Reading books like the one linked to below makes me truly appreciate how fortunate I am to shit post here with all you fellow degenerates. Ethereum is the natural successor to bitcoin, and broader society is starting to wake up to what this really means. So beautiful.

Does anyone have thoughts about the best way to generate keys in Windows IoT or Linux on a Raspberry Pi?

I ask because it's possible to build a brand new dedicated off-line touchscreen computer + HP printer to create cold storage wallets for less than the cost of a Ledger Nano S. I own a LNS and it's great. I am just using it as a reference because it's become something of a standard and many people ask about even more secure alternatives.

$30 - [computer] (https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-Pi-Model-512MB-Computer/dp/B00LPESRUK)

$22 - touchscreen

$30 - printer
____

$82. (vs. $85 LNS)

Even better, AdaFruit has a $10 Raspberry Pi with no networking capabilities - ideal for an air-gapped system. Using your own monitor and keyboard puts the price at $40, including the printer of course.

Once you have a print out of your keys from an air-gapped system, you can transfer them to other materials for very minimal cost. Photoresist film + acid or sand can be used to etch keys and qr codes into metal tags for long term storage. It's not difficult. More like a craft project. The result is relatively fireproof, waterproof, shock proof, etc. Private keys can be covered with tamperproof seals.

This is all pretty well known but hopefully it helps a few people. If anyone has any thoughts on software, it would complete the package. I have everything ready to test but I don't want to waste time solving the wrong problems with the wrong application.

Your claim is plausible enough, though, that I don't think a source is really necessary. Regardless of if Jones used this specific hymn, I'm CERTAIN that he used music to convert.

If you're interested, this is a very interesting account of Jones' life, and the course of Peoples Temple.

I'm not religious at all (more agnostic than anything else), but the way that faith has been wielded for good and for evil has fascinated me for some time.

EDIT: Sorry, I must have missed the last part of your post. I haven't listened to the sermon specifically, but I did listen to excerpts in the audiobook that I linked. There was a pretty detailed account of what went down on stage (the sermon), and off stage (pieced together from where the bodies were found, and several journals).

We're all trying to do the best we can in this crazy place called crypto.

As to your comment, that's why there is no DCF or dividend discount model or the like in my post. Scenario analysis is a start of something and it gives context. It leans on assumptions and guesses and it's weak for it. But it gives better context than just rolling the dice or guessing without going through the rigor of breaking it down. Have you read Superforecasters? I highly recommend it.

Another framework to use that might be of some use would just to look at comparable cryptos. LTC/BTC relationship, estimated of TX/day and number of users and value, etc.

Book recommendation

Just keep in mind, bubbles are not permanent. Corrections in the financial world are like forest fires. They clear out harmful debris and foster future growth. For you hodlers, if you're in this for the long haul, here's some things to keep in mind:

  • Bitcoin took 3 years to recover from it's first correction
  • The Canadian Banks (they didn't hold toxic assets during the housing crisis) took almost two years to recover from the housing implosion - and they were the good ones!
  • Apple actually missed out on the tech boom entirely; they were thought of as a company on its last legs until the iMac was released then the iPOD.
  • Actvision - a company that had nothing to do with the housing bubble, took six years to recover it's share price from 2008 levels.
  • Microsoft took SIXTEEN YEARS to recover it's pre tech implosion price level. And it's never fully regained it's market cap.

The thing about revolutionary new paradigms is that they don't do it without bumps in the road.

I haven't watched this video yet, but if anyone would like to learn more about trading psychology the book 'Trading in the Zone' is brilliant.

Nice! No doubt it's hard work. I have 8 GPU's running, and I've been working on containing the heat situation. Slept on my floor last night because I was literally sweating. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have a roommate, but I do, so I have to keep everything contained in my room out of respect.

Got this in today: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005CDPH/

All 8 GPUs are now blowing directly into that and outside. It's working very well. Before today I had a box fan on the windowsill. The problem with that was... there wasn't enough suction because of the openings on the sides. The window fan allowed me to seal it all off with the window closed. Don't have to shutdown during rain anymore either.

What gives USD it value? An ounce of gold? A barrel of oil?

Edit: I encourage anyone interested in these questions to read this book: https://www.amazon.com/Derivatives-Wealth-Societies-Benjamin-Lee/dp/022639266X

You can buy your own engraver. Or dremel tool with engraver bit. But best (and cheapest) is the letter punch set, like this https://www.amazon.com/Vector-Number-Capital-Letter-Punch/dp/B01A1CTYG2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504064933&sr=8-3&keywords=letter+punch+set

Will take about half an hour to do 24 words. I've tried it on stainless steel plate (slightly more difficult) and on aluminium plate (much easier, because allu is softer). But alluminium has much lower melting point. Decisions, decisions :)))

You should use an enzyme-based cleaner to take care of the smell, especially if it’s in carpet (some info as to why).

This one works pretty well.

https://www.amazon.ca/Darwin-Among-Machines-Evolution-Intelligence/dp/0201406497/ this is the book that theorizes the internet will become a networked sentient intelligence through natural evolution.

But the quite itself (from the website http://cellarius.network/) was made by Samuel Butler, an author who wrote this book: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erewhon . A satirical book about a fictional utopia "Nowhere" backwards -
> "Another feature of Erewhon is the absence of machines; this is due to the widely shared perception by the Erewhonians that they are potentially dangerous."

Cellarius is a pseudonym of Sam Butler's.

> "Cellarius 1863, pseudonym perhaps referring to the classical scholar, signed to letters to the editor of The Press by Samuel Butler".

Aaaaaaaaand we're back

Would be nice with some more trading talk here than this teenage drama. For example, does no one here read books about trading? On bitcoinmarkets people are more focused on the strategy and psychology, this feels like a crypto version of r/investing with feel good quotes about "buy the dip average 7%"

Currently I am reading this https://www.amazon.com/Market-Mind-Games-Psychology-Investing/dp/0071756221/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1549915685&sr=1-3 , very applicable to crypto

\> If you've ever read the book [Ready Player One (Book)] or the movie [Ready Player One (Movie)] then you can get a feel for what I am envisioning.

I can highly recommend [Snow Crash](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Crash) (Neal Stephenson, 1992). If you enjoy it you may also want to check out [Cryptonomicon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptonomicon) by the same author.
