Hey,

As wonderful as FFXIV is as a game, please please keep your own real-world logistics as priorities, and enjoy the game responsibly. :)

That said.

If you bought CE on steam, you probably only bought the base edition of the game for what looks like $32 on steamprices. You did get some in-game cosmetic items, though.

Personally, I'd try to refund the CE on steam, and then buy the game from amazon, which has a good deal right now: https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Heavensward-Reborn-Bundle/dp/B00UO4NL9Y This version does not have the fun in-game cosmetic items, but it does have the expansion (normally, buying the base game "ARR" and the expansion "HW" costs $20 each, for a total of $40).

This nets you more playable content if you decide to play, and you also save a bit of money!

I can more or less guarantee that you probably won't miss the in-game items the CE gives. And if you later decide, in a better financial state, that you do want them, you can pay the difference for them via Mog Station, the FFXIV account management site: https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/mogstation/

A few other things...

  • FFXIV has a 2-week free trial: http://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/na/
  • Buying the base game "ARR" comes with a 1-month sub. I recommend activating it at the end of your trial. You can play on the same character, just do it within 90 days of the trial ending!
  • You can buy a "basic sub" for $13/mo, one month at a time. Normally if you buy a "normal sub", it'll be $15/mo for 1 month, or $14/mo for 3 months, or $13/mo for 6 months. The only meaningful difference is "how many characters can I make?" And for FFXIV, which lets you play all classes on one character, it's not much of an issue.

    ...

Depending on how many hours/wk you can play, I'd say 2 months is a pretty good amount of time to play it. The core story (it's a very story-based game, and the writing is excellent, especially later on) takes 70-100 hours to complete. Lategame gearing to the current patch takes 10-30 hours to complete. There's tons of other side content, and to briefly experience most of it will take another 100-200 hours. There's very grindy content that can easily last 200-400 hours if you're interested, but that's a niche thing.

I know I wrote a lot, so feel free to ask followup questions. :)

just bought one of these today for 62$ on amazon with free 2 day shipping with amazon prime.

I spent about 4 hours researching and debating. And here were my main findings. (Note: amazon links ahead) It came down between the Logitech g600 and the Razer Naga / Razer Naga Molten. I really wanted to buy the razer naga molten because it looked the coolest of the three to me. I ruled out the basic razer naga is that the 2012 and 2013 versions only come in emerald green (one of my least favorite colors) which is a minute contention but it was a big enough thing to make me look at other options. When it came down to it I went for durability, economical value, and the most amount of buttons where I found the g600 to be the most superior. Here is the video that pretty much sold me on the g600 from youtube. As well a job as they do in the vid, I feel the speakers are biased towards the g600, but they still provide enough info and personal experience that I don't have to sway my own opinion. Great video review, and I highly advise if you are going to buy a new mmo gaming mouse to shoot for either the g600 or one of the three current models of the razer naga (my vote for the basic version, especially if you can find a 2011 blue version). Another more economy valued alternative is the anker 8000 dpi high precision gaming mouse, which has a total of 9 buttons and great value for the sweet piece of tech you're getting, not even mentioning its very ergonomic shape. Hope this helps. Please note that all the amazon links are to different vendors and I have no affiliation to any of them. Good luck!

Ahoy! I "converted" to KB and mouse with FFXIV - it was my first game played on kb/m rather than controller. Prior to 2013 I'd been a mostly-console player, had played hundreds of games on controllers, and had never seriously attempted to play anything on kb/m.

The other reply said the most important part: just practice. There is a lot of individual variation from person to person when it comes to how you'd learn to play this way, and (crucially) what areas you'd have trouble with, and how you solve them. To give a personal example of that: while things like moving with WASD and the mouse took some time to adjust to, I was pretty much okay with those fundamentals after a couple months. What was KILLING me was hitting keyboard keys with my left hand to use hotbar skills. Generally, if I moved my hand slightly to hit whatever skill is bound to, say, shift 4, I'd have to look down in order to reposition my hand back on WASD to move properly. If I moved my hand to hit a key, then immediately after that there was an AOE I had to dodge, by the time I got my hand back where it needed to be, I already got hit. This also meant that everything past 5 in the number row was off-limits to skills I would need to use with any regularity, and if I DID need to hit a skill bound to 8 or 9, I needed to stop and look to make sure I was actually hitting the right key and not 7 or 0 (the same way I'd need to then stop and look AGAIN to get back to WASD).

Some people like to change Q, E, R, or other letters near WASD to hotbar assignments, but I just found that discombobulating and also preferred keeping Q/E as my strafe keys (which I use a LOT). This specific problem, of trying to use my left hand for WASD movement but also for hitting numbers to activate skills, kept me from being any better than "barely okay" at the game for a few years, even though I'd felt I'd adjusted adequately to kb/m controls OTHER than that one problem.

So I needed a solution that would allow me to move my fingers away from WASD as little as possible, and that solution was an MMO mouse with 12 thumb buttons. Specifically, this one. I use all 12, so my first hotbar is 1-12, 2nd hotbar is ctrl+1-12 (with ctrl mapped to that little extra button next to the left mouse button), and the 3rd hotbar is shift + 1-12 (shift I can hit with my left pinky without moving the rest of my fingers out of WASD position).

Now a 12-button MMO mouse may or may not work for you - it depends on the person. For me, after an awkward month spent adjusting to it, it began to feel totally natural. I can't go back to playing this game any other way now. But my point in writing all that isn't to say "get an MMO mouse", it's to illustrate that the key is figuring out what works for you, and perhaps more importantly, what doesn't, i.e. what your Achilles heel is when it comes to kb/m controls, and how you can solve it.

Re: standard vs. legacy - I dislike how legacy handles camera and character movement so I keep it on standard. I've long since gotten used to keeping my camera angled in such a way that if I need to dodge laterally, I can just right-click to instantly turn my character and then hit Q or E to strafe. This is also how I get around the "slow walk" issue, which seems to be one of the main points of contention when legacy vs. standard is discussed: hitting S in standard will make you slowly walk backwards (useless for dodging out of an AOE), whereas with legacy you'll actually turn and run away. With the camera angled properly, right-click and strafe allows you to run "backwards" instantly (that is, backwards relative to the enemy, even though your character is actually strafing left or right). But this, again, is an entirely subjective choice that's down to which one works better for you. It's worth fully exploring the particulars of both methods to figure out which one you like better.

I too have a hand injury, I suffer from partial paralysis in my left hand from a stroke I suffered. With having this all my life I can understand and relate to this issue. However, over my life I have found some interesting ways to deal with it.

As most have said an MMO mouse will help you a lot. My personal one is the [Logitech G600](https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G600-Gaming-Mouse-Black/dp/B0086UK7IQ
)I don't use this as a claim of quality of product or endorse them in anyway, however, It does work for me. The two main buttons will allow you to move and you can set the 1-12 buttons on the left side of the mouse. I use that 3rd mouse button as a substitute for Ctrl which allows me to bind CTRL + 1-12 giving me a total of 24 buttons on my right hand alone. However, this does mean you have to press them all with your thumb which makes double weaving potentially difficult as well as staging your moves on the hotbar in a way that allows you to be efficent.

The next Item that I use is the Xbox one elite controller

Now this is quite pricey however I use this to allow myself to play games that make extensive use of L1 and L2 which if you play with a controller you will have to find ways to use those. Using this controller you can grip with your right hand and comfortably hit R1 and 2 while also hitting L1 and 2 via the paddles on the grip of the controller. It does take a little while to set up and can still be quite frustrating when you need to hit moves , however, this will let you play games beyond FF14 (just in case you enjoy games like say, dark souls)

And Finally, I have my 3rd option which is a bit of a jury rig however it does work. Using A fight stick kit I made a usb joystick which using Joy to key have set up as WASD for the 4 directionals. It is a tad awkward to use but in combination with thew g600 allows me access to everything that I need. I will say if you are very vocal via Keyboards it is cumbersome to have to remove your hands from the mouse and joystick to be able to type. However, this also is the set up I use for FPS games being able to set reload, jump, crouch and what have you to the mouse.

I hope these options help and if you have any other questions you can be sure to PM me and I will respond as best and swiftly as possible.

u/archdukeofswag · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

Since you already have an MMO mouse, I would definitely recommend that. I started using one just this year, and it took me about two weeks of consistent playing to get used to it.

It's hard to drop the muscle memory of instinctively going for a click in an emergency, but you have to try and make a conscious effort to remember to use your buttons, even if it takes you a couple of seconds to try and remember what button to press. You'll get faster over time, so just start slow.

A good way to practice is if you've been meaning to learn another job, preferably something that starts at level 1. You can get used to both the class and button pressing since you won't have too many abilities and buttons to remember. For your current main, practice button pressing on dummies.

As someone else said, I second the purchase of a G600 if you're interested in a new MMO mouse. I love the G600 because it has a G-Shift button, which is basically a button next to the right click. It typically functions as ctrl, so you can press Ctrl + 1 to 0 with one hand.

Good luck with your button pressing endeavors!

Pretty much any keyboard or mouse will work, though I'm 90% sure only the basic functions will work, so dont go out buying like some super legit gaming keyboard and mouse with a ton of extra macro buttons and functions on them, as im pretty sure none of that will work. Best bet is to just get a basic wireless keyboard and mouse imo, that way you can use them from wherever youre sitting with your wireless controller. Personally I use mainly just the controller, and a keyboard for typing, but I don't really need a dedicated mouse for playing the game since again, I use the gamepad, so I personally use this guy- https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Keyboard-Multi-Touch-Touchpad/dp/B005DKZTMG Since the only thing I really use the mouse for in FF14 is rearranging/resizing my UI, a trackpad is good enough for basic stuff like that, and I like the convenience of having it all their in one package. So I just play with my controller and have the keyboard sit in my lap or just sitting next to me so I can just grab it when I need it to type or like I said want to rearrange my UI or whatever.

I've been playing PS3 since launch due to waiting for my iMac to be repaired. You'll need a copy each because the key is tied to your PSN account. The two-install rule of PSN does not apply in this case. The monthly fee has been discussed already as has the GCD.

I want to take a moment to talk about just how great the console port is, though. Because I've played bottom to top on multiple classes and I think they've done a fantastic job of it. The free PS4 client upgrade is an amazing offer, too, and might even bring me back to console after the fact. The only recommendation I have is something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Keyboard-Multi-Touch-920-003070/dp/B005DKZTMG/

The little USB receiver is unobtrusive, the range is good, and it gives you a keyboard for proper typing (as well as quicker access to inventory and the like) and also gives you a mouse pointer when you need it in a pinch.

Next best thing - http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Realm-Reborn-PC/dp/B008SBZD9G

I've heard mixed things about steam DL, so read up if you take that route. Anyway, I just started and it took about a week of casual play and two days of solid game play to get back up and into endgame-ish areas.

With the Challenge Log, Dailies, and everything else SE has added in the recent patches, its an enjoyable game to restart. Dungeons give good XP, the world is continually growing - hardest part is finding a place to fit in. If you do come to Gilgamesh, hit me up - Aykatu Katamaru

If you have money to burn, maybe try a Logitech G13: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G13-Programmable-Gameboard-Display/dp/B001NEK2GE

I've never used one myself, but I helped a 1-armed FC mate when he was looking for something to replace his dead naga for his monk and that seemed like it might be a pretty decent solution. It has the added bonus of being useful still after you get out of the sling too.

Though it would be nice if anyone with one could chime up and say how well they work.

If you really want to craft, you can do what I did, knowing I'd need all crafts at 50 I raised them all simultaneously. I would go from 1 to 5, then 5 to 10, etc all the way to 50 with each job. Every 5 levels I'd craft myself a new HQ set of equipment for all jobs to use for the next 5 levels and convert the old set.

By the time I hit 50 on all jobs I was able to nearly max meld all my accessories from the converted materia I had leveling the jobs. I probably would have had enough if I had made new equipment the moment it was spirit bonded and converted it then...

Hey Sky, this had been discussed a LOT (at least 3 times today I have seen this thread).

So, just to warn you, you'll likely get some... unkind responses (or at least down votes).

But, I would recommend you go here: http://eorzeareborn.com/new-player-information/ and start reading for your answer to #1.

2, i think it looks good. It isn't the best I have seen, but considerably better then a number of newer games.

3, The story line is quite good.

4, do you mean to play? Amazon.com is the purchase price. As for monthly costs, it's $13 a month, i think.

However, from someone who had played GW2 for awhile, I am going to be glad to stop seeing the "buy chest in store for chance to get" type of thing.

u/Adiel-the-Blue · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I used to have the razer naga mouse, wasn't bad but I had some issues with it pretty soon, double click, wheel pushing stopped working, and I read this happens pretty often, so once it stopped working completely I got this cheap one https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-Programmable-Precision-Buttons-Windows/dp/B00GU8W5AE

While it does feel and look a little cheap, I'm super happy with it, had it for like a year now, no issue whatsoever. A very pleasant and unexpected surprise.

u/Yithar · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

My friend posted a similar thing from Amazon lol. It seemed like a pretty good deal so I went and bought it. He was like get the digital copy and I was thinking I might as well get the DVD because download times and Amazon Prime.

If you can (and are right-handed), consider getting the Logitech G600. It's consistently on sale, very durable (mine lasted like 4 years before I replaced it), and great for MMOs.

But before I bought that, a good tip is to keep your important skills (GCDs and low-cd oGCDs) close to your movement keys and keep less-frequently used ones further out. Keypad is a great space for your buffs and super situational skills (like Feint, for instance).

You should also consider your opener and rotation and use skills that are often used together near each other. For example, as a NIN, I kept my GCDs on 1, 2, 3, and 4, and kept my mudras on E, R, F, and G.

u/ajr30 · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I bought this copy on Amazon when it was on sale a week or two ago. At the time, it said it came with the base game, Heavensward, and 30 days free. I haven't added the code to my PSN account because I'm waiting until I'm ready to play it.

My questions are: I have an SE account on the PC and played FF14 about a year ago, so will I still get the free 30 days? Will the any sub time added let me play on both PS4 and PC (i.e. is sub time cross platform)? Wil I also have to upgrade my PC copy to Heavensward to play on the PC or will I just be locked out of some content on PC but have the expac on PS4? Finally, when does the game time from my Amazon code start? Will it start when I add the game to my PSN account or whenever I log into my SE account for the first time on the PS4?

Sorry to ask so many questions. Thanks in advanced!

u/Bliven731 · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I know you said PC download, but amazon appears to have the physical ARR + HW bundle for 29.99. This also would give you the special code for the amazon deal that is currently going on which includes a few cool things in the game, like the maid and butler outfits and the white fat chocobo.

https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Heavensward-Reborn-Bundle/dp/B00UO4NL9Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1467310724&sr=1-2&keywords=ffxiv

Also, since you have to completely start over, you can make a new SE account and do the free trial while you wait for the physical copy to get there.

u/cybrturtle · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

What is the cheapest way to buy the game (+expacs) on pc? is this the cheapest? complete edition for $47.99?

Which noob server should i start on? (i saw something about gold and feathers when you start?)

I will offer the recruit bonus to anyone who is willing to answer my questions.
Edit: recruit bonus went to Quinzelette because they were the first response.

Thank you for the answers guys! I've ordered the Amazon game and am excited to upgrade my free trial!

u/SakoGuru · 3 pointsr/ffxiv

Go to Best Buy and get yourself the Kindle Gift Cards (Amazon Gift cards). They are branded Kindle, but they are just strait Amazon money. You can use Best Buy cards/reward credit to buy them too.

Then just hop over to Amazon and buy it there. As of writing this they have PC Digital CE, and physical PS3 CE still.

https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Heavensward-Reborn-Bundle/dp/B00UO4NL9Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1491405929&sr=8-3&keywords=heavensward

Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/63jqhp/psa_arr_and_heavensward_10_each_or_20_for_the/?st=j155273j&sh=6fa39554 Apparently Humble Bumble has it on sale at the moment!

There's the amazon link to the bundle you need to buy, it includes both ARR and Heavensward. All servers are cross platform so you can play with PS3/4 players as well as PC, you just have to have individual licenses if you decide to do both (Can't buy PS4 license and play on PC, for example).

The newest expansion, Stormblood, arrives in June and offers two new playable classes: Samurai and Red Mage. you will only be able to play these classes if you've purchased Stormblood, though.

Having access to Heavensward will give you the Au Ra race at the beginning, but you will not be able to play the Machinist, Astrologian, or Dark Knight jobs until you reach Heavensward content.

Right now you can play a free trial of FFXIV. The playtime is unlimited, but there are restrictions that are applied (can't level up past 30, etc).

If you're so sensitive that you get bent out of shape over people responding to your question with sarcasm, then maybe you should consider explaining your reasoning before you put yourself out there on the Internet...

Either way, if your left hand is not fully functional, I would recommend the Logitech G600 mouse instead of macros. This would put most of the control in your right hand and even allows you to control two full hotbars with only your mouse. It sounds to me like that would be a better solution for you, overall, even if you get your macros fixed.

As an i90+ MNK, I would advise against macros. It makes it extremely difficult to recover from rotation mistakes, since you often have to use "creative" methods to get the macros to fire properly.

If you had explained your situation - which, btw, you don't have to provide a "personal life story" to do - you can get a lot more useful information, since you've provided context, rather than just expecting us to give you the answer you expected with minimal background knowledge. It's presumptuous to think that a community of savvy enthusiasts would not balk at the idea of a non-optimal method when it's already been discussed to death. On top of that, when you do provide context, you may get info you weren't expecting that solves your problem even more efficiently, which I sincerely hope my mouse suggestion does for you. Either way, you can't take offense because we didn't know that you had a physical ailment.

u/redderpanda · 1 pointr/ffxiv

No. I just bought the game this last weekend, and got a bundle on Amazon, for the digital code for the base game and HW packed together. It was only $30 list price. I paid less because I had some credit built up, but the point is that it's pretty cheap that way.

I was using the trial before that, and I basically didn't have to do anything, other than link the download code to my psn account. Super easy.

u/Kusaha · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I'm playing on the PC with keyboard + mouse setup for ages, but when it comes to MMORPGs like FFXIV I always recommend getting an "MMO mouse" like the Logitech - G600, it makes so much easier to reach your skills with less confusion, sure you need practice to get used to it, but it's well worth your time.

u/t0talnonsense · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Personally, I'm a fan of the Logitech G-600. I've used the Razer equivalent, but I gad the scroll wheel sticking issue within a year. I've had this one for about a year now, and haven't had any problems with it.

The extra button up top is actually really useful. It activates "G Shift," which basically lets you map a second set of keys to your mouse while you're holding it down. So the left side buttons? They are my standard 1 to =, plus my ctrl+1 to ctrl+= as well. That lets me keep my pinky on the shift key for easy access to a third hotbar's set of sills. That's 36 skills without really having to move my hands at all.

u/DrakonMaximus · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

Aren't you able to purchase a time card from amazon or another retailer like that? I know this doesn't solve the bigger problem (support itself and your blist ip) but at least it is a bandage that will allow you to continue to enjoy the game. Sorry if I missed something about why you arent using the time card in your post, I just woke up and I am not fully awake yet. Good luck!

I find it hard to play on just keyboard and mouse due to all the buttons you need.

I really like using one of those MMORPG mouses (pretty much mouses with a numpad on the side), takes some time to get use to, but are great once you adjusted to them.

There are alot of them, but here are the link for the more popular ones (I'm using the G600 atm)

Razer Naga Chroma

I also use a Logitech G13 Gamepad

Not exactly what you asked but:
I use this wireless USB mainly, and love it. I got mine on a deal but even full price it is only $30. It's light, easy to turn on off, works with ps3 and I haven't had to change the batteries in over a year.
I just leave the dongle plugged into my PS3 USB port all the time. Maybe you have one of those PS3's without USB?
http://www.logitech.com/product/keyboard-k360

I imagine a similar bluetooth one would be just as well.

~~I do NOT personally recommend the controller keyboard.
My fat fingers don't get along with it and I think it has a hard time with forwardslash in Realm Reborn, or some special character, I forget which.

You can save a lot of money by getting the FFXIV + Heavensward bundle for $30, digital copy.

MAKE SURE YOU CLICK "BUY DIGITAL: $29.98" BELOW THE "PLATFORM" CHOICE BOX

https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Heavensward-Reborn-Bundle/dp/B00UO4NL9Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1493128079&sr=1-2&keywords=ffxiv%2Band%2Bheavensward&th=1

This bundle is the best option, otherwise you'll be paying like 20 bucks for the main game, then another 20-30 for the expansion.

u/Foshkey · 3 pointsr/ffxiv

Two options.

  1. Bind keys like Q, E, R, F, Z, X, C, V to your hotbar. That, combined with 1-5 will get you a full bar. Spice it up with modifiers like Ctrl, Alt, and Shift and you're good to go with 3-4 bars, which is the most you need at the moment.

  2. Get an MMO Mouse. This is how I play. Twelve buttons on the side = twelve abilities, and then combine that with modifier keys. I'll always recommend this playstyle.

Just as a point of interest I had zero issues ordering the game (NA version) through Amazon all the way from New Zealand, kinda curious what country you're in to be getting the stink eye from Amazon of all places.

Good luck sorting it out though :)

u/AveryFenix · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I recommend this mouse instead. It's cheaper and works just as well. I've had mine for 2 years now, still going strong. I haven't had a single problem with it. The buttons are slanted so you can easily tell where your thumb is without looking. It also has weights in the bottom that you can adjust to make the mouse feel just the way you want it. I took all the weights out and it's very light. The cord is braided to stop it from doing that weird curling thing cords like to do, that's my favorite part. No mandatory software unless you want to mess around with the lighting effects or change the button next to the left mouse button to another bind. You can change the mouse sensitivity easily just pressing up or down on the mouse, there are about 6 presets.

u/Honuska · 1 pointr/ffxiv

May I ask why you want to "believe" in BestBuy? Personally I've had more problems there than any other retailer. Great and friendly staff in the store, terrible online support and pricing (from my experience).

I would also reccomend Amazon.com, you receive the EA code in minutes as well as a $10 gift certificate when you pre-order ARR through them. Below is a link, if you're interested.

u/PahaRuma · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I use this one, but it's a keyboard with a touchpad as opposed to a mouse.

It was recommended by somebody who has kids and apparently survived things like having juice spilt on it, being dropped, stepped on, etc. I've changed the batteries twice within a year of using it and never experienced any lag!

I bought a 60 day time card from amazon and after I punched it in, I automatically got the vet rewards for 30 and 60 day. So time cards for sure will unlock your vet rewards right away.

I'm not sure what you mean by steam gift cards. AFAIK, I only paid for the steam base product, and my subscription is maintained strictly in mogstation through my SE account.

EDIT: I went into my mogstation account and found a button that allows you to use steam payment. It's right next to add a time card button.

This is the time card that I bought: https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Online-Time/dp/B00O15486W

u/Meryl-D · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Best deal at the moment might be on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Reborn-Download/dp/B00CMSCV4Q
There's no difference whatsoever, the disc isn't really needed. So except if your father values physical copies, might as well get a direct download. :)

u/NekoUrusai · 44 pointsr/ffxiv

Here is the page for the NA timecard.

Edit: Thanks mods for fixing the thread!

As for the Timecards, they seem to be going out of stock only temporarily as they restock their supply of codes from SE. They've come and gone about three times now so just be patient and check back in 30 minutes to an hour. The promotion info returns to the timecard page as well when it's in stock so there's nothing really going on besides running out of codes temporarily.

Good luck!

u/AnxietyTuna · 3 pointsr/ffxiv

I bet it's your mouse. I have a cheap Chinese mouse (M901 Perdition) that did this exact thing a few months ago. I would enter instanced content and do the first half smoothly and then suddenly right clicking to turn my camera would cut my frames in half for a split second. You can tell it's not an issue with rendering because right clicking and turning the camera a couple degrees (not enough to cause a huge dip in FPS due to rendering) would drop the framerate by about 10-15.

Fortunately for me it fixed itself and I don't have to worry about it anymore but something that would fix it temporarily is - while FF14 is running - opening the manufacturer's mouse software tool, changing the DPI to some arbitrary value, applying it, then changing it back to my desired value. I wish I knew why this worked for me. At the end of the day it was a software incompatibility between my mouse's drivers and FF14. Didn't happen with any other games. Even ones with similar control schemes and/or higher graphical requirements.

The point of this is to offer my anecdote to hopefully dissuade you from completely ruling out your mouse as a vector for framerate issues because it happened to me and it was maddening. Get yourself a cheap mouse, see if the issue persists, and return the mouse.

FFXIV and Heavensward are on sale on Amazon.com right now : https://www.amazon.com/FINAL-FANTASY-XIV-Heavensward-Windows-Pc/dp/B00TUEOSMS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475082806&sr=8-1&keywords=heavensward&th=1 . I live in Canada so I can't order on amazon.com, but my sister lives in the US and has suggested that she buys the product for me and forwards me the game code after. We wanted to make sure however that the code she would buy for me is not zone restricted.

Is anyone aware if the codes you buy on Amazon.com have to be added to game accounts that are based in the US, or our situation would work out fine?

Thanks!

u/gtjio · 7 pointsr/ffxiv
  1. Yes

  2. Yes, Final Fantasy XVI Online Complete Edition is what you'll wanna look for, and you can get it on either PC or PS4

  3. No, as these are solo instances

  4. Yes, you just won't be able to do any solo instances as a party

Palace of the Dead is a randomly generated dungeon that you do 10 floors at a time. It uses an independent leveling system, so the levels you gain inside the palace don't directly affect your levels outside the palace. After each set of 10 floors is completed, you gain a large chunk of experience towards that class (Between levels 30 and 50 you will gain upwards of half a level worth of experience for one set of 10 floors).

You can choose to go in as just the two of you alone, or if you can get matched up with two other random people to go in as a party of four. There's no particular benefits of going in with less than four people, but you'll still be able to clear it for the most part.
u/youngoli · 1 pointr/ffxiv

In addition to what everyone said, if you have a mouse with extra buttons (like Mouse 4 and higher) then it might help to download some kind of driver to map those keys as Alt/Shift/Ctrl (preferably only when you have FF14 in focus, if your software supports that). This opens up more possible keybind combinations since it's more comfortable to do without contorting your hands.

Or you could be like me and get an expensive MMO mouse.

u/PoisonSandwich · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Alright I am very new to the game and have a few questions about the steam vs amazon way of buying it.

So first, I downloaded the demo from steam, and the launcher through there as well and also think I made an account through there.

After that, I played a bit enjoyed the game and decided to buy it through amazon. this is the specific one I bought However, when I try and transfer my account it says that "The code I entered cannot be used with a steam free trial account" and asks me to purchase a copy of the game.

My primary confusion is do I have to buy another thing or make a new account? I do not know what steps to take from here unfortunately

u/Rg_RANDROID · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

My (extremely comfortable) setup:

I have 12 buttons on the side of my MMO mouse (the top 6 of which are always right there under my thumb), which i've mapped to F1 - F12. The mouse I use also have a RING FINGER click button; I mapped that to CTRL.

The mouse I use:
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G600-Gaming-Mouse-Black/dp/B0086UK7IQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484873608&sr=8-1&keywords=g600

WASD = movement

hotbar 1: 1234, FR, F1-F6

hotbar 2: ALT + 1234, FR, F1-F6

hotbar 3: SHIFT + 1234, FR, F1-F6

hotbar 4: CTRL + 1234, FR, F1-F6

(Again, I have CTRL mapped to the ring finger click button on my mouse.)

With this setup, I can use any one of the 48 skills on my hotbars without moving my left hand off of WASD or moving my right hand off my mouse.

I almost quit playing this game after a few weeks because I was having problems similar to yours... and then I invested $40 in that mouse. Best $40 I've spent in a while.

before you get used to a sloppy keyboard... consider this!
program your movements to the thumbstick, and your abilities to the buttons --make use of the other thumb buttons as shift/ctrl/alt, and that expands your range! you can get all abilities mapped onto the same 12 buttons that way, freeing up the other keys for things like jumps, menus, 'enter', etc.

You don't need expacs right away to enjoy the game, but the value of buying it all at once makes it a decent proposition. It looks like Amazon still has it for $48 with Prime.

Honestly i used to do stuff like this all the time. But it still felt way too busy for me. So i bought a mouse with 12 buttons on the side as i play a lot of mmos. It's honestly so nice i only use my keyboard for WASD, CTRL, ALT and Shift. Everything else is bound to my mouse. I could never go back now.

If you're looking to get one i recommend (like many) the Razer Naga. Or if you're on a budget (Like me) I found this one on amazon:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/UtechSmart-Programmable-programmable-Customizing-Manufacturers/dp/B00FNKMVUO

It does the job and I've no complaints with it. It even comes with it's own program so you can change the macros on it.

Here is my UI in game: https://imgur.com/2MCLAr0

u/aznchris · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I actually have one of these mice and it's not too hard to play single handed. I play WHM though so YMMV. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Gaming-Backlit-Programmable-Buttons/dp/B0086UK7IQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517814080&sr=8-1&keywords=g600

To move camera, hold RMB. To move character, hold LMB and RMB. Then you got the standard LMB clicks. It comes equipped with 12 customizable thumb buttons and a ring finger button that changes those 12 buttons into Ctrl + 12 more customizable buttons. The rest of your skills you can just click on them with LMB.

With this setup, I'm still able to comfortably play the game fully including dungeons and raids.

Where does it say that's a requirement exactly? All I saw was:

> Any purchase of $19.99 or more from the video game category on Amazon.com will qualify you to receive an Amazon promotional code that will grant you six exclusive in-game items!

The 60 day timecard here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O15486W/ref=s9_simh_gw_g367_i1_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=XSY2MTZDV65NWPC2QYQV&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=6aad23bd-3035-4a40-b691-0eefb1a18396&pf_rd_i=desktop - is under the Video Games category, and says "Sold by Amazon Digital Services LLC"

I'm just curious where people are getting this from, does it only apply to physical shipments? Where does it say so?

u/SupaStaVince · 1 pointr/ffxiv

> "Amazon Bonus Offer: Purchase FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward and receive a free copy of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn! Codes will be sent by email within 2 business days after purchase. Valid while supplies last. Offer valid only when shipped and sold by Amazon.com."

You can also get the PS4 version through that link, but...

> "Prior to installing Heavensward, customers need to register their code for A Realm Reborn."

...idk how this will work on the PS4 version since I don't own a PS4.

u/Verothous · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

Linking a bundle with both the game and expac included below that is only $50. You will want to have the expac around the same time you hit level 50 at the latest, that way you get exp while doing the lvl 50 story missions. For an MMO ffxiv has a great story but the longevity in the game comes from doing end game content with the people that you meet in game. Whether that is raid, crafting, questing, or w/e, the people you are playing with will mainly be doing things that require you to be max level as a group. FFXIV is a story driven mmo, but you will always need to have the latest expansion to get a good and fulfilling experience from an MMO since that is where people will be spending their time.

http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Heavensward-Reborn-Bundle/dp/B00UO4NL9Y

Given the vagueness of your situation, I'm not sure if this is any better for you than just giving Square your CC info...but I get my time cards from Amazon:

Final Fantasy XIV Online: 60 Day Time Card [Online Game Code] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O15486W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_vNQsybV6SWRKD

The code shows up in your email within about five minutes of purchase, and blammo, you're in.

Alternately, if you need to use cash or otherwise pay locally, you can get a game code from GameStop even if they're out of the physical cards. When I last purchased game time through them, the code was simply printed on the receipt--no physical card needed.

Hopes this helps!

u/Ehrand · 1 pointr/ffxiv

if you are looking for the ps4 version:

You haven't mentioned region so I'm assuming NA region:

Playstation Store digital version

Amazon.com physical version

for PC just click the amazon link and switch the platform to PC.

Those bundles contain the base game and Heavensward expansion. That's all you need for now as both versions come with a free month subscriptions :)

u/legacymedia92 · 3 pointsr/ffxiv

First off, have you played the trial yet? it's unlimited duration, but you are limited to level 35 on any class. if not, don't buy anything yet, play the trial.

you should buy ARR and Stormblood, as Stormblood includes all Heavensward, or buy the "Complete edition" That includes everything, but this will not be available until the 20th.

Edit: TL;DR: free trial, ARR+Stormblood if you get to level 35 before the 20th, otherwise just get the complete edition. Also don't get the steam version.

Easy solution is any wireless USB keyboard will work. In fact if you hook up a keyboard/mouse you can even switch the interface to use those instead of the controller for everything. Not just typing messages.

If you are good with small keyboards. This on attaches to the controller: http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Wireless-Keypad-Playstation-3/dp/B001ENPDJA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374595884&sr=8-1&keywords=Ps3+keyboard

My personal preference is just the keyboard and mouse on the coffee table.

This frees up my left hand for focusing on movement and CTRL/Shift/Alt.

u/xdionx · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I would put getting a keyboard as a must. It makes your quality of life so much better as a PS3 user. I have this one http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Wireless-Keypad-Playstation-3/dp/B001ENPDJA/ but also have another Logitech full size. I don't need the full size one anymore as it was more helpful at game launch when I was explaining dungeon mechanics to people.

Another upgrade I would suggest that is def not necessary but makes a world of difference for later in the game is to update to a SSHD in your PS3. It is about $100 and helps the system with load times, AOE dodging (it paints them faster on the ground) and rendering of your environment and other users. http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Solid-Hybrid-2-5-Inch-ST1000LM014/dp/B00B99JUBQ/

You do not need to purchase Heavensward initially. You'll be capped at level 50 though.

Dragoon and Pally are both in the initial release. If you want to play DRK though you'll have to purchase Heavensward as you'll need to progress in the story far enough to get to Ishgard.

I'd recommend the PS3 Keypad.

http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Wireless-Keypad-Playstation-3/dp/B001ENPDJA

It hooks onto your PS3 controller, is minorly intrusive and will allow easy typing/chat. It also has limited mouse functionality (the keys become a touchpad if you press a certain button). You use your thumbs for the typing so very similar to phones.

u/Allinvayne · 6 pointsr/ffxiv

You don't need to purchase to try it out. There's a free trial.

Here's a hard copy of the base game + expansion, best deal I could find. You just missed a 50% off sale from the Square Enix store that happens semi-frequently.

It's worth noting that wherever you purchase from, there's a Steam version and a SE version. Steam version lets you pay through Steam Wallet. Whichever version you buy, you need the same one if you buy the expansion.

u/Petra_Abelli · 3 pointsr/ffxiv

I second this, I've been using the Naga for years now and don't think I would ever want to go back. Razer has had the market to themselves for a long time, but I stumbled upon these while looking for the naga and g600 links. It's good to see that there's some competition coming in the market, but I couldn't tell you if these two are worth getting.

Hey! The free trial can be played without buying the base game. Also I believe I found the all in one pack you are looking to buy! https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Stormblood-Complete-PC/dp/B071CMXD5H/

Is that what you wanted?

u/BrokeMyCrayon · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I'm thinking about upgrading from the free trial to ARR+Heavensward, but i wasn't sure if i would be able to attach this deal on amazon to my existing trial account. I'm only level 20, so it wouldn't be a huge deal to restart, but if i could avoid it, I would like to do so.

Thanks for your time everyone!

EDIT: I'm aware there's a stormblood package for 20 dollars more, but this is all i feel comfortable spending right now.

u/xerngard · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I'm been trying to Google on how to purchase this game and still pretty damn confused lol.

How do I even buy this game once the trial has ended? I see sites selling physical copies of the game? And then there are digital copies? And then there are game cards as well...with different sites selling them.

I've no idea where to start because I have never played a p2p game before 😅.

I'm from Singapore.

Does buying the PC download Standard edition for $9.90 give me the game and some free time after my 14 day trial is over?

Why is it $49.99 or something through the FFXIV website?

u/ExKage · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Game Time Card on Amazon when you are done purchasing they will give you a code.

This code needs to be put into your friend's mogstation account -after- he puts in your referral code. He must login to mogstation and first put your Enter Refer a Friend Code. Then when he does that and he gets a notice saying "recruitment code registered" in his email, he adds Game Time.

His screen will look something like this when he adds Game Time. I can't find an image to show the mogstation with entering the code.

REMEMBER he needs to enter your referral code -first- before gametime is bought or a subscription is bought.

u/Zaccea · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Psst. It's $20 on Steam, but it's $15 on amazon. Also I've been told that locking into Steam locks you out of the ability to play on PS4 (should you ever have the option). I can't confirm that tho so don't take my word for it.

u/Arcana10Fortune · 1 pointr/ffxiv

You'd want this instead of the one you linked since it seems like that's for Heavensward only (and the bundle).

There's no benefit aside from unlocking a new race to play prior to hitting 50.

u/tswys3 · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

Just in case you do decide to grab it for PC there is an awesome deal on Amazon at the moment. Only 10 bucks: https://amzn.com/B00OM6SAK0

This is what I have been using for 2.5 years now. Went to this from a Razor Naga that was like twice as expensive that lasted maybe 1 - 1.5 years tops before breaking. Live an learn I guess.

u/NullAndVoidEntity · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

The discounts are on the amazon product page: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Reborn-Download/dp/B00CMSCV4Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376847491&sr=8-2&keywords=ffxiv

You get them automatically when you preorder, you don't have to do anything special. As far as using the code goes, I doubt Amazon really has any way of tracking it. Even if it is an issue I'll talk to Amazon's customer support and explain the problem, their customer service is usually really good at handling refunds in my experience.

u/Toraxa · 1 pointr/ffxiv

If you're in the US then the Amazon sale for ARR is here. They also have a combo pack for sale as a boxed edition here for a combined $30 for both the game and the expansion, which is a pretty solid savings. Unfortunately at the time of my posting it's out of stock. You could buy it to lock in the price if you have some trial time left and are willing to spend the time to save the money.

You should be able to log into the mogstation here with your existing account on the trial and add the key from your purchase. That'll activate your current account and give you 30 days of game time. However it'll also cut off any trial time you have left.

  1. I made a new account
  2. Entered in one of the discover card codes.
  3. Bought this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CX9L30W/ref=dsvrt_review_asin_detail
  4. Received code via email on the new email address.

So I can verify that this still does work. I am now sitting on like 4 early access codes from Amazon.
u/arkhira · 1 pointr/ffxiv

The Logitech G600 here qualifies. I have been using this mouse for FFXIV for a while and its great.

If he is more into Razer then this Naga Chroma qualifies.

u/Sanguinary_Squirrel · 1 pointr/ffxiv

If I purchase the Stormblood Complete Collection from Amazon, is it a physical copy that requires an optical drive to install? Or is it just a pretty box with a code to download everything from online?

u/Aroth_Khashar · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

For anyone who already has ARR and is needing HW to get started on its MSQ before the 16th (when Early Access unlocks), it looks like you can still buy Heavensward as a PC Download from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/FINAL-FANTASY-XIV-Heavensward-Online/dp/B00TUEOSMS/?th=1).

Though whether or not spending $20 to get started on Heavensward's story 3 weeks early is worth it is something you might want to consider at this point.

u/griminald · 4 pointsr/ffxiv

The digital download sales have been suspended due to server issues. If you're concerned about being unable to play it, wait a week or so, or at least wait until this restriction's been lifted.

Normally I'd say "Hey if you're going to get the game anyway, you might as well buy a physical copy now", but if you buy now and can't play much for a week, you're burning part of your 30-day trial period and there's no guarantee Square's going to give a few days back in "compensation" for time lost yet. How much you care about that is up to you, really.

I ordered a physical copy, but only because Amazon doesn't allow redeeming Amazon Points (from their credit card) for digital game downloads.

u/BarbequeChickenWings · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I know you're probably not going to order from them, but this is the link to the normal non-collector's edition on Amazon, just as a general FYI in case you change your mind.

A Realm Reborn for $10 - PC download

Heavensward Expansion for $20 PC download

Looks like they just didn't discount the combined package, so just buy both of these if you want the same thing through Amazon digitally at the discounted price.

u/TheFunkyHobo · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Well, not exactly. Here's a pic from the setup screen. I have it keybound so that the leftmost set of skills is used by holding shift and hitting the corresponding G9-G20 buttons on this mouse which are assigned to the 1-0 and -/= keys (e.g. Shift+G9 is Aetherflow, Shift+G10 is Cleric stance, ect). The second set from the left is used by just hitting the mouse buttons without an additional key bind (e.g. G9 alone is Physic). The third set is with alt, and the 4th set is with ctrl. Keybinding was a bit of work (took like 20 minutes) but it looks like this.

u/PenguinPwnge · 1 pointr/ffxiv

A Realm Reborn is the base game (whch also includes 30 free days, forgot to mention that). There's only one expansion so far: Heavensward (with a new one called Stormblood that's coming out in June).

Just on Amazon, I'm seeing the bundle for $23.98 for PS4 when the two separate are $28.38 and $13.77 (though normally it's $40 and $20).

u/VillainousInc · 4 pointsr/ffxiv

On Amazon, when searching for Stormblood I saw a "Complete Edition" launching at the same time. I'd download the free trial for now, and preorder that.

u/mcht42 · 3 pointsr/ffxiv

Amazon currently has the box copy of the combo pack (ARR + Heavensward) on sale for $29.99. It also qualifies for the summer promo items.

Note that the digital download is not on sale through Amazon and is currently $59.99. Make sure you pick the right one!

u/gzboli · 1 pointr/ffxiv

It seems like they are discontinuing heavensward products... PSN store doesn't even sell it anymore.

The "Complete Edition" does not release until Stormblood comes out, so you wouldn't be able to play until then.

Amazon has the ARR + HW bundle for PC. But it is $30, so you end up spending an extra 10.

  1. you won't be able to apply a EU code to a NA game account. Also, define 3rd party. If amazon, then its okay. If its one of those sites like G2A, those keys are grayish and could potentially result in more trouble down the line.

You can apply a game key to your trial account
u/RedBeardRaven · 1 pointr/ffxiv

I have a Logitek G600.

Here is how my HUD looks and the keybinds are as follows.

Numpad 1, 4, 7, and 0 on the 7th hotbar. Numpad 2, 5, 8, and - on the 8th hotbar. Numpad 3, 6, 9, and + on the 9th hotbar.

Below that is CTRL + Numpad buttons (which is the G-shift button the the G600) is the same corresponding numbers as above.

As you can see the majority of my keybound buttons are for my instant cast abilities. That way your left hand can focus on moving and you don't have to stretch yourself in trying to hit a button and dodging at the same time.

[Edit for link issues.]

u/LostInVanadiel · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Not your question, but if you're prime you can get the 20% preorder discount on the physical copies (these aren't collectors edition, but you'll likely be able to upgrade to the digital collectors separately like with ARR and HW). Amazon typically ships for the copy to arrive on launch day. I'm not sure how this affects preplay.

u/niie · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Gamestop has said "you can only order this online". In the states that is.
The PS3 CE is available on Amazon As others have said, currently it seems that the PC CE is only available directly through the Square-Enix online store.
They are also offering digital versions of the CE on the SE store. As well as post release digital CE upgrades. Either way, it looks like SE is being extremely frugal with physical CE's this time around. Seeing that the last few MMOs that have released with Collector's Editions have not sold through. There are still 1.0, MoP, and Cataclysm CE's on store shelves.

u/sir_vancelot · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

I am playing the free trial and I am considering purchasing the game for the first time. The official site lists the base game as $30, but on Amazon I see this $20 code available: https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Reborn-Download/dp/B00CMSCV4Q Is there a difference between the $30 version and the $20 version?

u/Chained_Icarus · 1 pointr/ffxiv

But they did. They now just have a "starter edition" that doesn't include HW since SB became available to buy but the default base game boxes include it now.

They probably just also rolled it into SB for ease of upgrading.

u/Makoto_H · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

It's actually not on sale anymore. You could get the game + heavensward for $20 in the black friday sale.

It's just $30 because it's a physical copy and they want to get rid of stock. It's also $30 for PC physical for example but $60 digital.

The same bundle costs $26 at amazon btw. I bought it at that price like a month ago so it should stick around til the end of the month.

u/SeppTB · 1 pointr/ffxiv

Really depends if you want to pick up on your old account, which you probably do.

You cannot have both a Non-Steam and Steam version of the base + expansion. They must match.

That said, Amazon is selling the PHYSICAL AND DIGITAL version for $20 as well, which is the non-steam version and will match your current version, you'll need to wait for it to ship and then just apply the key to your account, and it'll work:

I'm currently dual-booting Mac and Windows. From my understanding, the licenses for these platforms are separate. The rule of thumb that I've heard is "30 days per account per platform".

The current plan is to buy the Windows game code from Amazon for $15.
If I buy the Mac bundle ($20 on SE store), will I get an additional 30 days of subscription?

It's a decent deal for me to pay an extra $7 once for a 30 day sub if it also allows me to switch between platforms. I know it works between console/PC, but I just want to make 100% sure before I pay extra that Mac and Windows aren't grouped together as "computer license" or such.

I purchased a 60-day time card and got my promotional code in the mail. When you look at the item in the store, scroll down to the "Special Offers and Product Promotions" section (or on mobile, there's a drop-down menu next to the "buy" button that shows all promos going on for that item). Right under that, it says:

> Spend $19.99 or more in the Amazon Video Games Category to receive six exclusive in-game items for "Final Fantasy XIV." You will receive your code by email within 2 business days. Here's how (restrictions apply)

I didn't know about it until 30 minutes ago when I asked in the Thursday Megathread, so I purchased the time card, got an email within 5 minutes, went to the link it gives me, entered the code, and Boom, got the codes for the 6 items. I'm only using a few, so I'll post the rest in the megathread.
