Ha! Thanks for creating a subreddit dedicated to my very own series, PF. That's gotta count as a life achievement, right? (Nevermind that the subreddit is empty.) Seriously, though, thanks for the kind words.

I'm a Dresden fan myself but brand new to this subreddit, so looking forward to discussions. (Although, BLASPHEMY, I have yet to read the last 2 books of that series. I'm scared to go too far here for fear of spoilers.) On the flip side, I have a Dresden cooperative card game kickstarter reward coming my way soon, so I can pretend I still belong.

Oh, I'll actually be in an anthology with Jim Butcher releasing later this year too, so that's cool.

About my Black Magic Outlaw series, if anyone's interested: Cisco's a shadow charmer fighting on the streets of Miami. I like to keep things dark and kick my protagonist when he's down. Each novel stands alone as far as having a satisfying story, but the opening story arc was conceived to span 5 books. 4 of those books are out now and the last will be available in about a month, so there's a lot of good story for readers to plow through.

Also, for the first time ever, Book 1 (DEAD MAN) is available for free! (on Amazon and other sites)

I'll keep an eye out for discussion on /r/BlackMagicOutlaw and respond if readers want to interact, but I'm just happy someone thought to create the sub. If anyone wants more info on me, the best first stop is DominoFinn.com. Cheers!

I just started Monster Hunters by Larry Correia--I'm less than halfway, so it's too early to give it a complete review, but so far, I'm enjoying it--not perfect, but a fun first in a series. It definitely reminds me of DF, but the protagonist is a normal human. Lots of monster fights. It's nice and long, and if you have a Kindle or Kindle app, you can get it free: http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Hunter-International-Hunters-Book-ebook/dp/B00APAH7PQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452481390&sr=8-1&keywords=monster+hunters+correia

For general fantasy I've enjoyed Gentleman Bastard, The Kingkiller Chronicle, and The Broken Empire. I listen to Kingkiller Chronicle fairly often due to the amount of commuting I do where I live.

For more urban/fantasy maybe try Lives of Tao, Iron Druid Chronicles, or anything by Neil Gaiman. The anniversary edition of American Gods was really excellent on audio-book. Not sure if the others have audio editions or not.

I've also really enjoyed stuff by Drew Hayes (a webnovelist). His banner series is SuperPowereds. But I though NPCs was a great take on an old fantasy trope. Neither come in audio formats unfortunately.

Good luck.

I've looked over the rules of this subreddit to make sure this isn't looked down upon, and since you asked: I'd recommend Seven Devils - the first book in my urban fantasy series. It's my own take on the genre, set in South Texas and exploring the superstitions and organized crime of the area.
The Dresden Files was certainly a big inspiration and I think any fan of it would enjoy my attempt. Hope you check it out!

If you're looking for something really dark I'd suggest Harry Connolly's Twenty Palaces series. The first one is Child of Fire. I really enjoyed it and Jim Butcher has also recommend it. Keep in mind there are only 3 books and 1 prequel that Harry self published due to his publisher dropping him.

If you're looking for something stupid and funny I recommend John Dies at the End and it's sequel This Books is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch It. I have to admit I'm a bit biased on those though, I won a free signed copy of TBiFoS by participating in an alternate reality game around the time of its release.

The only story that isn't available as an audiobook is "AAAA Wizardy".

Side Jobs

> Here, together for the first time, are the shorter works of #1 New York Times bestselling author Jim Butcher–a compendium of cases that Harry and his cadre of allies managed to close in record time. The tales range from the deadly serious to the absurdly hilarious. Also included is a new, never-before-published novella that takes place after the cliff-hanger ending of the new April 2010 hardcover, Changes. This is a must-have collection for every devoted Harry Dresden fan as well as a perfect introduction for readers ready to meet Chicago’s only professional wizard.

Working for Bigfoot

> Chicago wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden is used to mysterious clients with long hair and legs up to here. But when it turns out the long hair covers every square inch of his latest client's body, and the legs contribute to a nine-foot height, even the redoubtable detective realizes he's treading new ground. Strength of a River in His Shoulders is one of the legendary forest people, a Bigfoot, and he has a problem that only Harry can solve. His son Irwin is a scion, the child of a supernatural creature and a human. He's a good kid, but the extraordinary strength of his magical aura has a way of attracting trouble.

The other short stories are available on audible in short story anthologies:

Curses

> from The Naked City, edited by Ellen Datlow
> Takes place between Small Favor and Turn Coat.

AAAA Wizardy
> a Short Story for the Dresden File RPG, is only available in "Our World".

Even Hand

> Gentleman Johnnie Marcone clashes with a rival supernatural power. Told from Marcone’s point of view.
> Takes place between Turn Coat and Changes.

Bombshells

> Molly-POV novella from Dangerous Women, edited by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Duzois.
> Molly teams up with Justine and Andi to thwart a Fomor plot.
> Takes place between Ghost Story and Cold Days.

Jury Duty

> short story for Unbound, edited by Shawn Speakman.
> Harry endures Jury Duty.
> Released December 1st, 2015.

That's everything. The next short story is due to be published in November 2016, and there's another short story in the works with release date TBA.

> But at least have enough class not to advertise that you did it.

Hey, Jim. Long time fan of the Dresden books; I usually use them as a case example of showing people what it's like for an author to improve over time, because I think it's very clear to the reader how consistently you get better as a writer from book to book (although you rely on the word 'literally' far too often for my taste). I understand your point of view on people sharing your books for free, but I cannot support your attitude that there is anything remotely shameful about it, any more than there is shame in lending or giving a book to a friend - it is simply a fact that a digital book can be given away without the giver no longer having it, which shouldn't have any impact on the morality in question.

Some of your pirates truly can't afford your books, and you should not consider them a loss of sales in any way. Many, like thefran has strongly implied he is, struggle with inadequate service - information in the digital age is always in competition with free, and sellers who do not realize this make poor decisions that cause piracy. theFran has straight-up admitted that he had to buy a bootleg because, for no good reason, he could not buy your product when it released, as it was delayed in his country. In the internet age, that is straight-up inexcusable. This is your publisher's fault, not yours, but you should understand that he was out to enjoy your work, not hurt you, and as a group, the people involved in selling him the book dropped the ball collectively.

If you're serious about wanting to sell more books to internet denizens, 1) make absolutely sure digital copies of your book release no later than the physical book does, 2) in every format used by a digital reader, 3) on widely accessible markets, 4) for a reasonable price (this means less than the physical copy; 5 dollars is about right). This shit, where the digital copy costs MORE than the paper copy, is just going to lose you sales. http://www.amazon.com/Storm-Front-Book-Dresden-Files/dp/0451457811

I realise you're the author, but you're big enough to tell your publishers to stop being idiots. Get on the phone with them and start making yourself more money and your internet readers happier.

I hope you enjoy! As a bonus, Jim Butcher wrote a Monster Hunter short story for an anthology.

The Mageborn series by Michael Manning is actually really good. The first was a bit rough around the edges but they keep getting better and better.

Marsters is narrating only the stories from Harry's POV. The full cast list is here! I don't know for sure if it's happened yet, but I expect it has, given that Jim had his recording session for "Even Hand" in early March. And I'm sure it was fine? :D

Is Bigfoot on campus the college One? That's the finale book in the trilogy. The easiest place to find it is on Amazon called working for bigfoot

Step 1: Purge the TV show from your memory.

Step 2: Pick up Storm Front and enjoy!

It's available in the Shadowed Souls anthology that Jim had a hand in editing.

u/Benjogias · 5 pointsr/dresdenfiles

The Big Foot short stories have in fact just been collected into an independent mini-volume called Working for Bigfoot - you can grab the Kindle version for just $6.99!

(And a big vote for listening to the audiobooks eventually - Marsters is Dresden! You may even be able to check a lot of them out from the library.)

Butcher also wrote a MHI story, which you can get here
