Hi everyone! We're well past our closing time of 1230, but I wanted to get through the first batch of questions. I will come back over the next 24 hours and try to grab unique questions, but I'm not sure if Tara or Chris will do the same. If I didn't answer your question, I'm sorry I didn't get to it! There were many repeats, so there's a good chance if you asked something about our favorite line or favorite character, we got to it someplace else and skipped yours to make sure we hit the broadest amount of topics.

For my part, because of all your amazing Twitter interactions, I'll be stopping my playthrough of Judgment early and starting FE3H on my Twitch channel, www.twitch.tv/JoeZieja in the coming weeks once I get some custom emotes and badges, and a good schedule set up. Stand by on Twitter for stuff like that.

If you're interested in my books, you can find them all on amazon, and YES I do narrate my own novels.

Thank you so much everyone! This has been amazing. You are all beautiful. FEAR THE DEER.

-Joe

The prices are what are listed as of this post; they may fluctuate a little, but usually not by much. I'd probably go with The Art of Fire Emblem Awakening, because it's a really nice, and really big art book with some great content. If your friend is into music like I am, they might also like one of the recent soundtrack releases from Symphony No. 5; all the soundtracks below are either 4- or 5-disc albums with amazing packaging and extras.

The developers and the gaming community in general needs to have better language to designate types of player characters. I think our expectations get messed up because our terms are muddled.

For my part, I consider basically three types of player characters: avatars, actor characters, and role-playing characters (terminology borrowed from this textbook, and that's honestly the only part of the book that's remotely useful). Avatars are literally just the player in virtual space; they have no place in narrative games and largely function as representation for the player among other players. Actor characters are fully-scripted, set-in-stone characters whom the player happens to control during gameplay segments (so most FE lords-- Marth, Eirika, Alm, etc.-- would fall into this category). And then in between those two you've got a spectrum of role-playing characters where the player has varying degrees of control over their person and narrative actions (whether in their imagination, as with silent protagonists, or in the actual mechanics of the game). It's possible to build a functioning story around a role-playing character, but it requires tact and understanding. I would say it also only works well with a tacit understanding that the player is separating themselves from their character to a certain extent. They are, in fact, playing a role. They should not be coddled.

I think IS has been writing for actor characters in FE games, letting the player change their gender and hair color, marketing them like they're role-playing characters and their choices matter, and then putting bumpers on the narrative to avoid hurting the player's ego. It's pretty confused IMO. But I also think Nintendo's getting more of a handle on this sort of thing. I'm looking at stuff like Xenoblade going from a customizable player character back to an actor one, Zelda finally settling on just calling Link Link... it seems like they're starting to get either that they can write better stories with actor characters or that role-playing characters stretch their resources too thin without offering the player the payoff of meaningful choice (which would require, guess what, more resources). FE Switch may be a good outing for them to experiment with meaningful choice, but they really gotta commit to it and get over any "avatar-ism" with the character. Otherwise I'd be fine with an MU in a very minor role. I'd recommend planning for supports with every character, but parceling them out among different character "types," so that only 4-6 are available per playthrough. This creates organic character development and a sense of choice without forcing the MU on characters unnaturally or getting into massively branching paths.

This is a genius idea. By remaking the older games, you make the older fans happy while the newer FE fans will be more interested as the older games would be more accessible and friendly to them. I see why they remade the second game first instead of jumping towards Genealogy or Blazing Blade/Binding Blade. They're obviously testing the waters before they're sure that they want to make a mini series out of this. This is why showing your support by buying this game is important.

This is an amazing development for the series. Fire Emblem was on her deathbed 6 years ago. Never thought she would be considered a major IP for Nintendo now.

Edit: Echoes is up for pre-orders now on Amazon.

Edit 2: The game is currently unavailable for now. Keep checking back and look at other retailers!

I know this isn't really an answer, but you might wanna look into an SD Card. 64 GB ones aren't very expensive. Even very good ones like this 128 GB card are only $20 dollars or so.

If you don't feel like doing that, maybe check Target, Walmart, or Best Buy? They'll also have inventory for stores listed on their websites and you can usually reserve a physical copy for pickup as well.

Thanks for the info. What did you mean earlier about the FE:A soundtrack. I preordered that from Amazon.co.jp, so didn't follow it later after launch. Did it sell out quickly, at the time (and by extension, these might, too, then)?

Edit: Found it on camelcamelcamel. Looks like it went out of stock ~7 months after launch. And now it's crazy priced. o.O Will keep that in mind, as I liked these two games on the GCN/Wii. :) Thanks again for sharing the pics!

I don't know how much help this will be but this is the 3DS skin I currently use. I'm not sure if this is the actual seller for it since I got it as a gift. I reaaaally love this skin and the GBA sprites so I 100% recommend it

Ah, oh well. I imagine any option goes notably above retail then just because of international shipping. I actually bought mine from AmiAmi (who ships internationally) a ways back when they restocked it, but it doesn't look like they have it anymore. I know amazon.uk ships to the US, and they have it for their retail price, but I don't know where else they ship internationally or even where you live. (and it ends up costing 22 US dollars, at least to ship to the US) Not sure if that's really any better than any other option you may have.

I don't really know anything about using Ebay outside of the US, but this listing isn't terribly priced and says it ships to a variety of countries. It's free shipping to US at least, I don't know if that's available otherwise.

There was a reprint not too long ago, so JP Amazon still has a bunch of copies.

Hopefully that's not mobile but...

You can ship stuff internationally through Amazon - Amazon offers fairly cheap (like $10 USD) international shipping that arrives pretty fast too. Just use Google Translate or the "English site" option, sign up, add a card that is recognized internationally like Visa, and you're good to go.

First of all, this was made by BurntPixels on etsy. She does customs, and her work is impressive. I'm very happy with this.

Secondly, the pictures don't do it justice. It looks even better in person. The back of the box is all black with a small notch cut out of a corner for the power cord (this is the light I chose).

Awakening or Echoes. Awakening is good with people just starting into the series. Echoes is a bit different, but I really enjoyed it. Echoes is 25% off on Amazon at the moment (I'm seeing it for $25 with Prime vs $29.99 for non-Prime) https://www.amazon.com/Fire-Emblem-Echoes-Shadows-of-Valentia-3DS/dp/B01N12ES3A/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=techvolc-20&linkId=86ee68f5b5729bf417248cc6b1e7ae33

Do you mean the one from Good Smile? Seems like the official pre-orders are over, so you'll have to get it from somewhere else. Try one of the stores in the first link, or just go to Amazon.

Amazon have it available standalone :) they just email you the download code as soon as you buy it so just buy from there and enter the code in the eshop.

Remember though I linked the UK store. I don’t know if the codes are region locked on switch so if your not British look on your own amazon instead :)

The Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina amiibo are all compatible with Fire Emblem Fates.

amiibo are becoming more and more common to find recently. You should easily be able to find Marth at Best Buy and Ike at GameStop (Keep in mind that Ike is currently a GameStop exclusive). As for Robin and Lucina, those are currently out of stock, so your best bet would be to try and find them for as cheap a price you can online. Probably on Amazon, as the Japanese imports shouldn't cost too much over the usual store price.

EDIT: Here's the Robin amiibo for $14.82 (Click here) and the Lucina amiibo for $14.04 (Click here). For comparison, the suggested retail price for amiibo in-stores is $12.99, except at Toys 'R' Us, where amiibo are $13.99.

Shadow Dragon

Probably a stupid question, but I'm planning on picking up a copy of Shadow Dragon from Amazon. However, I've bought games there before and gotten bootleg copies instead of the real deal. Can anyone else who's bought it from Amazon tell me which sellers are trustworthy and which aren't? Thank you!

u/PauloPelle94 · 35 pointsr/fireemblem

Just went on Amazon to see how much other people were selling this for new and expected to come back and laugh at this guys audacity but Ho-ly fuck.

Can be purchased directly from amazon japan and shipped worldwide for a reasonable charge.

Preordering Three Houses. I found two products listed. This one and this one. Is one of them really just $10 cheaper? I dont want to accidentally buy the Japanese one.

u/cloudlionhart · 1 pointr/fireemblem

It's been available to preorder on Amazon since December. Currently $26.40.

Depends entirely if you want the artbook, calendar, cd and steel book case really.

To put into perspective though, the Awakening artbook sells for $35 and a carrying case (that's what the steelbook's for, right?) sells for about $10-$15. Now even considering the fact that the artbook that comes with the special edition for this game sure as hell isn't 320 pages like that one, still between it and everything else monetary wise I'd say $40 is about what all that together should cost.

But again, the question is how much do you want the bonus stuff that comes with the game. The CD'll have music that'll be available on Youtube the day the game comes out and the artbook I suspect will mainly be comprised of official art that'll be on the wiki soon after as well. I could be wrong, but I don't feel that things gonna be comparable to the Art of Fire Emblem Awakening or the Tellius Recollection.
