Note all keyboard mouse combos use Esc for back. Need to use enter to select at main menu but sub menus the mouse select works

Mele f10
have to flip over for Esc/back button. Works good pretty accurate. Cue and rewind work in circle select area. Have to flip over and hit space bar to play/pause

Logitech K400. keyboard/touch pad my favorite but big. Home button works as home. Play/pause, cue and rewind keys work

Logitech N5902, exceedingly akward IMHO. Worked great with HTPC but not good with FireTV. BTW do not buy at amazon if you think you may want one it is too expensive. If more than $30 you are paying too much. Once again not good for FireTV but good for HTPC.

Oh, you're right. I forget sometimes because of the others I have. I actually do have a working Bluetooth keyboard as the one you describe (this one to be precise - QQ-Tech Mini Bluetooth Keyboard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BALK9CM?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf ) but I would like something with a better number layout (I.e, the 4x4 grid instead of the horizontal keyboard numbers). Easier to change a channel without seeing the remote.

But you have great point, as a regular remote would do the trick then, although I need to place the receiver visible, which is why I liked the wireless receiver in the first place

u/zoidberg82 · 1 pointr/fireTV

Kind of... Not sure if the Fire Stick has any different capabilities than the Fire TV but yes I did get it working but the results were kind of laggy. Now granted I was trying to watch my friend play WoW on his TV so maybe it was a graphics card issue or something but it's worth a try I suppose.

I used this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L5HQRGS/ref=pd_aw_sims_2?pi=AC_SX230_QL60

And this:
http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot/

Just install Air Receiver on the Fire Stick and Air Parrot on your PC.

u/xenyz · 1 pointr/fireTV

> Support AirMirror. The best screen cast performance on Android. Fully support IOS12 and the latest Youtube video.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L5HQRGS/

I don't have it or use it but am basing it off this review

> I installed this on older models of the Fire Stick and it worked very well with easy installation and operation. Then I installed it on a Fire Stick 4K and it failed to work and locked up my phone. I emailed the developer and got a return email within 3 minutes. They responded: "Please change to 1920X1080 and use TextureView in AirReceiver advanced setting. This setting works best on firetvstick 4K." I did that and restarted the Fire Stick and my iPhone and all worked very well.

u/candurin · 1 pointr/fireTV

I was struggling with this as I just purchased the firetv stick and I have an iPhone.

After sideloading the Xfinity TV app and settings.apk., this now works perfectly for me: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BX0YKX4 (alternate: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BALK9CM)

if you hold down the right mouse stick and use the trackpad, it scrolls just like the native android app is supposed to.

Yes, it's a $20 solution, but the keyboard has many uses. If there is ONE caveat, the trackpad area is small, so it can take multiple swipes to navigate the guide.

Hope that helps.

u/reg036 · 2 pointsr/fireTV

Well the Stick does not have a USB input for drives so that rules that out period.

The Box does have a USB input but it does only fat32 (NO NTFS) so it is a max of 2 TB drive and files up to 4GB,that will rule out 720p+ movies.

Without setting your hard drive up as a network share somehow then I would not recommend the AFTV. Someone in another thread suggested this as a plain media player for attached storage:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NO9RRM?refRID=0JF1G7K7R0QJ6AMWASTB&ref_=pd_ybh_a_16

I switched from WDTVs and have both a stick and box, without a good router the stick will be a little problematic sometimes, I much prefer the hard wired box and works great using Kodi with my NAS. I also will pop some things on a microSD card to play real quick.

Also in another thread, someone recommended this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HZWOQZ6?refRID=0JF1G7K7R0QJ6AMWASTB&ref_=pd_ybh_a_17

To turn your hard drive into a network share wirelessly.

HTH

u/krakelohm · 3 pointsr/fireTV

I do not believe you can do that. I snagged a sideclick (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRFY61G/ref=psdc_3236443011_t1_B01N32WC5H) and it works great. You have to set using the TV remote or one that is already setup with the TV functions. You can set any function to any button the remote. I even use it with the new Alexa remote with volume and power since I set a button for sleep. Good luck.

u/FlickFreak · 1 pointr/fireTV

If that's all then a complete reset shouldn't be that hard to recover from. It's amazing what a reset can accomplish sometimes. That said, the 1st gen Stick is getting pretty long in the tooth at this point and the 4K Stick would be a big upgrade.

Also, upvote for the Remo Williams reference.

u/thec0re3 · 1 pointr/fireTV

It only supports version 2 of the controller. I never found any work around. Just went ahead and purchased a controller that was compatible. Not a great digital pad but the analog is pretty good. The model I bought doesn't seem to be currently available but I believe this one is compatible and its the same company https://www.amazon.com/Matricom-Rechargeable-Bluetooth-Controller-Compatible/dp/B01EO5QPN2?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_2596213011

u/Cardiff-Giant11 · 1 pointr/fireTV

im pretty sure this app supports chrome cast type mirroring. i bought got it for the airplay compatibility and it works great. i’ll check the settings to be sure but if you look in the description is says it supports google too

This is the best solution. http://www.amazon.com/x5434-x6C5D-AirPlay-DLNA-Receiver/dp/B00LAT7QV6
But I run into den issues with some apps like YouTube

u/cdlenfert · 2 pointsr/fireTV

For on the go, a Fire TV Stick (gen 2) with an OTG cable is the way to go, unless you need 4K. If you have non-Fat32 drives that hold your media that you don't want to reformat, I'd suggest some sort of file sharing device to make them available over a network. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/HooToo-Wireless-Performance-TripMate-Hotspot/dp/B00HZWOQZ6. I'm using a super cheap PogoPlug that I've enabled SMB sharing on, and it feeds 1080p to my FireTVs flawlessly.

u/NSADomesticUnit · 2 pointsr/fireTV

I use the harmony smart remote in both rooms that I'm also using the FireTV.

This one:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Control-Smartphone-Simple/dp/B00BQ5RYI4

Is the one that I'm using. Best Buy recently had refurbished units for as low as 79$. If you don't want to spend $100 on it, you can order FLiRC and set that up to work with any remote (harmony or otherwise) that you want. I think those are only around $30 or so.

u/AFTVnews · 6 pointsr/fireTV

No Fire TV models support pairing two Bluetooth headphones simultaneously. Here are your options.

Option 1) If your TV has a 3.5mm audio out headphone jack, you can connect a Y splitter to it and then connect two wired headphones to the splitter. This is the best option for audio quality because you won't have any audio sync issues since everything is wired, but it does mean running wires to your couch.

Option 2) If your TV has a 3.5mm audio out headphone jack but you don't want to run wires across your room, then you can connect a Bluetooth transmitter (in TX mode) to your TV's headphone jack and then pair two Bluetooth headphones to the transmitter. This is the best option in the sense that you both won't have any wires tethering you, but you risk audio sync issues and you both might be out of sync a different amount.

Option 3) Pair a Bluetooth receiver in RX mode with the Fire TV, then connect a Y splitter to the receiver, and then connect two wired headphones to the splitter. You won't have wires running from the TV to the couch, but you'll both be tethered with wires to the little receiver box on the couch. You might have audio sync issues, but you'll both be equally out of sync.

u/3r0z · 2 pointsr/fireTV

In order to airplay you'll need an app like this.

I use a program called Splashtop to mirror from my windows pc to the FTV.

But you could also sideload a browser like Firefox along with Adobe Flash player and play videos straight from the FTV.

u/PhobicCarrot · 0 pointsr/fireTV

Aren't FireTV products RF only? If you want IR, you can consider a device like this, along with an OTG cable. I did that for my FireTV pendant because my URC Universal Remote only does IR. Works like a charm!

u/FoferJ · 0 pointsr/fireTV

I've used this app with very good success, sending AirPlay video from my Mac or iOS devices, to my FireTV:

https://www.amazon.com/x5434-x6C5D-AirPlay-DLNA-Receiver/dp/B00LAT7QV6

u/infestacool · 1 pointr/fireTV

Thanks I used the settings.apk to install this keyboard/trackpad combo and it works great.

u/jenkinl1302 · 4 pointsr/fireTV

I'm guessing you're not talking about the stick. This gets a lot of love on the HTPC/XBMC subreddits, and rightfully so. I have it and it works amazingly well. It's USB, so while it would work on the FireTV, it would not work on the stick.

u/joeredspecial · 2 pointsr/fireTV

Well this is interesting. The FireTV stick comparison page now says "coming next year" for HBO Go. I'm pretty sure it used to say December or end of the year, it looks like it's been quietly delayed. I'm not happy about this at all.

u/Marcellus111 · 0 pointsr/fireTV

I moved files back and forth lots of times using ES Explorer. Open the app on both your phone and your stick, select the file on your stick and choose the "send" option, which will pull up all other devices on your LAN with the app open and let you select which device to send the file to. It's pretty easy.

u/UnlnvlslblE · 2 pointsr/fireTV

You can get the harmony smart control for only $70. I realize it doesn't show in the pictures on Amazon but it does in fact come with the hub and the remote. You can also use your phone / tablet as a remote with the harmony app.

u/Akumahito · 4 pointsr/fireTV

How complex are the buttons you need to hit? Sideclick Has a great remote and all of the buttons are fully customizable

u/humbertog · 2 pointsr/fireTV

AirReceiver works pretty nice an is available directly from the FireTV Amazon Store, if you have AirParrot on your computer then you can mirror your whole screen on the FireTV and also mirror your iOS device, on the other hand if you sideload XBMC you could use AirPlay too but without the mirroring feature.

u/kwenchana · 1 pointr/fireTV

The 4k is HDMI 2.0 and more specifically HDCP 2.2 (copy protection), your receiver may not fully implement it or support an older revision only.

On my 10 years old TV it actually wouln't display any picture after booting up and I only got a black screen.

Ended up purchasing an HDMI splitter (those that does 1x2, 2 simultaneous outputs) and now my TV is working just fine.

This guy https://www.amazon.com/TESmart-Splitter-Amplifier-Switcher-Support/dp/B07JVQ868C

For $9, it's worth a try

u/scottvv · 3 pointsr/fireTV

I use AirParrot on my PC and then an AirPlay-compatible app on Fire TV (I use this one and like it best of all the options on the AppStore).

u/mrdm242 · 3 pointsr/fireTV

I bought this keyboard and it works great. It has a built-in trackpad so a separate mouse is not necessary.

As far as game controllers, I'm just using a wired Xbox controller.

u/justacheesyguy · 2 pointsr/fireTV

I use these and they work great, even with a hub and multiple devices plugged in.

u/fitznd · 6 pointsr/fireTV

Thanks for the shoutout /u/ratraget! Hey all I'm the developer behind FitzyTV. It basically acts as a Program Guide and Cloud DVR for any channel you have access to through your TV subscriptions. You can find the app here: https://www.amazon.com/FitzyTV-Streaming-TV-Cloud-DVR/dp/B07DFW52P3. Just launched a revamped app so would love your feedback!

u/sillycyco · 2 pointsr/fireTV

So you want to copy the files to the local storage on the Firetv over the network?

You can do this with ES File Explorer.

You will have to share the files over the network though. That is the only way to... share files over the network.

u/Tandybaum · 3 pointsr/fireTV

My guess is that you're using one of the older sticks. The newish 4k stick has been pretty damn flawless for me.

u/zimtastic · 7 pointsr/fireTV

I got a Sideclick for my first gen Fire TV - and I love it. I was able to stop using the other remotes for my TV and soundbar.

You might also want to try this remote and let us know how you like it.

u/tony353 · 1 pointr/fireTV

Have you tried this one? It works flawless with iOS 10.

u/eclpsdrgn · 3 pointsr/fireTV

It does not just search airplay on the firestick and that app allows you to airplay it’s like 3 bucks it works well. airplay

u/longandshortofit · 5 pointsr/fireTV

Sideclicks are pretty awesome but just seem a little expensive for what they are.

Another option is the addon remote but they do not have enough buttons for me. I need channel up/down and a ways to scroll though the tv inputs and hit "enter".

Edit: I just read that you said you don't have the original remote... You will need them for both of these options since they are learning.

u/cstark · 1 pointr/fireTV

Shouldn't have any problems with it if it's the same as my FireTV box.

Yes I actually use this tiny bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo that someone on here suggested. Heres the link: Seenda Mini Bluetooth Keyboard

u/thin_king980 · 1 pointr/fireTV

Doesn't the macbook have it's own casting option like the iphone does? if so you should get this.

https://www.amazon.com/x5434-x6C5D-AirPlay-DLNA-Receiver/dp/B00LAT7QV6

It always works for me using my iphone and it's on sale for $2 instead of the normal $5.

u/volvo64 · 5 pointsr/fireTV

I’ve come to understand the first gen cube performance is… lacking.

Would recommend a 4K stick instead, it’s on sale for $25.

https://www.amazon.com/Fire-TV-Stick-4K-with-Alexa-Voice-Remote/dp/B079QHML21?th=1&psc=1

u/JustAnother-Observer · 2 pointsr/fireTV

I have a sideclick that I have programmed to change volume, channels, bring up my OTA guide info, change imputs. Works like a charm. Still use it instead of voice on my Fire TV Cube. Not perfect solution as it is a second set of batteries, etc. but workable.

u/FreeThinker76 · 1 pointr/fireTV

No, this is a FireTV 4k, like THIS one.

u/servo386 · 2 pointsr/fireTV

Bought this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092ZEINO/

and im loving it. Using it on a straight up android box but no reason why it shouldn't work both on FireTV box and FireTV Stick.

Don't get the the other "newer" version for FireTV, just get this one.

u/soularm · 2 pointsr/fireTV

Ive never had any issues using this app for both my macbook pro to firetv and also iphone / ipad

For high WAF, get a Logitech Harmony remote. Easy to set up using a web interface, even easier to use.

Basically a setup wizard walks you through you adding every component that you want to control (e.g. TV, A/V receiver, cable box, Fire TV, DVD/BR player, etc.) Most current and lots of older devices are automatically recognized because they are in a central repository on Logitech's site, so most of the time you'll just need to enter a model number and all the settings will be downloaded. If for some reason your device isn't found in their database, the remote hes a learning IR port, and you can "teach" it commands from your original remotes. I've never had to do this for any of my components, and some of them are ancient. Fire TV and Fire TV stick are both fully supported: once you set everything up, you will need to pair the remote with the Fire TV once.

Then it allows you to create multiple "activities" where you tell the remote how your components are connected and which ones are to be used in a given scenario. Then an activity is assigned to a single button on the remote. Pressing that button will turn on the necessary devices, and flip everything to proper inputs. The "Off" button switches off what was turned on.

For Example, I have a TV, DVD Player, Fire TV, Wii U, A/V Receiver, cable box, and a VCR (don't judge me.) I set up a "Watch Fire TV" activity that turns on TV, receiver, and Fire TV, and flips the receiver to the appropriate HDMI input. The WAF in this household has never been higher!

It comes with a Hub which sits next to your components and uses IR to blast commands at them (IR extenders are available too) and remote communicates with it via Bluetooth. Perfect for hiding all equipment in an enclosed cabinet.

u/mareksoon · 8 pointsr/fireTV

Not Bluetooth, but I like this one; it uses their unifying receiver.

Somewhere in my post history I wrote a bit more about it in a comment to another thread; plus, others offered their input.

u/Biggrich76 · 2 pointsr/fireTV
  1. Correct. Root is not needed to sideload and run the app.
  2. The app does not respond to normal remote commands, since it is natively a touch screen app. Therefore, we have to 'fake' touch commands by using a mouse or similar input.

    Options are limited on the Fire TV stick because it does not accept USB input;

u/nexustemp · 1 pointr/fireTV

According to one of the reviews this works with the Fire TV Stick.

u/kirker187 · 1 pointr/fireTV

I have this keyboard working on my Fire TV Stick 2.

I also connected a thumb drive to the ftv stick 2 with this if you wanted to try to use your dongle keyboard.

u/inwisso · 1 pointr/fireTV

If you want the Reflector your Fire Tv have to be rooted. I can walk you though the process.

But for AirPlay/DLNA (PRO) can be downloaded at Amazon App Store.

Search of it on you Fire TV or at this following link :
