I could write a book of information and opinions with dozens of sources and stuff but I am gonna keep it simple and link you to these two thing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-jMdJHv1Lk
and
http://www.amazon.de/How-Create-Mind-Thought-Revealed/dp/0670025291

The big thing you gotta look at is consciousness. I am gonna copy paste some previous comments of mine in other threads that talk about that. Everything beyond this point is what I think and if you want you can ignore it and just rely on those 2 previous links because they are pretty much the starting point that leads to what I will say:

Someone asked this "Why don't people understand that gen3s are practically human?"

My answer/comment was:
Well tbh the answer is simply we don't know. We IRL are not advanced enough to know if they can be considered humans. The brain pretty much works like a computer, with electric(and also chemical[PS.: there is a super computer that uses those too it's pretty cool]) signals. What makes humans different from machines is that we are conscious of ourselves and our surroundings. Yes, synths are conscious too BUT (this is a big but) they did not achieve that level of consciousness by themselves. Humans it took hundreds of thousand of years of evolution to build this consciousness and every newborn baby gets taught this consciousness passively by there parents. Growing up we just start understanding these things because everyone does, we leach of each other. Synth do that too but they never achieved this themselves, after they get created the Institute indoctrinates them with what they need to know. Their consciousness is just as artificial and synthetic as their bodies. The way they think and do and feel is all based upon how they see themselves and their surroundings and ALL of that has been implanted into them, kinda like programming the basis of an AI, and after a while they also learn. (IRL AI are not as advanced and can only effectively learn simple tasks but that is changing rapidly) To TRULY determine if synths can gain and create their own consciousness(biological programming pretty much) they have to be separated from any human contact. What happens if they grow up with different species, or with themselves or alone? If they are able to build up that by themselves then we could start calling them sentient beings. Without any of that data they are just fancy pants machines. (Nick is an odd exception because he came from a human, for me he is more human than any Gen3)
PS.: But hey, this is all just my opinion and this is the internet…so who cares.

The Brain is grown but not the informations inside it. A synths mind can be wiped and reshaped. They most likely have a basic "programming" in them to begin with given the fact that they can walk the second they get made/"born". And about that free and happy life thing. Most are ok with beings workers/slaves/tools. The minority of them escapes and in the story they never give a reason as to why that movement got started, all synths are created equal so why do some want t escape and some not. They have the same life since they were created, they came from the same source and got taught the same basic skills needed for their work. When did they start to "think" for themselves and start to be sentient and want things such as freedom? The only logical answer(given with what we know from the game) is that it depended with which human they got into contact more. There are people in the Institute that think they are humans and most likely the synths working in that area are the ones getting those ideas of escaping. Long story short, all of this leads to what I said that they are not creating these thoughts and their consciousness by themselves, they are grabbing it, leaching it passively from the humans they work with. It's very much like an AI learning things step-by-step. And the synths that NEVER try to escape are the coursers, why? Because they spent a lot of time with the department(SRB) that treats the synths more as tools than humans as any other place in the Institute.
TLDR: Synths behave a LOT like how a futuristic AI would work and learn. Never making their own decisions but instead leaching ideas and learning from their surroundings.

The thing is that humans throughout their entire evolution build that up. We build up that consciousness and every generation benefits and expands it, that's what a species does.
Yeah you could consider a synth humans because of that but in my eyes it is just a very advanced AI being thought and given a consciousness that is not his. The answer is IF they can build something like that up by themselves which is at this point in time simply impossible to answer.
Scientists are estimating that by 2023 they can rebuild how a human brain works with a computer, on top of that there are super computers out right now that use both electrical and chemical signals to send information just like the brain. If you combined those two and give it the same ideas, believes and skills that the Institute teaches the synths would you consider that thing human?
I believe it is not the body that determines if they are human, not the flesh and bone but what their mind is and the synths are just a fancy harddrive up there(for me that is). Nick is an exception because his memories are DIRECTLY from a human and after that he built his own personality and consciousness in combination with his former self and the people that he ended up with after being kicked out of the Institute. Because he developed so much himself(not completely though, even the SS helps him with his quest) I consider him more human than any Gen3 Synth out there.

Hope this helps!

> I want to play co op lego games with my nieces and nephews, I want to play split screen with my mates, then watch a bluray with my mrs of an evening

Lego with the little guys? Got it! Even checked to make sure they were local co-op.

http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/LEGO/#p=0&tab=NewReleases

You'll probably have to go a bit outside your comfort zone for local co-op with friends, but that is also a dying feature for consoles too. However, if you're cool with some indie games... Gotta recommend Samurai Gunn specifically. That game is god damn amazing! You and your friends will fuckin' die laughing while you deflect bullets, cut off each others heads, jump up walls, get impaled on spikes, and crushed by big ass boxes.

Blu-Ray? Got it!

> I want to do all this quickly, easily and consistently and I don't want to spend a months wages, and more every 6 months, to do so

Building the computer is as simple as building a lego set. It takes a couple hours to initially set up, but it only needs done once. After that, it's just as easy as pressing the home button on your xbox to launch steam big picture and choose your favorite game to play.

PCs will be more than a console upfront. You will spend more than $300 on a PC, but not much more unless you want to. If you factor in the price of a couple games and a year of XBOX live or PSN, PC is already cheaper.

Plus, where are you going to find sales like this? http://www.gameois.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/steamos-sale.jpg

They happen damn near constantly on PC. New game you want isn't on sale? No worries. Green Man Gaming has a 20% off coupon every month that can be applied to any game they have. Save yourself $12 right there without even needing a sale.

You don't have to upgrade any more frequently than you want. The consoles are on 2012 tech. Games will stay with that as a baseline until new consoles come out.

All that said, look here for a parts breakdown with prices of various price ranges: https://www.reddit.com/r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds

I'd recommend The Crusher as a baseline, then maybe asking over at /r/buildapc if you need help or want to make changes. I know you said you don't like PCMR, which is fine... The circlejerk gets old for us too... But there a ton of great communities on reddit for this. Maybe try /r/pcgaming as it's a bit more mature.

One thing I will say about PCMR is that they are most goddamn generous sub out there. Constantly giving away games, components, monitors, etc. and surprisingly helpful, but you do have to get past the kids and the circlejerk to see that.

If you do decide to look into, like I said, /r/buildapc is a great resource to start and you can also free to PM me if you'd like.

Have a good one, brother!

No prob. Glad I could help. Just make sure that you read all the information for every mod you download, don't just click 'download' and think that's all you have to do. Many mods require you to either download other mods or edit .ini files or change other things to make them work properly. I had a lot of awesome people help me when I first started playing with mods when I started playing Skyrim. If you like Fallout 4 and haven't played Skyrim or any of the Elder Scrolls games, definitely check them out. I prefer Skyrim: Legendary Edition over the newer Skyrim: Special Edition because LE has way more mods. Also, if you've never played Fallout New Vegas, DEFINITELY get New Vegas Ultimate Edition. It's even better than Fallout 4.

As far as getting games for PC, they're way cheaper than consoles. Keep an eye on sites like Cheap Shark, Is There Any Deal, Humble Bundle, and GOG. Cheap Shark and Is There Any Deal both check a bunch of different game selling sites and compare prices so you can find the best price for the game at that time. If there's a specific game you want, you can set alerts so it will email you when the game goes on sale or when the price drops to whatever amount you have it set to. Remember that Steam has their huge sales every summer and winter, so every 6 months basically. If you want a game and it's expensive, just wait because you'll be able to find it on sale somewhere soon. You can also check out /r/GameDeals, /r/SteamDeals and /r/SteamGameSwap to find good deals on games or trade games. If you want to check out subs for PCs, you can check out /r/PCMasterRace and /r/PCGaming.

If you have any questions about your PC or gaming or anything, feel free to ask. I work as a tech and am a PC gamer so I'm always working on computers. I built my gaming PC a little over a year ago and love it.

> Most people who purchased FO4 never played FONV.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/504477/global-all-time-unit-sales-fallout-games/

I mean, if this site is reliable, then it looks like a lot of overlap... mostly overlap even.

> The reviews on Amazon, for instance, are almost all five stars from thousands of reviewers.

https://www.amazon.com/Fallout-4-PC/dp/B00YQ2MM2M?th=1

Less than a thousand reviews, and only slightly more than half are 5 star.... seems about a 6/10.

I get that you're Bethesda fanboy, but literally all franchises owe some of their success to previous entries in the series, by definition, this isn't a bad thing. I'm not sure why you're quoting FONV specifically, there's been 3 main series games before FO4, and a couple others too! FO4 owes it's legacy to ALL of those game, not just FONV.

Think for a minute, and you'll begin to see that Fallout is a brand, and those dedicated to the brand are likely to reinvest in the brand... thus sequels tend to be a safer bet than original content. and sequels owe large parts of their success to predecessors. The proof is all around you... seen Endgame yet?

If you've got the time and resources to spare, try making maquettes. You can get modeling clay fairly cheap, and it can be incredibly helpful to throw together a quick maquette, chuck it under a lamp, and see what happens with the light.

If you want a great pair of books on light and form by a master painter, check out James Gurney's Color and Light and Imaginative Realism. His blog is worth a read as well, it's always informative and interesting.

If you want a more technical approach to lighting, How to Render is a fantastic technical examination of how light behaves on various surfaces. The associated How to Draw is an excellent technical book on perspective. Both are a bit dry and clinical, but quite excellent.

Anything by Andrew Loomis is also well worth picking up.

Nice! Great arrangement and well played!

Two things:
First and foremost, I'd strongly recommend ditching that Kyser capo right away for a variable tension capo like This one. Reason being that the Kyser will cause premature fret damage. I just had some premature fretwear fixed from that very same Kyser capo. As a bonus, the variable tension allows you to hold tune better when you capo up.

Second thing: How do you like that PRS acoustic, and what's the nut width on it?

If you didn't already know, apparently there are Hot Topic exclusives as well, such as this one. I swear I saw a Power Armor/BoS figure that was all gold like C-3PO, but I can't seem to find it to verify. Not sure if that was related to Hot Topic too or something else. I don't have a list of all the variations, but someone might.

Also, I just found out they're releasing another line of figures called Dorbz, which look like this. I've never heard of this line before and I think the POP! figures are easily the best, but I may pick up a Power Armor version of this one just because. Looks like they're coming out in May.

There's two:

An actual "inspired by" art book. Not really what you are looking for....

And also the large, tabletop, The Art of Mad Max Fury Road, here. The first review pretty much sums up what you get. I actually own a copy and went and pulled it out so I could look it over again before replying. Though it has some character stuff we already know, it also goes into set design and writing and directing. I found out things I didn't know (for instance all Night Bog shots were done during the day, the director of photography, John Seale, was instructed to overexpose the shoot to create greater amounts of shadow, then they graded the shots down to blue in post. The Night Bog shots did not take place in the desert, but at a salt factory close by). This is just a taste of what it is like. This book gave me more info then I knew, and I'm a pretty staunch Max fan. It's...detailed enough to be intelligently written, but Fury Road wasn't a cerebral film, so it doesn't go deep, deep into things. The cars are also talked about quite a bit, and we get a bit more character backstory, the actor for Immortan talks (in character) about his mindset for the people, also final closing thoughts on why Max walked away but Furiousa stayed, that sort of thing. Worth it, imo, if you loved the movie.

Edit: In summary, you get everything you are talking about with this book, including concept art and details about the world!

I printed some box images found on teh Intarwebs, pasted them over an existing cereal box, and filled mine with a bag of all-marshmallow cereal bits bought on Amazon. Like, the charms in Lucky Charms, without the not-tasty bits. My daughters loved it.

If you're definitely looking for an upgrade, check out the FX-9590 which is the top end AMD processor currently, which fits your motherboard socket. It's 200 bucks, plus if it gets hot with your current CPU cooler, you can throw in a cheap 212 Evo. Your bottleneck right now is your CPU and upgrading it will solve your fps drop problems not just in Fallout 4 but in all games.

If I were you, I'd probably save a bit more money and build a new system minus the graphics card (I'd reuse the 1060), with the new AMD Ryzen CPUs which are about the same price but much more better than the FX-series CPUs. PM me if you have any question about PC building and cheers.

It's difficult going for your dream game as your first project, since you learn so much from every iteration. Here's a gdc talk on 2D camera movement that's useful for getting across the correct feeling of motion. Most of my experience is in Unity, so I wouldn't really know much about gamemaker. I will say for movement a lot of it is based on how it feels to control, so get lots of different people to test your game and give you unbiased feedback. Make sure you let them know that you won't be upset if they don't like something, positive feedback on a bad game is one of the worst things that can happen to a game dev.

This is a good book to guideline what feels good in controls and other elements. A lot of what makes a game good is the polish that goes into it, which is why I can't stress the importance of this video. It starts slow, but it changed how I view my project pipeline.

Also focus on making a few mechanics really deep, instead of a lot of really shallow mechanics. Especially for indie games this will help you keep a focus on what you want the player to get from your game, and it feels a lot better on the players end to explore deep gameplay mechanics rather than throwaway gimmicks.

Edit: another useful video for polishing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg

Yeah, I know the feeling. I have a family member with the same general type of issue - it only poses issues with one high-demand game in particular - if it's swapped for an identical card, the thing works fine. Swap the original card back in, and it chain crashes.

What PSU are you running? I just did a build for someone that uses this one, and it appears to be on an ok sale.
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-80PLUS-Gold-Certified-Power-Supply/dp/B00EB7UITQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452281921&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+750+psu

If you have a 750+ watt PSU, you are prooooobably fine in that regard - it's really the GPU i'd look at first.

It is a little dubious because of the phrasing they used at launch "Winner of Best of Show E3 2015, get the Fallout 4 Season Pass and get all Fallout 4 DLC for one S.P.E.C.I.A.L. price.". At the time I defended it from all the "Don't buy it now because they'll end up dragging it into multiple seasons" because it I thought the term "all Fallout 4 DLC" was pretty transparent. If Bethesda is creating any paid content on creation club and that's something which is downloadable, it seems that should be covered under the season pass. I'm speaking only of Bethesda developed content and not third party.
