I've seen proof of concept with raspberry pi projects, but you have to use linux and wine to run EQ (and technically using that method could get the account banned). Theoretically possible at like 35 bucks.

More realistic, though, just browse craigslist, ebay, whatever for a cheap computer (refurbished ones from company selloffs of old pcs are great and pretty cheap This, for example). 100 bucks for the machine itself, maybe 30 bucks (or less, even free if you have one laying around) for an old video card (seriously, the shaman pc is using an 8800GT card).

It'd be a slightly risky, but if you even found one super duper cheap with windows XP on it, that'd still work (just stay off the actual internet with it because it's super insecure). If it were only meant as a box pc for EQ.

Ha, I love reading that thing simply for nostalgia, because reading it for correct information was an act of futility. According to the guide, Barbarians could be Shadow Knights, Dwarves loved hanging out with Ogres (try go giving Cornflunk a hug in BBM!), many of the spell lists were wrong, etc.

I don't remember how, but it got torn in half at some point with the cover missing, and now I only have the first half. It's still so much more fun to read than the Luclin or LDoN ones though.

Edit: Looks like OP has a revised version, which may explain some of the confusion from a few people. This is probably the reason it was revised.

Edit 2: Lol, just found this review on Amazon for those who want a chuckle.

None that I'm aware about, but this exists if you ever feel like playing a DnD-esque game with friends:

I got this just for Everquest. Make sure to get the option for a graphics card and I got a $19 SOlid state hard drive. Just over $200 and is amazing for EQ.

Bought one of these to replace one of my box machines (work laptop ;) ). It honestly runs EQ much smoother then my desktop, granted my desktop is running a i7-2600. I’ve got a GTX 1080 in it, but it seems the newer gen CPU in the NUC has a much bigger impact. The M2 SSD in the NUC is much faster then my dated SSD in my desktop as well, so the NUC actually zones faster then my desktop too heh.

EverQuest: The 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition Book Has some info but it focus' mostly on EQ2. Nobody has really done one. There's a lot of interviews on the web you can find if you know their names or in game GM names to search for.

Look at craiglist or ebay for corporate i5 or i7 laptops

I have also seen @ Bestbuy the openbox sales, you can get a new i5 for around 200 sometimes
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-elitebook-14-refurbished-laptop-intel-core-i5-4gb-memory-160gb-hard-drive-black/1738754.p?skuId=1738754

If you dont know much about computers or how to load windows then may be a little tough so I would recommend avoiding anything without windows/hdd

Like here is an i5 for 140$

Get a 100+ gb SSD drive
https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Force-120-2-5-Inch-SSD/dp/B00V5M1NRG/ref=sr_1_52?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1486585226&sr=1-52&keywords=ssd&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_four_browse-bin%3A6158692011%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A4929543011

As far as upgrades...

  • Ideally get an ssd drive, many of the used corporate laptops dont have HD's
  • Ideally 8gb of memory, most will come with 4gb which works but mem is cheap.
