This is the one I have. It's nice, big but nice, with two or three episodes per DVD. The linked ones do have the documentary Farscape: Undressed which I believe was very good but very rare to find. And that is an amazing price.

edit: Amazon UK equivalent prices: no deals, but the R2 DVD set is £59.37 (which includes The Peacekeeper Wars unlike the US release), and the region-free Bluray set (no PKW) is £79.49.

Also, perhaps the most detailed review of the Bluray's specific quality (applicable to all territories as it is region-free):

So Farscape finally makes its way to Blu-ray, but it definitely comes with a 'buyer beware'. I say this because, as you may already be aware, the 35mm negatives and prints used to create this landmark cult series have gone on an Australian 'walkabout'... they're nowhere to be found. This led A&E to source the highest quality versions of the episodes in existence, which happened to be PAL 720x576i master videotapes, and employing the use of state of the art upscaling algorithms and other digital trickery, they have created an upscaled 1080p 'HD' transfer. As a result, while you should not expect anything like a series of similar age sourced from original film negatives, the results are still impressive. There is a subtle overall increase in sharpness and detail in comparison to the DVD's, and a definite increase in quality as regards compression... or rather lack of it compared to the previous DVD sets. Contrast and colour have also been tweaked to show the details that were already there in a far better light. What you end up with is a 'psedudo HD', for want of a better description. Of course I'd have preferred real 1080p from 35mm film, but I absolutely love the set all the same. If you don't feel confident of purchasing the set based on what I have to say, seek out the interview online with New Video's Dan Kenny, and the accompanying before and after screenshot comparisons. You will see that the increase in detail is subtle to say the least, but it is there, and there is an overall sharper look to the characters features. Of course it still has a certain softness to it, but I guess that really couldn't be helped given what they had to work with.

This is for all the "it should have come in widescreen" brigade: The first 3 seasons were SHOT in the 1.33:1 aspect ratio. That's "full screen", or 4:3... i.e. NOT widescreen. Meaning on Blu-ray you have forced black borders at the sides of the screen on a widescreen TV. This is a GOOD thing. It respects the way the show was produced, and to have gotten a widescreen transfer from the source material they would have had to pan scan/zoom. [...] Farscape Season 4 was shot in 1.78:1 widescreen, so that plays in widescreen... filling the entirety of your 16:9 TV.

Seeing as they couldn't give us an all singing, all dancing full HD picture, they have really gone to town on the audio. The DTS-HD MA track is a whole world away from all previous releases that used compression based formats. There are sounds here I have honestly never noticed before, and the sweeping title score really gets the ol' goosebumps tingling. Channel separation is amazing, and the rear speakers are respected as much as the central speaker's dialogue. It sounds amazing... and very punchy.

All the extras from the last DVD set have made the journey over, which will entertain fans for many hours. The audio commentaries from the previous set are also present and correct. Unlike the previous DVD release, we also have subtitles, if only in English. However, the real meat on the bones of the set's features is an exclusive, newly shot 36 minute full HD featurette, 'Memories of Moya', featuring the musings of the stars and production crew as they look back on their time making Farscape. As all the previous DVD extras were made some time ago, this new featurette gives fans a new and fresh perspective as regards the cast and crew's thoughts on Farscape.

tl;dr: video has been upscaled to 1080p HD from the best existing masters (PAL 720x576i), not quite as good as taking from the original negatives but still damn good. Seasons 1-3 are 4:3 full-screen as originally shot, Season 4 is 1.78:1 widescreen. The soundtrack has been made bloody fantastic. All extras from the DVD set are included, plus some new ones.

The sad truth of it is, there are a lot of stories that are similar in some way to Farscape, but I don't know that any (of any medium) are truly like Farscape.

What aspect of Farscape were you seeking? The character relationships, the human-alone-in-space (or just among strangers) aspect, the lawless band of semi-heroes, the genuine creativity of it (strange aliens and customs), the military aspect, or something else entirely? You'll probably get better results if you can narrow down your request. :)

If you like the variety of races and societies in space, a really wonderful book (and possibly the closest I've found in feel to Farscape) is Hellspark, by the late Janet Kagan. It's incredibly creative and culturally diverse, plus it takes place on a newly-explored planet, so you have all the neat technologies and wildlife that go along with it. It's also full of clever humor and a variety of colorful characters, much like Farscape. There is no military presence, however, or really much physical conflict outside of exploration and discovery, so if that's what you were looking for I'd look elsewhere.

And you're absolutely correct on all points. Development can have started, storylines and such, but they do need funding before anything can happen.

I'm sure the actors wouldn't mind returning to the universe. They had the Farscape mini-sodes that they put on The Nerdist's YouTube channel with a few of the cast and producers narrating, so there's definitely interest on their end. They just need funding, and, as you said, that's unlikely, given its relative obscurity.

Right now the big thing seems to be reboots. JMS wants to do a reboot of Babylon 5 on the big screen. Star Trek got its reboot. They're remaking The Stand. It is getting a remake, as well. Jumanji. Ghostbusters. So many others. The X-Files is making its return next week after almost 15 years off the air (minus a film in the universe).

Farscape probably wasn't popular enough to get a reboot. I'd be interested in seeing how many Blu-Ray sales they had to warrant a 15 year anniversary edition when they already had the series on Blu-Ray and DVD. Them putting it out on Blu-Ray twice means there's definitely a market for it, but big enough for a sequel film? I don't know.

And I don't know if I want a two hour film set in the Farscape universe when you have to introduce at least a few new characters, not the least of which is a teenage D'Argo Sun-Crichton. Would it continue from the comics? If so, would they provide a short recap at the beginning?

I'd prefer a short mini-series. First episode, or at least a chunk of the first episode, would have to tell what's happened since the baby was born. Then a couple glimpses of his childhood. Then he can be a teenager and the plot can begin.

But what about the cast? Only two are in anything on a regular basis now.

Ben Browder would have to wear makeup to look younger in those early scenes, since he hasn't aged well in my opinion (hell, I haven't aged well).

Claudia Black still looks good, so no heavy make up for her. She is doing continuous work now, though.

If Chiana is still there, she is already in makeup, but Gigi Edgley was barely out of her teens when she started on Farscape; she's still younger.

According to Virginia Hey, she basically got shunned after requesting a lighter schedule; they sent her away and never asked her back.

We could through Anthony Simcoe in for an Obi-Wan ghost reference or through a flashback.

Jonathan Hardy is the only one of the main cast who has passed away. I don't know if they would include Rygel out of respect for him.

If they brought back Paul Goddard, he was the youngest of the main cast if you believe it.

Wayne Pygram was younger than he looked. I thought for sure he'd be over 60 now.

The comics say Jool is dead, but other than Claudia Black, Tammy Macintosh is the only one doing anything regularly.

Hell, even Grandma, Utu-Noranti Pralatong, Melissa Jaffer is still alive and kicking at 79. They could bring her back if they wanted. Makeup for her character was pretty heavy anyway. Just furthers her Grandma look. In the comics she got young again, but then got old again, supposedly meaning she was dying, so she may not need to be cast.

Perpetual regular guest star, David Franklin, playing every rank all the way up to Admiral Braca, isn't doing anything regularly. Doesn't look like he aged much, either.

Neither actor who played Jothee, Nathaniel Dean and Matthew Newton, are up to much these days. Captured or not, Jothee was still alive last I checked.

So, let's assume all the living cast whose characters are all alive suddenly are available. The script is written. Blu-Ray sales are through the roof. Could we get another movie or series?

I'd take a 6 episode miniseries revival over a movie if possible. Reintroducing a universe to old fans and introducing it to potential new fans at the same time is a tedious process, and I don't think a film is the right medium. Serenity confused the hell out of people who hadn't seen Firefly, even with its opening explanation. They're going to want to create new fans. How do they do that and still make something to satisfy the old fans?

Bleh, I think about things too in-depth. Let's just get some funding and see where it takes us!

This is the best disc version of the show, definitely better than the DVDs.

u/LeoChris · 4 pointsr/farscape

It's on the Archives DVD that only was included with a purchase of the complete series set, it also has Farscape Undressed, among other goodies.

Amazon interestingly has some pretty cheap listings for it. I can't vouch for those, though.

The interview itself (which I sadly haven't seen uploaded anywhere) is quite insightful. I don't know when it was conducted, but it was clearly post-Farscape and Virginia explained what exactly the issues with the make up were. Apparently the reason why it wasn't a bother for Gigi is because she didn't shave her head and was thus able to sweat.

Those always just looked like glowsticks to me, pretty much just this I think, with the tips cut off.

The books continue the story lines of several of the characters, and it's a pretty decent read.

It's available on Blu-Ray now from Amazon, but you need to be able to play a region 2 disc. I bought it but haven't watched it yet so I can't comment on the quality.

I also finished PKW last month and I looked up the comics that have since been released. It picks up right after the last scene of PKW and I love them all. Definitely pick up the Omnibus Vol. 1 if you want the rest of it. I will warn you though that Vol. 2 was cancelled but you can still go pick up the issues individually.

I bought this one a year ago and it works fine. Also, fyi if you have a Playstation 4, you can change regions up to five times.

They have trade paperbacks on Amazon. Not too pricey, either. Here's the first one: http://www.amazon.com/FARSCAPE-VOL-BEGINNING-Farscape-Paperback/dp/1608866211

You can buy it on instant video:

I believe you need an international bluray to watch those editions

Edit: I tried the link I just gave you and they took it off the store, it did not show up as unavailable for me because I own it already
