I find that the shaft hairs and the hairs above the pubic bone don't actually hurt to pluck. Maybe they hurt the first time but they don't hurt at all now. In fact I've plucked enough that they just kind of slide out with a gentle tug.

Always pluck in the direction of the hair. If you don't get the root or the hair breaks off at the base you want it to keep growing in the right direction.

Plucking after a hot shower is idea. Exfoliate your junk in the shower and then pluck when you get out. I use one of those nylon loofahs and scrub the area I pluck every time I take a shower. It exfoliate the light skin grow that can begin to trap the newly grown hairs.

Get a good pair of tweezers. This part is critical. Most dudes don't even own tweezers and if they do they are probably some shitty pair that came with a little grooming kit somebody gave them as a Christmas present when they were a teenager. You need to invest in a good pair. I have two pairs that I use... the Tweezerman Stainless Steel Slant Tweezer and the Tweezerman Stainless Steel Ingrown Hair Splintertweeze. They make extremely high quality tweezers with a lifetime guarantee and free lifetime sharpening (if they ever seem to lose their gripping power you can send them back and they'll re-grind the tips for you).

The first tweezer should be your everyday tweezers. The second, the needle tip ones, should be for in grown hairs and careful use once you've gotten good at using the regular tweezers. I've gotten crazy good with the needle tip ones can I can do my entire tweezing area in a matter of minutes with a creepy spider-spinning-a-web like efficiency. If you start off with the needle ones you'll probably end up accidentally stabbing yourself in the sac. Still they're good to have on hand for the occasional ingrown hair.

On tweezing your sac: You can do it... but be prepared for a little more pain, a little more bleeding, and a marginally higher chance of ingrown hairs. The hair follicles on the sac are very close to the surface and the scrotum is blood vessel rich. The follicles are also freaking huge. Be prepared for a little bleeding when you first do it as those roots come out like you're yanking bath plugs out.

I'm trying to think of any other tips hmmm. Oh... hold the skin with a little bit of tension but not too tight. If you hold it too loose you pull the skin up pretty good when you pull the hair and that can smart a little bit. If you pull the skin too taunt the hair usually breaks off halfway down or annoyingly close to the skin. Experiment with a medium tension.

Edited to add:

Now you may be asking yourself, after reading this far... "God damn? Is it worth it?"

Yes. Yes it is.

I have all the benefits of a nice smooth shaft and pubic area without the regular irritation of shaving (plucking doesn't irritate my skin at all). No matter what the area is soft and smooth (even when the hair grows in it is growing a brand new hair and not pushing up a jagged piece of stubble). Your SO will appreciate it (my wife, for example, liked the shaved look but hated how, even after a good shave, there was still some irritation on her vulva/vaginal opening because of the residual stubble).

Give it at least a month to get used to it and do a good job thinning out the hair. After that if you decide you hate it... you'll at least have nice silky new hair grown to show for your effort instead of a stubbly angry bush.

I'm 6'1" and, until recently, was ~140lbs average for a few years despite usually eating >3000cal/day. My lowest sustained weight for ~6mo was 130 pounds on the same general diet. My job is also computer based (full-time web developer) and I enjoy my fair share of trees.

I've recently been changing this, though it's a tough battle. I've recently (last week) hit 160lbs and, although I drop here and there, I have a general upward trend. Here's how I've changed it:

1. Protein smoothie 2x day. This isn't a meal replacement, though -- drink it with breakfast. I drink it with 4 eggs (cheese optional), a bowl of cereal, and an apple (and anything else I'd like).

  • I use 2 scoops of vanilla CytoGainer

  • 1 cup (NOT measurement, just whatever cup you're going to drink out of) of frozen strawberries

  • ~1/3 of that same cup of baby spinach. Don't worry, you can't taste it.

  • Fill enough of your blender to cover the top of the strawberries, protein, and part/all of the spinach (depending on how frozen versus liquidy you like it) with some sort of fruit juice. Apple juice works well, but I have recently liked cranraspberry juice.

  • Blend. No ice/milk/yogurt needed. Buy a good blender if you don't have one, though.

  • I usually get about 2 of whatever cup I used full of smoothie.

    2. Gym. A lot of gym. Like, 20 times/month. Really, as much as you can take without hurting yourself.

  • Do 10 minutes of moderate cardio to warm up (but NOT more or you may lose weight). I prefer the stair climber on a high setting. Because we may not have the same stairclimber available: I climb for 10 minutes exactly and climb 55 stories (it's one of the measurements the machine gives)

  • Weight training. I realise this is really intimidating, especially being a tall, skeletor-like guy. I am still intimidated and I am starting to look pretty fit now. Just try not to worry about it. Also be VERY careful about your exercises and do a lot of research. You'll really hurt yourself otherwise if you're like me. I was pretty damned weak at that weight and would just kinda put every bit of me into an exercise to make it doable, when really you have to relax and only use the muscles you're trying to exercise. Even things like where you put your elbows is crucial or you'll be out of commission for a lot of exercises for a couple weaks while your shoulder heals.

  • Stength training. Yes, different from weight training. Look up things like Bosu ball exercises. These you can do from home. It's strengthening the core body, balance, etc.

  • Serious recommendation to get a personal trainer if you can afford it. While I did gain weight before the trainer, I was also doing fairly ineffective exercises and results were monthly... now they're weekly. I have spent a bit over $1k on a trainer (that I just found at my local 24 Hour Fitness as one of their staff personal trainers) and would gladly recommend anybody to do the same if they can.

    3. Eat less sugar.

  • I don't know why, but if I eat cookies/cake/sweets, I seem to lose weight.

    4. General healthy eating.

  • Protein with every meal. Chicken, peanuts, salmon, whatever you can manager.

  • Fruit makes for great munchies. I always carry apples in my backpack. Avoid bananas though. I've been told that those kinda send your metabolism into overdrive. I don't like bananas much, so I didn't bother fact-checking that.

Let me know if you (or anyone else) want to chat more about it. I'd be glad to help you as best as I can.

Gender Identity Disorder is still listed in the DSM as a mental disorder. I think there are arguments to be made both ways about whether that's more a good thing or more a bad thing (realistically it's probably some of both).

As far as I understand, it's not at all a disorder in the sense that most psychological disorders are. The issue is that the "disorder" (the dysphoria - a sense of overwhelming wrongness and badness, contrast with "euphoria") is generally caused by a mismatch between a psychological property (the individual's gender) and a set of physical properties (the individual primary and/or secondary sex characteristics) as well as a social property (how the individual is seen and treated by society at large).

So, there is a disorder in the sense that, and to the extent that, this mismatch causes a great deal of suffering in someone's life. But let's take a hypothetical person who was assigned male at birth, who has a penis and male secondary sex characteristics, but who has a female gender. Again, the psychological component of this "disorder" is the female gender - but can we really call having a female gender a mental illness? (Of course, as sexist as our culture can be, perhaps some would like to.. but that's sort of tangential.) And the difference between this "disorder" and at least the vast majority of psychological disorders is that it is, I believe, largely fixable - my understanding is that most trans folks who transition experience are much, much happier afterward; the "disorder" is pretty much solved. And it's important to note that the fix for this is a physical fix, not a mental one - from what I've seen, if you asked most trans people "Hey, if you had a magic wand that would allow you to live your life comfortably as the gender you were assigned at birth, would you use it?" the most common answer would probably be something like "No - why would I want to change who I am?".

Further factors of course include the fact that "mental disorder" is a pretty stigmatizing term, and has a set of connotations that don't really make sense for this issue, and the history of access to hormones and surgery being contingent on the diagnoses of psychologists, some of whom would (and in some places still do) dick people around if they don't hear exactly the narrative they're expecting to hear. On the other hand, I've heard concerns voiced that were it removed from the DSM, it might be harder for trans individuals to get the treatments that they needed, for insurance reasons.

(You can read more on this subject here.)

> Anyway, I was hoping maybe someone could shed a light on what exactly it means to be a "girl" or a "boy"? Is it based on likes/interests/personality/tendencies? I mean, personhood is pretty hard to define already, so how do you define a female person?

That's a tough one to get at, because I think you pretty much have to rely on people's own self-reported experiences, and nobody can get at what other people's experiences are. I can't really answer this one clearly (shit, I'm struggling with my own gender identity as it is), but I can highly recommend to you, if you're interested in reading further on the subject, the book Whipping Girl by Julia Serano. It gets into a lot of stuff about trans issues, the way our culture defines and interacts with gender, the "scapegoating of femininity" (as she puts it), etc. It's also available in Kindle form if you want to pay a little bit less or if you're worried about people asking awkward questions about what you're reading (I read it on my phone, personally, for that reason).

> Will we eventually be recognizing people with multiple personality disorder as multiple people stuck in one body in society?

I doubt it. As far as I've heard, psychology in general isn't even really sure that Dissociative Identity Disorder is a thing at all - it's sort of elusive and hard to demonstrate, and some (maybe a lot?) of people who ostensibly had it turned out to be faking it (see Wikipedia).. On the other hand, if it is a legit thing? Yeah, I think that would be a fair way to treat it. (If that's a subject that interests you, and if you're into hard, gritty sci-fi, allow me to recommend Peter Watts's excellent book Blindsight, which features among other things a character who does indeed have multiple personalities, who are pretty much distinct people.)

Congrats on quitting! My boyfriend is trying to quit. Someone else on another reddit thread a while back recommended this book.

The Easy Way to Stop Smoking

I read it before giving it to him and thought it was a great book. He's reading it now and finding it very motivating and is pretty much ready to quit. It's all about positive thinking.

Good luck! And congrats on the baby! You will be an amazing mother!

ah okay, well to an extent that explains. Pushups and pull ups are great for building strength, but once you reach the point where you can do 3x20 pushups, 3x10 pullups, give or take, you stop making significant strength gains and it becomes more of a question of endurance - weighted pullups/heavy compound lifts are more effective to build muscle from there. You should try it! its very satisfying to feel yourself improving with time.. But yeah, I've only been lifting half a year, you're probably stronger than me :D but if you're interested, this is a great book to start http://www.amazon.com/Starting-Strength-3rd-Mark-Rippetoe/dp/0982522738

Speaking of sleep - I've heard changing your pillowcase every night can help. You could also lay down a fresh towel on your pillow at night.

Also look into vitamin E oil. Sometimes skin can get stuck in a bizarro place where it overproduces oil because at some point it dried out. The usual reaction is to try and dry out the overproduction of oil, but that backfires because your skin feels the need to produce even more. Vitamin E oil is a good way to help your skin retain moisture and heal (it can help fade scars) without too many "extras" that might worsen your acne. (NOTE: your acne may initially be slightly uncooperative, but my friend went from rosacea-level acne to virtually clear with vitamin E oil.) I've been using a product called Miracle Oil (http://www.amazon.com/Earthly-Body-Miracle-Healing-Formula/dp/B000I5IR0C) which I mix with aloe vera (for consistency, mostly) with what seem to be good results.

I've also heard some people swear by drinking apple cider vinegar. Add a bit to cold water, drink often, do this for about a week. Supposedly it can flush out your system (since zits are, in a way, your body flushing out something "ucky"). Again, initially there may be a flare up but in the long run it is (supposed) to help.

. . . That got way more involved than I intended. :x

Creative Zen X-Fi. It's more expensive now because they're not making them anymore, but I got it for about $80. The buttons are perfect for my tiny fingers, it's durable, the screen is beautiful, music transfer and management is wonderfully easy, I don't have to use iTunes, and the sound quality is pretty good. http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Player-Built--Speaker-Silver/dp/B001CDLUXA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1317591437&sr=8-6

While many will say that dictionaries have always been aggregates--and even the history of modern dictionaries are questionable--to simply say that language is fluid strikes me as both i) inconsiderate to its rich history and ii) an excuse for reckless abandon. That is, at least, for most people.

Sure, you'll get some strange regional abstractions like nonplus, but when you have words like Iregardless which serve no purpose--well, that's just stupid. If somebody like Oscar Wilde or E.E Cummings is employing wordplay that's on a different level than a sufficient number of people incorrectly using a word.

My issue with this isn't just diction. I'm actually quite forgiving on diction and spelling mistakes (as I make a tremendous amount of them). Words have a rich history; which means they have deep connotations. To imply all synonyms are interchangeable would be a great insult to the quality of language. I doubt anybody would make such an argument. So, on a certain scale, people acknowledge that words are more than majority-accepted diction (i.e. connotation).

So, as I implied earlier, certain people can shape language with the greatest of care and mastery. My argument extends to the impact things have on literature and maintaining a standard (whether it is to be used in the vernacular or not is not the point). So, when people say, "language is fluid", I am certainly not disagreeing that it is; I am, however, disagreeing that that is free license to not form it to mean whatever we would like.

If I felt people, by and large, were receiving stronger education given their unprecedented access to it (internet, not working in coal mines, etc)--perhaps, I would be more willing to say the masses should shape language. But, as anybody can tell you that has graded college papers in the past 10-years, emoticons are becoming more prevalent. Should we then accept these in formal writing? They are simply pictographs, no? Perhaps that person wrote that emoticon wishing to embeds it with profoundness of the entire volume of Ulysses? I certainly know what they meant to say--at least in the ball park thereof.

(That wasn't so much a refute as an elaboration. I'm not going to refute the claim "language is fluid" in and of itself. I will display my frustration at how it is used though.)

Judging by the downboats, I could be wrong, and it's certainly more complicated than my inane initial attempt at explanation (I can only apologise, Reddit). What I said was based on this book - which by the way is highly recommended as very well-researched, and fun to dip into to find out more about their songs: the author travelled in search of everyone the band was close to, essentially hoping to settle as many urban legends and conduct as many interviews as he could. It's also very readable as the story of how it all began.

Irritatingly it's at my girlfriends' place on the other side of the country now, but I seem to remember a mono-vs-stereo page at the back, with a quote from George saying something along the lines of "We tried true stereo recording a couple of times in the later albums, and we didn't like it so that was that, we went back to mono." Sorry I'm being so vague, maybe I'm misinterpreting what was meant, but if anyone knows better I'd love to be corrected on this one! Maybe I'm confusing stereo recording with stereo mastering here?

side note: wow, not heard that before! thanks :)

So to put on scientific man, this misconception is due to studies which showed smiling makes you happy. But what the studies really showed is being forced to smile makes you happy. One way is to put a pencil in your mouth horizontally without using your lips, which will give you on average more happiness than using your lips.
So the advice is to make yourself genuinely smile (not fake smile, that makes it worse) , i.e watch something you find funny or think of an image that makes you smile.
(I'm taking this from 59 seconds hope it helps :) )

Well, the comic was mostly to help guys realize that nice shoes play an important role, and how the opposite gender looks at you. Girls look at guy's shoes just as much as they do at girl's shoes.

If you think about it, most guys wear really shitty shoes that have no sense of style, or wear shoes meant for exercise/work all the time. In this cases, I don't know what girls think about when they see this though, but it is clear that if you wear a nice pair it does attract attention. You can use these opportunities to talk to them.

It was a bit eye-widening when I discovered this, because I don't know about many other guys, but I never bother looking at other people's shoes. Girls definitely do.

I suppose I can give a link to the shoes that have garnered all the attention I've been getting recently. You can get any pair you like, but it does help if the shoes are unique or a brand that isn't very common.

This is actually a great point. In Dale Carnegie's book How to Stop Worrying and Start Living he points out that if you're feeling stressed about making a particular mistake, think about what would have to be true for that one mistake to have resulted in all your problems. So in this case, one might feel bad about eating extra donuts and think that they are going to fail at their diet, from here you would say: What would have to be true for two donuts to cause me to fail at my diet? The answer would be that the diet is completely dependent upon that single choice, which it is not. I'm not sure if I'm doing a great job explaining, but Dale Carnegie is a fantastic author with great insights into self improvement. His most famous book, How to Win Friends and Influence People is an incredible read as well.

Printrbot Simple 2014 3D Printer Kit, PLA Filament, 1.75mm Ubis Hot End, 4" x 4" x 4" Build Volume Printrbot http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HLSR0O8/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_83nMub124XYMY

This is the updated version of what I have but I'm not sure why it jumped in price.

You should look for one that is inexpensive, from an established company like Printrbot, and if possible built it yourself. I don't know about other printers but mine will break on occasion and it's awesome to know exactly what to fix.

The printer also has a great online community that can offer some help for getting started but for the most part I've had to figure stuff out on my own. For this reason feel free to message me problems if you end up getting one because I was stuck on a very simple problem for two days.

I wish I could provide a better link but right now it looks like most models are above $400. Personally I would shop around a lot before choosing your printer.

There are numerous medical reasons your kitten could be peeing. I have three cats, and one of them we got when he was just a few weeks old, having been weaned just a little too early. He had a severe peeing problem, where he would pee on furniture, on rugs, piles of clothing, plastic bags, and basically anything that he could pee on.
We had him tested for diabetes, bladder infection, and even brain disorder. Nothing was wrong, it was a behavioral thing. Because cats don't understand negative reinforcement (punishment basically) chiding him for peeing only made him skittish around us.
We found one thing that finally worked, and it has worked ever since.
The Feliway Diffuser ( http://www.amazon.com/Comfort-Zone-Feliway-Diffuser-Cats/dp/B003E6WSHK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1321539101&sr=8-5 ). We have the diffuser (never tried the spray). It took about a month for it to help completely, but he has gone years now without peeing on anything other than the litter box. The key is to keep the diffuser full, keep the litter boxes as clean as possible and as smell free as possible (corn based litter with de-odorizer powder works best for us). It will take a little bit for it to take effect, to be patient, but its a better alternative than giving up the poor thing to someone else who might not have the patience to deal with the problem.
Basically its just the pheromone that cats give off in their scent glands that allows them to feel calm and comfortable. I recommend it to everyone who has issues with cat peeing that's not related to a health condition.

Well, all that I know is readily available online, but the LPS wavelength spectrum is much more limited compared to HPS, so, as I understand it, it's much easier to filter out than HPS, let alone a LED.

Because of the above, LPS lamps render colors like this (the car to the left is red), so they are problematic when they are the only light source and colors have to be represented accurately - but cars already have their own lights, oftentimes LED, for that very purpose, while stores, apartment buildings and the like that may benefit from colors tend to feature their own lighting anyways.

As for the efficiency, compare a random 55-watt LPS bulb from 2004 to the superextramodernfeatured latest LED solutions from the same producer - if the sheets are to be believed, it turns out that, with all the problems LEDs present, they are only some 7% more efficient... And if they intelligently go darker at night, doesn't that just mean that the place either becomes less secure or simply didn't need that much light to begin with?

Neat website, either way! It might seem more trustworthy if it was possible to implement and enforce Let's Encrypt or some better SSL on it, as unfortunately we're going after emotions... :)

It might seem overkill by contrast to a timer, and you have to reset the cooking time almost every time you put something in because it doesn't give you a buffer of time from the point that it beeps to tell you it's reached the cooking temperature, but I really have to recommend the Breville Motherfucking Smart Oven. The best thing to happen to ovens since ovens. It turns off when your pizza is done and there is no way it will burn it if you put the right time in. It's also a convection oven, so it has really good temperature distribution and the "hot spot" issue is well under control. It's one of those things that is kind of expensive, but as soon as I got it, I realized it was worth every penny, and I use it almost exclusively in place of the big oven. It's a lot larger than most toaster ovens while still fitting on a shelf and more than likely you'd have room for it in a dorm room as long as it didn't trip the breaker. It's also a really good toaster and broiler. I also like that it requires far less time for heating than a full-size oven and doesn't heat up the entire kitchen.

Conciseness doesn't mean it's good or that it teaches effectively. Also, just because someone is a professor doesn't meant they're a great teacher.

That said, I enjoyed my differential equations book and class (the teacher was awesome, which is to say the professor was actually a teacher and not just a professor). And I agree that it takes some work to really learn something and not just memorize it. Work that I all-too-often don't put into some of my classes.

And you don't keep the book, you sell it back on amazon.com/buyback 'cause Amazon credit is very useful and all the reference you need is online.

Well, it's interesting you brought that up because most jokes depend on irony - or a meaning opposite of what you're saying. There's actually a bazillion different forms of irony. I know this because I read the first chapter of this book - that makes me an internet hero (an hero for those keeping grammar score) and an expert. I'm like qualified to go on Fox News and talk about global warming.

So anyways, it dawned on my expert mind this morning that irony requires a concept of mind, as in other peoples' minds. Little kids don't really grasp that there's a difference between their own mind and others' minds until they're oh, about 4-ish (making this part up). So, they really aren't hip to ideas like deception, Republican economic policy or more importantly - sarcasm - which is an important part of irony, which is an important part of jokes.

Your welcom!
