Unsurprisingly, everyone is recommending m50xs... you should checkout the headphones subreddit, the people over there know their shit. The Sony's and msr7s you were asking about are on different sides of the sound signature spectrum. The msr7s are pretty punchy and bright, while the Mdr-1s are more warm and laid back sounding. I would say go for something like the beyerdynamic Dt770 they really are awesome for electronic music, and they're pretty affordable as well. Also if you want to spend a little more the focal spirit pro is a great choice.

Mine is pretty much a knock off swiss army knife. Jack of all trades but master of none. I bought this one because I had a Best Buy gift card and I'm new to the vinyl scene. It was $120 bucks but for around that price you can get a device that only plays records but does it really well. example vs
the player I have
EDIT: added link to my player
It's very satisfying to learn though! I've been DJing for six years, and three years for weddings/birthdays/clubs and it's a really fun 'skill' to learn.
If you ever want to give it a try, you can use VirtualDJ (which from my experience is one of the most user-friendly) and a cheap DJ controller (e.g. my original controller).
It allows you to really appreciate how important timing is when mixing tracks together, and it's really fun to do in your spare time. I really regret turning my hobby into a job which is why I quit DJing events, but it's very fun regardless :)
for context this was my mix from a while ago of joel's stuff
I bought a pair last year as i was really excited about them, but i ended up returning them pretty quickly. they didn't feel that comfortable and the cups are tiny. i'd personally avoid them and get a pair of high end headphones for the same price. :)
I bought these: and as a producer they have been amazing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/electronics/dp/B0016MNAAI
The two ways I know of to get a good spherical head are either using 1. a hamster ball or 2. acrylic globes.
I made one with a hamster ball several years ago and the material was relatively easy to work with when using a dremel for cutting the holes. The problem with the hamster ball is that when you cut the neck hole you weaken the entire structure of the thing and allows it to flex alot which makes it feel like a shitty end result. Imagine the black line being an exaggerated cut line for the neck hole and you will see what I mean. Another issue with the hamster ball is that I have only seen 13 in variants and the official dimensions of the mau5 head calls for a 14in sphere.
The best quality diy mau5 heads I have seen usually use the acrylic globes. They wont have the same issue the hamster ball, as it shouldnt be able to flex as much when you remove material. The issue you could have with using acrylic is that acrylic can easily crack if you are not careful depending on the thickness of the material (thicker is less likely to crack). If you go with this route make sure you get have a high speed dremel and some THIN cutting bits. In the end if you pull it off you will probably be most satisfied if you go this route and is about the same price as a hamster ball and should last you alot longer. Just make sure you give yourself at least a couple months so you can work on it here and there because it will take longer than you expect it to your first time crafting one.
You may want to check out /r/mau5head as well.
4x4=12 was released on vinyl and can still be found today. albums before it weren't released on vinyl because the demand wasnt there yet for vinyl (pre-2010), though many singles were released on vinyl.
>album title goes here< was planned for a box set release but it never happened, as far as we know. ive never seen any photos from anybody who owns it, its not on discogs, and it disappared from the store almost as quickly as it was announced.
while(1<2) was also released and can still be found on the official deadmau5 shop
personally, im still holding out hope that we see Random Album Title on vinyl some day, but that would be up to Ultra and i sincerely doubt it would come any time soon. if they were smart they would have capitalized on that a few years ago.
Hampster ball will work, but it wont be smooth looking. If you can wait on shipping, here's the globe I bought:

I originally bought it from 1000bulbs for like 16 bucks but they just recently jacked it up to over $50! a piece, guess they caught on to all the orders lol.
I made the same comment on your post on /r/electronicmusic and I figure it would be good to post it here too:
It might be useful for some to know that the original audio track contained within the DVD was in ac3 (dolby digital format), a lossy audio format. This would make your mp3's a lossy to lossy transcode so you will experience degraded audio quality.
Also we should also include a purchase link to support the artist we clearly all are fans of :)

Yeah, look at other speaker pillows on the market and they are all nearly built to be more of a sleeping companion than an external speaker set for loud music. Most of them are purchased to help treat tinnitus. I think these are purposely built that way.
Although I cannot say the same for the deadmau5 earbuds...

FYI, if you want a physical copy and you get the album off of amazon it's a bit cheaper. At least it was like $5 cheaper for me.
I bought mine from Amazon, and they've got a good variety of colors.
still on amazon
but remember his toronto DVD was delayed for a month, so theres no guarantee sept 25 is the date.
but he is also playing iheartradio in las vegas sept 22 (some publicity before the release?), and XS las vegas sept 23 (album release party?). so we'll just have to wait and see. :D
The full album is now out! Downloaded into my iTunes earlier (had it on pre-order). iTunes link as above. Physical CD on Amazon priced @ 16.99: http://amzn.to/1vv61GU - am sure it'll be on the other platforms too now
These are what I have. They're speakers specifically designed to reproduce the music as recorded. Also, just plugging them in isn't enough, you have to pay attention to their distance from your ears, and their angle from center. The room that you're listening in has a large effect as well. My rooms are relatively square with hardwood floors and awful to listen in bare. Put a king size bed in to absorb reflections and it's SO much better.
Just released this week. Oh yeah!
I'm so excited to see him in Toronto. It's going to be an experience.
Casually interested in this, seems it's hard to find a hamster ball at 14", but google searches keep leading me to one of these. Seems a bit pricier than expected, but cheaper than the too-small hamster balls. Thoughts/experiences?
Start w/ this 14 inch acrylic globe. You'll need a dremel to cut out the mouth and neck. Grab some stretchy fabric from a fabric store and a hot glue gun. It looks much better than painting it. For the mouth, get something like this. You can get some panty hose to put over the mesh so it has the right shape and color that your want. That should get you started.
Same brand I think, but I think its suppose to be a giant indestructible dog toy.

All you had to do was google it.
I made one but I decided that I was going to go balls deep and try one of the most difficult designed mau5 heads out, the disco head. Long story short it cost me about ~$300 to make, not counting 2 others that I messed up on.
Materials:
-Head
-Eyes
-Head Mount
-Mouth Mesh
-[2] Led lights for coloring the eyes
-Superglue for mouth
-[2] Plastic glue for Headmount
-About [6-10] Rhine stone glue bottles
-[3] bags of Rhinestones
-Foam Ear material ---> With Ear template
-Washers -[4] Threaded Rods -Wing nuts
-Chrome Spray paint
-Lastly, Insulation Strips [White]
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Stuff I had: Dremel, stubbornness, no life, sharpies, too much free time.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Use any of the above tuts to get the general idea.
The template for the ears, (mine are huge).
Once the mouth is cut and you accounted for the eyes (pop the eyes in half and trace them on.)
Spray paint the whole head chrome, in light mist layers. The more layers the smoother the finish.
Once that's done, enjoy the 90+ hours of putting each rhinestone on, one by one.
Profit.
