This is going to format like shit because I'm copying it straight from an email I wrote my sister.
The important bits: the hub is Samsung Smartthings, switches are mostly GE zwave switches, voice control provided by Amazon Echo.
Rolling it out across the whole house isn't easy or cheap, but it's worth it when you have someone over and you give the "turn on everything" command and you watch every light pop on, then do it in reverse.
This will get you started :)

There are other things like motion sensors and garage door controllers that start opening up some really cool "routines."

Yes! A cool coffee table type of book that people will want to pick up and flip through. I personally suggest something like The Visual Display of Quantitative Information or A cool nature related book (example there). Something with beautiful things to look at rather than a story to read in words only.

Stainless steel works, but soapstone better. At least for drinks. Ice is definitely the best at making things cold.

Since the smoke is in the chamber for such a short time I would still use ice. Alternatives such as stainless steel and sandstone soapstone work best when sitting in the drink for awhile and the main advantage is to not have watered down alcohol.

It's seriously the best thing ever. I have this one and it gets my floors super clean and sanitized. It also has an attachment to do carpets. My favorite part is that you can remove the head and use it as a handheld steamer to clean pillows, matresses, etc.

Ever had really good Dubbel Zoute drops? I used to keep a tub of them on my desk at work and goad people into tasting them. Even people who normally like black licorice are often disgusted by the ammonium chloride salt in them. Makes 'em taste a little bit like Windex. I love them!

Wash it all in cold water unless you're sanitizing towels or something similarly specific. Put anything delicate in a mesh laundry bag and hang dry it. Also hang dry everything that is tailored or that you love very much, so jeans are also a hang dry item (they're actually quite tailored). Unless it's a knit, something with stretch in it like a sweater, those you lay flat to dry. Don't toss heavy items in the wash with the delicates, even if they are in the mesh bags. If you have the slightest suspicion that a new item of clothing might bleed dye then hand wash it and check, and if it does bleed then continue to hand wash it separately.

Wow. That guy's pretty good with that can opener. Either way at $14 or 4 for $5 (P51 found on amazon), they're obselete in the face of these easy-open cans. Here's the one I bought (closer to $15):

yeah they are a strong adhesive on one side and a padded section of a weaker adhesive that is strong enough to temporarily attach things to places like walls/shelves. Something like This.

As Clowncopter points out, if you can already record something because you already legally have access to it, the idea of paying say $10 for a season is a bit absurd. I'm not even "stealing" it IMO because I already have access for it, the only thing at that point I'm actually doing is consuming it on my own terms.

For me to even think about paying for a season, I'd need to be able to select 420p / 720p / 1080p, there would need to be a discount for something I already have access to and downloads would need to not count against my monthly cap.

Commercials are going to be a tricky topic. They would be unlikely to offer them without commercials unless the source was commercial free, and even then they might decide to add them. If they did, I'd expect this to figure into the price as well. Like Gabe says, its a service problem. You can't rape me up the ass with a locked down DRM riddled download that has commercials I cant skip that costs so much I might as well buy the DVD when I can just go download it commercial free in any resolution I want.

On top of that, older seasons should cost less money. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing seasons available on DVD / BluRay that cost $50. Give me a break. I'd rather see a pricing model that recognizes this. Current season? $10. Older seasons? $2.50. Also, if I'm paying $10 for the current season I expect that to be permanent (in other words, "this is a digital rental that expires in 1 month" just doesn't fly).

Nothing is more irritating than saying "Hey, I'd like to watch this show lets see what it would cost to make that happen." and finding out that its just not reasonable. For example, I didn't start watching House until the end of season 5. If its going to cost me anywhere from $18 to $60 for a season, that's going to dramatically lower my willingness / ability to start watching the show. I don't see how pricing things at "fuck it, we won't bother" helps them make more money.

The market is there, they just need to tap it. I think the reason they don't is that it is a direct threat to their cable service. The bottom line is that I'm going to consume it on my own terms no matter what they do, they can fight it but spending millions of dollars criminalizing the people that want to watch their shows does not strike me as the best approach.

Thats spot on. I figured i was pretty lucky in that regard. Good on BMW to allow that to happen though. Here is the cable that i am using right now in my car. Not too pricy, and the install wasnt much of a hassle either.

So i am test-driving the buddyz this weekend. They work well and this model also noise reduces a bit. (They make another model too).

The only thing to look out for is make sure they’re fitted “wing” up and not covering the insertion sensor. You of course have to remove them to fit them back to the charging case. Below also comes with a zip pocket/purse case.

Comes with a silicone rope “librarian lady” strap in case your doing something extra vigorous like certain exercise machines.

I have one of these. Super helpful, especially when travelling.

I'm sure you'll get a bigger bed too soon. I can't imagine such a small one - I hope you'll figure it out. Maybe buy this. It will certainly help you in your perils.

u/CanWeTalkHere · 2 pointsr/firstworldproblems

Sad to say, that's probably on you. You've grown up on too much sugar. Generally speaking, not your (or even your parents') fault if you grew up in the 1960's through 1990's, as the "sugar is poison" research was limited (and pre-internet, not as accessible) and worse than that, the sugar lobby (not to mention government subsidies, at least in the US) is/was SUPER powerful.

But moving forward, it is your fault, and most importantly, don't pass your affinity for sugar habit(s) onto your kids. This is the greatest good you can do IMHO, don't pass it on. Most especially through the biggest traps of them all...soft drinks and fruit juices. That's what we do anyway. Make our kids' sugar intake experiences "worth the downsides" (e.g., via high quality dessert experiences every now and then, not daily crapola stupid sugar intake).

Edit: If you get through the first 2-4 weeks of no sugar, you don't miss it and even begin to detest how sugar infused so many processed foods are. Then you start skipping the middle of the grocery store as junk food (even those products marketed as low sugar, as you say). Then you start to feel better. Then you live a better and hopefully longer life ;-).

Get one of these! I expected it to be crap for $5 but it works surprisingly well. I only get static briefly when driving through certain areas, and even then it's not that bad.

That thing has been a life saver. There are holes on the top that let you measure serving sizes. Comes out of the microwave just like you boiled it. Awesome stuff.

I just used these when kid proofing my house:

Pretty easy.

Having said that I stuck a key in an outlet as a kid, survived (mostly).
