop that I've used for most of my Master's degree and works well for typing long papers. The [Asus Chromebook Flip (1) at $259USD](https://www.amazon.com/C100PA-DB02-10-1-inch-Chromebook-1-8GHz-Operation/dp/B00ZS4HK0Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483771163&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+Chromebook+flip "Amazon Link to purchase") is nice, but in my opinion the keyboard is too cramped to be used as a computer to write anything longer than a facebook or reddit post, which I imagine why your original post requested info on 13"-ers, and 16Gb storage is too small for the future anyway.

I currently have the [Acer R13 at $399USD](https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Chromebook-Convertible-13-3-inch-CB5-312T-K5X4/dp/B01LXYG77O/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483771046&sr=1-1&keywords=acer+r+13 "Amazon Link to purchase") and it's great. I honestly can say it's overall the best computer I've ever owned and in my opinion the best value for a computer that money can buy. That being said, $400 is a lot of money for a student, but if you can afford it, it's definitley the one I'd recommend for you. The new ones that are coming out of CES, specifically the [Asus Chromebook C302 at $499USD](https://www.amazon.com/Chromebook-C302CA-DHM4-Traditional-Laptop-Silver/dp/B01N5G5PG2/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483771756&sr=1-1&keywords=Asus+Chromebook+C302 "Amazon Link to Pre-Order") and the [Samsung Chromebook Plus at $449USD](https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-XE513C24-K01US-Chromebook-Touch-Screen/dp/B01LZ6XKS6/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483771819&sr=1-2&keywords=samsung+chromebook+plus "Amazon Link to Pre-Order"), that will have touch and support android apps may run better but all cost more, will be harder or impossible to get now, and are arguably not a better value for the dollar. Back lit keyboards are nice but aren't a necessity for you I imagine!

Good luck on making a decision and let us know what you ultimately decide!

The greatest bang for your buck laptop out there at the moment. Hp x360 Chromebook. The pricing varies a bit and the model I've linked to is refurbished but you should expect to pay $400 ish. Look on eBay and bestbuy. Bestbuy in particular runs upto $200 discount on this model from time to time. Black Friday sales might be good too.

Pros:

  1. Processor. 8th gen Intel U processor. Packs more punch than most other Chromebooks in the market which have Y processor. Anything above this would probably require a powerful fan.
  2. 8 GB ram. Lpddr4. More ram and faster ram (2400 hz). Most others have lpddr3
  3. Good keyboard. I tried one at bestbuy and the reviews agree
  4. Touchscreen IPS so good viewing angles. bezels are pretty decent
  5. Linux supported.

    Cons
  6. No stylus support. You can always use a capacitive pen. But some apps and software does better with stylus support
  7. Not too heavy to carry easily but bulky enough to be slightly awkward in tablet mode.lighter Chromebooks available.
  8. Screen is good but not excellent. Does not have the highest sRGB coverage.

Honestly, I'm looking for something with pen support. If it hadn't been for that, I might have already bought it. This is what I would consider an ideal Chromebook. Now if only Google would fix some of its software shenanigans

The first thing that comes to mind is Acer Chromebook 14. The gold version is an exceptional beauty, in my opinion, and the build is, from what I've heard, quite solid.

The price should definitely fit your budget, and I am almost sure it will, eventually, receive Android app support. It probably won't run apps that require a touchscreen and/or sensors like a gyroscope, but things like the Android version of Microsoft Office and the Adobe Mobile apps will be available, should your dad want them.

The display size, 14 inches, is probably as close you can get to 15" unless you decide you want Acer Chromebook 15, which, while a viable choice, is worse than the Chromebook 14, IMO. The quality of the display is also great. Nothing mind-boggling, but it's well-made and looks good. The fact that it's 1080p helps, too.

The specs should also be good enough: the CPU does its job and 4GB of RAM is enough for Chrome OS.

Unfortunately—and oddly—it doesn't come with a micro SD card slot (ironic, considering my original comment). There are workarounds, like /u/Try_to_guess_my_psn suggested: Google Drive is a great way to store stuff, and whatever you want to be available all the time, you can download (or "enable offline", as Drive calls it). The only other option is, probably, an external drive. The choice is up to you guys.

All in all, it's an excellent Chromebook, and probably the one I'd be getting if I wanted to pay less than $300 and didn't need a touchscreen with a built-in digitizer for proper stylus support (I mentioned sub-300 because, otherwise, I'd probably get HP Chromebook 13. But that starts at $499).

If she is using the youtube tools to edit it then she will be fine. Anything website based is usable. She can use Google Hangouts, but not sure how that would work with her friends that don't have Hangouts ;) 16gb is small and it is basically just the OS on it from what I can tell. Drive storage is where everything seems to be stored at as far as downloads and stuff like that (but I haven't done much of this), IIRC Google gives you extra storage for buying a CB (could be an old gift though).

I bought a refurbished HP 14 and love it (price is way off from what I paid). It's a white soft plastic, so it is kinda hard to keep clean, that is really my only gripe. The batter lasts forever!!! I actually left mine in my bag for 2 or 3 months with no use, picked it up and the batter was still about 1/2 way charged.

Personally, I have recommended these to all my friends who want a laptop for surfing the web and watching Netflix and things along that line. The low cost and usability are perfect for eachother. Also, if she somehow gets a virus, quick and easy reset puts you back to factory without losing your data (since it is stored on Chrome ;) )

I ended up getting a HP x360 11. (Here's an Amazon link)

MrChromebox sold me on why the Spin was the better choice especially in regards to long term support, and put to rest any worries I had on the R11 being the a faster machine. But then before I went to buy the Spin I looked at some more reviews and finally came to the conclusion that there wasn't that much discernible difference between the 11" convertibles with the N3350 processor. So I ended up finding the HP on ebay which cost $175 with shipping and had a 64GB harddrive. In my experience I think Acer makes a better laptop than HP but I couldn't beat the price and I felt I would rather have the bigger harddrive the HP had than the stylus that the Spin came with (especially since I couldn't upgrade these harddrives like I did with my C720).

So far I've been pretty happy with my purchase. The HP does what I need it to do, like listening to Spotify and writing in Google Docs which my 2GB C720 had a problem with. I can even play XCOM Enemy Within (Android version) which I was pleasantly surprised with.I haven't installed Crouton yet and just been playing around with Crostini for the time being. The Android Steam streaming app works okay but I still want to see how it works from Linux.

At this point it's replaced my Nook HD+, although reading books on the Nook is a better experience. I think the screen ratio on the HP is little wonky so holding it in portrait mode makes the pages seem too long. Also, some of the Android permissions seem to be restricted, which limits those apps. For instance, I use Moonreader and on the Nook I can easily adjust the screen brightness using the controls within the app but doing this on the HP has no effect and I have to make the changes from shelf/mini-menu that shows my open apps. Still, it's not a big issue so I find I would rather just put up with it than carry two devices around.

I haven't looked into the Pixelbook lineup but I've been using an Asus C302 for front-end development and I honestly can't see myself going back to windows right now.

The only downside with the C302 is it's limited to Crouton. Apparently the kernel is too old for Crostini, but I haven't run into a problem that requires Crostini.

With Crouton I run a Xenial chroot and open Linux Apps through the xiwi extension. I've run into a few issues with Xiwi, mainly authentication. Some apps require me to authenticate in the browser (Postman & Spotify), but they don't have the ability to access the native ChromeOS browser. To solve this I had to add a desktop environment to my chroot and authenticate in that desktop's browser. Luckily, I only have to do this once, so if you're limited on storage you can just remove the desktop environment after.

The other issue with running Linux apps through xiwi is you lose access to the media keys. Crouton has a flag named keyboard that should fix this but it doesn't seem to work with my chromebook. This isn't that big of a deal for background apps, like Spotify, but when I run VSCode I would get tired of having to leave the app to turn down the audio or turn up the brightness.

I did some research and found code-server. It was built to allow developers to access VSCode remotely through their browser, but I use it to run VSCode on http://localhost:3000. I created a shortcut for this port and checked "run as window" so it takes up the whole screen.

The only downside with code-server is that it doesn't have access to all the extensions in the VSCode Marketplace. Apparently the code-server team maintains their own collection of extensions and optimize them individually. Simple extensions like themes and icons get added automatically but more complex extensions like live-server and live-share have yet to be supported.

Also, I bought this USB Hub from Cable Matters. After it shipped, I was informed by Cable Matters that my dual 1080p setup would not be supported, but not only did my C302 extend to both, it kept the original display available so now I have a nice triple monitor setup!

I have an Acer 14 and it's awesome. The screen is amazing quality for watching shows and the aluminum build is really beautiful.

I really don't think storage should be an issue at all. Invoices shouldn't be taking up a large amount of space. As the other user mentioned, google drive makes for a great place to store things, or to store backups. Additionally even though it doesn't have a sd slot, you can still get a usb drive for backup or storage of old

You can also get a usb drive like this: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-128GB-Flash-MUF-128BB-AM/dp/B017DH3O5A/ which barely sticks out and can easily be left in all time.

A Lenovo Thinkpad 13 would fit those requirements pretty well, I know the Celeron version goes for very cheap all over the place, but you might be able to score the i3 version for around $300 if you look hard enough.
This is my personal device, and it runs crouton very well, though I've never tried chrx...

Here's an awesome site I found for keeping track of Chromebook deals --> http://chromebookbuyer.com/

I bought this for my son's C302, installed it immediately, and it looks/feels great. The peace of mind is worth the $ for me.

(I have the same type for my Chromebook Pro, and love the fact that I don't have to worry about scratching it.)

>I'm neither, I'm the guy who builds firmware that actually works and is supported. https://mrchromebox.tech

Never knew. Thank you for telling me. I'll take a look at the website and your method for taking on this challenge.

>if you use RW_LEGACY firmware with the stock firmware and remove ChromeOS, then you 1) have to hit CTRL-L every boot, 2) risk losing the ability to boot in Legacy Boot Mode if the battery is removed or full run down, and 3) lose out on all the improvements of running a modern firmware build. There's also potentially device-specific limitations with Legacy Boot Mode

To be honest, I'm okay with this method. I don't mind having to press CTRL-L to enter the bootloader to boot up Linux. That said, are you saying your firmware bypasses this step, without having to remove the write screw?

>A google search for that exact model comes up empty. If it's an x360 / SNAPPY (all device support is based on the ChromeOS board name, not model #) and is Apollolake based, then you made a bad choice since suspend/resume will be broken, built-in audio won't work, and there's no UEFI firmware support for it.

I mistyped the model. It's an HP 11-ae051wm x360: this is what I bought, also see here, and here

I wasn't able to find the board name. How do I do that? The CPU is an Apollolake though, at least that's what I see under Code Name. It's disheartening to see that I've made a bad choice. But thank you for pointing it out.

>it doesn't exist (with Linux support). You can have a Braswell model with 4GB/32GB/quad-core Celeron-N which will be fully functional under some distros, or a 2015 Broadwell model with an upgradeable SSD.

I see what you're saying. I was hoping I could find a 64GB model, as I'm looking to keep the system pretty tame, but given that the new Chromebook Models apparently don't offer the 64GB model and that I'll have to upgrade the SSD instead has me thinking twice.

>not by me, I'm the guy telling you that your approach will lead to frustration and disappointment. If you want a dedicated Linux device, a newer Chromebook is a terrible choice. Some older ones aren't bad choices. But trying to do it without running the proper firmware is silly -- there's significant downsides, not the least of which is losing the ability to boot your OS when the battery is drained.

I totally understand. I was never aware of the battery drain issue. Seems like a huge misstep on the manufacturers part. Thank you for all your help so far. I've taken a look at your list of supported devices. I'll consider going down that route instead and will return the device that I have coming.

Finally - I do want to ask you, with your firmware, it will be possible to:

  1. Overwrite ChromeOS with a alternative Linux distro (Ubuntu 18, is what I plan on using - unless you recommend something different).
  2. Bypass the bootloader, without having to remove the write screw and boot directly into Linux
  3. And this will be the most proper method to date? Is that what I am hearing from you?

    Thanks again.

I’ve been using my Chromebook 3 (XE500C13-K04US) as a personal laptop and doing some coding on it via Termux. So far I’ve been really impressed.

I picked it up new (not refurbished) on amazon for $169. I used camelcamelcamel to get an alert for when the price dropped: https://camelcamelcamel.com/Samsung-Chromebook-11-6-16GB-XE500C13-K04US/product/B01N5P6TJW?active=summary

My work laptop is a MacBook Pro retina, so clearly it’s not going to compare to anything like that. But for the price I’ve been quite impressed. Screen is ok, viewing angle isn’t great. No complaints about the keyboard. Supposedly the keyboard is water resistant (but I haven’t tested that 😛). The trackpad click is on the clunky side. None of that is a distraction for day-to-day use though.

What’s your use case? I bet there are tons of chromebooks that are better, not many that are useable and cheaper I guess.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-EE-PW700BWEGUJ-Multiport-Adapter/dp/B01DN09RYI/

It's on the pricey side, but I'm actually using this Samsung adapter for my Asus C302. Great for USB A and for HDMI. Both work like a charm.

u/Scottap · 1 pointr/chromeos

I actually think your best bet would be an USB drive. They offer faster speeds at the same (or less) cost. If you think Samsung works best with Samsung products, I recommend you this paired up with this adapter

Why is it better? The SD card gives you 95MB/s (Lots of Android apps can't be sent to your SD Card (without rooting) because they are really slow, imagine that using an OS such as Ubuntu/Debian) and 128GB for $81.38. The USB drive + adapter gives you 128GB, 150MB/s and an adapter for other things other than your drive for $49.94.

If you think losing an USB slot is just too much, you can always buy this hub instead of the adapter. Total: $57.94

u/Gunderstorm · 1 pointr/chromeos

I just got this nailed down myself. At first, I followed Wirecutter's recommendation and bought the Satechi Multiport Adapter. It's a beautiful dongle, and it worked great for display, but my USB keyboard and wireless mouse plugged into the USB A ports would not work.

Yesterday I received the Samsung adapter that is made for TabPro S, which was recommended by Chrome Unboxed. Works perfectly, but only has one USB A. I'm waiting on a keyboard I ordered so both that and my mouse will connect to one Logitech Unifying Receiver.

I have an Acer 14 and I love it, good choice on that one. There really isn't that much advice to give, but for your external drive, I'd recommend one of these. It makes it easy to just keep in in the laptop 100% of the time without being annoying. And I did buy a mouse for my Chromebook, but I never use it because I found it to more of a hassle than it was worth, since you'd have this nice sleek laptop, and it would be really annoying to carry around a mouse with it.

ASUS C201 https://www.amazon.ca/Chromebook-11-6-Inch-Rockchip-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B00VUV0MG0/

Budget

Under ~$350 CAD

Performance & Use Case

Google spreadsheets, web browsing, youtube, netflix

Android Apps

I don't think I need anything right away off of Google Play Store

Type & Functionality

No need for tablet functionality. Decent display would be nice. No need for touchscreen. Would like something I can carry between rooms and type on my lap. Definitely not a desktop.

Build Quality

While I would like something that looks nice, I will take function and lower prices over looks.

Availability (Where are you From?)

I just ordered an Acer C720 as well. This is the case I ordered with it. It has good reviews and an extra pouch for your charging cable. Seems like it will fit in a book bag if need be and it has its own handles for just carrying the chromebook by itself.

The Asus C101PA has been good to me for the last year. It's the lightest Chromebook on the market with a usable keyboard (unless you count the Slate, which is heavier with the keyboard cover attached). I don't know about the S330's screen, but the C101PA's screen is plenty bright and the resolution is good enough for reddit and youtube. It's not super high DPI, but gets the job done.

It does. Stay clear of it. There are alternatives. I prefer the samsung mini drive myself, but there are other choices (leef, etc).

The sandisk ultra fit pulls a slightly higher voltage than the others, hence its heat problems. Sandisk redesigned it (and I'm not sure if I have any of the newer batch), but there still seems to be some concern amongst owners, judging by reviews.

So why risk it? Sandisk makes great regular-sized usb sticks, but steer clear of their mini version.

If you are interested in the HP Chromebook 14, you can get them on Amazon Warehouse Deals. I specifically bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/HP-14-q070nr-14-Inch-Chromebook-T-Mobile/dp/B00FGOTBQO/ref=sr_1_5?m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1404847871&sr=1-5

It was missing the SIM card, but Amazon refunded me 20% and T-Mobile shipped me a new one for free when I called them individually.

u/abattleofone · 1 pointr/chromeos

I'm sorry to hear. I got this one, and once in awhile WiFi will hiccup due to the USB 3.0 ports, but that is just the nature of USB 3.0. It looks like this is an updated version though from what I bought:
https://smile.amazon.com/AUKEY-Delivery-Charging-Chromebook-Pixelbook/dp/B072Q1SKZR/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1509845942&sr=1-3&keywords=aukey+usb+c+hub

I also lucked out and got it for $25.

u/HayesCooper19 · 1 pointr/chromeos

The Samsung Chromebook plus is nice, but it only has a microSD card slot and 2 USB-C ports so I don't think it would be a good fit for you. However, if you're interested in a well-made, convertible touchscreen Chromebook and can make do with microSD card slot, you can find manufacturer refurb Acer R13 Chromebooks for only $258 on Acer's website. All-aluminum design, 1080p touchscreen, USB 3.0, access to Android apps (in Beta Channel) and INSANE battery life.

You can also find even cheaper units that would offer a full SD slot and USB 3.0, but they wouldn't offer all the bells and whistles of the R13.

u/CustooFintel · 2 pointsr/chromeos

I have the AmazonBasics 11.6 inch soft case. It's nothing fancy, but it fits perfectly.

u/Anusman_ · 1 pointr/chromeos

I would worry about future-proofing, but my mom's 2gig hp chromebook still works fine for browsing. When I leave a task manager open to see memory usage, it definitely fills up fast, but the slowdown isn't too bad, and I don't feel the need to micromanage the number of tabs I have open. Still, I'd go for 4gigs if possible. Maybe try looking used on swappa or ebay?

Here's an 11" HP chromebook (11-v010nr) with 4 gigs of ram for under 200. But personally I wouldn't get anything smaller than 12.5"--11.6 was too cramped for me.

u/scottie888 · 1 pointr/chromeos

If it were me, I'd borrow, beg or steal an extra $100 & get this Acer Spin 13. Its has the i5 processor, 8gb ram, 3:2 aspect ratio, ..all the good stuff plus a Wacom pen for note taking/drawing.

Other than the Pixelbook, I'd say this is the best chromebook on the market.

Btw I have the HP x360 14 & I like it alot. But If I had a choice, I'd take the Acer anytime anyday.

This is the one I bought. Could you double check to see if I ordered the correct model please? Much appreciated. Now I can use my type c 65w charger to charge my phone, switch and the Chromebook, don't have to carry extra charger anymore.

I'm using this amCase sleeve. It has a pouch on the front that holds the power brick and a mouse nicely. The handle is nice to have too.

Title | Gold Acer Chromebook 14 Review
Description | Buy Now from Amazon: http://amzn.to/2iVtP6o (affiliate) Back in May of this year, we put out a video review of the Acer Chromebook 14 when it was released. Clad in aluminum with a Full HD display, the device was impressive at an even more impressive price. Fast forward 7 months, and we now have the gold version of the Acer Chromebook 14 in the office. And we also have Chrome OS 55 running on it. And the combo makes for a much-improved experience versus what I experienced back in the spring....

I got this a month ago and couldn't be happier for the price. It has a higher benchmark score than most other chromebooks in the market. It's zippy, lasts about 8-10 hours and charges through USB-C. Build quality is good (lenovo thinkbook) and the keyboard is one of the better one's I've tried.

The screen and speakers aren't the greatest, but they're plenty good for under $200. It also doesn't have an HDMI slot.

I've got this and I love it. Affordable and professional looking.

u/mrzoink · 5 pointsr/chromeos

I got this one which I found fits the C720 perfectly. It's a simple sleeve, so doesn't have any pocket for accessories.

I've bought this one to use it with my Chromebook Pro and so far it has been working perfectly:

https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Delivery-Throughput-MacBook-Chromebook/dp/B072Q1SKZR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499536771&sr=8-1&keywords=aukey+usb+c+hub

Power source, wireless mouse, Corsair K65 keyboard and external HDD are all connected to this hub.

Get one of the two below, and update the firmware from their site:

Would you mind sharing a link of which displayport adapter you went with?

I am looking for a dock/hub that will do dual HDMI, Ethernet, and still have USB-C power through. Currently looking at this cable matters hub but seems like it may not support two separate extended monitors on chromebook.

Also, give passing consideration to the Asus Flip C101:

https://www.amazon.com/Chromebook-C101PA-DB02-Quad-Core-Lightweight-Touchscreen/dp/B075KFFMZS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1539625121&sr=8-2&keywords=asus%2Bc101&th=1

10" screen so as big as the iPad. But you also get a decent keyboard and trackpad, and it functions as a tablet as well. Great for media consumption and mild productivity, such as emails and draft writing. Only drawback, its base model only has 16GB eMMC. It's barely enough. There is a 32GB model but that's a touch over your 300 budget.

Sounds like you're describing the Acer R13

I have this:
Spigen Samsung Chromebook Plus Screen Protector Tempered Glass / 9H Hardness for Samsung Chromebook Plus 2017 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X9XGT88/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_ksriG6Um6kmKj

And this:

Both are great.

Yeah, I bought one of these and just leave it plugged in.

You might want to look at the Acer Chromebook Spin 13. It's currently $599 on amazon. It has the 8th Gen Core i5 8250U 8 GB Ram and 128 GB eMMC.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 13 is probably the closest thing to what you are looking for. It's not cheap but the specs are solid and it has occasionally been on sale for as little as $699.

Get this usb-c dongle and connect it to your chromebook plus, it has a HDMI out port on it that works flawlessly ....i use it all the time to connect chromebook plus to television and for usb flash drives http://imgur.com/lUEGTSy ....no need for chromecast......https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-EE-PW700BWEGUJ-Tabpro-Multi-Port-Adapter/dp/B01DN09RYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495852750&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+galaxy+tabpro+s+adapter

u/jofnj · 1 pointr/chromeos

Off the top of my head, I can only think of the Acer Chromebook R13 (Amazon) coming close. Though it's over the budget.

Edit: added link

u/bailout911 · 1 pointr/chromeos

This is the model you're looking for. Unfortunately, it's discontinued, so the few that are left are going up in price.

I don't think any of the new HP14's (with the Tegra processor) have 4G LTE built-in, but their website is so lacking in technical details, it's hard to know for sure.

u/JWGhetto · 10 pointsr/chromeos

can your laptop charge a tablet alone? If yes I don't see why this shouldn't be possible. this should do the trick. Onnect the dongle to your tablet, and the passthrough power cable to your latop and the phone to any of the other ones. I don't think your phone would charge very quickly though

u/kommisar6 · 2 pointsr/chromeos

To go full linux using a chromebook you want one of the haswell celerons and 4GB of ram. This means an acer c720, HP chromebook 14 or Dell Chromebook 11. I believe these are all older models not currently in production so get them while you can. I don't think you can get a 720 with 4GB of ram any more. The only HP chromebook 14 I could find with 4GB of ram also had 4G which means its a little more expensive.

Asus C101, $250 new / $212 warehouse deals: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075KFFMZS

None of the current 11" models in that price range impress me much, whereas the only fault with the Asus is the 16GB internal storage

u/seluho · 1 pointr/chromeos

I bought this screen protector and it works on my x2. The chromebook plus v1 and pro use the same panel but the bezels are smaller so it fits insidethe bezels on the hp.

I love the HP 14-q070nr. (the newer version)

http://www.amazon.com/HP-14-q070nr-14-Inch-Chromebook-T-Mobile/dp/B00FGOTBQO

You can find refurb'd models on sale once in a while for like <$300.

I've had one for almost a year now, no complaints. There are a lot of haters of the HP14 /r/chromeos .

u/Chrisp1135 · 1 pointr/chromeos

It's an old HP Chromebook 14 on T-mobile. Not sure of the radio. I also tried two different t-mobile sim cards. Here is a link to the model. https://www.amazon.com/HP-14-q070nr-14-Inch-Chromebook-T-Mobile/dp/B00FGOTBQO

I got a 128GB Samsung Fit USB to compensate for the small SSD. No complaints so far.

u/REparsed · 2 pointsr/chromeos

I've been using the Samsung 128GB for a few months with zero problems and no overheating.
