Long time smoker, recent convert to concentrates here. My thoughts over the last few months:

You don't want to season a quartz nail, just heat it with a torch to clean it before you use it.

I like to always keep my banger clean. If you heat it up enough with a good-size torch, everything will burn off and it will look new again. No need to dunk in ice water or anything crazy, just torch it until it's crystal clear. Any residue will burn off and leave nothing but a fine layer of white ash. There is no reason to leave any icky buildup like a regular pipe, it will just taste bad later.

I initially bought a little butane creme-brulee torch. It sucks. Takes way too long to heat a banger. I grabbed my propane plumbing torch from the garage, and haven't looked back.

Unless you're dabbing one of those crazy-strong concentrates like distillate, you will have liquid residue left in the banger after you hit it. That's NOT the "good stuff", it's the other stuff that doesn't vaporize at THC- and terp-temps. Wipe it out with a q-tip after you take the hit, it saves you cleaning time later.

As far as getting it to the right temp, I had some trial and error. Too low, and it melts slowly and doesn't all vaporize. Too high, and it immediately turns black when you put it in the banger and tastes like crap. With metal nails, I can see getting it "red hot" and then timing the cool down, but with quartz is NEVER gets "red hot", at least with a brand-new banger. Quartz is insane... it just takes the heat with no complaints.

You could definitely learn your rig and torch as far as heating/timing, but I got tired of imprecision and bought one of these infrared thermometers. AWESOME PURCHASE, money well-spent. It only reads a high temp of 850 degrees or so, but you can monitor the cool-down, and as soon as it drops to 600F or so, you'll get a great dab. Plus, it has a built-in laser pointer! You can take a dab, and then lay on the couch and torment your cat! For only $17! But seriously, it makes for perfect dabs.

About the cleaning, I usually clean the banger right after the hit now (with the torch), after wiping with the q-tip. It's already half-hot, torching it makes it look brand-new, and who knows, maybe you'll be inspired to do another dab while it's still hot! (wash rinse repeat)

Have fun!

Chapter President of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) from University of Oregon here. I wanted to add that SSDP is a great way for you to start your marijuana law reform career if you're still in college. It opens the door for many new possibilities, makes you feel good about the work you're doing, lets you meet amazing people, and is honestly one of the best things you can ever do during your time in college.

*Edit: I also have a book suggestion

I use this CBD oil specifically designed for pets. I use it on my senior dogs (75-90 lbs) and I can see a difference (more playful and affectionate). I give them 3 drops on a biscuit, once or twice per day; which is a low dose for their size, but cumulatively it seems to help a lot. I am not a vet, so this is not medical advice, but my oldest dog has Addison's disease and arthritis and I have seen the biggest difference in him. D-Mannose can help for bladder issues (UTIs) too. Good luck with your pupper.

Try his autobiography. Great read, he truly, truly was an amazing human being, from Grateful Dead songs to helping found the EFF, from helping to raise JFK Jr to working closely with Dick Cheney, again just one amazing dude.

Let's review "The Stuff"

The description I can find.

"Creatine and Vitamin B2 in formula! No activator required. Cleanse your system of toxins fast! Works in 60 minutes; Effective for up to 5 hours; Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back; Proven effective; Tastes great; Creatine and Vitamin B2; Fast - Safe - Effective."

So it seems to me it is a B vitamin and Creatine formula.

Creatine: A antioxidant for this purpose. Which in no way helps or hinders THC removal from the body.

B Vitamins:

B2 Riboflavin: Vitamin B2, also called riboflavin, is one of 8 B vitamins. All B vitamins help the body to convert food (carbohydrates) into fuel (glucose), which is "burned" to produce energy. These B vitamins, often referred to as B complex vitamins, also help the body metabolize fats and protein. B complex vitamins are necessary for healthy skin, hair, eyes, and liver. They also help the nervous system function properly.

By this definition, the B vitamins in that drink help you convert substance to energy. Rather it be ingested food or body fat. So it will help indirectly remove THC from your system, assuming you are not eating enough calories to sustain your level of activity. However it is not going to remove them any faster then just stopping to begin with.

Your "detox" solution, may perhaps remove "toxins" from your body, but it is not targeted at THC removal.

It also may "mask" the THC in your urine. I still wouldn't run those odds. I've read that they work for some.

Through personal testing, using urine test strips that the lower cutoff was 50ng/mL. Testing "clean your system" drinks, and other various methods I've found on the net and none have been effective, and still fail the test.

Yes! In fact we are working on a couple of longterm projects primarily with Dr. Kirk Wilhelmsen at UNC Chapel Hill (as well as some other researchers) looking at this, as well as from a perspective of addiction (how addiction causes genomic changes and vice versa). He is publishing a lot of alcohol-related studies (ETOH easy to get your hands on like tobacco) of this sort, but we are working through the gamut of substances using the same model - looking at changes in the genomes of users versus non-users (it's striking). There's no reason this can't be applied to other substances, although the best results come from sampling a large group of individuals that consume a substance regularly.

The word is that the $1000 genome is not possible right now, but it is. We run more samples than anyone else in the SE. That, along with our facility's status as a CoRE allows us to do a lot of wheeling and dealing in order to test out new technologies (that we get at a discount as the first customer) and do trades for services and equipment.

We primarily support our own researchers, but with our reputation growing, we now have large private projects (from big companies) coming in the door frequently. I can't confirm or deny that we've done personal genomes, but theoretically the tools and protocols exist, as well as the critical mass needed to make it cheap. And lab ninjas that can be in and out with data before dawn.

edit 1: also your family physician will have a desktop sequencer in his office within the next 9 years to provide personalized treatments. The future is here!

edit 2: found it.

edit 3: another guy (Dr. William Valdar) working on the effects of drugs on genomes.

edit 4: I believe you can volunteer as a test subject in these clinical studies if you meet the criteria, but that's just hearsay in the department.

Though I haven't smoked for as long as you or as much. I understand your spot. I enjoy smoking but sometimes I feel it can cloud my mind and it's important to draw lines. One thing that's helped me is a Kitchen Lockbox. It can lock up to 10 days. Now no need to go all out with 10 days right off the bat, just do a day or two. Build up to it.

Fair warning: You need to put EVERYTHING you have in there. If it's smokable or you can smoke from it, put it in there. If you need any advice or encouraging words, feel free to PM me :)

Not many comments about grinders yet so I'll do one. Honestly if you're looking for 'bang for your buck,' you can't beat amazon.com. You'll pay 80 bucks at a head shop for something that you can get for 20-30 on amazon and it'll perform just as well.

I was astounded that my Chromium Crusher survived my first 3 years in college (I'm not sure even any piece of furniture lasted that long), still works just as well as the day I got it.

Somethin like this: http://www.amazon.com/CRUSHER-Quality-Tobacco-Grinder-non-aluminum/product-reviews/B000KVBAAI/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Or there's one for a Sharpstone if you want the more reliable brand name:

I bought this about a year ago and am running out now..

http://www.amazon.com/Humboldt-Organic-Hemp-Lighter-Hempwick/dp/B00DKECNAS

I have thought why I still use it many times. The flame is consistent and controllable.

It's great for precision with pipes if you want a super light hit during the day.

The burning smell it puts off while I'm smoking has really become a part of my ritual.

I say controllable because you can tilt the hemp above the flame if you'd like a bigger flame.

I use in combo with this...

http://www.amazon.com/Toker-Poker-Black/dp/B00HCOTX6E

(Toker poker sent me a handwritten thank you with my purchase. Wow!)

You can wrap the hemp wick around the poker. You can then light, stir, and dampen.

Never looked back.

I have this one. It's the cheapest one amazon has and it works like a charm. Super loud at highest setting, but still worth it.

Also, clean air when you're not smoking! I didn't see any noticeable increase in my household electricity bill either.

Wow, everyone is saying that the trick is not to get too high, but I have read a ton of non-fiction books while really wasted and absolutely loved them.

Such as "Man and His Symbols", Carl Jung.

As an aside, me and my husband had a couple over for the evening recently, while I was reading "Hamlet's Mill". Contraversial, I know, but still fascinating reading... Especially when stoned.

Anyway, I knew the husband, but not the wife. And she sat next to me on the sofa, took one look at the book and actually said "What are you reading for?"

She really thought that I was holding a book that I couldn't read, just to impress people. And there was only my husband and me there when they turned up.

I spent an hour or two trying to find a product to up my joint rolling game, and landed on this: Cigarette Rolling Machine Loader Roller Filler. Made For RAW & CONES Brand 1 1/4 Cones. I considered a few electronic options, they all had mixed reviews. This thing is great though, works perfectly.

u/DrWholittle · 1 pointr/eldertrees

I have something similar to this, but made by Zen and I absolutely love it! Incredibly easy and fast. I also add the filters to it before I roll them.

u/mesophonie · 3 pointsr/eldertrees

I use the systane drops. I already used them before i started smoking for medical reasons since i have really dry eyes, but it helps with smoking dry eyes as well. These are great since they don't have preservatives, and i ususally use about a vial a day.

>all of which any child can buy no questions asked.

In many states, you have to be 18 to buy cough syrup w/ DXM or any pseudoephedrine. And in certain states, you cannot buy more than x-amount of pseudoephedrine per month without a red flag going off^+. The other products, yes; but the sale of cough/cold medicine is typically watched closely just for this reason (and so that meth-heads can't buy tons of the stuff at a time). And I feel like if a ten-year-old went into NAPA and bought a bunch of ether (or even spray paint, for that matter), some questions would be asked.

^+ Edit: I was curious so I did a little research. Turns out pseudoephedrine is strictly regulated by the FDA and must be sold 'behind-the-counter' always (except for those tiny little 2-tablet pouches they sell at gas stations). Sales must also be recorded to prevent someone from buying tons of the stuff at a time. AFAIK, DXM is largely unregulated
, though most of the popular stores (Safeway, Walgreens, Kroger), from my experience, require ID for any sort of cough/cold medicine purchase, regardless of its drug content.

*Edit2: But you can buy DXM off of fucking Amazon. So, yea, I feel your point still stands.

These are all very niche products. While each will work to some degree, the scope of its usefulness is very narrow (OK, I may actually be a bit skeptical of the degree to which any of these can work in 10 minutes, but that's besides the point). If you are serious about wanting to help your wife make easy, consistent edibles, skip these overpriced specialty items and get an Anova/Joule sous vide cooker, a bunch of Ziploc bags, and some cheesecloth. Follow the guides at sousweed.com and you will get efficient decarb and infusion every time without the smell. The sous vide cookers are cheaper and do an incredible job at actually cooking normal food too!

Oh man, I love my Dynavap. It's very tactile and satisfying to handle. It's my daytime go-to. The seshes are on the smaller size, so I don't get melted and wreck my tolerance if I'm hitting it all day. What are you using to heat it? I like tried a few different lighters with mine. I like this one a lot.
