Features:
I don't own the bike, but here's the manual. Air compressor the gunk out of the recess before removing the spark plug. Bikes typically come with the spark plug tool in the original tool kit. If you didn't get one with it, ask a moto friend if they have one or head to a moto wrecker or bike shop and see if they have one spare, they ususally looks like this. Otherwise, buy the new spark plugs, then buy the matching spark plug socket.
Nelson Rigg make about the best saddle bags I have encountered (as far as ease of use and affordability) They are weather resistant, cheap, and you can adjust them by modifying/adjusting the straps.

I dented and banged the crap out of mine on this ride. Seems like I kept finding the perfect rhythms in the Boulder fields to bottom out my suspension on top of a rock. I even bent some of the mounting brackets on the bike. Sheesh!

Pretty sure it was this one
MadDog GearComfort Ride Seat Protector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JMK7N8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fT3aBbCCZ3T8N
ProCycle seat. The non gel one. I had heard stories about the gel getting hot in the sun.
Also a windscreen. The one I have is similar to this one: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/mra-roadshield-universal-windshield anything to get the wind off your chest.
I also purchased some sheep skin to put between me and the seat. Improves airflow and cushion. Like this one: Genuine Bowron Sheepskin Rug Single Pelt Ivory White Fur, Approx. 2ft x 3ft https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043JJWYY/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_m83ozbTHSV37F
These three things made my trip to Phoenix, AZ from Portland, OR much more comfy. Especially in 115 degrees F.
Most references to using the auxiliary "Hitachi" terminal seemed outdated with bad links. Brown wire is positive and it turns on with the lights.

Hope this is helpful!
Now to find a suitable mount
If you haven't actually bought the carrier yet you might try a front wheel tow dolly. You have to disconnect the chain, but once that is done they tow very easily.
Progrip 714, easily the best cheap upgrade you can get.
I've been running foot pegs similar to these for three years now.
I dislike the cheap LED lights for visibility. I mean....why bother having indicators at all if they're not visible? Each time I go looking for new indicators I'm like....meh the stock ones do their job just fine.

So, I'm in the middle of trying to make a street/scrambler-style bike out of the DR650. So far, I've got the headlight w/ brackets and a flyscreen from National Cycle. Everything's been bolt-on, no modifications necessary. Cost was about $200, flyscreen cost the most at $140.
You honestly don't even need the flyscreen, I believe the DR has that pouch behind the headlight to hold the electrics (http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Suzuki/Motorcycle/2015/DR650SEL5/WIRING+HARNESS+%28DR650SEL5+E03%29/parts.html) #3.

Not shorai tender, yuasa. Yeah every O'Reillys, Napa etc has deka under their own label. Lithium seem finicky and don't have the cca's

Why not something like this? It goes on a normal ratchet between the socket and the wrench. Could probably make it work with the right sized spanner as well.

I bought the sargent one and it is great. It bolts right where the old one does and it will work with most aftermarket tanks also(I believe) Before I changed it I rode ~6 hours one day (off and on riding) and I had intense discomfort. I rode it with the sargent ~9 hours straight and only had mild discomfort in my butt.

With spokes custom ordered from Buchanan's be able to lace up to my stock DR 650 hub. Or do hubs need to be drilled to order like procycle
You might want to look into a hitch tightener or other anti-rattle device.

I have the hi-viz nelson riggs dry bags that are like 100 bucks on Amazon. They are a bit deformed from mistreating them, but they keep everything dry and stay put pretty well. I also carry everything I need to dismantle my entire bike and spare parts everywhere. I am over-packed 99% of the time. They have held up to falls and everything. The saddle bags are about twice as big as the crash bars they sit on. So the top part is supported but the bottom sags in and deforms the rigid back of the bag. It works fine, it just looks a little sloppy. I also have the this box mounted on this rack that I am very pleased with for the price. The box is cheap, but it is easily removed, locks (even though its just plastic and can be easily broken into probably), and it doesn't allow any water in even in the heaviest of rain. I have put these to the test, and they have held up for 8000 punishing miles so far.
As for the fuel problem, do you have the stock tank? I use MSR fuel containers that are specifically designed to handle pressurized fuels. I took a couple with me on the TAT, but never needed them with a 5.3 gallon tank. I definitely would have needed one with the stock tank though as I did a span of 180ish miles between fuel stops. So they mostly just get used to catch gas when I take the tank off or do carb work. I would say keep them outside of your duffels if you can just for the sake of everything not smelling like gas.
The most important part of the system is how you attach it. You don't want things moving around because it will destroy them. Even sand in your tent fly bouncing around on the back of the bike will ruin it as I learned when suddenly my tent was no longer water tight after 3000 miles on the back of the bike.
