I've had this truck for a little over a month, and other than one weird issue that came up once I've loved everything about it except the old ass looking stock yellow halogen bulbs.

I did several hours of research, it seems like most people that wanted quality LED bulbs went with Diode Dynamics SL1s. Those were constantly out of stock so I kept searching for something else that could be a direct swap and still fit completely inside the headlight housing with the stock dust cover.

I ended up getting Morimoto 2 Stroke 2.0s for both Hi and Lo beams. I got some rando brand LED fog lights because I didn't care as much about something I'd only be using intermittently:

Fogs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CTMSWY2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_uxL5BbZKHPGYY

The Morimotos were $60 less than what Diode Dynamics is selling, they were in stock, same 3 year warranty, and they went in easily! I've had other LED bulbs in different cars and the fan noise was really noticeable, these things hardly make a sound in comparison to a lot of the fan cooled bulbs I've seen around.

I only installed these today but I drove around tonight and I'm pretty happy with their output, they're more than twice as bright as the stock lights and street legal with a good beam pattern that isn't pointing skyward and blinding other drivers. For anyone else looking to upgrade from the stock halogens, hopefully this post will save you some time and money!

>what headlight assemblies for a 92-96 f150 arn't garbage / are a upgrade?

Looks like it's just going to be OEM. Here is a pretty good deal.

>is there a modern headlight tech that has properly been adapted for these this older generation? I don't want to add hid/led to my primary lights unless its safe for other drivers.

Unfortunately, no, since Ford moved away from sealed beams. Your headlamps use 9007 bulbs, which can be made better with these.

>I plan to upgrade the wiring when I replace the headlight assemblies. I'm a 12v junkie and this is nothing new to me. I also plan to add some lighting to use during super rural driving.

This is a smart idea; Ford often underfeeds its bulbs to increase their life. Crown Vic owners often only get 11 volts to the lamps, with the alternator pumping out 14 volts. At 11 volts, 9007 bulbs put out 500 lumens. At 14 volts, 9007 bulbs put out over 1500 lumens. Triple the lumen count for nothing more than a wiring upgrade.

>I also plan to add some lighting to use during super rural driving.

Good idea, I would try to stick with E-code driving lamps, like this.

I have this license plate mounted camera on my super crew and I love it. You can't see the far ends of your bumpers though, which isn't as bad as you might think. This is what I have and it satisfies me. If I had a camper shell I would mount it to the top side of it for best visibility.

Camera was included with a boss audio radio I purchased, I didn't include the radio here because my model has some bugs. You can easily find a touch screen radio replacement or a dedicated screen and still be in your price range.

u/ShiftyAsylum · 2 pointsr/f150

This is honestly a fantastic picture, I love the wheels and Raptor style grille on this. The Anzo headlights and LED taillights would do wonders for the looks of this truck too. They have an LED center brake light as well. If you don't need perfect reception on the radio, a stubby antenna might look better too.

I have a 17 stx. Haven’t done any major upgrades yet but cheaper things I’ve added are

  • husky floormats off Amazon Backseat Front Seats (console style)
  • Found a used ARE campershell on Facebook marketplace for $500 not color matched but $500 was too good a deal to pass up after pricing out a brand new shell. Hoping to get it sprayed with bed liner eventually, I kind of dig the two tone.
  • [Black plastidipped all the chrome F150 badges on the side fenders and tailgate] (https://i.imgur.com/Mmp6iM7.jpg)
  • DeeZee tailgate assist
  • Peeled off the STX decals in the back, just looked dorky to me. Came off easy with just my fingernail.

Future stuff I want to add include

  • Subwoofers. Maybe it's just me but the sound system is totally lacking. I had 2 12's in my SUV before owning this truck and I constantly find myself missing them.
  • Leveling kit
  • Will probably also plastidip the wheels after seeing a few other folks do it to their STX wheels. Otherwise keeping my eyes on Craigslist or Facebook to eventually get a set of raptor takeoffs.
  • LED headlights eventually. Crazy expensive it seems for a nice set though, those will probably wait for me.
  • You could get the FORSCAN device and make changes to your truck/computer system, I haven't done it yet but will eventually.

Pretty happy with the appearance and light output, we'll see how they hold up.

Someone stole my antennae, so I purchased this. Works Great, and I get better reception to FM over stock.

I have a 16' canoe and a '14 FX4 with the 5.5' bed with the Extang Trifecta folding cover (that sits on top of the bed rails).

I installed the Back Rack with the c-clamps that allow it to sit above the cover, and I use the hitch-mounted Extend-a-Rack in the low, farther extended position so the canoe sits on an angle above the roof and just barely clears the closed tail gate.

TONNEAU ADAPT - 50112 https://www.amazon.com/Backrack-50112-Tonneau-Cover-Adapter/dp/B01GWD2OVG

It's too dark for pics now... and the Extend a Rack is still buried in the shed... sorry.

I'm not sure if you can fit all three boats on this setup... but if you look at some of the hitch-mounted ladder racks, you might find something that is wide enough to fit all 3.

This is what you want. Well worth it and easy install.

u/_derx · 1 pointr/f150

great question as I have been wondering the same thing. For my 2015 I've been hovering over this one:

A typical XLT tailgate is basically hinged with a cable to limit its fall. So when you open it and just let go, it can drop pretty hard/loud. The tailgate assist is a shock absorber like device that you can attach that causes the tailgate to drop smoothly. My truck is my baby (my wife thinks I'm nuts because I protect my spray in liner with a blanket :-D), so, I like the gentle drop :-).

Here's the one I installed -- about $25. Cheap upgrade for a luxury feeling feature.

Spec-d from Amazon Spec-D Tuning 2LHP-F15015JM-TM Black Projector Headlight (Led Rim) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZ62IJU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WiD7CbWH5AW63
They're ok for the price, but after 2 years they are already starting to crack. The led driving light is cheap, so I changed them to proper morimoto hid, and added switchback turn signals. The projector cutoff is clean and adjustable.

u/wepudsax · 5 pointsr/f150

Took me forever to find a good one. My dog steps on it all the time. I finally found this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S0ALT3E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/impossibleimposters · 1 pointr/f150

I am using these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MFABBZW/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They have an interesting gap down low in the light pattern, (6ft in front of truck or so) but fog lights fill it in.

Full disclosure, I had these lights that were setup for a HID kit. May or may not be different with what you have.

Side note, if anyone has any idea why my driver side low beam keeps going out randomly (not fuse, not bulb) would be great!

u/boourrns · 1 pointr/f150

Here's something incredibly minor: I just put a tailgate assist shock on my '17 today. It takes about 10 minutes to install, feels great when you lower the tailgate, and only costs $25.

u/fazzno · 2 pointsr/f150

Here’s the built right seat release: https://www.builtrightind.com/products/builtright-industries-f-150-rear-seat-release

I went with the “OCD center console” from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XIY8NNQ/
Cheap plastic, nowhere worth $25 but it fits and works well.

u/Mc_Lovin81 · 2 pointsr/f150

OEM projector replica's IMO look the cleanest aftermarket headlights for this model. if you're up for it. open them up and drop in HID projectors. i have the OEM HID projectors but swapped the projector for EVO X-R 2.0 projectors and they're much better. there's also these which are ok.

u/klarnox · 1 pointr/f150

I also installed an aftermarket remote starter. Another simple plug and play install...

For ForScan, I went with the wired OBD2-USB device https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F0GVBWY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A lot of people use a bluetooth version, I just didn't want to have to worry about the BT connection dropping in the middle of a "write" and have it mess something up.

Make sure you request your ForScan software license as soon as you order your device, it takes about a day to get approved.

I got the Anzo's and the LED grill lights from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KBP9RRK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015ZXPTXO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These are the H7 LEDs I used. (You can't reuse stock H11s) http://www.ebay.com/itm/LED-Headlight-Conversion-LED-Headlight-Bulbs-8000-Lumens-6000K-Plug-N-Play-H7/192063990764?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 They're unbranded versions of the Oracle's that Stage3 sells, but for about half the price. http://www.stage3motorsports.com//5232-001-Oracle-4-000-Lumen-H7-LED-Conversion-Kit.html

I am by no means an expert but when I researched this for my 2018 STX Screw, it looked like the truck was not remote-start ready. You are likely in the same boat. I plan to buy one of these off amazon once I stop procrastinating...
