Cyclonic dust collectors are very much worth the trouble. They save you an enormous amount of headache, and keep your vacuum's suction high enough to carry away the chips you're making.

The one you linked looks like it would trap medium sized particles pretty well, but with mostly straight sides, and the funnel down at the bottom, the vortex might not get going fast enough to spin smaller particles (like MDF fines) out of the airstream.

If you're not married to the idea of DIY, the Dust Deputy is an awesome option which works very well to clean your airstream.

Good Luck!

Looks good, but I'm curious why you're elevating the Y axis, I'm thinking it's because you're using the v slot wheels, right? If so, and if you do want to upgrade to linear bearings, I think it might be more rigid to have them mounted to the base. I used these and cut them in half with an angle grinder, but you could get shorter ones. They're cheaper than the flat style linear bearing but work great.

Though it seems like you're trying to keep the cost down, so might not be worth it, but I'm really happy with them. I used 3 bearings per side for the Y axis (dual Y axis like you) have and used 2 parallel ones for the X axis with 3 bearings per rail, but mine is 1m x 1m and has a kinda heavy Z axis, and I just decided to go big

Cheapest I’ve seen:
https://www.amazon.com/MYSWEETY-Control-Engraving-16x10x4-5cm-110V-240V/dp/B01NBVXO0V/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1503638904&sr=8-5&keywords=cnc+router

Maybe you could find one used, since I can’t imagine anyone finding it useful enough to keep.

You can get sets of carbide PCB drills with a 1/8" shank far cheaper than a decent micro chuck.
