>writings on NGE's impact on anime and western culture

I don't know whether this will be any good to you as I've only seen the first volume of this (I think there are six so far) but if you can find this, it's probably your best bet for that kind of stuff. Not really sure on contents of any given issue, but you can probably find that info somewhere. 'Essay' probably means university, and that means university library, which means inter-library loan is an option too.

Another one to definitely read: Otaku - Japan's Database Animals, by Hiroki Azuma. Don't worry, it's translated very well. This is dense stuff but fascinating, and reads like a design doc for TVTropes; it also focuses significantly on Eva. A must-read for you, I think, given your focus. Certainly a favourite of mine - it changed how I see all media.

[Here] (https://www.amazon.com/EVANGELION-Sticker-Decal-Laptop-Die-cut/dp/B00CPYFQ6W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1482805201&sr=8-3&keywords=nerv+evangelion+decal) is a pretty sweet decal of the NERV symbol I put on my black Impala. Looks pretty sweet and the installation was painless. Definitely recommend it!

Little warning: every letter is by itself. Like all the letters spelling out "Gods in his world..." are each separate. I decided to cut them off and kept just the NERV and leaf part. Still looks awesome!

Oh gotcha, Im relatively new to longboarding so I didnt buy anything top of the line, but I like it:) this is the listing for it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H755BFE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.aFcBbMVPAQJ2

My friend lent me his for a while and I fell in love with riding, so I had to buy one haha

u/Doninger · 1 pointr/evangelion

That's a good price. Do you know if there is a charge for converting money from USD to Yen?(Or your currency since I'm not sure where you live)

I think some banks might charge for the service.

Here are some good prices on Amazon

What I like about Amazon is that it's not as shady as Ebay can be. You can open serious claims if your product isn't as it's listed and Amazon will take care of it. With Ebay you don't have the most dedicated customer service. With that being said about 80% of my collection has come from Ebay. Can't beat those prices.

u/susakuchanticleer · 1 pointr/evangelion

That would be really cool! If it was possible for someone to rewrite Star Wars as a Shakespearean drama, then Eva surely could be given the same treatment.

On a similar note, I've always thought it would be awesome if someone rewrote Eva as an epic poem- maybe in alliterative verse like in Beowulf (which like Eva, describes a series of battles against progressively stronger monsters), but then have it occasionally turn into super modern experimental verse to describe the weird surreal stuff like the Komm Susser Tod sequence.

u/Ashinjuka · 1 pointr/evangelion

Yep, I went with this one, which you can see here on my white '94 Camry.

Installation wasn't too hard. I am pretty fastidious about that sort of thing so I watched like 3 different videos before doing it to cement the best practices. I still had issues where the backing didn't want to come off the O and the apostrophe in "God's" but I made it work and they're still on there after a week. For five bucks, I've absolutely gotten that much joy out of it already. Who cares if no one else ever recognizes what it means?

u/FilmxFilms · 3 pointsr/evangelion

For Shin Godzilla, and a lot of his more recent work post Eva/Gainax (even Gunbuster) entirely yes. For this one unfortunately, it looks like no. The film is a bit too obscure for even Netflix or Amazon Prime to pick up, and from the looks of it no on-demand services have it either.
The Amazon physical DVD (Eng Subs, luckily) would be your only bastion, besides just watching the full thing on YouTube, https://www.amazon.com/Love-Pop-Tadanobu-Asano/dp/B00029NMD6

My general rule of thumb when it comes to films, as both art and intellectual monetary property, is if it's no longer being print, and no longer being distributed or available legitlly through a service where the money would go back to the production studio, distributor, and folks behind it it any way, then it's fine to watch online or second hand where accessible. Kind of similar to public domain renaissance art . If you still feel sketchy about that, then by all means order the 2004 DVD. (Edit: NOT advocating the pirating of any easily monetarily accessible, well in-print media. That's no good).

u/BTCyd · 2 pointsr/evangelion

Thanks for the suggestion! I am a fan of that subreddit, but I want to post a bigger/nicer picture over there once I re-do my desk environment.

I actually replaced my blackwidow with this keyboard! haha. The keyboard I have is a CM Storm Rapid-i, Cherry Brown Switches (LED backlight, TKL version). Link here:
http://www.amazon.com/QuickFire-Mechanical-Keyboard-ActivLite-Technology/dp/B00M562EQU/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1452028973&sr=1-2&keywords=cm+storm+rapid+i

If you want a cheaper version, I suggest the non-LED version, which comes in full or TKL:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VDKLLM/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i1_r?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=0DBQRZDHR08NPZRQ1NNH&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2079475242&pf_rd_i=desktop

Great keyboard! Much smaller than my blackwidow which has allowed for way more space on my desk. I also inserted small o-rings to make the noise quieter, a suggestion if you want something a little less noisy. Regarding the keypad- I thought I was going to miss it, but it turns out I prefer the extra space much more. I will say though that I miss having the extra macro keys to the left as I used them in my gaming, but I quickly adapted with little difference.

Edit: The keyboard I currently own was $99 when I purchased it but it is priced right now at $120, Im sure you can find a cheaper version elsewhere if you wait/do some research

u/zaockle · 10 pointsr/evangelion

That looks like the JP version, which had no Eng audio and no subtitles at all. So if you can speak the moons, go for it.

EDIT: I totally understand your sentiment though. The Funi 1.11 release cover looks like poop. Also, I've always had a problem with how Funimation completely overlayed the credits for 1.11 and 2.22 with their own. It's like 80% funimation staff that had NOTHING to do with the actual making of the movie and then credits for the top staff that did. I don't know if khara mandated to Funi that they couldnt do that again for 3.33, but I was glad to see the credits intact.

Look - you're free to have whatever opinion and theory you like. I'm not going to respond to most of this, because you've just revealed that you are, in fact, not reading what I've written and coming in with some preconceived notions.

Example 1:
>>I've pointed to several instances where you've willfully ignored context All you have done is claimed that I am wrong or that I misunderstand without a sliver of evidence to back it up

>Nope.

>I have considering my earlier post proved it. Your entire argument hinges a theory that Rei I/II communicates with Rei III through time travel

"... entire argument hinges (on) a theory that Rei I/II communicates with Rei III through time travel."

But here's what I actually say:

>Even assuming Rei I and II are not present and it's only Rei's thoughts -- the thoughts are pressuring her to accept that she is false, that she contains a false soul -- that deeper down there is something that is her true self (Lilith) and that Rei will cease to be (this in itself suggests there is not only an allegedly "false" soul, but Lilith as well).

By the way -- it's weird that you're skeptical of a "time travel" scenario considering we already know Rei 0 exists outside of time.

Example 2:

You reference Evageeks twice in your post (again!). I have yet to bring it up other than my very first post where I provided it as a source of information for people curious about the theory because I didn't feel like writing out my position in its entirety (as I have now had to do). I am not parroting this theory. I may have said previously, but this theory appears to be very recently adopted by the community -- it's an argument I've held for over a decade (back when other theories were more prevalent).

Seriously: I don't understand your obsession with Evageeks. I have not referenced it once in any of my arguments, yet you continue to bring it up as if I'm using it as a source.

Edit to provide Example 3:

>>She does appear to people prior to Instrumentality on at least three separate occasions.
>She appears in fact, on more than one occasion. Hell, Rei's for EVERYBODY! Not only that, Rei herself appears as people other than herself!

You ignore that I'm talking about prior to the actual activation of Instrumentality.

But now that I've gotten the ball rolling, there are actually a couple things I'd like to respond to.

You seem to be suggesting that the three Reis that appear during Instrumentality are the equivalent of the Rei 0's that appear outside of Instrumentality collecting people. I reject this assertion. These three are present during and inside the process of Instrumentality. These aren't apparitions that have come to collect; they're there to bear witness to Gendo's punishment alongside Yui and Kaworu.

The second thing I'd like to point out is your fallacious logic that Unit-00 doesn't contain a soul.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like your argument basically says:

Only Rei (A) has a soul(B); Rei's (A) soul is not in Unit-00 (C); therefore Unit-00 (C) doesn't contain a soul (B).

A contains a B; A is not C; therefore C does not contain a B.

This logic simply does not follow. Unit-00 could contain someone else's soul (this is not what I am arguing; I'm only noting that just because you claim some form of Rei's soul is not in Unit-00 that therefore Unit-00 must not have a soul is a [demonstrably] bad argument).

However, most of this is moot at this point.

Let's see how willing you are to accept your own words and accept that just maybe there's room for other theories.

To preface, I decided to look up your claim that Rei Q is credited as such in Rebuild 3.33. I forgot to check my blu-ray last night, but I'm assuming you mean she's credited as such in the ending credits? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume she is.

In my online search, all I could find were the Italian credits where she's credited as "Rei Ayanami" and the Japanese script where she's only credited as either Rei's Voice (レイの声) or simply Rei (レイ).

But here's the most important discovery (I probably should have saved myself time and simply lead with this).

While searching for information on the crediting of Rei Q, I found details on the Platinum Booklets. I wasn't familiar with these as I own the Platinum thin-pack set that doesn't include said booklets.

From Amazon:

>The first pressing will also include profile booklets filled with screen shoots, Japanese commentaries and character profiles.

These Platinum Booklets have been translated: Source 1 Source 2

They appear to be the same translation, so feel free to reference whichever.

Now, let me remind you of an assertion you've previously made:

>If they actually were different, they'd be credited as different characters, similar to how Rei Q is credited differently in Rebuild 3.0, or how clones are titled Clone #1, #2, #3 etc... in other works of fiction.

According to the commentary for episode 25:

>In “The Third Character – In the case of Rei Ayanami” part, three Rei Ayanamis ask and answer their own questions. In the storyboards and the recording script, the child is denoted as Rei 1, the one in the plug suit as Rei 2, and the one in the school uniform as Rei 3, and they appear to correspond to the three generations of Rei Ayanamis. Rei 1 is heartless and Rei 3 appears to have a shallower awareness of “self” compared to the other two. The one who said she existed because Gendo needed her is Rei 2, who knew Gendo for the longest.

Now, I don't know what to expect given your history to gloss over what I've actually said, but maybe you'll surprise me in accepting that perhaps there are other possible theories. I won't get my hopes up. Everything you claim about me continuously sounds more and more like projection.

I think maybe I'll end by pointing out that I think we're both passionate about the series. I think it's safe to say that you believe your version gives Rei's character meaning and that mine somehow diminishes her in some way.

However, you have to understand, I see your theory the same way; I think to argue that she only carries one soul (Lilith's soul) diminishes her to that which she most fears, that she is false; merely a vessel, a tool to serve a purpose and be discarded.

In the end, we likely won't see eye to eye on this. If you have an ounce of integrity though, you'll be able to accept that, given your own conditions and assertion, there's potential for other theories.

If you don't, I expect you'll go back to lamenting Evageeks and just keep saying "wrong".

*Note:

I am pretty sure everyone can guess but this is the Japanese release. Yes you can get it as well Thank me later

The only difference with this release and Funimation's is that the booklet has a spine instead of being stapled. The OST is included (I do not know if it's included in the Funi release, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

Also the case holding the disks are on a digipack (I think that's the name) instead of the normal blu-ray case.

BTW: it does not have English subtitles.

u/Mouseforatu · 3 pointsr/evangelion

That looks heckin cool, friend! I might have to pick that one up at some point. Right now I'm cross between the Unit 1 "Arousal" or Unit 13 for my next purchase. Both look so damn cool.

Edit: I like how it looks like the God Warrior from Nausicaa in this form.

u/Blazingluke · 6 pointsr/evangelion

Not a waste of time! This is the beginning of your Clear File collection. I picked up one of these last month and it is the perfect way to keep your collection pristine yet viewable.

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00I3T64G4/

Just make sure you order it with something else or shipping will make it prohibitively expensive.

u/SuperXISM · 5 pointsr/evangelion

A few things to note: you can find the original "limited edition" Japanese pressing very cheap, used, if you don't care about obis or first-press box availability. If you do, you can scour Amazon Japan's marketplace sellers and eBay. The ultimate version of the Evangelion 1.0 OST is KICA-886, contains 38 tracks including insert songs, vocals and remixes. It's about $5.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0016HCF86/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1481573249&sr=8-1&keywords=4988003345921

I can respect wanting to support Milan Records' release but just know it's a localized version of a stripped-down Japanese pressing KICA-887 which has been usurped by KICA-886.

EDIT: Same for 2.0 and 3.0. 2.0 Special Edition can be had for $6-7. 3.0 only had one pressing, can be had for $6. They are already widely available. They are all still available brand new as well.

It was mostly in reference to this: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Story:The_Shape_Of_The_Nightmare_To_Come_50k

Also, I'd advise you to take some time to savor the good writing you find. There is not an infinite amount of it.

If your'e done with that, https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2648428/1/Normal-to-Reality is also the tits. But when I read it, I found the writing a lot more dense, and the storytelling a lot more spread out. Orchestrating the Silence is essentially a survivalist escapist fantasy (and its great, I've just read a shitload of it), this is closer to some hoity-toity definition of 'literature.'

Also, the dude/dudette what wrote Orchestrating the Silence also wrote a book you can buy here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AM2DSKA

I enjoyed that book immensely. Feel free to leave a review harassing them to release Book 2.

u/theevamonkey · 1 pointr/evangelion

> I can't find it any where from my own research and the help would be appreciated!

Given I found it with a quick Google search for sale on Amazon, I can only assume you mean you want to pirate it. In either case, you can acquire it from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/THE-END-OF-EVANGELION/dp/B0006FGXTQ

u/Murikov · 1 pointr/evangelion

Hm, no idea to be honest. :)

But considering that the original price for the new jewel case DVD back then in 2009 was €15, and that the offered DVD in question already has quite some signs of usage, I would say that it's quite overpriced. I don't know anything either about its rarity.

And also note that the DVD itself seems to be technically identical with Selecta Vision's previous release.

This means DVD Region 2, only Spanish, Catalan and Japanese audio, no English dub or subs. This may be important to you depending where you're from and what language you speak.

I want a new perfect grade. the one that is available is one of the first ones so it has the same articualtion as a high grade...just bigger and I think it has lights http://www.amazon.com/Evangelion-Perfect-Grade-EVA-01-Model/dp/B000LQNC0I/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1418670511&sr=8-17&keywords=unit+01+model+kit
