Agreed. I was looking through the gallery of Ender's Game book covers and most of them are atrocious. I do think this cover is probably the best I've seen, in terms of representing the book well and still giving a cool sci-fi feel to it, without looking too much like a kids book like this one.
It was called the "enhanced" edition. I found out reading the comments (you can see them here). It has pictures in every chapter, two added vignettes and it's like a third of the size of the unabridged version. The original version has something like 300 pages, the "enhanced" is more like 100.
I believe this only happened with the ebook version of the book.
edit: When I found out I had the abridged version, I went out to hunt the original and read that one too.
Another along those lines is The Long Run by Daniel Keys Moran. I've read it about as many times as Ender's Game.
Not so much mystery, but the politics and action are definitely there.
Coming soon, in 2035. (I hope that date's an error.)

It's a collection of essays that talk about stuff related to Ender's Game and its impact. I haven't read it in a while but it's decent.
Here's the link to the Amazon page for it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1937856216/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_rtpywbRE4R4B8
You might want to check out the Unofficial Orson Scott Card Series Reading Order on Amazon. It has a chronological list and an as-published list o OSC's novels. It's only $0.99 for Kindle.
I actually do the audiobooks since they have full cast for each character, they are pretty incredible. I only have ender and shadow series in book form. Amazon probably has a pack
Here the first formic war

$20-30 is a bit much. Though amazon is running a deal on the "Ender's Game: Battle School" one for $10! http://amzn.com/B005B1AW7Y
I bought a copy this afternoon. It'll be my first one. Looking forward to it.
