>Mostly because I expected to see the full US release of DQ8 on mobile, not a shoddy port.
I knew it was going to be garbage as soon as I saw the trailer. Don't understand why anyone was surprised.
>I'm hoping that if we ever get a PC version of DQ8 (PS2 port) that some enterprising folk can hack in the voice acting and better soundtrack.
Just get the disc, pop it in, and play it on a PS2 emulator. It'll be better than whatever hackjob SE would provide.

Play Asia occasionally sees restock of it as well, though with the upcoming 3DS release (which won't be as high quality as the PS2 version - I've already done visual comparisons) SE has probably discontinued supply, at least temporarily.
In all honesty I'm certain they intentionally shortchanged the iOS/Android port so impulsive people would rush to buy it (mainly Japan due to DQmania), then 3DS version is superior to that so those people buy it again on 3DS. A/V will remain superior on NA PS2 version. In five years or so we'll see a remaster of the 3DS version on another system with all its new features and likely A/V matching the NA PS2 version.
It's all business. How many times can they get you to buy the same thing when the best was already done years ago?
Here's what I'd say:
My favorite DQ game is probably still part 3, and of the NES and gbc versions I've played I liked the gbc version better. This can only be played on a Gameboy Color or Gameboy Advance / SP though (backwards compatible w/ the gbc cart). You can also play the gbc remakes of DQ1 & 2 on this, though the games have been slightly "dumbed down" and made easier. For part 2 this is probably a good thing since the NES version is hard as hell. If you do decide to grab a GBA SP I would highly recommend looking into an AGS-101 model which has a backlight and is superior to the normal model. The graphics really pop!
Here is the 101 model that I bought from Amazon (my review is even on here). The Onyx / black one wasn't normally available like this, it's a regular SP shell with the guts of a 101. That being said, it looks and plays perfectly:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Game-Boy-Advance-AGS-101-Black/dp/B00820R20Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542978398&sr=8-3&keywords=gameboy+advance+sp+ags+101
The other 101 that I've seen for sale before is a light blue metallic color which I didn't like as much.
The games you can play on the DS are many: 4, 5, 6, & 9. This is the only way to play part 9 that I know of. Like part 3 you can form a team of different classes however you want which is something that I personally like. The class system is really well-done. Also the post game is incredible and virtually endless. My save file on DQ9 is approx. 600 hours.
Now all of these DS games can of course be played on a 3DS, which opens you up to the remakes of DQ7 and DQ8. DQ7 is beloved by many here, but I never cared for it (though I gave it LOTS of plays because I really wanted to.) The 3DS version of 8 however I'd consider to be the definitive version and it's excellent.
I'm not 100% sure if they are still compatible with the 3DS, but regardless I would recommend against it if you can help it. The AR codes floating around for these are a little wonky and not well documented/tested. There's one that unlocks all quests, but in the process unlocks the unfinished quests that while not in the main game are still on the cartridge. These quests are buggy and can crash the game. The best part? If you do unlock these glitched quests and you play multiplayer with someone, they'll unlock them too, potentially rendering their game unplayable as well. In short it's like an unintentional game virus. As for the other two aspects of the DLC, they're less dramatic, but I'm still unsure which codes you'd need.
Considering the price would be the same if not cheaper, I highly recommend you go the savefile editing way. It's safe and easy; guaranteed. :)
The links to the two products on Amazon.co.jp are right here:
For the Switch: https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B07SW64B2D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For the Slime Controller: https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B07SY9KBH9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now if you want the best price you're going to want to order direct from Amazon.co.jp (not through a third party seller) but as of now the Switch is entirely sold out. In order to avoid this download the browser Extension called 'Keepa' ( https://keepa.com ), it helps you track prices and stock availability so you can be alerted to when it comes in stock. Because they're so popular they go out of stock pretty much as soon as they come in. So what I did is also download an Auto-refresh plugin for Chrome and leave the two pages open and refreshing every 10 seconds to see when they come in stock by Amazon, it was a long process, but when one came in stock I was finally able to snag it. Who knows, maybe you can too. I hope this guide is helpful.

FYI - Amazon.co.jp will be in Japanese when you first use it but you can change the language to English, you will also need to create an account for this other version of Amazon if you don't have one already, you can use the same email address you use for Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com
Remembering the Kanji by James Heisig is a really good place to start. Best of luck!
You can use something like this to rip the save from the DS cart, and then use the famous DQIX Save Editor to just add all the DLC to the save.
Lol. I recommend you get an Xbox Controller. I got this one: r/https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LPNKGGI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It has a cable included but you can use it wireless as well (Bluetooth). If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth you can get a Bluetooth USb dongle for like $10 or cheaper I believe.
Same--I actually gave it up some months ago. Finally got fed up with them yanking players around. So I just came back to check out the last stretch. It's announced they'll be migrating it to some sort of offline version, but we still don't know what that entails. Like right now they have nearly every quest accessible--all the challenge bosses, all the character events with no expiration and they only cost like 5 stamina per play instead of the 30~60. They closed up the gems shop sometime in September I think, so who knows if the offline game will have a gacha attached or if it'll be one-time purchase like they did with Dimensions 2.
https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Monster-Figure-Square-Enix/dp/B005EOFJGW/ Those are the ones I'm picking up. They're all supposed to be to scale with the weapons line.
They also have Erik from XI on preorder now, but I didn't see an exclusive so I'm not as concerned about reserving him.
If anyone wants some and don't want to travel to Japan. Most are roughly $30 with the bigger ones being $60 or so:
Metal Slime
Metal Babble
Metal King Slime
Platinum Medal - Silver
Platinum Medal - Gold
Rogue Knight
Babble
Emperor Slime
King Slime
Slime Knight
Metal Slime Stack
YES! I did debate that. Currently I have saved to buy in addition to the missing games mentioned;
PlayStation Vita Dragon Quest Metal Slime Edition ("Dragon Quest Builders" included) Japan Import https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017VMSID0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_j5mRCbSYRJEMJ
Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D Special Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007F8IZXE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_D5mRCb0M01H38
Here's me having a ps4 but budget-restraints, so I'll still have to wait to get a better deal.

If only Squenix would put all this stuff up on Steam..

Edit: it's discounted to 28 pounds on amazon uk: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Quest-Builders-2-PS4/dp/B07NSQH1B9/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=builders+2&qid=1568795150&s=gateway&sr=8-1
I would suggest getting a Clear Duraflexi cover for your shiny 3DS.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NFCCOMW/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_18?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AK0GQ5PQ7UDXE
I got that one, and it's kept my beautiful Monster Hunter 4U 3DS pristine.
>I would also love to see 'Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Encyclopedia of Monsters Illustration Book' localized
Probably not localized in the language you want, but it's definitely getting localized :p
I use this Corsair Obsidian Mini-ITX case: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HFRTF5W/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It fits a full-sized graphics card and power supply in a case that's a size my wife and I can tolerate in our living room (actually fits behind the TV in a built-in shelf so we never even see it). Never had a problem with heat or fan noise and I've still got some overhead in the power supply and more space to add fans if it ever becomes necessary. I highly recommend it!
Here's a link to buy it on amazon Japan, its easy to make an account if you haven't already 😊
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00CB9YFUE/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?keywords=%E3%83%89%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B4%E3%83%B3%E3%82%AF%E3%82%A8%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%83%A1%E3%82%BF%E3%83%AA%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF&qid=1572285975&sprefix=dragon+quest+met&sr=8-9
But I really love Low-poly 3d...
There's something about it that just hits all the right points for me.
Maybe it's seeing something new while still having the nostalgic aesthetic of the past?
I'd like to blame the PS1, tbh
It's sort of a weird situation. It's not officially announced for North America (or Europe) at this time, but during the Switch event they never specified "in Japan" like they did for X and XI.
It's not listed on Nintendo's Switch product slate for the West, nor has Square Enix said anything about it outside of Japan. Yet, despite all of that, some retailers do still have pre-order links for it:
Best Buy
Amazon
My guess is that it is in fact coming (the work is basically done, so there's really no reason not to) but Square Enix is (understandably) trying to stay silent on the matter until Heroes 2's PS4 launch is out of the way.
You can pre-order Dragon Quest Heroes I + II on Amazon already.
