You should check out Fugoo, some of my close friends run the company.
http://www.amazon.com/FUGOO-Style-Bluetooth-Built-Speakerphone/dp/B00IBJ3MWU

They are on sale for $139 -$159. Usually $200 - $230. These things are really, really sweet. We went up to Vail Colorado for the Go Pro Games with them and did a "working vacation". The crowd there really loved it.

Some specs and things of note:

-- Shock proof, water proof, dust proof. We were dunking them in water all trip while playing at the booths, ran the tough over with a truck because some customers didn't believe us that it could handle it, and one late night threw it off a 3 story balcony (not recommended) but it still worked perfect.

-- They do the guts different to beat the competition. 6 Speakers. 2 on each side, and 1 on each end. This gives it full 360 sound. Nice for when you want it in the middle of a room, or you can throw it up against a wall and the sound rebounds off the wall.

-- 40 Hours of battery life, I believe this is at half volume.

-- They seem to update software regularly. I was gifted one as they are friends, but he is always reminding me to update the software. It has changed the quality and loudness of music over time. They seem to plan on keeping this up so the product gets better over time.

-- They have many accessories; strap mount to strap around paddle boards/surf boards/kayak/tree/etc. Bike mount to mount on bike or any other pole. Clip mount for hooking to backpack, rope, etc.

You should be able to get them for $139-$159 as he told me they would be doing a sale the other day, if not let me know and I will talk to them. The actual core is the same, so base your purchase on the exterior. The tough can be run over by a truck, the style can not... but the style is still water/shock/dust proof.

I looked at that one and compared with a 42 inch LG on amazon that's like 20$ more. Ultimately I'm leaning towards the LG for following reasons.

  1. LG has lower input lag (good for gaming)
  2. LG is direct lit LED vs Samsung being edge lit. This can be preference but I've read people favor direct lit LED. Form vs function. Edge lit can give you thinner bezels and profile while direct may provide more even lighting.
  3. LG is a 2014 model vs Samsung is 2012

Both have 4.5 reviews on amazon but for the extra few bucks I think I will ultimately end up with the LG if I see no good cyber Monday deals today.

I haven't personally used it yet, but the HP Stream is getting a lot of good reviews / press and comes in at $200.

$99 Sennheiser HD 598's. List price is 315 but you can almost always get them for about 250. 216 right now.

If you're looking to use them in an office/travel environment the open-back design on the HD 598's are not ideal. The Sennheiser HD-380's are available at $115 so far today (200 list, 150 normal, 115 on Friday) - closed back (less sound leakage), more conservative styling, and near universal praise.

This is how I got interested in electrical engineering.

The problem was I only realized years later that a lot of EE is programming and not actual circuits and circuit design. I love circuits and stuff but hate programming so take that for what it's worth.

Switched to chemical engineering sophomore year of college and never looked back.
