I'll upload pictures upon request.
Both of my recommendations are from the 40's, and neither are that obscure. But I really don't know of any obscure Christmas musicals, all my favorites are pretty famous. I'm mentioning these because I don't think they get as much attention as they should, and because TCM is the only channel that might play them (I could be wrong, but I don't remember them ever being on other stations).
Meet Me In St. Louis isn't really a Christmas movie, but it's a true classic and has some Christmas scenes. It's where the song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" came from, with Judy Garland singing.
Holiday Inn is a rather simple romance story, taking place on different holidays over a year. It's pretty dated with a number done in blackface, but I promise it's worth watching. This is where the song "White Christmas" came from, they based two movies off of it, and it named an entire hotel chain.
For DVD releases, this 3-disc edition of Holiday Inn is the best. It comes with the movie in both color and black and white, a CD, and has a commentary track that isn't on the other releases. There's also this double-feature edition that doesn't have any special features, but it comes with Going my Way - another Bing Crosby musical. That one has a non-musical sequel too, The Bells of St. Mary's.
Meet Me in St. Louis has a nice 2-disc DVD version, but a Blu-Ray digibook is getting released later this month.
Also, the Community episode this Thursday is a Christmas musical, which is sure to be awesome.
$2.00 Pawn Shop
Last Christmas, out of the blue I said, "I really want to watch Bah, Humduck" I had never seen it, but I have kept an eye out for it ever since.
Because, Batman.
$6.00 Pawn Shop
No slip sleeve, but for $6... sometimes I have to keep a straight face while I am getting cashed out at the pawn shop.
$15.00 Pawn Shop
Never seen this one, but I see that it is almost double that price new on Amazon and has a high rating. I took a chance with this one, and am looking forward to exploring it!
WalMart
I love the Marx Brothers since first watching their movies last year. This gets added to my Marx Brothers Collection
I think this is a WalMart exclusive. Adam West and Tia Carrera in a 80s zombie movie? YES PLEASE!
This is what I have been watching for the last day or two, it is so amazingly cheesy. I love it!
$10.00 Amazon
The Music Man BluRay
I had to get this for that price, especially after reading the review on blu-ray.com
Patton BluRay
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I also checked the review on blu-ray.com Make sure that you get the right edition. Don't get this one , the transfer is not as good.
There are no licensed bluray releases of the true original films. They are available on dvd though as bonus discs of the Limited Editions. https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Episode-IV-Limited/dp/B000FQJAIW And a little loophole is that if the Limited Edition is the full screen version then the bonus disc original films will still be widescreen. There are apparently still some very minor changes to the original films like a couple random sound effects but I've never gone through and picked them out. Although I dont suppose it matters since there's apparently nothing to compare it to other than the original 35mm print. Apparently no home video was ever released of the original films as they 100% exactly appeared in the theater. So the story goes.
As for the bluray Special Editions of the original trilogy episodes 4-6 I actually prefer Empire Strikes Back in the Special Edition. Every single change I think adds to the story and is very well done. Episodes 4 and 6 special editions are basically pure garbage. Episode 4 has a reincorporated deleted scene which is interesting but very badly done although I think they did the best possible job. As a star wars fanatic I think the only thing worthwhile in the episode 4 special edition is that its now the first appearance of Boba Fett although just a cameo. Not that he ever has much more than that anyway.
And I could've swore there are actually technically two editions with added scenes. I swear I saw in the theater A New Hope that was just the THX Remastered Edition which still had one new shot of a few X-Wing Fighters approaching a planet and also put the rings around the explosions of Alderan and the Death Star. I can't find any reference to this though but I swear I saw it in Dallas at Northpark in 1995
Well, I have a small collection of film-specific books, like my Twin Peaks collection(Full of Secrets, the Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, etc). I have some guides, like both Psychotronic guides and Leonard Maltin's 2011 guide(I only got it so I could play the Leonard Maltin game). I like some history books, and horror fans should definitely check out anything by David J. Skal, or The Book of the Dead which is an amazing and amazingly well-researched history of zombies in popular culture.
Edit Also The Films of Akira Kurosawa(currently in the 3rd edition, I believe) is a pretty indispensible movie-by-movie guide to his films. And any of the Directors on Directors series are really interesting, presented as a director interviewing himself. I own the Terry Gilliam, Martin Scorcese, and David Lynch volumes.
For the aspiring filmmaker, Robert Rodriguez's Rebel Without a Film Crew is pretty inspiring, and has some good advice. Lloyd Kaufmann's Make Your Own Damn Movie has some more practical advice, and is pretty well worth it.
I have yet to get my grubby little hands on the Halloween set, so I'll just go with the first couple that pop to mind:
This set is honestly the best set of movies I own. The box it comes in is simply amazing. its not just a typical cardboard holder. Id recommend checking it out in store to really see what the box is like. The extended edition is not necessary but makes it a little more enjoyable.
as for steel-books, they are the same most of the time, its just the case they come in is just a better box. Sometimes they have cool cover art. I always prefer steel-books just because they look better than the plastic holders.
I've only ever been able to find it online. Here it is on Amazon Canada and on Amazon US. The first print had an amazing steelbook, but those sold out quick and go for a pretty penny these days
Side note: the restoration is incredible! It comes with an hour-long doc on George Méliès and of the finding/restoration of the colour print. The amount of work put into the restoration is honestly crazy due to the condition of the print. Definitely recommend watching the doc for added appreciation of the release
I have given this some thought, and I've already purchased the materials. I'm too busy this weekend, but hope to get the project done next weekend.
Here's what I'm going to do. I bought some of those super strong rare earth magnets. I bought thin 1/2" x 1/2" 1/16" ones. Then I bought some large screen wipes, the stuff you would use to clean eyeglasses or a tv or an ipad. I'm going to cut that down into little pieces so the magnets don't scratch the steelbook.
Next I'm going to tape the magnets to the wall, 2 base magnets per steelbook arranged vertically. Then I wrap one each magnet with the protective cloth and stick it to the magnets on the wall. 4 magnets total per steelbook. You can get away with less than 4 for matte steelbooks, but 4 was needed to feel secure with glossy.
If you don't like the idea of taping to the wall the option of buying magnets with holes in the middle for screws is also an option, but more expensive (and more holes in the walls). My only concern is how well the tape will stay after taking them off the wall on and off again repeatedly. I was planning on using packing tape.
Materials I purchased off Amazon:

Info about the release here, but i haven't opened up the package yet to explore everything. Since it's a Masters of Cinema release I trust that it's super awesome.
nice collection dude, loving the OG 151 on the all also.
fyi im a huge heat mega fan i even have my own heat mask pin i sell, id just like to say that there is a better looking version available, depending on where you are.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Heat-Remastered-Blu-ray-Al-Pacino/dp/B01N0Q18P0/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=heat+4k&qid=1555165298&s=gateway&sr=8-1
/u/cagedcandy found the out-of-print Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 Blu-ray at Half Price Books for $25, then sold it to me for what he paid for it. The only downside was that it didn't have a slipcover, but then a few months later cagedcandy came across a YouTube user who had a bunch of extra Disney slipcovers, and he sent me the Fantasia slipcover absolutely free! So all-in-all, that was a pretty amazing (and very lucky) deal.
All of these are blu-rays. Please ask for any pictures or better descriptions. Most of these are just duplicates that I upgraded along the way. Feel free to make offers, since I am including the shipping I am not sure how low I would go on some of these unless you were interested in a couple then I would be even more than happy to deal.
OMG I literally just got this today and was so happy BUT the case it came in was pretty shite...It had ripples on the front plastic cover. Thankfully the actual paper cover art is completely fine. The edge on the spine of the plastic cover is also damaged all the way from top to bottom. I'm really new to dvd collecting so I dont know if this is something fixable, or if I should be smarter about which sellers from Amazon to buy from (would that make a difference? I dont know). So far as well the 2 discs I've checked have trouble when I try to skip in episodes. The picture becomes frozen but the audio keeps playing. My biggest gripe is that in both the menus of the discs, when you click on episodes the new screen doesnt load. You see the arrow pointing to the different options but you dont see the episode title names. I know I could potentionally get it replaced, but how would I know I would even get a new one that didnt have that problem?
Also, in my DVD collection I like the idea of purchasing the FIRST original release of a dvd. Is there anyway of knowing whether this: https://www.amazon.com/Daria-Complete-Animated-Tracy-Grandstaff/dp/B0019N8P2W/ref=tmm_dvd_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= or this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07D9FGYXW?pf_rd_p=330fbd82-d4fe-42e5-9c16-d4b886747c64&pf_rd_r=70BY87FQ0RD73X8A2JCJ came out first? I bought the first since it was cheaper.
So recently I've noticed a lot of youtubers "bagging" their movies. I wondered what they were seeing them on their shelves. I personally liked how they looked in the clear covers...but I also realized they can help protect them as well! I cant recommend them enough now! I bought these from amazon for only 6.99. Although they aren't a prime eligible item, they still came in 3 days. Plus, I think they add a bit of shine to your covers, ESPECIALLY on the steelbooks. No fingerprints now! Hope this helps someone!

I know nothing about Pokemon so I can't give any info about this set, or how good the deal is, but it seems cheap.
Hope it's useful to somebody!
----
EDIT: According to CamelCamelCamel, it was only at this price once before (in May), so it seems to be pretty cheap.
The only ones I have so far are
I absolutely LOVE Metropolis! If you have not heard of it before, you should definitely check it out.
"The Passion of Joan of Arc" is waiting in my wish list, together with "Die Nibelungen" and "M". However, there are many more by Masters of Cinema that are definitely worth checking out.
None at the moment, although I do have a 3D-capable TV. I'm not in too much of a hurry to upgrade everything else since most anime aren't going to be 3D (and the few that could aren't, AFAIK.)
Thus far, though, I'm not sure which 3D-capable player I would want if I were to get one. I also haven't tried figuring out sound. Many of the 3D setups had outputs for 5.1 Surround Sound on the system itself but I assume something like the PS3 doesn't have that sort of support. I assume that digital sound output from the TV would carry all appropriate channels were I to obtain a receiver with appropriate hookups for multiple speakers but you know what they say about assumptions...
Anyways, I'm interested in peoples' setups and their thoughts on which movies make for a good 3D experience.
One of the greatest movie franchises in existence. I have the extended edition box set and it's super nice.
I bought a beautiful blu-ray set on Amazon on Prime day. It has 31 discs and tons of special features. Here it is.
You should christen your collection with a nice collectors edition or a special edition of a movie you really like.
Something along the lines of this bad boy right here.
I don't have it yet but I think Miller's crossing is in the coen box set. It's on sale very often at Best Buy.
$21 on Amazon
I don't own any of the Harry Potter movies as of yet, so that collection .... ooooh hoh ... oh.
And guess what. It's half price on Amazon at the moment.
http://www.amazon.com/Potter-Hogwarts-Collection-Blu-ray-UltraViolet/dp/B00HETD0KC
The LOTR special features are actually all on DVD discs too, just reprints of the DVDs sold with the original DVD-only EEs. So yeah, it's probably counting those.
As far as I can tell this should take care of your blu-rays, USB & Netflix. Though I just glanced quickly... read it more thoroughly to be sure.
Edit: For anyone in the US looking for a blu-ray player this seems to do all of the things listed above as well... Again, be sure to read everything thoroughly.
I would tread carefully reading Amazon reviews. For one, they combine DVD/streaming/Blu-ray reviews all together, so it's not always obvious which release you are reading about. Even more confusing when titles get a 2nd Blu-ray release.
Plus most Amazon reviewers don't know what they are talking about when it comes to this sort of thing.
It's been quite awhile since I've watched my Blu-ray copy, but I guarantee you it looks better than the DVD. I sold my DVD copy years ago, so I won't be able to give you a comparison. Here's a caps-a-holic comparison between German Blu-ray and US DVD. I don't know how the German Blu-ray compares to the US Blu-ray, but there are some color differences between the German Blu-ray and the US DVD. You can see the US DVD is acceptable, not great, even for a DVD. Not to say I'm blown away by the Blu-ray screenshots either.
Have you considered this set for $20? Each movie comes in it's own case. Not a bad deal for $5 a movie. I bought it years ago, and threw out the box/sleeve because I thought the brain/head thing was ugly. Worth mentioning the Fargo release is the older (non-remastered), first Blu-ray release and Blood Simple has a new Criterion release. That may influence your decision.
The player is a Sony BDPS1200 Smart Blu-ray Disc Player. Currently, Kwaidan is the only Region 2 DVD that I have, but I plan on picking up more Region 2/B discs in the future. I currently have this nice, steelbook release of Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind ordered.
The DVD is the Masters of Cinema release of Kwaidan. The Criterion release is actually missing 20 minutes of the film, while this one is not. The middle BD is The Magnificent Seven Collection. It includes all four movies. And the last BD is the complete series of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, a pre-Evangelion series directed by Hideaki Anno. I ordered it back before Christmas when it was half-off during Right Stuf's big sale. It was on backorder for months.
Or you can do individual released with original theatrical and special edition

Lucky man. Well I will be on the look out. Does the set have a exact name or what
Edit: Never mind, found it and boy is it expensive. I'll have to keep looking around for it to find a better price.

Edit: To think when it came out 2 years ago, it was only $59. People suck when they gauge prices.
Individual DVD? It's hard to say, but I'll just have to go with the $19.99 price tag for your standard new release.
However collection of DVDs definitely have to go with this which i scored for $110
I bought mine from here, however its a hit or miss since there seems to be 2 different brands of protectors out there. The OKER brand is the one you want, you might have to contact different Amazon sellers and make sure you get the right one. The other protector doesn’t have the resealable tape in the right spot so you’d have to tape them down yourself
I only paid like $75 for the Hogwarts Collection blu-ray set.
I picked it up in the blu-ray box set, it was on sale for like $30 total at the time. Now it's even cheaper. You can check it out HERE.
Buy box sets from directors you like, Coens. Sometimes cheaper than buying them separate and you get the box for display purposes.
Amazon has The Lord of the Rings on extended edition for $25.99
TMNT is also on Amazon.ca for $94 - link
