You might not have looked hard enough. EZDrummer and Addictive Drums both have demos:

https://www.toontrack.com/ezdrummer-2-10-day-demo-version/

https://www.xlnaudio.com/demos

I personally prefer AD2, but I haven't tried Superior Drummer. If you can afford it, SD3 is likely going to be the best sounding with the uncompressed samples, however AD2 still sounds good to me (and any of them will be much better than your module). The other thing that AD2 has above the others is a very easy to use midi mapping interface. Depending on the module you have, the right inputs might already be supported, however if not you can easily map your edge and bow inputs to their correct sounds.

For latency, you'll need to have an AISO driver installed. AISO4ALL is a common windows app to enable AISO on a built in sound card. Not sure if there's a mac equivalent option. Still, even with AISO4ALL I felt that the audio quality wasn't great. The latency was okay, but the sound quality just wasn't there. I would recommend you get an audio interface which will give you the low latency with higher sound quality. If you can swing it, I just got one of these and it's fantastic: https://www.amazon.com/Focusrite-Scarlett-Audio-Interface-Tools/dp/B07QR6Z1JB/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=audio+interface&qid=1566322232&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Basically the interface will act as a dedicated sound card. You'll set up EZDrummer or Addictive Drums 2 to use the interface as the audio output device, making sure you select the AISO drivers in the settings as well. You'll plug headphones into the interface itself instead of your laptop.

My suggestion: try the EZDrummer and Addictive Drums 2 demos (they're free) with what you have now. See if you can find AISO drivers to install on your mac, and just see if the sound quality and latency is tolerable to you once you have it all set up. If not, it might be time to splurge on an audio interface like the one I mentioned.

Once you get that, you'll be able to try the interface with the AD2 demo (there's no time limit on that demo, the EZDrummer demo will likely be expired by then). If the sound quality and latency is much improved and you're happy, you can probably be safe actually keeping the interface and then buying software at some point. If it still doesn't sound good, you can return the interface.

I've played mine through my cheapo monitors jamming along with my other gear and they sound surprisingly good. (These are [edifier bookshelf "monitors"](Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Active Near-field Studio Monitors - Powered Speakers 2.0 Setup Wooden Enclosure - 66w RMS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gTZDzb0VDTHMM) that I'm talking about.) it's not amazing, my headphones sound perfect, there's a loss of low end through the monitors.

If you've got a subwoofer to generate the nice thuds off your bass and toms there's no reason you can't get great sound from those monitors.

But like you said, it's for practice. You should be fine. If they're good enough to play back your recordings, it's good enough for jamming around with. On your own.

I've played through a three piece edrum amp with a setup similar to this back on my Yamaha DTXplorer and it was great. I'd love to put my TD25 through that kind of set up. You'd barely notice it wasn't an acoustic kit.

> The bass trigger is super dented (on the right side of a double bass pedal setup) from all kinds of non-drummer and Keith Moon/ Dave Ghrol wannabes stomping the pedal like Edward Norton in American History X

Haha, brilliant!

That's great news. If I had to choose between losing my balls or losing my kit, I would gladly offer my nuts on a plate first.

Hectic, that looks like a black tennis ball drum beater... I actually wrapped bandage around mine to keep the noise down, and it works!

u/Holybananas666 · 2 pointsr/edrums

Hey man, not a problem at all.

You'll need a printer cable to connect your Alesis module to your Macbook via MIDI interface.

Once connected, open Garageband and it'll ask you to choose a template, one of which is drums. Select that and it'll open up a new window. You might get a notification in top right corner as well which says "1 midi input detected" which'll prove that Garageband has successfully recognized the kit.

Now, you can select different kits from a panel on the left side and you'll hear the voice on your laptop speakers once you hit on the kit. You can output it to headphone/speaker via your laptop AUX port.

Feel free to DM me if you face any problem. Good luck dude.

Thanks for your thoughts. When you say a MIDI interface, do you mean something like this:

https://smile.amazon.com/ddrum-DDTi-Drum-Trigger-Interface/dp/B00IQ7PYG4/ref=sr_1_47?keywords=drum+midi&qid=1555278081&s=gateway&sr=8-47

I was planning on getting something like that so I can have more inputs for sounds with some of the PD-7s or PD-9s that came with my deal. But otherwise, I'm just going to plug my TD-10 into a computer with a MIDI/USB cable for the software you mention. It is definitely in the plans, but I've focused on setting up Phase Shift first so I can start playing some songs. The learning curve has been steep, but I think I've got it all set up.

I've also started the restoration of one of the PD-120's. I may be done with some pictures tomorrow....

Here's a (more expensive but pretty versatile) alternative - mini mixer - you'll want some cables to go with that (3.5mm to L+R jack from phone to mixer plus a stereo 6.35mm to jack from edrum brain to mixer) then plug your headphones into the mixer too. You could also pipe the output to your computer to record what you're doing so you can hear your progress.

Huge nono. Felt will rip the shit out of mesh. Get a cheap double bass kick patch on amazon and you will be fine. My iron cobras came with plastic and felt on the other side which was convenient.

I have this one https://www.amazon.com/Evans-Double-Pedal-Patch-Black/dp/B0002D0DWK/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=drum+patch+evans&qid=1564164850&s=gateway&sr=8-2

I use a remote hat with my td-50k, dw 9000, works great. I use a Gibraltar clamp like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002NIMA0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
On my right upright, with the stands arm at a 90 degree angle. Plenty secure.

I got felt furniture slider pads, like you'd put on the legs of a chair. Here's an example, but you can find them at any hardware store. Take 5-6 of the small round ones and stick them to the bottom cymbal, about 1/2" in from the edge. It makes a pretty substantial difference in the clomping and doesn't seem to affect the playablity at all. I'll take a picture when I can get over to the kit.

Im in the same boat as you, i just plink around at home. Due to finding a good deal on used I went with a Traynor Block12. I was missing that bass drum kick sound so i got a Polk PSW10 to go with it. Then I used a https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B005KBM160/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003L1AGVS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to connect the two together.

I also hook up a microphone and a bass guitar to the Traynor plus you could use a keyboard as well. But you might want to consider a cheap bass amp to separate some of the sounds, but see how it works first.

You can kind it see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/edrums/comments/d8drn4/td17kvx_upgraded_floor_tom/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share how I have my music tower in front of the kit. Sub on the floor, traynor above it, a Franken amp above that and then a Boss katana 50 above that with guitar/bass wall hangars on the side of the tower to save some space.

The thinnest stuff I've found for vibration isolation is about 5mm thick. That's something like two tenths of an inch, so you will probably need a different mount for it (not sure maybe you can find someplace in the mount chain to use it.)

This stuff https://kineticsnoise.com/hvac/npng.html is probably the best bet, but I don't know the quantities you can buy it in (nor how easy it is to cut up.) The closest thing on ebay is probably this - https://www.amazon.com/UEETEK-Vibration-Isolation-Anti-Vibration-150x150x5mm/dp/B07916TFQ8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549244039&sr=8-3&keywords=vibration+isolation+5mm although it may be possible to find other stuff to cut down to the right sizes. The easiest place to put it might be around the cowbell post these are attached to. I haven't put my BT1's back up yet, but by memory that spot probably has the most sapce to adjust.

u/darkforestzero · 10 pointsr/edrums

that's a lot of horse power dude. I wouldn't spend over $500, especially if it's unclear if your son will be into it. Just make sure whatever you get has midi out. This set looks like a decent compromise https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BW1XJGP

Feel free to msg me if you want any advice or need a sounding board. I've recently been doing a lot of midi stuff with drums and keyboard and researching amps.

u/TDixPix · 3 pointsr/edrums

Hey! I wanted to spend as little as possible and have been seriously enjoying my choice to pair a mini PA with a home theatre subwoofer. This amp has a subwoofer out plug, so I can adjust my mids and highs on the amp and my lows on the sub itself. Better yet, if you want more of a 'sound environment' you can pick up a pair of these speakers and mount them on either side of your kit and control them together.

You might have issues if it's a headset with mic (with a 4-pole TRRS connector). I have some Turtle Beach XO One's and I noticed that while it seemed to work, the sound was a bit weird - the vocals sounded slightly weird (like they were under water!).

I think it was because of the 4-pole connector on the headset. When I plugged the headset into an adapter like this and then the green plug into the Nitro kit (nothing is plugged into the pink end), everything is perfect!

u/Orionator · 2 pointsr/edrums

I have an Alesis Command kit and have had this same issue.

I first encountered it when I tried using an Amazon Basics USB cable, and it would occur to me exactly as you describe it.

I originally had a much shorter cable which worked fine (was from an old printer), so I bought a Monoprice USB Extender.

The same thing still happens sometimes, but when I unplug/replug the USB cable from the module instead of the PC and then restart Reaper and EZdrummer, it all works fine (I suck).

I would suggest getting a higher quality USB AB cable, and then getting the extender and trying your luck with that.

I'm not entirely sure if it's an Alesis issue, or if we both got bad cables coincidentally, but that's what has worked for me. I hope this helps!

So … I have a TD-6 that's over ten years old. I was having trouble with the triggers not firing. Pulled the heads off, and yeah, the cones are squashed. I did the same searches I'm sure you're doing. Official cones are about the price you've found. Don't try contacting Roland directly - they won't respond.

I fixed my kit myself, for a couple bucks.

Go buy one or two of the thick yellow sponges meant for cleaning your car - like this one, thought I bet you could find even cheaper. Cut it to shape, maybe just a little too tall to ensure the head holds it down. Use double-stick tape to stick it to the piezo.

I have no idea how long this will hold up, since my practice is rather sporadic recently. But, it got the triggers firing nicely.

Where did I say I'd buy a USB sound card?

If you have to know, here's my damn laptop.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Gaming-i5-7300HQ-GeForce-AN515-51-55WL/dp/B074Q54GSR

It's enough laptop for what I do (other than drum), and I've never heard of a laptop with a dedicated sound card. Thanks for your "help".
