Amazon has a great set of 10 and the price was just reduced to $35, they are all 1oz bottles and not the 10ml which you see overpriced in other sets. The brand is NOW, which I trust since they're one of the older brands out there. Since you're using them for migraines and essentially as aromatic medicine make sure you're getting a high quality oil. I'll link the set I just got as well as a video I found helpful when I first started. Also, the 10 set does come with jasmine which is NOT an EO since it would be ridiculously expensive, but it's one of the best value sets out there. Oh, and if you shop in Amazon I recommend the chrome install app called Honey, it instantly price compares all amazon products and alerts you when you can buy it for less.

PS: There is SO much disinformation out there, one of my friends is a naturopath and I cannot stress enough how important it is to get your information from a reputable source, ideally a doctor!!!

I started with this set from Art Naturals - https://www.amazon.com/ArtNaturals-Aromatherapy-Peppermint-Frankincense-Therapeutic/dp/B01161IL20/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1487773111&sr=1-1&keywords=art+naturals+essential+oils

They are "lower quality" from what you would get from some of the more pure brands, and I've started upgrading and switching as I learn more and find oils and applications I really love (Eden's Garden is my personal favorite, but I buy from a few brands depending on who is having a sale at any given moment). But this was a fantastic set to start with - it gave me a lot of options for things I could try, and served as my "gateway" into essential oils. And since it's not a big investment, it's a good way to see if you'll actually like and use them.

Good luck! I have fallen in love with oils and finding new ways to use them, so I hope you are able to find the same kinds of relief from your issues that I have!

EDIT: here are links to a few Eden's Garden sets on Amazon as well. They are more expensive, but still very reasonable (which is why they're my go-to brand). I figured I would add those so you have some other options if you decide to go that route:

Their Synergy Blends set: https://www.amazon.com/Relaxation-Sunshine-Therapeutic-Essential-Edens/dp/B002RSVTHQ/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1487773392&sr=1-4&keywords=edens+garden+essential+oil

If you're making large batches, you don't want to measure in drops or volume. You will want to measure by weight. I assure you it is not as complicated as it sounds.

1. You will need a scale that measures to one hundredth of a gram (0.01g). If you are in the US, the best low-cost scale I have found is the GHP SF-400D which is currently $34.94 on Amazon. I say this is the best one I have found because an important feature is that the scale stays on until you turn it off. (Sometimes it takes time to measure out a dense oil like Sandalwood or Vetiver and the last thing you want is the scale turning off and clearing the measurement while you're still measuring.)

2. The next thing you need to know is the specific gravity (or density) of the oils you are weighing. Specific gravity measurements use water as the density standard. Water's specific gravity is 1.000 g/mL. This means that 1 mL of water weighs exactly 1 gram.

Some essential oil retailers will share the specific gravity for essential oil batches on their website. Otherwise, you'll need to look it up in a book, such as Fenaroli's Handbook of Flavor Ingredients, or look it up online.

Peppermint essential oil has an approximate specific gravity of 0.902 g/mL. This means that Peppermint oil is less dense than water (causing it to float on water's surface). And this means that if you measure 0.90 g in weight of Peppermint on your scale it will be pretty darn close to 1 mL in volume.

3. Now you just need to do some simple conversions to get the weight for the volume you need. You said that you're looking to measure in fluid ounces. So it's important to know that:

1 fl oz = 29.5735 mL

Here is your simple formula:

number of fl oz × conversion factor to mL × specific gravity = grams of essential oil

If you want 1 fl oz of Peppermint, this is how you would get the weight:

1 × 29.5735 × 0.902 = 26.68 g of Peppermint

That is a lot easier than counting about 600 drops!

Now brands oils are honestly pretty good! I’m really happy with their lavender oil. You may want to check out Eden’s Garden, Plant Therapy and Rocky Mountain Oils for some other options to compare prices and other starter kits.

You can also get a less expensive diffuser here . I have the older version and it has been going for about two years of regular use (5-7 times a week).

Just please do not consume essential oils. There are a lot of companies like Young Living and DoTerra that suggest this is okay (side note: stay away from them). Be careful using oils around pets as well. Tea tree oil can cause respiratory issues in dogs and cats. Essential oils are very potent.

I have tried just putting oil on a cotton and putting it in between the air vent slats but that dried out super quick. I got a small USB car diffuser from Amazon and it fits in the cup holder and I love it so much. 18 Dollars very well spent

I have this one and I really like it, it's fairly quiet and has a nice warm-white LED light that isn't too bright. You can run the diffuser with the light on, dimmed a bit, flickering (sort of like a candle), or turned off completely. It also has an intermittent mode where it runs for 15 seconds, then pauses for another 15 before diffusing again. It has the usual features like turning off automatically when the tank runs dry, etc. I like that it has a little remote control - I'm lazy and don't wanna get out of bed to turn it off sometimes!

Just a suggestion for you, Amazon has a lot of affordable ones with good ratings. I definitely don't think you need to spend too much money to get a decent one, I know some stores sell them for like $80+ which to me is unnecessary.

OK, well in that case, can you recommend a good, ultrasonic diffuser that can cover a 350-400 sq foot room? It doesn't need to fill the room super fast or have LED lights or anything. Just something reliable for a beginner. Plan on starting out with this to see how I like it. https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Solutions-Natures-Shield-Blend/dp/B015NFD8GO

I had a similar problem and realized that it is because not all diffusers are the same strength as far as how strong a mist they produce. I did some research and for that thisone produces a strong mist (stonger than the young living one my mother-in-law gave us) and is pretty cheap. We bought a second on the day after we got the first one.

Edit: stronger mist =more smell (depending on the oil you use. Some oils smell more strongly in a diffuser than others)

u/Allison7590 · 1 pointr/essentialoils

Sort of. Edens Garden sells single oils (the first group I posted) which can be blended together to make awesome scents and they also sell their own pre mixed blends (second group) that are just amazing.

I recommend them over other companies because they test their oils for purity and aren't super expensive compared to other companies. I use their oils in my DIY beauty products such as lotions and serums.

My diffuser is called a "rockano". I bought it off of amazon for $50 and while it was expensive, it is reliable and runs a lot longer than others I've owned. here is the link

This stuff is amazing.

The bottle is tiny but I made a roller ball perfume with it and some carrier oil. But honestly if you put a drop of this alone on your wrists and rub it all over yourself ITLL LAST ALL DAY!! Smells pretty dang close to incense imo :)

u/Princessluna44 · 1 pointr/essentialoils

For the oil, I would just buy from Plant Therapy directly. The prices are the same and they are currently running sales on their site, so you may pay even less. That is a good start-up set for oils, as it has a god variety of common oils you may need. Be sure to do some research and look up some recipes you may want to try. That way, you are only buying oils you will actually use. BTW, I heard that 3rd party sellers may alter the oils, or containers. Not sure about that one, but it's what I heard.

I would also suggest Eden's Garden . While I prefer PT, EG has "choose your own" sets in 6, 12, and beyond. This way, you can bundle cheaper oils in a set and get the more expensive ones on PT. EG is also running sales, but I haven't been paying enough attention to what they are :-/

The diffuser looks pretty! I got a 700 ml one form Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073F6DKLF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, but this one looks good, too. I recently found a course on essential oil use on Udemy and the guy on their likes water diffusers (like the one you picked out) and nebulzers (more scent and no water, but also more expensive).

I'm a bit confused. What do you mean by a "blend" in this context? Was there 4 different Frankincense "varieties" or was there a blend that featured Frankincense as the main ingredient/scent?

If you're referring to this, that's literally just Frankincense essential oil and a rather cheap carrier oil. You could replicate your own by purchasing 10 ML roller bottles off of amazon, buying a carrier oil of your choice -- if you want to be "fancy," go for golden jojoba oil -- and 6 drops of a quality Frankincense essential oil for a 3% dilution. Tallying that all up:

  • These roller bottles are $7 for 6, so $1.17 apiece
  • Golden Jojoba oil from Bulk Apothecary -- as a reputable bulk ingredient supplier -- is $7.12 for 2 oz, which is about 60 ML. For one 10 ML roller, it's $1.19, but let's call it $1.25 with shipping.
  • There are two major types of Frankincense that I've heard of, made from resin found in different locations. Decent blog post from Plant Therapy here. Let's say you go with the more expensive Carteri oil, which is $18.95 for 10 ML. That's 200 drops of oil, and you only need 6 for this application. That's $0.57 worth of oil in your average roller bottle.

So per bottle, it'll cost you $2.99 to replicate the $61 roller bottle from Doterra -- and I picked higher quality stuff than they did. In all, it'll cost you ~$35.95 to get set up... which is still much less than Doterra's version for just one. The oil and roller bottles will let you make 6 altogether -- the EO will last for a whopping 33 roller bottles before running out! (Assuming you don't use it for something else, of course.)

So to be clear, you spend $35.95 for 6 roller bottles & a ton of leftover Frankincense EO. You'd need to spend $366 to get 6 roller bottles of the Doterra version, and you'd get an inferior carrier oil AND no extra Essential oil. That's literally 90% less to do it yourself -- talk about markup.

Math like this shows how they, Young Living and others who sell pre-diluted blends make A SHITTON OF MONEY. You're paying for 3% of actual product (safely) diluted by a cheap (though decent) filler, which is why you're better off paying for the EO itself and diluting it on your own.

    Did that help?

[This](Plant Therapy 7 & 7 Wood Grain Aromafuse Gift Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X6BJD2Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jwZ.BbD1XT2SF) diffuser is better because it has intermittent settings so it’s not constantly on.

But if I were you I would visit the Plant Therapy website rather than buy from Amazon - they are having their 25 days of Christmas sale and there are/will be some great deals.

u/BackMountGogoplata · 1 pointr/essentialoils

FYI I bought the Smiley Daisy Hibiscus based on this link, and I was completely underwhelmed. It would only fill about a 10x15 room with scent. When I placed the unit in my kitchen, I couldn't even smell the oils though the house.

I returned the Hibiscus and ordered the Zen Breeze instead

Much better reviews on square footage coverage for only $10 more

If you want a diffuser to cover as much area as the Hibiscus just get the Seneo for a fraction of the price

These little cup holder diffusers are fantastic. I picked one up over the summer, and I love it.
