Not sure if you were just looking at the Philadelphia Eagles Wiki page, but here is a decent place to start reading: History of the Philadelphia Eagles

It is a little bit more in depth than the base Eagles Wiki page.

NFL Films put out a decent history a few years ago. but it only covers up to 2004. Still a good video to check out to view a lot of the older Eagles stuff. It is $11 bucks on Amazon

I grew up in an Eagles household, so I followed from a very young age. I get all nostalgic about the players of the Buddy Ryan era.

I'll share a couple fan favorite games.

Games

The Miracle at the Meadowland (1978) - a fumble recovery by cornerback Herman Edwards that he returned for a touchdown at the end of a November 19, 1978 NFL game against the New York Giants in Giants Stadium. It is considered miraculous because the Giants were ahead and could easily have run out the final seconds; they had the ball, and the Eagles had no timeouts left. Everyone watching expected quarterback Joe Pisarcik to take one more snap and kneel with the ball, thus running out the clock and preserving a 17-12 Giants upset. Instead, he botched an attempt to hand off the football to fullback Larry Csonka. Edwards picked up the dropped ball and ran 26 yards for the winning score.

The Miracle at the Meadowland 2 (2003) - Donovan McNabb suffered through one of the worst games of his professional career. He completed nine of 23 passes for 64 yards and an interception. The Eagles were 2-3 and saw their season slipping away. While a 2-4 start wouldn't necessarily equal no playoffs, it would mean the Eagles needed to likely win eight of the final 10 games to appear in January.

With 1:30 to play, the Eagles trailed 10-7 but the Giants had to punt. Rookie running back and return man Brian Westbrook fielded the punt on one bounce and ran it back for a touchdown.

Miracle at the New Meadowlands (2010) - The greatest comeback in the history of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles had been manhandled by the Giants for the first three quarters and trailed by 21 points with under eight minutes to play in the 4th quarter. They went on to score four unanswered touchdowns in the final seven minutes and 28 seconds of play. The final score to win the game, 38–31, came off a punt returned for a touchdown by DeSean Jackson as time expired. Jackson became the first player in NFL history to achieve a walk-off punt return touchdown

The Body Bag Game (1990) - game that was played on November 12, 1990 between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins at Veterans Stadium. Its nickname comes from a comment by an Eagles player directed at a Redskins player: "an Eagle reacted to one injured Redskin lying on the turf by yelling, 'Do you guys need any more body bags?'"

Edit: Yea I typed this up earlier and walked away and never hit submit. ToTheBlack covers most of what I put here.

I'll go a different route than the other suggestions of jerseys/tickets (which are perfectly fine gifts) and ask is your BF a reader and does Eagles history interest him?

If so, you can always grab the Eagles Encyclopedia Championships Edition.

I bought a previous edition and read it myself and enjoyed it. It's full of cool info on just about everyone that was involved with the Eagles. I grabbed the Championship Edition today as a gift for my father for Christmas, and had Ray Didinger sign it.

I'd figure this might be something that might work since you said you're on the West Coast and getting something like tickets is more of an ordeal for you two.

u/carlosthejacket · 1 pointr/eagles

Awesome and sad, yep that kinda sums it up nicely :-) I'm sure the 1980 Super Bowl came up in that conversation. That was a tough one to watch.

On a different note, you mentioned above that you were born in 1992. Might I recommend picking up one of my all time favorite books about the Eagles. It's about the 1992 season called "Bringing The Heat" by Mark Bowden. Exciting and very well written.

Alright guys and gals, it's almost time! To everyone that thanked and complimented me, thank you! I intended to respond to each and every one of you, but there are soooo many comments (in a good way!) to get to. To those who don't win, I found this bad boy on Amazon for a good price and also ordered an OU version of Bradford! Good luck all!

I find the sync to be mixed from game to game. Some times it is perfect, I prefer when the radio is a tad behind. A few pause/play adjustments on the DVR and I can usually get them to sync. From my experience the game is usually behind on the radio more times than ahead of the action - sometimes it gets better after a few minutes. If it is ahead you need a dvr like device on your radio. I am hoping like you someone has a cheap solution for these times. Maybe something like this to record and pause the radio feed:
http://www.amazon.com/DE1129-Stereo-Player-Digital-Recorder/dp/B00AYPSBO8/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1376575017&sr=8-5&keywords=FM+Digital+Portable+Radio+Recorder

This one says you can pause the radio:

Another option is getting a digital antenna (like this one - https://smile.amazon.com/Antenna-Amplified-Detachable-Amplifier-Booster/dp/B073NYT5MK/). I live in FL so only about 1/2 of the games are on TV here, but the quality is always great, better than most streaming options, although r/nflstreams has been great this year.

u/Schmoopi · 1 pointr/eagles

Eagles fan in Oregon here and complete cable cutter. I usually bite the bullet and get the nfl sunday ticket and its great (given you have a good internet connection). nflstreams can just be super unreliable some weeks. I also make the small investment in a hd antenna like the following:

https://www.amazon.com/1byone-Amplified-Detachable-Performance-Cable-Black/dp/B00IF70T4M/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1501097582&sr=1-4&keywords=hd+antenna

That allows me to catch them if they are on local broadcast and blacked out on the ticket.

The only games I cant get are those on ESPN and NFL Network. Those I will usually find a local sports bar to go watch because they are typically prime time games

u/copperbacala · 5 pointsr/eagles

I've always watched a lot of CFB and have a particular affinity for defensive players and the defensive side of the ball.

Last year I just kind of went off the games I had watched, combine, rumors and how Mayock felt about guys.

This year I am actually watching these guys snaps on youtube - usually 3-4 games per prospect. I've worked through the defnsive side of the ball over the past month top 7-8 guys at each position. It's pretty hard to see the cb snaps and deep safety play though.

March I am going to be watching a lot of the offensive players. It'll be interesting to see how my opinions on guys will actually pan out in the draft. I am hoping to watch 20-23 minutes of snaps for 4-5 rounds worth of players come draft day.

> For some reason the Polish immigrant was avoiding Philadelphia . . . The Poles' negative response to the city of Philadelphia invitation is best understood in terms of the city's positive attraction for the Jews and Italians . . . Italians and Poles, for example, often competed for the same jobs . . . Compared to her sister cities of the nation, Philadelphia was not receiving large numbers of immigrants, especially Polish immigrants. In contrast, Pennsylvania was receiving more Poles, Slovaks, Croatians, Slovenes, and Ukrainians than any other state in the Union - twice as many as New York and Illinois.

> There were over 110,000 Irish-born in the city in 1890, nearly 75,000 Germans born in the same year, over 90,000 Russian-born (my edit - many of these were Russian Jews) in 1910 and over 45,000 Italian-born in that year, but the proportions were less than in many of the other large cities.

I'd even argue that there is something very interesting in PA. I feel that if you're German, Dutch, etc, even if you live close to Philly, there's almost a cultural Pittsburgh pull, which could partially explain why so many Steelers fans close to Philly (of course considering their many Super Bowls), etc. I think the Irish, Italians and Jews have much more affinity for Philly. The Slavs seem to be all over the place, but I'm already drinking man.

GO BIRDS

EDIT: Slavs

Here's the DVD, which also covers the whole season, for $5 on Amazon. I bought this out of a $5 bin at Wal-Mart a little while back. It's also available for 1 or 2 day shipping, which is great if you or someone has prime.

Hope that helps some, dude. Here's to a speedy recovery for your cousin.

Best back? Almost undoubtedly the best back in the modern era, but I can see you're not a fan of history. You should ask Santa for this book for Christmas. But in case you get the expected lump of coal, you should probably look up the HOF back that lead the team to 2 championships. (Hint: SVB are his initials)

u/ODBrunizz · 3 pointsr/eagles

Where do you live? If you live locally, you can just buy an antenna and get ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX for free in HD. I live up in Lansdale/North Wales/Harleysville area and get all but ABC.

You can do a month to month subscription with Sling TV to watch espn live streaming for like $20 and get other channels. I would pay $20 to watch at home and lower my bar tab. Also you get history channel and AMC and other channels as well.

Also you can get an android box and plug it into your tv, download Kodi and watch live TV via the add ons available.

I usually watch the Phillies on Kodi or listen on the radio. Another redditor pointed out there is a subreddit for live game streams. I will report back with the link.

edit: /r/nflstreams thanks /u/Groty

edit edit: Also if you use the antenna, you can buy a digital recording box such as this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IYETYX8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And DVR the game

Not this super bowl, but when I was a little kid I had this childrens book that you put a picture of your kids face in it and the story is about them as an eagle leading them to a superbowl.

I still have mine in my closet with the news paper from when the eagles won.

Link to it on amazon below:

I just came back up out of the rabbit hole. Here's the skinny as I interpreted it.

u/Tony_Blundetto · 32 pointsr/eagles

Link...in my order it said they're only selling 25 of them so move quick!

Edit: I got the numbers wrong, with shipping it's more like $29. But it's good quality, definitely worth it

u/Mogilny89Leafs · 5 pointsr/eagles

I strongly suggest reading "Bringing the Heat" by Mark Bowden. It's a great book about the Buddy Ryan Eagles.

RIP Wes.

Yes I’m sure. I just read it off the Blu-Ray version case that I own.

Look up THIS YEAR’S version on Amazon.

This one right?

I'm probably gonna end up caving in and getting it as well. It's just a matter of time.
